Belglaive | Chapter LIX

     The sky breaks open at noontide. It begins as a trickling, scattered droplets plummeting to the land below. The overflow from the roof drips into Ascartes. She can hear each plink as the water splatters against the tile floor. Although she cannot bring herself to open her eyes and see, she knows where it is going.

Thin streams surely travel the length of the walls and columns—pooling atop old wooden shelves and seeping into both the old and new fissures that split the stonework. Some may find themselves running across the old cabinets. Nestling within the nooks and crannies of each elaborate twist within the metal frames. Each one reflecting the coppery red of the rust beneath.

Unchanged, as nature often is.

The breeze whispering through the halls has blown a small netting of rain toward the center of the library. They cling to her upright figure, frigid and wet. Rivulets are dragged down the length of har halberd. Slipping in between the plating of her gauntlets. Cold for the short moment that they pass through.

They coalesce in a shallow pool at her feet. Cradled by the indents worn into it long before the past century even began.

Waiting.

2024 Year in Fic

I read so much great stuff this year. Found several new fandoms I'm insane for, wrote a ton (I will publish.... at some point!) and went through pages and pages of A03 search results looking for those few gems... and I found some. Here are some faves:

oh the pain of finding a new favorite author who's orphaned all their fics... luckily they titled all of them with taylor swift lyrics so you can pick them out from doing a ship search on A03 with orphan_account as author. they are all fabulous but these are my particular favorites. hijinks/misunderstandings, hot sexy scenes, beautiful character moments... they've got it all! I come back to these over and over again because they're just that good.

The news is consistently very scary and I hesitated to share this one, but to be perfectly honest nobody ever seems to care about cyclonic storms unless they're hitting white people.

We saw it with Puerto Rico and Maria, and we're going to see it again here, just as it's always been.

For those participating in Stormcoming, who aren't in the way of the storm yourself, this is the perfect time to take some action:

1. Share the news of the storm and, once they're available, any links to humanitarian aid efforts post-storm. Signal boosts are vital even if you can't directly contribute.

2. If you're a spiritual sort, say your prayers and do your protection and weather spells for the people in harm's way.

3. Remember that, for all that we have a silly side to hurricane culture here in Florida, cyclonic storms are scary and extremely dangerous and not to be taken lightly.

if there’s one thing Quentin knows about himself, it’s that he can’t trust his own impressions of people’s moods and emotions. Trying to interpret anyone, even someone he’s known a long time, is like reading a book with half the pages torn out. He can grasp some of it, but there are always huge, glaring gaps that he can’t hope to fill without outside assistance. Alice had been good at filling in those gaps. It was one of the things he loved most about her.

i've been in a fic hangover for days over this fic. i just want to read this fic again (i've already read it twice). why doesn't it have 10,000 kudos. do you like found family, and hot hot sex, and twentysomethings figuring it out in the big city, and admitting that sometimes dreams change but its okay because you aren't the same person that had those dreams and you can be kind to your past self while also making space for new dreams! well then. do i have a fic for you.
