How Does Studying Abroad Improve My Career Prospects?
Studying abroad improves most people's career prospects in many ways, but simply put, it offers a wide range of new opportunities by taking you out of your comfort zone. Employers look for people who have studied abroad because they know they have something that others don't – with a focus not only on completing higher education, but a drive to try new things And the confidence to go out there and experience them. This is our guide to why you should be thinking about studying abroad – and you really should. Not only will it be exciting and fresh and new, it will also be a great opportunity to add something to your CV that not many others can match. And that my friend is priceless.
• Improved Contact Base Studying abroad – especially at larger, more academic Western universities and schools such as Canada, the US or the UK – will give you the opportunity to diversify and expand the group of people you know in your career, this may be highly beneficial. Studying abroad will provide any student with the opportunity to meet a large amount of their peers, many of whom will be young professionals working in a large variety of different roles in different countries. As an international student, you will get to know a plethora of other international students from a wide variety of different backgrounds, many of whom will go back to their home countries after graduation. This means you will be able to develop a worldwide contact base of young professionals – something that other working professionals will love!
• Language and Culture Knowing another country and mastering another language is one of the big advantages of studying abroad, especially if you are from the East and studying in the West, or from the West and studying in the East. Businesses are very fond of employing people with knowledge of both Eastern and Western culture and languages in today's multinational society, and study abroad will put you at the top of that specific hit list.
• The Impression Studying Abroad Gives When employers review CVs they are trying to develop an impression of the applicant in a short amount of time. A CV that shows you have the confidence and bravery to go out and get a degree in a place that is far outside of your comfort zone will tell an employer an inspiring story – it shows drive, confidence and a passion to do well in your field. By showing that you studied outside of your country of origin, you are able to demonstrate that you are culturally experienced and that you can offer a level of commitment above and beyond your peers perhaps.
