It’s that special time of year, folks–time for our annual TAU ficathon! But, what’s this… we’re turning 10 this year? That’s a milestone if I’ve ever heard one!

To celebrate, we’re going to offer a couple extras this year… we’ve got contests, raffles, and prizes! Here’s a quick peek at what’s going down this eventful birthday of ours:

This time, you can submit your ficathon fic into a contest for some fun prizes!

The winner will receive:

An Alcor charm (free including shipping)

Their fic featured in the “Introduction to TAU” page soon to be unveiled

Art for their fic, drawn by TAU creator Zillychu

Bragging rights! 

Unlike the usual ficathon though, there is a theme all contestants will need to follow. 

☆☆☆ The theme for this contest is: Introduction to TAU! ☆☆☆

This means your fic can be read by anyone who has no prior knowledge of TAU, or even Gravity Falls! It also means you need to give the reader a taste of what TAU is all about – this includes:

Something that explains the Transcendence (or at least shows the reader that the supernatural is now commonplace – this can be achieved anywhere from a single sentence, to a major plot point)

Alcor’s general predicament of being a human-turned-immortal-demon (could be in conversation, or in the general narrative. Does not need to go into detail on the events that lead up to this, but it can!)

At least one familiar or common theme abundant in this AU, which includes but isn’t limited to: 

Family (however it’s defined), friendship, and platonic love

Finding joy amidst grief, hope despite loss

Demonology and eldritch terrors

Supernatural politics and how they fit into the mundane

The existential horror of being a human turned semi-omnipotent immortal demon who must fight the demonic desire for chaos vs. the human desire to pack bond with everything!

A wonderful example of this includes Mod K’s series Bentley & Friends! The story plants you in the center of the TAU world through the eyes of a character named Bentley, and slowly unveils the setting through his perspective. Bentley himself is familiar with a post-Transcendence world and Alcor’s reputation, but only comes to learn the truth about him and Mizar through ensuing shenanigans. 

Another example would be MaryPSue’s Return, Rewind, Rewrite, which starts with an emotional demon summoning, and follows characters who find they're more closely linked to the Transcendence than they expected. Remember: Showcasing the story of TAU through narratives and character interactions is always better than simply giving the reader a summary! 

Please note that there is no word minimum. Longer fics will generally leave a better impression on the mods, but quality will always trump quantity.

The Dis(m)ember Participant role is now available in the Discord's Roles & Channel list! You will be pinged when there's a new prompt to write about. 

You may write about any of rosesrot's games and/or stories! These will all count as a part of Dis(m)ember.

RULES

Since this is a casual event, there aren't any official rules: only your creativity! The only true "rule" is that your story must relate to the prompt in some way, shape, or form.

You are free to write sexually explicit NSFW content, but please keep in mind that this won’t be acknowledged as part of Dis(m)ember in an official capacity!

In honor of the Tiny Boats raffle, the @ofmd-buys-boats team had an Interview with our dear Set Dresser, Lindsey Cantrell! You can read the full thing on their substack-- here's a sneak preview!

They were kind enough to let me share the info here as well!

"Amy: What was your favourite set to dress? Linds: What a hard question. The favorite that first comes to mind is John Bartholomew's Captain's Quarters. The scene where Zheng Yi Sao leads a raid on Bartholomew's ship, and then convinces him to join her crew. The day we were going to shoot this scene was pulled up in the schedule, so during a few lunches and a few private rehearsals, I was brought over to the unfinished set to get my opinion on the status of its dress. What to add, where to move items, take away, etc. And it needed to get done quickly. We were pulling dressing from all over. Production Designer Ra and Art Director Troy really wanted it to be layered. They were discussing someone who'd lived in that space for ages. Our Set Dec team left the bones of it in a good place, but on the day we went to shoot it, we still scrambled a bit throwing items together for more chaos (some good ideas, some bad- ie: a stool ended up on top of a dresser?) I still love the way the lighting was shot through those windows and how it all came together. Plus, didn't that charcuterie look delicious?"

