How do you think Roose is going to go out in Winds, will he be killed by Ramsay like in the show (in a very different style, obviously) or is it something a bit unexpected?
Not fond of it being similar to the show version because it implies he's not gonna get a lot of screentime in tWoW; it's also kind of a cheap way to give him "karma" for killing robb by just reversing the roles and having roose be at the receiving end of a murderous betrayal. Note also that Theon is absent from this storyline now (since he escaped), and i'd assume Roose as an important tertiary character would have at least one more big chapter in tWoW, so he probably escapes the Winterfell situation alive at the very least until another PoV crosses his path (Asha?).
If Stannis takes Winterfell, i'd assume Roose would be a prisoner for the moment, maybe saved for a Stark to judge over as a show of goodwill; and whatever "northern conspiracy" payoff there is would probably mean that the northmen distance themselves from him as much as possible and make him the fall guy for the entire red wedding + fallout events (which are mostly his fault anyways). Barbrey as a character likely has been added to the story in aDwD to give a bit of diversity to the northern politics, as someone who is not a stark loyalist and has some closer feelings towards roose but also isnt guilty of the red wedding. I think her role might be that she is a bit of a thorn in the otherwise likely clean consensus on what to do with the Bolton problem and she might argue somewhat in Roose' favour politically (maybe arguing against him being executed or otherwise buying him some time).
And the best sword is the one that cuts both ways, he might tell you. Take the Battle of Green Fork. Had his night march taken Lord Tywin unawares and won the battle, he would have smashed the Lannisters and become the hero of the hour. While if it failed... well, you see what happened. The only way he could lose there would be if were captured or slain himself, and he did his best to minimize the chances of that. - GRRM, SSM Feb 3 2001
Roose' storyline so far has been about how he tries to maximize his profits, while also keeping out of harms way and not getting caught. He acts in ways that are morally reprehensive as long as the result is favourable to him and he can get away with it scot free. Yet come aDwD, we start to see that it is getting harder and harder for him to keep this up:
Roose Bolton said nothing at all. But Theon Greyjoy saw a look in his pale eyes that he had never seen before—an uneasiness, even a hint of fear. - a Ghost in Winterfell, aDwD
Ned Stark tried his best to act like a decent person and showed a spine acting openly as such, and after a lifetime of integrity his legacy lives on in his children and people are willing to go to war in his memory. Roose is his foil; he acts morally badly, and spinelessly so as he tries to avoid consequences - so likely as an inversion to Ned his house will go to ruin and the consequences of his actions catch up to him as his modus operandi made him liked by few. So i'd personally find it interesting if he has a fair trial and gets judged the way he deserves, with no way for him to weasel himself out of it again.
My dream tWoW direction would be that he then gets sent to the wall (which also was Ned's initial sentence, another foil moment) and becomes the epilogue PoV and faces an Other - it would be a cool way to hand off the torch from the last big human villain of the wot5k storyline to the center antagonistic force of the war for the dawn storyline (it would also complete the set of Red Wedding architects being epilogue PoVs as the first epilogue in aSoS was a Frey, and the second in aDwD a Lannister). It would also really showcase how inhuman and alien the Others are by taking the coldest and "least humane" human character that everyone jokes is a vampire, and showing that in contrast to them he still is one of us by giving us a view inside his brain and his very human reaction to them.
