Giving "Chance" a Second Chance
On Monday, August 17th 2020, I was scrolling through Facebook when I came across this post.
I rushed at the opportunity to save this little soul, even though he was half way around the globe. Seeing a post like that and having the ability to help or even save this poor dog, I knew I had to hit pause on what I was doing and figure out a way to help.
That day, I reached out to one of our team members (Joanna) who has helped us many times before with feeding and saving strays. She was quick to say yes, so we got her to the scene immediately. Upon arriving, "Browny" named by the construction workers, was living on a construction site and would occasionally get fed by the construction workers. He was very weak, frail, and needing of basic necessities as he was starving for days on end with no place to call a real home.
As Joanna held out a hand to meet Browny for the first time, it looked as though he had distemper. Similar to HIV in humans, it is a medical illness dogs may contract from one another spread through saliva, urine or even blood that unfortunately, kills most stray dogs. As Joanna looked into his eyes further, there was an immediate build in trust and hope that led Browny to allow her to pet him. At that moment, she knew he was a sweet and hopeful soul, looking for someone or somewhere to call home.
The construction workers then helped to get Browny off the construction site and into the van with Joanna. She then took him to his first ever vet appointment where she learned about his kidney failure. He was in desperate need of serious medical care. With this information, we knew it was going to be hard, but we knew we needed to give him a second chance. It was then, I decided on his new name, "Chance". We had high hopes for Chance. However, he was reluctant to eat or even drink water. Joanna was under his full care, watching and caring for him around all hours of the day/night. She would syringe feed him, since that was the only way he would really eat. She would give him words of encouragement and most importantly together, we gave him a place to call home. Throughout the process of showing Chance what love was like, he seemed more hopeful and his willingness to eat was improving. Sadly, even after all the love and vet care, we were just too late. On Tuesday, August 25th, Chance said his last goodbyes and crossed over. We were distraught, as we couldn't be there to even get a chance to say hello or even goodbye but luckily our team member, Joanne, was there to comfort him through it all.
Through Chance's passing, we have come together and to want to make an impact on the world. We share his story not so we can benefit from it, but to help others like him because the truth is... all strays deserve a second Chance.

Stray Faces: Our Story
Our journey began in late 2016 when Tony and I (Roxanne) first met.
Our desire for something more in life quickly drew us together and not long after, we decided to both quit our 9-5 jobs, sell all of our possessions, and set off into the world in hopes of finding something more fulfilling in life -- our calling.
We didn't know where we were going or why, but we knew there had to be something more for us out there then the mundane, repetitive and meaningless lives we had been living.
What was originally planned to be a 6-month backpacking trip throughout Southeast Asia, quickly turned into something that we would of never expected.
As we began our journey backpacking Southeast Asia, we started to notice the countless number of stray animals that lined the streets... something neither of us had ever seen before as Canadians.
Like many others visiting Southeast Asia, we knew we wanted to help but we didn't know how... The problem seemed so extreme and hopeless that we had no choice but to continue forward and turn our backs on the problem. In an effort to help in what ways we could, we decided to start feeding the ones we encountered along the way and before we knew it, we were carrying pet food with us wherever we went.
After 1 short month into our trip, we found ourselves at the peak of a hill by a temple in Chiang Mai, Thailand and it was there that we met a dog we eventually named "Dipper".
Before we had met Dipper, we never truly had a deep bond or connection with any of the others strays we had fed. But Dipper was unlike any other stray we had ever met. Other dogs had always been wary and standoffish, but not Dipper. He approached us as if he had known us his whole life and just like that, we fell in love with Dipper the stray dog.
We went back to our room that night and couldn't help but to think about Dipper. Although Tony and I had always been animal lovers, we never shared such an immediate bond with an animal before. We had 5 months left in our backpacking trip and plenty more to see, but no matter how hard we tried, we couldn't shake the thought of leaving Dipper behind.
That's when we decided to drop the rest of our trip in order to stray with Dipper in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
We struggled to find a pet-friendly place to bring him home to so we drove up to the mountain top every day. It wasn't long after that when we realized that Dipper wasn't alone and many other strays started to emerge. Feeding Dipper along with all the other strays quickly became part of our daily routine, and before we knew it, we were making the 90-minute journey up the mountain daily to ensure they were all fed.
Some time passed and finally, we were able to take Dipper home. We were delighted to finally be able to bring him home with us but something was off.
Dippers health rapidly began to decline. We quickly took him to the vet and that's when we learned about Distemper - a fatal viral infection with no known cure that affected many strays.
Unfortunately, distemper eventually caught up with Dipper and he passed away not long after being diagnosed. It was then that we decided to do what we could to help the stray animals. After using up all of our own time, money and resources, we came to the sad realization that we could never do it on our own and decided to launch a gofundme campaign in hopes of helping the other strays before it was too late.
After speaking and working with various organizations in the area, we learned how much of an uphill battle we were truly facing and we knew we could never do it on our own. We knew we had to find a way and it was then that Stray Faces was born.
A business built to fund a cause.
Our cause. Our passion. Our calling.

omg i'm not a vegetarian but I imagine that it must've been horrible for you to have swallowed chicken o.o just out of curiosity, why are you vegetarian?
i am a vegetarian because i choose to be.
uh im not seeking to 'convert' any meat eaters out there, like i believe its a personal choice.
So the reason why i'm a vegetarian is because think it is so hypocritical for us westerners to look at people who eat dogs and cats and think it 'barbaric' and 'wrong', when we eat things like cows and sheep etc. Like what makes a cow or sheep so special from a dog or a cat? Does eating a different form of meat makes westerners less 'barbaric' and 'wrong' than the other cultures that do?
I like to think that i am respecting life by being a vegetarian. but of course i know that my role is small, im pretty sure that some of my actions indirectly contribute the deaths of animals but that cannot be helped.