"Amy: Speaking of the tiny boats, we’d be remiss if we didn’t ask about them too - how did you make them and how long did it take you? I can testify from making repairs to our broken ones that they’re fiddly little things! Linds: Yes they are! The strain on my eyes that week! The bases of these tiny ships are custom lead molds created in the Propmakers Workshop. Next, painted and aged brown. Then, one by one I stabilized them and carefully drilled one tiny hole in the semi-center of each ship's base. Hoping each time that I didn't push too hard or for too long, potentially breaking through to the bottom. So I held my breath and got through all of that step. Off to the side, I had the makings for the tiny flags. I painted and aged what felt like a million toothpicks to start. Trimming off the bottoms of one end so they would sit flat inside my pre-drilled hole. I cut the different pieces of construction paper in a tiny triangle with one flat end, and put a line of glue on that side to place underneath a toothpick and rolled it over to hold. Some bits of my fingertips are definitely attached to the glue inside those tricky little flags. When my deadline was getting closer, I started to just begin placing the dried flags inside the bases the next day. Until I found some of them falling over by the time I came back from lunch. So then I realized I needed to add one tiny drop of super glue into the hole first. The final precise measure was making sure when I held the flag down to attach, that I was holding it straight up & down. Sounds easy enough, but if you're only looking at one side, you may be pushing the flag down and away. So if you check your other angles afterward, you'd notice it's leaning to that opposite side, as if the tiny ship is in a storm, someone told me. [...]"

I really am so sorry I'm so behind lovelies. I hope you all had a wonderful and restful holiday season. I'm going to share a few extra love notes tonight because I've seen some really lovely stuff the last many many days -- and I have so much to say and haven't had a way to do so.

The first I wanted to share is from TheLatestKate with the message I most want to send to all of you. This year has been a hell of a time, and you have no idea how very grateful I am that you were here to share it with me and so many others, and still are.

Life can be so damn hard and sometimes it feels like you just aren't making any progress... or your impact isn't as big as you want it to be.

I wanted to remind you though that the earth spins at 1000 miles per hour (1,600 km/hr), that's 24,000 miles per day (38625 km/day)... but sitting on it, it doesn't seem to be moving at all. Now look at it from space, and you can see it rotating, you can see the light of the sun reflecting off of it. You can see all the lights on the dark side, and the clouds, and the winds, and vastness of the oceans. That's what I see in you. That's what others see in you. We can see all the wonderful things you are, and how brightly you shine because we aren't living it second to second like you are. So please believe me when I say this-- you are capable of anything, and you are doing SO DAMN WELL despite this crazy life.

Very excited to start reading the Raffles and Bunny stories via @lettersfrombunny! I have zero background beyond being told it was slashy, and from the first section of the first story, can definitely confirm. (And so dramatic!!)

I had already gotten the (correct) impression that Bunny is extremely smitten with Raffles ("I see his indolent, athletic figure; his pale, sharp, clean-shaven features; his curly black hair; his strong, unscrupulous mouth." But who's looking?) but consider me extremely intrigued by how Raffles treats Bunny.

Raffles is so familiar and dismissive in how he refers to Bunny - starting with calling him Bunny, for one. And he's a "a literary little cuss", "a plucky little devil". "You were the right sort of little beggar then, Bunny; you didn’t talk and you didn’t flinch." Whew!

