2024, March 29... ISS Expedition 70 NASA astronaut Loral O'Hara wearing a Sokol space suit with the now well-spotted shiny large "Energia" logo chronograph over the left forearm near the white pressure control valve. These striking & large "Energia" logo dial chronographs were first spotted during the Soyuz MS-21 launch ceremony in March 2021. The first idea to identify these tended to the "Strela" chronographs which have a similar lay-out but lack a full numerals dial. The Strela Konkret RR 1401 from East Germany

Date: February 16, 2021 Hey, how’s it going? I hope you’re keeping safe and well, and that you’re still coping alright with the lockdown.

Before I get onto some more radio nerding, I want to apologise for not writing anything in a while. I have a new job role that’s kind of secret, although the place I’m working at isn’t a secret, and I’ve had a pretty intense few weeks.

When it’s all over I’ll be able to tell you about it, and my experiences, but for now it’s hush hush 😉

Anyway, on with the nerding.

To celebrate feedback on doing a good job, I hit ebay and started looking at more East German radios. I dithered about getting a RFT Prominent 210 Deluxe but by the time I went to ‘Buy It Now’, somebody had already beaten me to it.

There was great sadness and I really kicked myself.

Then up popped a Strela Konkret RR 1401. It was a bit dirty but it was cheap (around 15 Euros) so I went for that one.

I was pleasantly surprised today when it arrived, earlier than expected. I was so excited I made a rushed video.

Playing around with it tonight, there were some strange things going on. I was able to pick stuff up on this set, but not the Prominent I already had and I wasn’t able to pick up stuff on this set that I could get on the Prominent.

For a moment I thought it might’ve been a Stasi bugged radio that had laid undiscovered all these years!

If I was technically minded, I’d have the insides out and give them a good clean up but I’m not. If you know anything about GDR radio sets, you’ll know that most of the wires inside are thin and fragile, so I think they’re best left untouched.

Stay tuned (pun intended) for more adventures with the Strela. I’m sure there’s going to be many more fascinating and exciting nights, up and down the dial.

Day 20: Strela Makafi!

I missed a few days because I was busy but welcome back to reintroducing my trolls!

Bio:

Strela is a powerful psionic who was born without eyes. That's right, behind those shades is jack shit! She actually uses her psionics as a sort of echolocation, bouncing waves of them off objects in order to "see." With all this in mind, Strela hasn't had an easy go of life. She spent most of her earlier years being told by other trolls that all she was good for was the helmsblock, a fate that she wasn't exactly looking forward too. Despite this, though, she's always had a strong spirit and a quick wit, something that's got her in trouble nearly as much as it's gotten her out of it. Using it, she managed to escape immediate enlistment as a helmstroll, if only to end up on the Empire's wanted list. That all changed, however when she met her now matesprit, Petrus, a rebel violetblood who uses his status to protect her almost as much as she protects him (mostly from himself). Now she lives as the captain and "free helmsman" of their ship, the "Flying Fish." A registered research vessel, and secret rebel ferry.

Okay, so, Strela was like the third or fourth fantroll I made. She hasn't changed much but I also don't 100% remember why I made her the way that I did. She was going to be a part of the fanventure I'm probably never going to make and I know I did some things for plot reasons, but that's complicated and I don't feel like getting into all that.

1971 Rolex GMT-master beyond Iron Curtain During the 1970s, at least two cosmonauts were training at Star City – Moscow wearing a Rolex GMT-master Pepsi pilot watch. In this Soyuz 10 training photo, we see cosmonaut Shatalov was wearing a Rolex GMT-master 1675 pilot watch while his colleagues Yeliseyev & Rukavishnikov wore Russian Strela chronographs. A few year later in July 1973 and September 1974, NASA photos show that  Shatalov was still wearing his Rolex GMT-master pilot watch during ASTP-training at JSC Houston in the USA. Rolex has the most different space-flown wrist watch versions, as at least 8 were worn in space (GMT-master, GMT-master II, Datejust, Daytona 6263, Submariner, Sea Dweller, Yachtmaster and Oysterquartz).
