Many people may think that a mental illness is easy to spot. If somebody is anxious, they’re probably on edge all the time. If somebody is depressed, they’re always sad or crying. If somebody is suicidal, they’re constantly looking for a way out. 
This is not true!
Many people with a mental illness do not outwardly express their feelings all the time. They can look confident, make jokes, spend time with friends and family, and more.

In 2018 can we like break out of the stigma that borderline personality disorder is such a terrible mental illness and so many of the sufferers are awful and attention seeking because honestly this kind of stigma made me ashamed and scared to tell people of my diagnosis when actually being diagnosed really can help you like recently so many people have become more accepting and even admitting and sharing stories about depression and anxiety like can we please do the same with borderline personality disorder. It’s nothing to be ashamed of, it’s got a genetic basis as well as being able to be formed in childhood as a reaction to trauma and sometimes it can go for years without showing whereas my own personal experience I experienced high levels of emotional dysregulation (bpd) from about an age of two or three, meaning I was an easy target for bullies and always took criticisms and things that people could easily brush off to heart, leading to an eventual extreme breakdown which lead to my diagnosis. Suddenly this makes sense to me and actually it feels better for me to know that it’s something that’s always existed in me and is something wrong with my cognitions rather than something I am doing wrong in my behaviour. Can we please make this the year we break the stigma and share our stories. BPD/EUPD is nothing to be ashamed of, or seen as taboo. We are normal people, who just experience things tougher than other people, but that doesn’t make our experiences any less valid, and often all we want is people to treat us the same before and after our diagnosis, and before and after we begin to display symptoms.
