Street racer! Suguru, who you go from enemies to lovers with in the most unique way.

You met when you were around 17 years old.

Originally you two didn't click.

Yes, he's gorgeous, and charismatic, but also arrogant and seems to not value women, or at least, that's what you think.

You don't race. You're only at the car meets and alike because your best friend, Ryomen Sukuna, races. (Besides- You don't have a driver's license.)

Originally, Suguru never looked at you twice.

Yes, he knew who you were, and sure, you were at least kinda good looking.

But not pretty by his standard.

You don't wear short skirts, nor show off a lot of skin. Nah, you wear whatever you want, and it's always a question whenever you're in the mood to have been wearing make up that night.

You're the simple kind of girl who doesn't catch his eye. (Enough girls did though, he was rarely single.)

Your best friend, however, is a whole different story. 

Ryomen Sukuna was quick, amazingly so. Perhaps even the fastest on track. 

Suguru's best friend Satoru is the only one who can keep up.

And at first, Suguru doesn't care.

The other kid he was racing had crashed too, his girlfriend injured in his passenger seat, guilt and panic overtaking his actions.

He doesn't notice Suguru, heavily injured in his own car.

You're the first to notice that he's late.

Suguru lost occasionally, sure, but the other kid hasn't arrived either, which was suspicious.

With a sigh, you had turned to Satoru, who was chatting up a girl he was known for having the hots for (she still hasn't agreed to let him take her out), but he had simply waved you off.

Rolling your eyes, you turn to Sukuna instead  calling him to check out their track, see if something happened.

He agrees. ( He'll take any excuse to drive anywhere, anytime.)

Of course, you come across the scene of the crash.

Sukuna is quick to call the cops, while you race over to Suguru with wide eyes.

He's stuck in the car, heavily injured.

He's barely able to keep his eyes open as he looks at you.

(Later, you'd find out that he had a girlfriend during this time, and that she was at the car meet during the crash- she had been chatting up other boys. Also, you'll learn that she broke up minutes before your first hospital visit.- She didn't want to care for him. )

Due to the extent of his injuries, he needs a lot of extra care. One of his legs broken, one of his arms healing from fire wounds because of when his engine caught fire while he was stuck.

And you're the only one there to do that.

Out of your own free will.

Satoru is busy.

He leads the same life as Suguru after all, so Suguru understands. 

They were both sons of business men. Future ceo's of big companies.

Suguru's parents were disappointed, and turned a blind eye to him and his needs.

Instead, they hired someone to attend to him.

Which turned out to have been unnecessary. 

You turn out to have a big heart.

Coincidentally, this happens during one of the school breaks (you're in college) and you care for him every moment while you're not at your side job or don't have anything important to attend.

You care for him at a level where you would sometimes stay in the guest room of the house. You care enough for his parents to notice you.

He starts to see you in a different light.

You're beautiful. 

He never realized he'd find someone attractive by especially their personality. 

But he also realizes you're too good for him.

He's done nothing but ignore you after all. 

At most, he'd send you a cocky glance, yet here you are, tending to his every meet.

It nearly makes him sad that you'll spend less time once he's healed and college classes have started again.

He's in college too, but in a different, high class school.

He finds himself reaching out to you more often.

You hang out more often too.

At the same time, Satoru and his crush advance too, and eventually after one of the car meets (one Sukuna isn't attending, you usually tag along with him, but you actually came with Suguru,) Suguru, Satoru, his crush and you tag along to a restaurant.

You decide to go in one car to cut parking costs.

An interesting detail is that Suguru never lets anyone besides Satoru sit beside him up front if multiple people are in his car.

It's always been like that.

He also drives one of those three door cars, where you gotta push the seat up in order to climb into the back.

But to your utter surprise, he stops you as you're about to climb in behind the passenger seat, telling Satoru, his best friend to sit in the back instead.

It makes your eyes widen, though Satoru doesn't mind, all too happy to get up close with his crush.

(Also, he knows Suguru likes you. He most definitely doesn't mind.)

You're the first girl to sit up front besides Suguru. None of his ex girlfriends ever sat beside him in the front seat. It had always been Satoru.

And now it's you.

Later on, he doesn't let you pay either.

