Camminando per la città mi accorgo di conoscere già queste strade, le ho già viste, ora le vedo in primavera ma so già come saranno ad autunno o a Natale. Là ci hanno girato quel film, là quell’altro e laggiù quell’altro ancora. L’arco di Meg Ryan e Billy Cristal, la biblioteca di Ghostbuster, la sede della HBO, il quartiere di Friends, la Fifth Avenue, la tavola calda con lo chef ispanico che frigge nel burro anche sua madre, i taxi gialli, gli hot dog “fammelo con tutto” lungo strada e potrei continuare così all’infinito. Macchina costantemente al collo e testa piena di immagini e storie da raccontare... . Super Secret Public Convos

Todays Via via Val was brought to you by a peppy, positive driver named Emilio.

His most memorable Via moments include a couple riding together from few days back who “claimed” the middle row and refused to move to the back when another passenger was getting on. “Quack quack, no seat jack!” Emilio had to explain that this wasn’t their personal car service. Another goodie was the group of five passengers arguing about whether one woman was allowed to open the window or not. She threatened to puke on all of them if she didn’t get fresh air. Needless to say, she won window control.

My most favorite story from Emilio happened just this morning. A girl was on a call with her best girlfriend, sharing the way too juicy details of her steamy encounter with an Italian Stallion from the night before. As she gushed to her girl, she said “ DO NOT REPEAT A WORD OF THIS TO ANYONE. NO ONE CAN KNOW ANY OF THIS”. Emilio  sat in awkward and mostly shocked silence. He also pointed out that contrary to popular belief, Via Drivers/Taxi Drivers and other service industry people are not (most of the time) deaf and/or blind. A perfect stranger now knows the deepest detailed secrets of this NYC ladies life. 

There are lessons in awareness and empathy abound! Stay considerate out there, perfect strangers!