I'm so curious to see how things develop - if Raffles just keeps leading Bunny around by the nose, I will eat that up with a spoon just like Bunny himself, but I will also be happy to read some affection there. Despite their hierarchical relationship at school, Raffles answered Bunny's "Is there any chance you remember me from school (I was in love with you)" with fond commentary about what he was like and what they did. Just how much is actual fondness vs being happy to take advantage of Bunny's submissiveness agreeableness remains to be seen. I'll be happy either way!

pros/cons of celestial seas from someone who joined ~2 months ago:

Pros:

- Unique traits, there’s a lot of material to get inspiration from, and the aspect system is interesting

- gorgeous site, art is nice and site has a lot of info

- prompts that encourage story building

- weekly prompts, seasonal events, and permanent quest prompts to unlock transformations and certain traits

- lots of lore and info to read through

- progression is satisfying, trading economy is pretty good

- the species has a patreon with really good monthly rewards to patrons

- updates are frequent, lots of communication and even more if youre on the patreon

- lots of prompt raffles where you can get tickets by participating in the species, tons of rewards in them so theres a good chance of winning something at least once

Cons:

- everything is so slow!!! design approvals take months to even be seen let alone if you have a mistake that needs correcting, every single item trade is manually approved and they will deny it if they deem it “suspicious” (like if youre trading a lot of items at once). trades can take up to weeks to be approved. prompts are a toss up on how long youll have to wait.

- closed trading economy. c-s items/currency arent allowed to be traded for anything not c-s related, which is why every trade is manually approved. even art trades in exchange for items, you have to draw a celestial seas character or else the trade is illegal

- insanely expensive adopts. the most recent ones had SBs of $500, there were also a ton of event auctions released for the fall season that had SBs of $250, and the final selling price of them went as high as >$5000 (maybe even more, i didnt look)

- very very tedious grinding system. prompts reward 5 currency base payout, with background complexity, additional characters, and apparel/companion bonuses adding to the payout. typically, i personally get around 10-20 currency per submission. for reference, a rare trait potion is 100 currency, and a browbird MYO is 400 currency. be prepared for carpal tunnel

- most of the characters within the species are very complex, drawing gift art while working toward your first myo will get exhausting because you have to choose between drawing the most detailed characters ever, or drawing the same 3 simple characters over over

- strange rules, you should read all the terms really carefully because some parts have sections like: “Owning a Celestial Seas character means that you hold partial rights to that specific character design. You do not hold ownership over the associated species and you do not hold full rights over the character design, even if you designed it.” its really easy to glance over things like this because of how incredibly long the rules are

overall, i like the species, but there are certain issues that are way bigger than they should be in a species like this. the approval times and closed economy are my biggest gripes personally, but if youre willing to look past that have fun.

Happy 10th Birthday to Kingdom Hearts X [chi] !

Ten years of cryptic mysteries, ten years of beautiful sprite work, ten years of fun with other players across the world and I’m so grateful to have been a part of it. The choice of the character’s gears lies in my desire for a keykid version of Sephiroth’s KH outfit and thus I picked Cloud to match.

Seven Stages of... Ego Death (Part 3)

This is the part of the story where I forget the order of things. My brain is trying to protect me from trauma, but I need to write thisss.

"Fuck!" I yelled as I got off the phone with Kamran. "What is happening?"

I needed to park my car. Like right now before I crash both physically and mentally. We arrived at the mall and I parked my car not caring how straight it was.

"Are you okay?" Ritchie said.

I took a deep breath, I felt myself sinking. It reminded me of that moment of Trainspotting where Renton OD'ed and he sunk into the red velvet.

I kept looking forward at the sunset, it was such a contrast between how this morning started out rainy and the evening ended with warm weather.

I don't know how long I stared, but the only words I could say was. "I'm fine."

I turned the car off, and grabbed my key. I had to figure out how to fix this, where can I go from here? I walked with Ritchie, towards the mall. I had to find Zumiez, somewhere indexed in between the tween ear piercing shops and beggars trying to pawn off something from their kiosks.

"I just need another job, then I'll figure everything else out."

I think Ritchie said something, but he wasn't in my tunnel of vision. I stepped into Zumiez, with some unknown Soundcloud rapper blaring overhead.

"Hey Welcome in!"