Things between the two of you are going smoothly, and Suguru nearly has the guts to try and ask you out, when you suddenly have a boyfriend.

The two of you talk less. And it sucks. Suguru hates it.

Sukuna tells him that the dude you're dating is a douche too. 

The Douche hates the platonic bond you share with Sukuna (it's a sibling like relationship.) And also dislikes Suguru.

Suguru is quick to join you at your other side, which leaves Satoru and Shoko to sit opposite along with Douche.

Douche adds fuel onto the fire by adding the spiciest dish the restaurant has, even challenging the cooks to make it spicier.

(Later on, you tell Suguru that Douche has a weak stomach, which Douche was well aware of, but ignored.)

Not only does Douche nearly cry because of the spiciness, but he also makes the dinner awkward by suffering cuz of the heat. 

In fact, the mood is ruined to such a level, that everyone passes up dessert.

(The restaurant has the best mochi in town in multiple flavours- Suguru knows you love them.)

And the bill is split.

(Suguru is disgusted when your boyfriend doesn't pay for you, and pays for your part.

You're wife material, and deserve the very best and to be pampered.- In his most humble opinion.)

Later on, (barely five minutes later), Douche realizes he has to throw up, unable to handle the spicy food.

You're borderline embarrassed as Douche throws up in a garbage bin (thankfully out of sight) once you're on your way to the car garage.

Suguru feels borderline disgusted with Douche as he casually comes back after throwing up.

Douche reaches out to you, but it seems Sukuna and Suguru have the same thing in mind.

Suguru is quick to gently take you by the hand and pull you in his embrace, while Sukuna roughly grabs Douche by the hair and all but punches him in the face.

No one feels sorry except for you when they leave him in the city by himself.

Once again, you're seated up front in the passenger seat like the passenger princess you are while Satoru, Shoko and Sukuna are squeezed in the back.

It's quiet for a while, until Sukuna eventually tells you to just break up with him.

It kinda goes back and forth between Suguru, Sukuna, Shoko and you for a while. Because you don't want to, for whatever reason.

Suguru doesn't understand why you're willing to hang out with that douche and put yourself through his bullshit until everyone is out of the car and he finally asks you.

But then you get a little shifty and uncomfortable, admitting that Douche is your very first boyfriend.

For a moment Suguru is speechless, because you're a beautiful person inside and out, he never expected that at all.

"Got it," Brian replied, holding his phone with his shoulder as he pressed on the gas, "thanks."

"Don't mention it." his ex-co-worker spoke to him, "I mean it don't, the chief is already on my ass, and this could cost me my job. you could get caught. Are you sure she's really worth it?"

Brian caught a brief look at the sign he drove past. Miami 342 miles. Carson had been living here for over a year, he came to discover.

"I wouldn't be risking my freedom if she wasn't would I?"

"Goodbye, O'Conner. Don't get caught."

Brian pulled his phone away and took another look at the address. Florida wasn't Carson's seen and he knew that because he knew her, and he knew that he fucked up, he lied to her for months, and broke her trust and her heart.

And on top of that, he was stalking her... Trailing her - what the police force would refer to it as, but he wasn't a cop anymore. He was on the run, escaping police custody once was one thing, but helping Dom, a known criminal to escape was another. He yearned for normalcy, for the love he could only give and receive from one person.

"Yo?" a familiar voice echoed through his cell.

Brian smiled, "Tej man, wassup?"

"Bullit? That you? Haven't heard from you in a minute, you still racin'?"

"Never stopped," Brian adjusted his hand on the wheel of his Skyline.

"Well if you're ever in my city, holla."

Brian hummed, "Do you still have that houseboat?"

Tej quirked up a brow, "Yeah, why?"

"Check it, I need a place to stay. You cool with that?"

"That's cool, but you're gonna have to race, can't keep that talent on the low." Tej chuckled.

Brian couldn't help but smile, "You tryin' pimp me out?"

"Call it whatever you want, but let me know when you've touched down. I'll introduce you to my people."

"I think I know a few people man. Someone in particular."

"Oh yeah, Who's that?" Tej's eyes travelled over to the stylish girl sighing as she worked over the hood of her car. "Suki, careful baby, don't over-exert yourself" Brian perked up at the mention of the girl, "You gotta a woman Brian?"

