A Meaningful and Memorable Assembly

Yesterday was a most memorable assembly. To begin with, we were fortunate to have Kirsten Cameron '04 return to talk with us about disabilities. Kristen shared her inspirational story about how she was paralyzed from her chest down after a drunk driver hit her on a bicycle when she was coaching college hockey seven years ago.  Kristen is currently a member of the Canadian National Disabled Rugby Team, a team that includes men and women. Her hope is to make the 2020 Olympic Team to compete in Tokyo in "murder ball" for Canada. She talked a lot about how her Holderness experience and the community's values and support have helped her deal with the incredible challenges she has faced in recent years. Our equity and inclusion theme this year is abilities, and we were deeply moved by Kristen's story.

In addition to Kristen's sharing, we also enjoyed a very full assembly that included a new initiative, "intellectual moment of the week" or "curiosity killed the cat moment" that the senior class has initiated.  The first "intellectual moment" went to Carolyn Fernandez and Emily Peltier for their published articles for AP Comp.  We also enjoyed another worker of the week slingshot award, which went to Charlie Struzziero.
