Megatron is lonely.

He hasn’t ‘felt’ loneliness in a long time. But he was born into a community of miners, then a hive of gladiators. Mechs who knew each other intimately. Mechs who relied on one another to live.

He used to have Orion, Impactor, Terminus.. whatever mech was at his side hacking away at energon in the depths that day. A social bubble aware they were all struggling together.

Once the revolution begun it became painfully clear that he had to separate himself to be a leader. This happened naturally, but it made it no less painful. Soundwave was an ally, but not a friend. Starscream a friend of no one but his own ambition.

I like to think he missed the companionship for a while. Alone in his quarters, obsessing over charts and maps. In the bridge during the day bellowing commands at mechs whose names were only as important as their ability to hold a gun.

After a hard battle, a loss maybe, pacing alone through halls or around his room. His rage already taken out on who or whatever stood too close. The spark-deep need for sociality would inevitably ebb away as the war pushed onwards alongside other vital emotions.

And all he is left with is his hands.

[Out of everyone on the Nemesis, Starscream was perhaps the last mech who needed to know that Soundwave had managed to sustain damage to the exposed protoform on its abdomen. There were few here it could trust, and Starscream was not on that very short list. So, to be greeted with him when Soundwave finally returned from the rare field mission was not exactly ideal.]

[Soundwave casually moved the long planes of its arms to cover the deep gash in its side, trying to not draw attention to itself. It stared at him silently behind the visor, trying to calculate his next move, his next words. Then, cruelly, the mech felt as energon began to leak down from the wound onto its leg.]

[Soundwave quickly moved forward, sidestepping Starscream. It had work to do, and could not be caught up in one of Starscream's feints of concern.]

yea no at this point i should just stop going to ao3 looking for works id like. the curse of making a ship popular being other people get to participate in it etc etc i can't be mad but i sure can be disappointed

my take on starscream and windblade is i genuinely think their dynamic by the end of the series rocks. when starscream is incredibly fond of her and respexts her and sees her as not only an incredibly capable leader but a fundementally good and better person. and windblade is like 😬 starscream? well shes dead now so we never ever have to unpack all that. so uh. lets move on.