Brian stiffened, "Had. But that won't be the case for too long."

"I know that's right. Later man."

"Later," Brian ended the call and grinned.

and like I've never really gotten into the organisations (at least at the level of idk Facebook groups) that I assume must exist to bring together us non-stereotypical riders, because I've never been one to join groups specifically of/for Women if it can possibly be helped.

(also I was tagging this post and Tumblr suggested "#biker girl" and that's another reason I guess - the language is, uh, not to my taste often. "Biker girl", "Lady riders" it's like. in this context i'm okay being rounded off to a 'woman', i have material interests and relevant traits in common with that category with respect to being more likely to encounter certain attitudes and barriers in terms of assumptions about the physical traits of the "average biker" that do not apply to us.

I personally have a very 'feminine' frame (short, small hands, low centre of gravity, strength concentrated in the lower body) and that's extremely relevant to choice of motorbike, such that it's practically the only purchase where I find it useful for people to tell me that x is very popular with women or my girlfriend likes it and so on.

This can also often be a barrier to the hobby - riding schools tend to get in high-seated, top-heavy street racer style bikes because they're cheap and easy to repair, which put short people with less upper body strength at a huge disadvantage and may in some cases* be simply unsafe for them to ride. If a woman who is new to the hobby doesn't know about this (and she's new; how would she?) and her riding school decides not to admit that her struggling is their fault (because then they might be asked why the fuck they took her money without checking they had anything suitable for her to ride), they send her away feeling like she can't do it and it doesn't feel good to her anyway, and if I had to guess, this is probably a huge reason for both the continued rarity of women bikers and their (apparent) tendency to be people introduced to the hobby via a close personal connection like a father or a boyfriend.

The shape of me means I'm also subject to the relative paucity, expense and stereotypical stylings of clothes for "lady bikers" - I can't just shop in the menswear section as it's very important that protective clothing fit correctly, or else the armour won't rest over what it needs to protect.)

*if the seat height is too high relative to the rider's leg length, they won't be able to find stable purchase on the ground when supporting the bike while stopped or nearly-stopped. That's dangerous, and massively increases the risk of the bike tipping over sideways when stopping or setting off.

Incidentally,

A ) it's frequently possible to have a motorbike seat lowered (within certain limits imposed by the frame) - I'm taking my full test on a bike with the usual street-sporty stylings riding schools go in for, but with a lowered seat.

B ) many styles of motorbike - anything in the cruiser/bobber/tourer styleset, and a lot of classics (for the uninitiated: imagine kinds of motorbike where you don't lean forward while you're riding them) - come as standard with seat heights lower than the lowest most street bikes can be adjusted down to. Everyone rides them like that, whatever their height, so they would work for learners of almost any height.(some very tall people don't prefer them - but, as I understand it, this is more of a comfort thing and less of an inarguable safety problem than the reverse situation) Bobbers/tourers/classics are also easier to keep upright for everyone (when stopped, this is more relevant for those with less upper body strength, but side winds don't discriminate!), and the more upright riding posture allows for better use of the mirrors and a fuller view of the road ahead.

...and yet, riding schools (even the one I use now, which is, relatively speaking, extremely good for women riders!) seem to universally go for the street racer style bikes, rather than (as would have made intuitive sense to me) having a variety on hand to accommodate different bodies and preferences.

I have to assume the reason is economic - certainly the cheapest 125 made by all the major retailers right now seems to be a street racer style bike.

(However - so much of the cost of riding a 125 as a learner is the insurance, and I gather it's a big expense for the schools as well. Given the objective benefits discussed above, it's surprising to me that there's not a big insurance differential that might incentivise the use of more stable bikes that give learners a better view of the road.)

I'll give a few examples

When you're born, you're not the same size you are now. If you can read this at all, you're at least 3x the size you were when you were a newborn baby. Probably even bigger.

In an organizational sense, you could take that to mean "in any organization, growth is necessary for survival"

I don't think there's a business owner or investor alive who would disagree with that statement.

However; if you are an adult now, reading this, chances are that you're done growing.

You only grow the first two decades-ish of your life. You can thrive for another eight decades or even longer in some cases, and the "growth" portion of your life is over

All those business people's eyes are glazing over now.