The real enemy is the cold. - Prologue, aGoT
Reek wondered if Roose Bolton ever cried. If so, do the tears feel cold upon his cheeks? - Reek III, aDwD
He looked deep into the heart of winter, and then he cried out, afraid, and the heat of his tears burned on his cheeks. - Bran III, aGoT
#asks#nizalz#asoiaf#roose bolton#asoiaf meta#not art#ok insane ramble incoming but#when i watched blade runner there was one scene where it seemed to me that#the character of roy batty might have been a bit of inspo to grrm for roose physically#and then theme wise roy batty is an antagonistic character who we are meant to see as inhuman/lacking empathy#but his central scene in the movie proves he actually is as human as deckard#(a scene which grrm describes as giving him chills)#anyways roose is evil but he also is described as very inhuman/cold#yet theon wonders if “roose bolton ever cried”#tears in asoiaf are used as a signifier of humanity#so it feels like the idea of roose being evil yet also proving he is still very human#as opposed to literally an inhuman ice monster#might be something grrm could be interested in#like the very intimate space of being in the brain of a pov and hearing his heartbeats#as he faces an eldritch abomination

(Ssm) To think how much lonely Eddie is and how much he misses his parents imagine when he enters in his dorm he fakes to have a conversation with his parents only to then realize that there’s no one waiting for him,big contrast with Peter that he has aunt may
Eddie had to be one of the other ‘misunderstood’ characters I had ever viewed and even read upon. I know we’ve known his story, his situation and role to be “the villain”, it’s not his fault he fell for the symbiote anyways, despite Venom being a negative influence to him. His inner desire to be cherished, to be loved or be accompanied, I get that knowing Venom is not just his superpower now but a part of him whole like a puzzle piece…

What would be the top ten Harry Osborn that isn't the green goblin stories?
I read this ask and went "ten? Really?", sure I couldn't even come up with ten arcs he had a notable part in. (It's one of the tragedies of Harry Osborn's life that the moments when he's trying to kill his best friend are some of the only times when he has Peter's full attention.)
But then I sat down to write the list and they just kept falling out of my pockets. Not ranked, but in in-universe chronology order:
A childhood flashback. "Nice Things", from Amazing Spider-Man Extra #3. I love this Norman characterization.
Giant-Size Gwen Stacy. High school Harry as Gwen's sidekick... I adore the little friend trio that exists only here.
Obligatory Spider-Man: Blue mention. If you're okay with the background characters truly being in the background, you can also read the non-TLDR'ed version in ASM (1963) #39-47.
Also obligatory ASM #96-98. If people know one thing about silver age Harry, it's the scandalous drug overdose thing. Would be great if they read the actual plotline.
Everyone's read The Night Gwen Stacy Died... so I'll skip ahead to ASM #176-180. Technically he IS the Goblin for a bit during this one, but it belongs here for the finale. Start with ASM #172 for full context, including Liz's side of things.
SSM #63. Getting Harry's house burned down is really not Peter's best moment and that's kind of why I'm putting it on this list.
ASM #260-261, 263: The highest-octane entry in the saga of Hobgoblins harassing the Allan-Osborns. Plus, Normie is born!
"A Matter of Trust", from Amazing Spider-Man Family #4. An exploration of Harry's return in Brand New Day.
"Birthday Boy", from Amazing Spider-Man Extra #1. Short and sweet story about the Peter/Harry friendship.
ASM (2015) #12-15. Rare Slott endorsement. Harry and the ladies bust a supervillain, Peter punches Tony Stark in front of Miles...
As a bonus, the backup story about the Coffee Bean at the end of Amazing Spider-Man Presents: American Son #1. (Ignore the main story, I know he gets shot on the page before the story break, just, don't worry about it, he's fine.)
I'll also drop a handful of underrated bits from the Harryliz era: ASM #188, ASM#249-251, SSM #130, SSM #177... These are more background appearances, but ones that I consider to have solid characterization and/or make up important dots in his overall arc.

at the end of the day i trust ssm on this, but i'll only accept sigyn (loki's other wife in the myths) if 1. that's angrboda's nickname or 2. another pretty black girl who then becomes angie's number one bestie. guess who just listened to brandy ft. monica - the boy is mine and started think of this LOL.
ok i have a few things to say abt this. 1) From what ive seen in the past year, i think the topic of sigyn is unfortunately sensitive in this situation due to the way the fandom treats angrboda and kinda uses sigyn as a “hopeful” replacement against her or want them in a love triangle (and so far, nobody wants that).
Ive recently seen someone make a rant abt how media constantly merges sigyn with angrboda and i respect that rant but this is in terms of the game ONLY. Game development is a much different process than film/TV. And i feel like putting her in would just make things complicated for the development, story, and potentially for atreus and angrboda’s relationship UNLESS its another name for angrboda (which i think most of us agree this is likely) or theyre in a poly relationship (honestly dont want that lol) i dont think we’re gonna see her in the next game due to this and the fact theres not any pointers towards her in the near future (if ever).
