Street Urchin (Manchester) – March 2020

Chance your meal with a changing menu at Street Urchin

Off we went to a cute and cosy corner Northern Quarter to try it out because of all the good reviews. Go early on in the evening (as we did), and you practically have the place to yourselves. We loved the selection available of which we thoroughly enjoyed the starters.

Our bellies were filled with;

Homemade Sweet Potato Gnocchi - This was with leek and spinach sauce, fried aubergine and pine nut salad and this was our favourite savoury dish of our meal. Everything on the plate was delicious and complimented one another really well. It’s a small plate and we could have easily eaten two plates

Smoked Haddock Fishcake - This was with crispy poached egg and hollandaise gnocchi. Another classic executed well, with pure love for the egg and the fishcake full of tasty mash potato

Grilled Fish - This was with mushy peas and lemon salsa and was what it says it was. It was a fresh fish and probably could have done with a bit more seasoning. The tartare/lemon salsa was creamy with subtle crunchiness from the dill pickle, and all with a really nice tang from the lemon juice

And then on to our favourite item of the meal, our pudding;

Manchester Moneybags - This was the best of all the dishes we tried and with a hot take on the Manchester tart. Pastry balls filled with custard and coated with coconut and jam that are deep-fried and served with hot jam. It’s the perfect school pudding of your memories

The Manchester Moneybags really blew us away and we’re definitely going to be back to check out their daily menu

Back in da dizzle when i thought i thought i was roadman. Remember the old Edmonton Green and the music stall. We thought we were the gulliest gang. I was 15 or 16 in this pic and it was summer holidays. We still used Nokia's and Motorola's but never had credit so would use the phone box 20p "blood meet me in the green". We would split a 10 draw between 4 and still get high (10z was the size 1.5 then). Pet Portrait Tess & Kate 24in x 36in x 1.375in This was a fun project. The client wanted a painting of her dogs as an old time police officer and a street urchin. I found a stock photo that we both agreed would work well as the backdrop and then I mocked it up using Photoshop. I complete an acrylic paint undercoat and then reworked the details using oil paints. I then added a tint to the varnish to create a sepia tone to the finished product. I use high-quality heavyweight stretched canvases, and recreate your submitted image into a fun, bright new work of art using an acrylic base with oil paint top coats.
