Saracens 40-33 Cardiff: hosts knock out vastly improved Welsh visitors from Challenge Cup
Saracens 40-33 Cardiff: hosts knock out vastly improved Welsh visitors from Challenge Cup
Cardiff restored a measure of lost pride when they pushed Saracens to the finish in Sunday’s European Challenge Cup round of 16 tie at StoneX Stadium. The Welsh club had been hammered 49-14 by the Scarlets in his previous departure, a defeat that provoked severe and justified criticism. But Dai Young’s team was reading a different playbook against Sarries as they squared off on defense and had…

Note
Oo I can add my thoughts on going to see Sarries at StoneX seeing as we're back up now!
(I kind of just rambled about everything I remember from a couple years ago so hopefully this isn't too outdated!)
Sarries has standing and sitting, if you're stood you'll be behind a barrier at the edge of the pitch and you're really close to the pitch (I feel like other grounds also have this but I might be wrong). Before the match most people hang around the barriers because you get really close to the players when they're warming up.
I haven't been in COVID times so I am not sure how much things have changed. I believe we're in the process of building a stand so things are a bit weird. We definitely have reduced capacity so it's a bit weird getting tickets currently. It's a queue sort of system where you register interest and then they get in touch with you, being queued doesn't guarantee you a ticket though.
The East Stand has the most seating and I'd say it's probably a better view of the pitch because the West Stand is a bit lower. However if you want to be close to the action then the West Stand is a pretty good place to go. The ground pass will get you closest to the action though. (But if you sit in the middle of the west stand you'll be right near the benches so if that's what you want there is the place to go).
Wherever you sit you should have a pretty good view of the big screens because a rugby match is so where you're not going to be able to see 100% of what is going on just by watching the pitch. I've never sat in the South or North stand but it looks like a lot of fun (if a bit more cramped than the East). The East, North and South stands are covered whereas the West isn't (I think the very back is) but we're redeveloping that and from the photos it looks like it's going to be pretty similar to the East in the future.
If you go towards the end of the season to a Sarries match I would check the socials and so on to see what is going on because sometimes you'll go on the day where there's a signing session where they set up this little rope ring and the players will wander out and sign stuff, it's worth waiting around for that (I regret not staying a few years ago because it was chucking it down and my parents wanted to get home) and one day there might be a fireworks show.
Also to note about Sarries, you're allowed on the pitch after the game. (At least you were pre Covid). The TV people will set up on one side of the pitch and just have a little roped off area but everywhere else is fair game, people bring rugby balls along and kids just run up and down the pitch it's great fun.
Travelling to Sarries I've only ever done by car and that can be a bit fiddly. Like you get your tickets and then you register to get car parking passes and they might shove you in the carpark of a primary school or church or somewhere but you also might just park in the field near the stadium and then it's just a quick walk. (Wherever they park you it'll be a little walk)
There's a shuttle bus that runs from Edgware, Mill Hill East and Mill Hill Broadway stations so you can just yeet off the tube and use that to get to the stadium if you don't want to walk (the nearest station is a 24 minute walk, take the bus).
In general, get there early (I aim for roughly an hour and a half to an hour before kick off) and watch the players warm up, get some drinks and some food, make your way to your seat about 5 to 10 minutes before the game kicks off if you're in the East, North or South stands. If you're in the West stand be prepared for people standing in front of you until the game begins when they should move away. Enjoy the game. Feel free to wave to the bench players when they jog off to warm up, I got a lovely wave and a smile off of Ben Spencer a few years back. Then stick around after for potential signing sessions/fireworks/presentations like if a player is retiring they'll shove them on a mic (see Kelly Brown retiring a few years back) or to just get on the pitch and finish off your pint.
Also a note: If you are a travelling fan (i.e Saracens aren't the team you're there to support) check out your clubs website it is likely that they will have an option so that you can sit amongst fans from your club (I know Sarries did that for Bath where we had a section of the Rec that was just Sarries fans).
I got into rugby during Covid and haven’t properly been to a match and if it’s not too much trouble could you give me advice on how to buy tickets and transportation and stuff just to make my first rugby game more enjoyable? thank you!! <3
Hello ♡ Anon,
First of all you are really the sweetest so I will make my best to be complete and helpful as much as possible with this "micro guide" !
Answer under the cut ♡
I am assuming you are talking about a Leicester match because it's the only ones I attended to (even if was a decade ago) but if you want experiences from another stadium than welford road you might want to ask to @ledemidouverture for a sale sharks homegame or @harlequin87 for a Bath homegame and @lukadreaming for a Gloucester's one.
I don't know if you are coming from a foreign country like me but when you sign in and register yourself on the official website of Leicester Tigers to make firstly an account you may have some issues with your address I asked about it at [email protected]
They answered me : The website does recognise foreign addresses, but some supporters do use friends UK home addresses for tickets. We do offer print at home tickets which get sent to emails.
For the tickets now... Only the first games of the season 2021/2022 are available to public purchases right now ( until the Sale sharks one in October - see my pinned post for the fixtures)
Let's take a look at the ex.
You can choose your Seats like so on the website by prices with the cursor and you see the available zone than click to select a seat / or select the scale of price and pick your seat / don't forget to select the quantity
I usually pick the holland and barrett stand but it's personal choice!
Here are important guidelines and I also picked the ones about players
No bags are allowed is totally new rule but put some clothes with large pockets and you will be totally fine , tested and approved by a friend of mine.
Than just -> check out online and print your tickets or wait for it by mail | during match day scan at the entry / take your seat / enjoyyyyy!
To come to Leicester I use the eurotunnel shuttle and rental car
I don't know if you have more specific questions ? I hope it helped even a little ?