But pay attention. It's you I'm talking to. Constant and unrestricted growth, as the backbone of each and every society and business is absolutely toxic, and the reason we keep destroying everything beautiful we build

Another example

You're in your car. You see a highway. Everyone on that highway is driving faster than you and you know in order to join that highway, you need to accelerate to around the same speed everyone else is going.

How much do you really need to accelerate?

Anyone who has ever been on a highway will tell you that no one is just CONSTANTLY accelerating. Even the ridiculous street racers zipping in and out through traffic slow down once in a while to line up and start racing. And once that race is over, whether you want to admit it or not, they *rejoin the regular flow of traffic*

Yes. That same Toyota Supra that you saw screaming by a minute ago, is about a mile ahead of you, just another car in traffic now. Having won the big race with their buddy, they're now chatting with their girlfriend in the passenger seat and picking some tunes.

*There is always a point when it's enough*

For society, for business, why is there somehow this belief that you can get out on the road and just keep accelerating faster and faster and faster? That supra driver knows that if they keep driving the same way, keep accelerating and never slow down, they're going to crash and die, and in all likelihood, take some innocent person with them.

You HAVE to recognize that there's a point where you can stop.

The supra is the perfect example of "move fast and break things" (the law being the thing that's broken in this example) that some businesses take as their mantra.

So why then, are they not as smart as that supra driver and, knowing the big race has been won, slowing down and rejoining the regular flow of traffic?

You're still gonna be the cool one

You're still gonna get lots of looks

You're still going to get compliments left and right. And there will be lots of chances to show off what you can do.

But a baby, having grown into an adult, stops growing.

A street racer, having proven their car faster than the other car, slows down

That adult doesn't stop moving. They don't just die once they've reached adulthood. You could say that's barely where the adventure begins.

That racer getting where they're going is not suddenly about to tear apart their car and sell it for scraps. They're going to race again. And again. And again. And they're going to have fun the entire time

It's up to you to figure out what adulthood looks like for your country, your business, your organization.

It's up to you to realize, "we won the race, we proved our point. We can cruise now. If we find another opportunity to kick butt, we'll jump at it. But for now, let's crank up the music and cruise"

"I'm tired. I'm fucking tired, Ashlyn," Max said, sitting down on the bed next to the his girlfriend. There was a note of impotence in his voice. Did he think a few years ago that it would be so difficult for him to win one race after another? That it would be so hard. And it's not even about the strength of rivals or a bad car. It's all about people. No matter how hard he tried to show that they had no effect on him, his heart ached unpleasantly from everything that awaited him every day. Fame sometimes has a bad effect on the humanity inside you. You try to be strong, show the best results, fight honestly for the title... and you find yourself face to face with people . There are those to whom Max is insanely grateful - his fans always support him, arrange various events, draw posters of support. Recently he heard a song on the street, a very funny song. There was something like that tu-tu-tu-tu Max Verstappen. He still sometimes hums this melody to himself, as if supporting himself. But there are others. Aren't they called haters? Such people whistle after you, write unpleasant comments. "What a blessing that Max didn't get on the podium. We need to celebrate this, dudes", "Poor Max. It serves you right", "I wish you were eliminated in the first round." At first it seriously upset him, but now he just laughs and thinks how pathetic they are. Stupid idiots who were offended that he overtook their favorite team by car, for which they had been rooting almost since childhood. Such people don't even stand next to him. Someone even called him a villain. Max once laughed and said, "Well, then I'm the most beautiful villain in the world." He didn't consider himself evil. Only sometimes he got angry if his rivals couldn't see beyond their own noses or when he made a stupid mistake. Monster Max, oh my God, save yourself. If you don't know personally, then don't judge publicly. Since childhood, he dreamed of becoming a Formula 1 racer. He wanted to win, to drive at great speed, to overtake rivals. He did everything possible and impossible to get behind the wheel of a racing car. And his dream came true. Thanks to perseverance and the desire to act. He was considered a young talent, a Red Bull star. Great hopes were pinned on him. And he justified them. Became the best. He showed everyone his trademark smile from time to time. He was turning into a robot. Only his family and girlfriend brought him back to life. Max met Ashlyn Skyler at a party he attended at a friend's request. He immediately singled her out from the rest. Her smile stunned him. A few days later, he decided to write to her on Instagram and arranged a meeting. And it so happened that she was with him almost from the very beginning of his career in Formula 1. She was with him for better and for worse. She was always there, gave love and tenderness, was present at every race and watched the car with the number 33, and later 1, with a rapid heartbeat. She watched her beloved. She rejoiced at every victory and podium, she cried because of every failure and every defeat. She kisses him on the forehead and continues stroking his hair.