2) dont do that. Please. 😭 yall might think im just spewing shit but i can tell you this right now as a black girl myself, this is not healthy way of thinking! I know it is amazing to have representation with those that look like you or are in a similar position as you but theres a high chance youre gonna get disappointed (or maybe not bcuz again, we dont know what theyll do) if shes not black. This can lead to setting yourself up, feeling “betrayed” and or getting jealous off anyone that doesnt necessarily look like you and i can assure you, you do not want to deal with that. This creates a HUGE insecurity issue within that shouldnt be present! know at the end of the day this is a game but i see stuff like this even with celebrities and 10/10 it ends up badly.
3) obviously i do not mind if shes black or another POC. I saw some ppl say they would like that trend of atreus have POC love interests and that would be nice but idrk whats gonna happen 😭 I do believe the giants will be very mixed as this was confirmed by sms and i wish so badly to see how theyd look!
#TLDR; topic of s1gyn is ??? Most likely will merge with angie. Fellow black girls i love you please do not think like this#guess this is the unfortunate reality of things right 🥲#Please be careful with your mindsets guys im serious!#not so sure if i wanna put this in the game/character tags?#Rant#My stuff#Other

Spider-Man Read-Through 92 Echoes (WSM 2-3, SSM 101-104)
MASTERPOST
What a stunning cover.
I've heard things about Web of Spider-Man, and considered skipping it. I'll read these issues, probably read up to issue 6 (which is part of Secret Wars II), then maybe I'll skim through them, we'll see.
In this post: Rope (1948), Grey's Anatomy and... Rocket Racer???
What's happening, now, is that the Vulturions are still after Spidey (see previous post), but Peter doesn't care, because it's May's birthday. He gets her a hat, but soon, his foes find him and mayhem ensues.
That's a nice scene! Not a terribly interesting issue, though. In the end, Fisk helps Spidey make his foes go away. Whatever. In the next issue, WSM #3, the Vulture is upset about this whole charade and escapes prison.
Elsewhere...
He looks so domestic, I love it. MJ's outfit is really nice too.
Their date is interrupted by the villains. For once, Peter directly asks MJ to call the ambulance. It's nice that he doesn't have to hide who he is to her.
Nice scene here too.
The next morning...
He looks miserable. I love it!
The present situation is quickly fixed.
That's a nice ending, but I think I'll just skim through these issues, yeah.
Yeah, I skipped over how many times Peter mentions that damn hat.
Now, onto Spectacular Spider-Man 101! Time for another backstory recap, kids <3
Spidey goes to a concert recommended by Lonesome Pincus (yay!), but ends up leaving after seeing a young couple fooling around.
Oh, Peter's horny. We certainly never saw Gwen in such a state.
It's almost her birthday, and he finds himself where she perished. The following night is not too happy either.
The next day, he saves a lady (one of the couple which was fooling around earlier) from the villain Backlash, after discouraging her boyfriend to try and be a hero.
I liked that ending, at least.
*sigh*
SSM 102 now!
Killer Shrike's looking for a job (aren't we all!) but MORE IMPORTANTLY PETER LOOKS SNAZZY AS HELL!!!
LOOK AT MY BOY. GORGEOUS.
I completely get it, Peter. Sometimes it's fun to casually let someone know you did something. Our two folks strike up a nice conversation and I was genuinely sad to see Donna get hit by a car a page later. Peter catches the one responsible (a random drunk guy), then visits her at the hospital.
In a surprisingly compelling story, Peter looks for Donna's depressed twin brother who could give her a kidney.
And Donnie's apartment is close to Killer Shrike's, who panics when Spidey appears. And while the two enemies fight...
Oh, Donnie...
In the end, Spidey arrives just in time and everything's alright.
Hm-hm. What a good issue!
