I recently bought a rg unicorn and the shoulders on the pre molded transparent joints were so tight that it snapped the shoulder. I have metal shoulder replacements coming from China. Do other real grades come with pre assembled joints that i need to wory about , or is that only a thing on the unicorn because of the transparent psycho frame ?

Basically every RG prior to the Unicorn has that preassembled inner frame. Some of the newer RGs technically retain some of that but they really REALLY moved away from that with the RG Nu Gundam in big ways. Modern RGs are more akin to mini Master Grades.

Epyon’s Whip, the Zeong’s hands and the God Gundams upper arms are the most recent examples of where they use it still.

With the older RGs always do some research before snagging them but there’s still some great older RG’s that have that inner frame (the mkii comes to mind). Just keep in mind that 1) with those frames it’s always important to grab them in the appropriate spots bc yes they can be incredibly tight (my red frame has a hip joint permanently stuck) and 2) those frames tend to age poorly. If you’ve ever heard the term Real Grade Syndrome it’s bc those early RG’s tend to get floppy as they age.

RG God Gundam done!!

literally i don’t even have to say how good it is cuz look at it. it’s perfect.

this was my first rg and my first kit harder than a hg so the build was both fun and frustrating, but only because i’m not used to anything so mechanically in depth.

but still the results speak for themselves and other than a few connections that feel a bit shaky, which may be my fault, this kit is rock solid and unbelievably articulated. at the moment it’s hard to get your hands on this in the west but it’s general retail so eventually it’ll be plentiful, i highly highly recommended picking it up.

RG GF13-01NJII God Gundam

Uh... I talked about the whole Burning Gundam thing when I did Blazing... I mentioned my hopes for future RGs when I did Hi-v... Did you see the expansion set for this set? It’s got an RG Fuunsaki. That’s cool.

The Good: Posability is insane, which was part of the intention with this kit. The God Gundam is piloted by a martial artist, after all. As a build, it has very good use of parts layering, and can replicate all of the God Gundam’s gimmicks: the arm grieves, the expanding shoulders and legs, the Core Fighter (which I forgot to take a picture of >_>, hold on...) and its expanding wings with added light effect parts, shoulder guns, an opening chest with the King of Heats emblem. For something so small, it does a lot.

The Bad: The expanding shoulders aren’t very solid, don’t lock, and are somewhat fragile so they should be handled with care. The knees are only connected at the bottom, so putting enough stress on them could snap them. The neck doesn’t actually attach to the body, but has a large friction peg that raises the head slightly when the Core Fighter is attached. The main problem is it prevents the chest from opening with the Core Fighter attached without a lot of finagling.

The Details: RG, so panel lining and use of the black label stickers. My liner pen actually died half-way through this build, so I switched to using a brush tip marker, which take a looong time to dry. It’s been, like, 2 weeks, and I’m still not sure it’s dry yet.

Overall, this is a fantastic kit and fun build. Its only real issue is its neck, but it’s not something with the possibility of breaking, and can be made to work with time. Gonna try picking up Fuunsaki, so if I can we’ll see this guy again in the future.

i was convinced by my very good friend izzy (god bless her, tumblr url tanukizzy) to just self indulge and make it based off the zeta - the name "choros" comes from the greek word for space. zeta is a letter in the greek alphabet, so this works regardless lmao

the wing proto zero binders were a bit difficult for me and her to figure out, but i think it makes sense, in some regard. it's the regular zeta waverider, really, at least that's how i've envisioned it. the wing just opens up for the sake of structure. the suit itself is kind of just a combo of UC and AC tech, mostly just a zeta and proto zero hybrid, but i might add a bit more here and there. but i think she'd keep things simple

irida herself focuses more on mobility and being able to fight at middle to long ranges, but that doesn't mean she's useless up close - she can still fight at close range, especially with the added mobility in both MS and MA modes

(also, in this timeline, the RG zeta gundam doesnt suck ass. a true miracle)

i'm putting this under a readme as it's basically just a niche idea i had relating to my "dawn/irida gundam build fighters" idea that has been infecting my brain

i made her MS...... sazabi just made *sense* for some reason. i don't really know why, but it just kinda entered my brain and i was like. well fuck okay.

it's not perfect, but the main idea is just a close range, more offensive sazabi, as her fighting style in general is moreso just strong offense, though the defensive portions are still there. (that's how i've kind of imagined her in the like. regular storyworld too, where her teams are built around offense though they don't TOTALLY skimp out on defense, but her main focus is there)

still gonna take some time to flesh it out of course, but it's fun to have it realized. still gotta come up with something for irida... i'm thinking qubeley, but i'm kinda on the fence about that

So I'm just gonna gush about RG kits because they are some of my favorites!

I would say starting out with the RG God Gundam (the one breakdancing in my pinned post) is probably a good intro to the newer RG kits. The kit isn't too huge but it still has good intricacy, color separation, and the best articulation of any kit that I have.

Other RG recs if you don't wanna go for that one are:

RG Nu and Hi-Nu, and Sazabi are all wonderful builds and just feats of engineering

If you see another RG designs that you like the only thing that I would caution is to generally avoid kits earlier than the Tallgeese (number 37 I think?) because they all tend to have an inner frame that can get floppy. This happened to me with the RG destiny and wing zero ew. Probably wait till you have some more build experience and know what you are getting into with those kits as they are quite fiddly.