"It's all right, baby. We'll manage. There are two free days ahead, and then you will have to return to training. I'm here, remember that.

- I love you very much.

- I love you even more.

- That's not true. I love you more. And don't argue with me.

- I'm terribly scared. What are you going to do to me, Your Majesty?

- Mmm.

Max smiles slyly and pulls away a little. He puts one hand on Ash's soft cheek and pulls her closer. He touches his lips to hers, kissing her gently. How many kisses there have been over the years of their relationship, but there has never been such a kiss yet. In that kiss there was all the pain, all the love and all the desire to be with each other. They loved each other and continued to be close, no matter what. They enjoyed every day spent with each other. They were happy to be together. And no one could make them think differently. Max loved Ashlyn, Ashlyn loved Max. They went through all the difficulties together. Finally breaking away from such sweet lips, Verstappen lies down again in the place where he was quite recently. He is silent and enjoys the warmth coming from the girl. The warmth of the house. Ashlyn was the whole world to him, and he wanted to keep that world. Therefore, at first Max did not want to advertise their relationship, he met Ashlyn secretly. He was afraid that the bad words would reach her. But about two years ago, they appeared together at a party on the occasion of Max's victory at the annual competition. Since then, they have not hidden that they are dating, and Ashlin is part of that limited circle of people who are allowed to see the rider himself before the race.

- Do you remember that we have to go for an interview tomorrow?

- Max... "We"?

- Damn, didn't I tell you? Sorry, baby. We were invited to some show where we will talk about you and me, within reasonable limits, of course. If you don't mind, I'll cancel it.

Reminiscence

Standing in silence with your childhood friend made the world make sense, it felt like everything was being in place - like a completed jigsaw puzzle. Even though it was nearing the end of winter the nighttime breeze was still as icy as ever but you cannot find it in yourself to care. Your mind only reminisces over the first fifteen years of your life - the only years where Iwaizumu was with you. 

You suck in a deep breath, ‘you know, I’ve really missed you,’ your eyes widen before you exhale with a large smile.

‘I was just about to say that… Haji.’ Iwaizumi stiffens next to you, how long had it been since he heard that irritating nickname? Perhaps about eight, nine… maybe ten years? ‘Remember when we were younger, we would sneak out of our windows and meet on top of my roof where we’d have a picnic under the stars. My parents thought we had a rat problem for months before they figured out!’

Iwaizumi laughs, ‘what about the time we built a pillow fort in my living room and it collapsed on us? We were so sad it collapsed but we didnt make an effort to fix it, we just stayed there watching youtube and eating gummy worms.’

You smile whole heartedly and feel your cheeks hurt, ‘it’s been so long since I’ve been able to relax with someone by my side. I'm glad to have you back buddy.’

He looks down and lightly scuffles his foot, ‘yeah, me too. I'm glad to be back.’ 

You sigh as you look up to the sky, ‘one day let’s have another picnic amongst the stars.’

He lets out a breathy ‘yeah.’ You move closer to Iwaizumi, he does the same. Without knowing what overcomes you, you lay your head against his arm - like you used to. For some reason you found it to be more intimate than when you were fourteen but it didn't stop you. No, you couldn't find it in yourself to care, all that mattered was that your best friend - who you lost contact with, was back by your side. 

Iwaizumi felt his heart begin to accelerate. For some reason feeling you against him felt more dangerous than speeding down the highway during the unholy hours of the morning. He didn't realise until after he had done it but he still couldn't bring himself to stop slowly running his hand through your hair. To him, your hair is perfect. It reminds him of home - of an innocent childhood filled with laughter. The two of you stay like that for a while, saying nothing as you bask in one another’s presence. 

Suddenly you hear someone clear their throat from behind, both of you jump away from each other. 