By the way, this issue was penciled by Larry Lieber, Stan Lee's younger brother! Remember, he already penciled an Annual years before. How nice.
Time for issue #103!
I don't mind the heaviness, but what a cover!
So the story starts at the hospital, with a guy telling DeWolff, Spidey and us what happened. Picture three bored guys who decide to have fun to prove how brilliant they are.
Enter: a bat.
Hahahaha I did wonder.
*grins*
They quickly noticed a link between Spidey and Peter...
So they create the Blazer. Sure.
Oh, Peter, you little rapscallion.
It's a warning letter from "The Blaze", which suddenly bursts into fire in Peter's hands. How ironic.
The students get bolder, until...
Well, that right panel is interesting... Also love the shadows on the other panels. You know, I'm not fond of filler issues, but these ones take decisions that are quite nice. I wish we had more of a common storyline, but as single issues they're surprisingly solid.
Anyway, everyone is on edge...
Oof. The mannequin soon bursts into flames.
It's really silly, I like it.
The issue is that one of students is burned. Also, their antics inspired an ersatz. I suspect it's the third student, the DnD nerd, who left the group, pretending this was too unreasonable.
The two other students are, just like Spidey, invited to... "Spidey fries". PffFFfft.
It's not the nerd, because he also received that note. Hmm!
In the final confrontation, the nerd tries to protect Spidey...
Oh no.
And then Blaze fled.
EXCEPT.
What.
Turns out the nerd is a friend of Peter's and told him about everything. He then spoke to the Torch and Spidey, and after some convincing, Spidey agreed to their plan.
The convincing in question.
At least it taught them a lesson. Right?
...Right?
I loved that issue.
Now, what could we possibly get for the last--
Rocket Racer?????
He appeared in ASM 172 & 183. Quite a few years back!
I can't post pictures anymore, but Spidey is very confused when he sees the Bounty Hunter pursuing Rocket Racer. Turns out his family tried to pay for his bail, and things happened. In the end, it's a team-up between RR and Spidey against the Bounty Hunter and I quite liked it!

DONT listen to redditors when they tell you a good jumping off point to get into spiderman comics is Superior!! they are lying to you!! not even as a dig at superior spiderman, as much as i love making fun of it it's a good comic run
but I can't imagine recommending the one where Peter gets freaky friday-ed into a dying doc ock's shriveled body and then proceeds to die in said shriveled body as Doc Ock fucks around in Spiderman's body. and you have to read dying wish which is honestly a pretty dense 5 issue run leading up to Superior Spider-Man on its own, filled with characters that you won't have encountered unless you've been reading asm up to that point (be honest how many of you have even heard of horizon labs.) But then the first like 5ish issues of ssm Doc Ock just tries to get with MJ and also it is HEAVILY SUGGESTED to that doc ock has feelings for May. In Peter's Body. And the whole time Peter is just stuck as a ghost watching doc ock SORT OF FLIRT WITH HIS AUNT IN HIS BODY ? and I'll stop here. but in no world would I suggest maybe one of the most absurd spiderman comics (sure it's no sins of the past but come on) to someone who has only seen the movies or the cartoons, and wants to get into the comics. I get that it's like a fan favorite but come on!!
anyway here's what id recommend people read if they want to Spiderman:
Obviously ASM is the main title and if youre really committed to being in the know on spiderman, it's definitely The place to go. But also it has 900+ issues and it can hard to find a good starting place.
I don't hate the 2022 run as much as some people do (totally reasonably btw there's some choices I'm not crazy for eithsr), and since it's the ongoing run there's not as much you'd have to read to be caught up. A lot of it is little 3-4 issue self contained stories! There's only fifty-threeee (?) issues out rn so plenty to read but not as daunting as the almost One Thousand Issues that lay before you and a near 60+ year run. I also hear the 2012 run is pretty good but I've only read a few issues here and there of that one so I cannot speak to it myself lol
Another series that's not too long but still has plenty there: Deadpool/Spider-Man! has two fan favorites and absolutely plenty of wacky comic antics. The first big plotline isn't the best but the character moments more than make up for it. Only 50 issues so not too bad! Plus, the run is over so you won't be trying to catch up (im hoping they revive it <-self delusion)
Avenging Spider-Man is another good jumping off point imo! It's a team-up series that will point you to ongoing plotlines without dragging you into them, so if one happens to strike your fancy you can go find those comics to read that storyline. It's fun, heartfelt, and self contained (for the most part). Can you tell I like team up stories yet.
