It looks like Romania won’t be joining Schengen after all. 😞
#it’s particularly disappointing because this year we actually got everyone’s approval#EVEN THE NETHERLANDS’#everyone’s but Austria’s#who ACCEPTED our request earlier this year#but Nehammer’s party has lost popular support lately 😢#he HAS to win over his electorate somehow#so he wants to blame Romania and the Balkans for Austria’s recent influx of illegal immigrants#he needs a scapegoat so his part can win in the regional elections#Romania isn’t even part of the route used by migrants to reach Austria#it’s usually through Serbia Croatia and Hungary#what’s worrying is that Austria’s veto will fuel the far right movement here#and show Russia just how fragile EU consensus is#strange how Austria rejected three countries’ request to join Schengen#and Hungary vetoed the financial aid plan for Ukraine#...#Nehammer and Orban are closer than ever to reviving their old alliance#romania#my entries#it’s just so frustrating 😞