‘I’ve been looking for you for the past fifteen minutes. Didn't expect to find you here,’ Oikawa pauses and looks over to you; frowning when you make eye contact. ‘Nevertheless, tonight we’re finding out about next week’s race and Shiratorizawa is racing.’ he turns away and takes a few steps before he looks back at Iwaizumi, ‘you coming?’

For a moment, Iwaizumi looks hesitant but that goes as quick as it comes as he jogs to catch up to Oikawa; ‘I'll see you later, Yn!’

You stay standing there, staring at their backs as they disappear from your line of vision. There was something gnawing at your heart but you repress it - knowing all too well the painful feeling of love and heartbreak.

‘Oh Yn! You're here! I thought i was going to have to watch the race alone!’ 

You send Sugawara a half assed smile, ‘yeah sorry about that.’

Sugawara side eyes you, ‘what's with the long face. Looks like someone just told you Santa isn’t real.’

You scoff at his lame joke, ‘well yeah I'm just going through things.’

He places his hand on your knee, ‘well, if you ever need to talk i'm here.’ 

This time you cannot stop yourself from letting a warm smile make its way across your features. ‘Thanks… Suga.’

Much like last time the cars line up and get ready to race; ‘see that mustang there? It belongs to Ushijima ‘Ushiwaka’ Wakatoshi. The racers call him Demon of the Track because of how stable and fast he is. Sure he can do the fancy stuff like the block and run, but his specialty lies in pressing down the accelerator  and speeding his way to the finish line. No one outside of Shiratorizawa knows how he does it - how he wins with sheer brute force. He's a mystery that many want solved but no one wants to solve.’ You can only stare in awe at Ushijima’s car, it was a beautiful maroon colour that sparkled under the lights. It was a total contrast to Oikawa’s shining white and blue car.

He doesn't work as often as his counterparts but it's quite often nonetheless. So he appreciates the domesticity of the whole thing. He always has this huge grin when he comes home, his kids jumping in his arms as he walks into the kitchen and sees you making dinner for the family and he's so in awe when he sees your kids help you make dinner. He buys them all little motorcycles with matching helmets, obviously safe for the mids, little mini bikes so he can ride around with them. He is definitely a family man and would love a partner like this.

He's with you constantly, so there's no one too get jealous of because you're the only person he has interactions with. He's fine with your need for constant attention because he gets bored and would rather fuck you and have a good time rather then argue about or over pointless shit. If you guys are out, which is pretty rare, and you get possessive? Not gonna lie, he thinks that shit is pretty hot and he'll go as far as too egg you on. But if you wanna shove your tongue down his throat anytime someone tries too flirt with him, he's all go with it, he'll even let you run your hands up his shirt as you guys make-out. Kanto- He does not like that, at all. Who do you think you are too be blowing up his phone when he's busy? He has stuff too do, you are not his main priority and he makes that known, so.. if he has too get a little physical with you, he will. If you try and start pointless arguments because he missed your call, you won't be hearing from him for a while. He'll have his phone turned off and you won't have anyway of getting in contact with him. When you ask his men, they tell you they don't know where he is or who he's with, as instructed by Mikey himself. If your need for attention starts too show while he's in a meeting and you decide too just slip your hand up his thigh, he's slapping it away and taking you to your room, leaving you their so he can finish the meeting with no problem, then he'll come back and discipline you. Bonten- He doesn't really care, he's with you most of the time anyway. If he's in an important meeting and you pull some shit like that though? He's not gonna be too happy with you, and since your so worried about where he is all the time, he might purposely stay away for days. He doesn't really care for your jealousy issues, and by that I mean, he gets sick of that shit, it doesn't really make sense to him because if he wanted too be with someone else, he would be. He can be pretty hypocritical though, because he wants you too constantly send him update, he just gets annoyed when you do it. Street Racer- He thinks it's sweet that you're so possessive. It just shows him how much you love, in his head anyway. Because to him, you wouldn't constantly wanna be with him if you didn't love him, right? He does ensure you that, you have nothing too worry about, he would never leave you. He does pick up your constant calls and reply to your texts as quickly as possible, simply for the fact that he doesn't see it as a big deal and really doesn't wanna argue over a missed call. So, if he's really busy or thinks he might be occupied for a bit, he'll text you before-hand, letting you know he'll be out for a bit. He'll even send you updates, like he's getting food with friends or spending time with family.