For individual issues you can read completely standalone:
Deadpool annual #2 (2013)
Avenging Spider-Man #4
Amazing Spider-Man #248
Daredevil #8 & #9 (2016) (two issues ik im cheating, trust me though)
And if you're just looking to get into comics in general, here's a couple stand alone miniseries that I really like (all 10 issues or less!)
Gwenpool Strikes Back (spiderman is in this one!)
Hawkeye: Freefall (spideys here too!!)
Defenders 2017 (he's not here though... as far as I can remember)
(also you can find all of these online! (for free ;)) at readcomicsonline.li but for the love of god don't use that site if you don't have an ad blocker)
#spiderman#comic recommendations#People hate dp/sm and for good reason the choice to assign moral value to physical appearance in the first plotline is. well.#it's a choice!!#but it's still definitely worth reading if you like Deadpool and or Spiderman!#and I think it gets really good once it moves past the first storyline#also they have a daughter together#these are things that happen#people also hate the 2022 run of asm and again I 100% get WHY#it's the run that killed Ms marvel. in a really cheap and bad way for shock value#but it's okay she gets better. comics man#and Peter is really moody a lot of the time so like I GET it I get why people don't like current Spidey run#but I do! so ya know#:V#marvel#marvel comics

Check out this little doodle :p im still brainstorming on the whole story but this past week ive been FILLED TO THE BRIM WITH IDEAS IN MY HEAD!!!
Dragons are so hard to draw, doodling them is just as hard, so i covered over it :p I’ll probably try again later today.
Dragons are so fucking cool when you look at how different cultures used to describe and talk about them.
The biggest difference in dragons is the one between western & eastern cultures. Western dragons are quite stocky, while eastern ones are quite flexible with their bodies. But then you have different types of cultures, some cultures have wyvern-types (ones where the two front arms are one with the wings) its very cool.
Anyway ive also just been watching alot of ‘what’s new scooby doo’ era movies (2003-sorta present?? They still use the style which is cool but the show concluded ages ago lol)
Also the afanc is such a cool beast but ive always hated how fucking small it’s usually described as, so i was like MAKE IT BIGGER YEAHHHH
Also take a look at these silly robots Fiona and SSM!

Idea for a story.
When SSM Peter learns that peni parker is friends with her Norman Osborne, due to trauma from his encounters with green goblin, he and the rest of the spider gang worry for her safety.
If you want to expand on this idea that is your choice. I will understand if you don't.
Hiya, this is just to let ya know that I've seen your ask and am currently working on the request right now! When it's done, I'll post it to @goldenphalloides, though keep in mind it'll be a short one-shot!