Luckily, it was the same manager I talked to during the first semester nearing winter break. He was wearing a black windbreaker, and held a hanger grabber for the t-shirts placed up high.

"Hey, I remember that you needed people to work a few months ago. I was wondering if you were still hiring." I smiled

"Unfortunately, I was looking for people during the holiday season. You can still put in an application, or try for another store." He said bouncing the grabber like a guard would do a pole staff protecting a gate.

"Okay, Thank You."

"Sorry." He shrugged.

I was finally at home surrounded by Home Depot boxes. I groaned trying to figure out how to pack everything. I literally took everything with me. So, I wouldn't have to drive to South Jersey every two seconds trying to pack my ACTUAL room when my Mom moves in the summer.

I packed two boxes, and called it a day on packing. I was mentally tired but had no choice BUT to keep making progress. I crashed on my bed and opened my Mac Book. I actually won my Mac Book at my high school prom raffle, I was cut out in the prom court picture after getting robbed from 1st place. My cousin handmade my backless prom dress with a tennis cut rhinestone trim draped on my back. The first place was a generic store bought dress, that held together the most popular girl in school. It honestly didn't matter, I won a fucking Mac Book. My luck is very strange, shit doesn't align for me unless there is chaos or me getting the short end of the stick.

I typed up 'Sales Associate Position Zumiez' I started to do the job application and submitted it for the same mall I went to. I also opened up my email, for the instructions for my exit as an RA. I rolled my eyes, then I scrolled a lil bit more in my inbox.

I clicked so fast, maybe... just maybe everything turned into shit so my luck can be right again.

I closed my laptop, I rolled over to my side and curled into a fetus position to force myself to sleep. I think that's it for today.

...It was Friday morning...

I do not remember if I ate, I do not know if I took a shower. I don't remember which side of the bed I woke up on.

What I do remember was telling everyone I knew on campus that I got kicked out. If I walked by someone I knew, I told them everything because right now I had nothing.

I didn't know what to do, where to go.

I texted my RD and told her I got kicked out. She told me there was nothing that she could do. I told my co-workers and Big Sis said nothing, and my other co-workers just said "That sucks." not really caring.

I don't remember how I ended up back in my dorm, that had things scattered about on the floor like a hurricane came through. But I was here, trying to come up with solutions. I had an idea, that might work.

I called my friend from back home, maybe for a weekend I could possibly stay with her until I got my head clear. I dialed her phone number hoping she would pick up. I've known Sadie since 1st grade, literally when MTV still showed music videos... (For a few hours at least) We still kept in touch with each other after all those years.

"Hello?" She said

I explained everything to her. The spark notes version of this blog is what I told her. I remember pacing in my room back and forth and explaining. I probably sounded unstable the whole time, but it just came out all at once.

"I'm sorry Vevi, it won't work out I had a friend stay with me before and it didn't work out."

"I literally just need a weekend."

She sighed "You don't have any other friends?"

"My one friend Richie has ten siblings, I can't stay with him. I literally have no one else."

I don't remember if Sadie outright said yes, or she danced around the idea of yes. But I remember feeling relieved for maybe an hour or two as I was packing. I remember thinking I was going to stay with her for the weekend at least. Because she said something along those lines.

My brother called me, again, I was hesitant to pick up but I did.

"You're just going to couch surf with me at my crib. You can't stay with your friend. Mom said you can't stay with her. I'll be on my way to pick you up, I should be there on Saturday."

Welp, there goes my Plan C. I slowly sat on the ground, laying my back against the bed. I looked off into the distance crying and sobbing, and I held my head into my hands.

"I don't want to go to Georgia." I cried on the floor.

I couldn't cry for too long because I knew I had to pack some more. I only had today and tomorrow to do it. To pack up all my shit and possibly not see it again.

That was a lot, hopefully everything was coherent. We're starting to get into the bulk of the chaos. I actually forgot how a lot of the stuff went, my brain does an excellent job of forgetting the things that really traumatized me.
