Story

Story is something distinctively mine, not a part that another can take and destroy. Story encapsulates taking me to a place protected, not enabling it to be altered in a way to fit inside of someone else’s expectations but expressed uniquely though my eyes. Wanting that to be what speaks from the mountaintops; echoing off the canyon walls; and rippling in the river below, creating concentric circles as the waters are carried out to sea. +++

SSO MAGIC SYSTEM (unofficial/speculation) 4 main magic families:

1. LIGHT MAGIC Alignment: Good (wants to help others) Attributes: life, healing, warmth, soul power Creatures: Aetherians (Aideen, Fripp) Magic users: Druids (they use a mix of Light and Earth magic)

2. EARTH MAGIC Alignment: Neutral (can be used for both good and evil) Attributes: nature, weather, plants and animals, entrophy (can’t coexist with Pandorian- just for a short time) Creatures: Earthlings (humans) Magic users: Witches (only use Earth magic: Mrs Holdsworth, Pi, Sive, Sedna, Uyarak)

3. PANDORIA MAGIC Alignment: Neutral (can be used for both good and evil) Attributes: time and space, illusions, transformation (can’t coexist with Earth- just in bubbles) Creatures: Pandorians (Ydris) Magic users: Sorcerers (only use Pandorian magic)

4. VOID MAGIC Alignment: Evil (wants to harm others) Attributes: death, darkness, cold, decay, corruption. Creatures: Umbrasians (Garnok, shadow seekers) Magic users: Warlocks (Mr Sands, Darko)

Soul Riders: Light, Earth and Pandorian magic Dark Riders: Void, Earth and Pandorian magic MC: half earthling, half pandorian, free to choose between Light and Void

Based on these- the Lore:

1. On Pandoria -> Garnok is an umbrasian creature, came from the Void, to corrupt and conquer. -> Creatures of light, the aetherians, like Fripp and Aideen, fight the umbrasians. -> Garnok attacks Pandoria, Fripp comes to help them -> Umbrasians are defeated, but corruption remains in Pandoria -> G is put on a ship to be taken to imprisonment, but the corrupted free him

2. On Earth, before Garnok’s imprisonment -> Aideen is another aetherian, arrived on Jorvik, brought life to the island -> Garnok’s ship crashes on Jorvik, Aideen fights the darkness, but can’t win alone -> The good pandorians meet Aideen, join Light, Earth and Pandorian magic to fight Garnok -> They create the ultimate weapon: the Soul Riders -> Garnok does the same: combines Void, Earth and Pandorian to create Dark Riders -> The SRs win, imprison Garnok and his followers at the bottom of the sea -> Aideen used too much of her power in the war, her soul disperses on the island

3. On Earth, after Garnok’s imprisonment -> Garnok’s power keeps seeping out, corrupting Jorvik -> The soul of Aideen the SRs’ and DRs’ all reincarnate-> The Keepers of Aideen and the Soul Riders safeguard the island -> The Dark Riders and corrupted always try to free him -> Many sisterhoods rise and fall, fighting the darkness -> Garnok’s awakening comes ever closer -> Aideen’s power also awakens, her soul reincarnates into the 5th Soul Rider

Chapter IIII: Rewrite

I close the book. Dust is displaced by the motion, dancing in the light of the gas lanterns. I put it under my arm and climb down the ladder. Walking over a few aisles, I put the worn, green volume in its rightful place.  It is the story of a man, born in 1921. He was the first son and fourth child in the family. By 1942, he and his brother both signed up for the war. Herschel was sent off, but Thomas stayed back. He was a chemist and had to work on the Manhattan project. I tend to skip over the middle chapters, since not much happens there. My favorite part is where his granddaughter arrived in America. He watched as his son-in-law carried her down the ramp from the airport. Moving ahead, to her seventh birthday, when he gave her a chemistry kit, just as his father had done. The ending is sad. I don’t like it much. His granddaughter had played several pieces on the viola for him, since he couldn’t make her concert. Her last words to him were, “See you next week.” Thomas died three days later, just as his granddaughter started playing “In the Hall of the Mountain King”.  

I run my hands over the spines of the books as I pass. Hundreds of volumes line the walls, each with a name on the spine and a date below that. Some are very short, only a few chapters long. Others are giant, with hundreds of chapters. I leave the 1900’s behind and turn onto one of the main halls of the library. Rows of shelves line the halls, all with a golden plaque with a century. Each row of shelves represents a year, and the color of the book cover depends on where the person was born. Europe is red, Asia is blue, Africa is yellow, the Americas are shades of green, Oceania is purple.

I once read a wonderful line in a girl’s story: “We are all stories in the end, just make this a good one.” I think of her words all the time. Every book here is the story of a person’s life. I am the Librarian and I swear if one more of Death’s lackeys misplaces a book again, I will personally shred their collection lists.
