Moondog, Steve Reich, and Bob Weir,  Brooklyn Academy of Music’s New Music America Gala,  November  1989. Street poet-musician Moondog,  blind since the age of 16, was frequently homeless in New York City in the late 60s when Philip Glass moved him into his apartment for a year. The two along with Steve Reich, would often rehearse together around then, after which he’d ‘drifted off to Europe’,  few knowing his whereabouts, until this event at BAM in 1989, when he returned to NYC. Russia Street Musician Series: Yulia, who is blind, was standing in the middle of an outdoor market in Moscow singing what she called 'Soviet' hits. She said she taught herself. With her guide dog at her side, Yulia won the hearts of the babushki that pass through the market, quite a few of whom left money.
