Ultimately, I elected to ignore the question because I have a feeling that person would pick a fight with me even if I worded my answer in the most polite way possible.
Like unless there's some trans subtext I missed, Ophelia doesn't engage in gender fuckery like Shakespeare's crossdressing characters. If anything, Ophelia seems pretty gender conforming, especially for her time period.
I have nothing against trans Ophelia headcanons, mind you, but nobody likes headcanons being shoved into them as absolute fact. That is annoying at best.
So, I made an AMA post about my AU version of Ophelia from Hamlet on Reddit for fun.
And the first question I got is asking why I made her cis.
How am I supposed to respond to that question? Like I'd seen trans Ophelia headcanons on this site, but I don't know how common said headcanons are.
