The Garden of Moonlit Grief — Ch. XIV Preview
Preview:
A dull pain throbbed down her body in continuous waves. But then she forgot about the pain, because she noticed where she was.
In Travis’ arms.
Her face was pressed to his chest, against the flannel of his shirt. He hunched over her, still as a statue. She couldn’t see his face at all. His grip was like iron. He didn’t seem to have realized that she was trying to move.
“Trav?” She croaked, hoping that he wouldn’t notice the flush in her cheeks.
His arms tensed around her. They began to tighten — but then he paused, relaxed his grip. Leaned back slowly.
When she finally got a look at him, his expression was strange. Like he had locked all his emotions away, but they had left remnants. Like a ring of condensation where a glass used to be. Or something. She couldn’t tell what he was thinking, but she felt encouraged by his strange look.
It made her remember that he had tried to come for her. At the hospital, and the graveyard, and at that damned RV—
Her heart clenched.
“M’here.” He spoke softly, a rough edge to his voice.
