i assumed this was abt the fundrasiers to get out of gaza from context, my bad if thats incorrect!
asking questions of the person to try and soothe the alarm bells set off/catch them out if they are a scammer, is the usual first thing, cuz that one doesnt involve contacting whoever verified it on the off chance theyre lying abt being verified
but as much as like, it sucks cuz ik the people doing verification are swamped, double checking verification doesnt necessarily seem like a bad call? i know there are a lot of docs ppl can cross check and stuff, but if someone is scamming that seems like a very easy way to establish one way or another. some people are taking advantage of the situation, thats a fact, its a thing we need to take into account and work around sorta thing? i realize that considering how horrificly a bunch of people have responded to this situation it might feel or seem inappropriate but if this is a known thing (people acting badly and scamming) and you are having alarm bells, theres grace here. even just making sure that person and the person who is asking for a boost interacted can be a good indicator of if its a scam or not based on what i read about verification.
and there have been posts going around from people who know what they're talking abt explaining how to recognize scams & what is and is not an indicator, i dont have them on hand or id include links but looking over them and comparing it to what is setting off your alarm bells might also help? sorry for the suggestion when i cant like, actually provide the posts i know finding things on this website is a nightmare.
ultimately my advice is either talk to this person further or reach out to a third party who has a better idea on how to establish one way or another than you if you dont feel qaulified? thats what ive told other people who are concerned abt this too.
I am concerned that someone is scamming and I do not know what to do about it
#i had very little ability to judge on if things were legit or not personally and like#stuck exclusively to ones that had been reblogged by someone who was vetting or could be found on the docs for a while#ive been broadening to reblogs from mutuals/ppl i follow because i havent had the energy to keep up with that#but cross checking is supposed to help reduce the risk of scammers getting boosted?#and so is talking to the.#you might have already considered this stuff but sometimes talking thru can jog ideas