This pair of pics was intended to reveal the design of Hobgoblin I came up with for the Spectacular Spider-Man animated series, just to give everyone a little preview of a series of Spectacular Spider-Man fanfics I wanted to write. Because I had so many stories in this series to write, there was simply no way I could POSSIBLY do it on my own. So I took it upon myself to draw some pics of some of the broader concepts I have in mind, in the hopes that it might draw interest from other fanfic writers to help me. Hobgoblin was definitely one of the first pics I wanted to get out there, because I plan for him to play a BIG role in these stories. Those who are well-versed in their comic book history will undoubtedly recognize the first image as being inspired by 1983's "Amazing Spider-Man", issue #238, “In the Shadow of Evil’s Past”, which marked the Hobgoblin's first appearance. Granted, on that cover, the Hobgoblin is seen destroying Spider-Man's costume, but replacing it with the Green Goblin costume, to me, was far more significant in its symbolism. After all, let's be honest, folks. We ALL know that Roderick Kingsley is the ONLY Goblin that matters.^_^ I have to admit, though, that is the most dubious I'd ever been on any art project I've worked on to date. While I refused to be deterred and continued to press onward, even as I moved from the pencil work to the hard lines, the whole thing just looked like a jumbled mess and I really couldn't tell which way was up, just by looking at it. It wasn't until I started adding the color in that everything started to finally come together. Still, while I was reasonably pleased with the outcome, the final product still seemed overly cartoonish, even by SSM design standards. The second image was definitely better, as I sat down and started putting a proper design together. The head turned out to be the easiest part. Just like with the comics, I simply took the original Green Goblin face, gave it less exaggerated features, demonic red eyes and voila. It was maybe two minutes of work and I was just like, "There. That's it. THAT'S my Hobgoblin". But THEN, I had to start designing the actual COSTUME and THAT'S when I ran into problems. Most of the issues stemmed from the fact that I was getting too focused on "classic" Hobgoblin and those elements I wanted to have from the comics. I even wanted the curled-up, pointy shoes. But as I went back and looked over the SSM Green Goblin design, I realized just how many things were radically different. For one thing, he wasn't wearing the pointy elf hat, but more like a flight cap without the goggles. And he didn't have a tunic over his chest, either, it looked more like chest armor. And then, there was the jack-o-lantern belt buckle and the loincloth and the big, honkin' space booties. And I was just like, "Uuuh-hhhh...how do I make THIS work?". Because I couldn't get tunnel-visioned on the classic stuff and end up doing a total tear-down of the design. One of the aspects of Hobgoblin was that both he and Green Goblin shared the same basic design elements in their costumes. So how was I going to maintain the spirit of the new SSM design and still input the things I wanted? That was when I realized I had to take a step back and look at the whole concept objectively. And when I was at work that night, I started thinking about Roderick Kingsley's mindset in the comics when he started knocking around the idea of becoming the Hobgoblin. While he liked the whole Goblin concept in general, which is why he kept the basic elements intact, the one thing he knew he DIDN'T want to be was another GREEN Goblin. Because as far as Kingsley was concerned, Norman Osborn was a clown and he LOOKED like one. And Kingsley decided right out of the gate that if he was gonna DO this thing, he didn't want to look like a clown. He wanted to look like a BADASS. So that's what got me thinking, how do I take all the elements that made the Green Goblin look GOOFY and turn them around to make the Hobgoblin look DANGEROUS? And that was when all these ideas started flooding into my head, which I just HAD to get on paper the next morning. I took the jack-o-lantern belt buckle and turned it into a skull, ripped up the loincloth and the cape, threw in some chains and leather straps and even added spikes on the boots...which, if you notice, actually allowed me to give Hobgoblin the curly boots I wanted without ACTUALLY making them. And as for the glider, I went and added horns. Basically, the whole idea was to make him look like some demon who had just escaped from Hell, and despite the cartoonish look of the SSM character designs, I think I pulled it off quite nicely. All-in-all, I'm quite happy with this pic and even if the stories never get written, I hope everyone else at least likes the image. ^_^

Sorry About The Spider-Man Acronyms: A Guide for the anon @hawkogurl got, or anyone else who needs it. This is only a small selection of Spidey media, but it's the ones that are commonly referred to in shorthand like this.

Other random acronyms you'll see:
SM PS4/MSM, MSM2: the Marvel's Spider-Man games from Insomniac.
OMD: One More Day, the name for the 2007 story arc which broke up Peter & MJ's marriage, among other changes.
BND: Brand New Day, the comic arc immediately after OMD. OMD/BND are really two halves of the same whole, so you'll see people use them interchangeably.
KLH: The Kraven's Last Hunt storyline.
TCW: The Child Within storyline.
JMD: J. M. DeMatteis, a comic writer who did both Kraven's Last Hunt and The Child Within.
I hope this helps and, uh, good luck.
#way back when I made like a parody version of this for ''how to tell your spider-men apart by adjective''#that ended with ''Superior: now you're gonna hate me but this one is doc ock''#I know I'm going to be kicking myself for forgetting one later but there you go
