time for a very long Swap MH ramble about A Bunch Of Numbers™
I've been asked before about what Neptune's exact HP is, as in the past I've only vaguely referred to it as 'higher than UT Sans' but not caught up with his other increased stats', but since HP isn't listed in monsters' check descriptions and generally varies wildly I had no idea how to work it out.
anyway a couple days ago I spent the evening going through the UT wiki, writing down every fightable monster's stats and trying to work out some logic for it, so I finally have an answer to that! along with the other main characters too for good measure.
firstly here’s my notes from trying to figure this out, for a point of reference:
most average monsters tend to have HP in double figures; weaker monsters' HP will often be in lower double figures, but can be as little as single digits (i.e. Sans, Glad Dummy, and Temmie).
monsters with HP in triple digits include several mini-bosses, a couple of actual bosses and most of the CORE monsters and amalgamates, but there are a few earlier-game monsters with HP in the lower hundreds too (i.e. Gyftrot, Glyde, and Monster Kid for some reason??).
the only monsters with HP in the thousands are all bosses, aside from two Hotland mini-bosses.
focusing on known Royal Guard members (and not including Undyne, who has 1500 HP), their HP ranges from 60 (Lesser Dog) to 150 (RG 01 & 02). based on that I now headcanon that one requirement of becoming a Royal Guard is having a maximum HP of 50+, which seems reasonable for decently strong monsters to be able to sign up or work towards.
as for ATK and DEF stats, I’m sticking with basing them on the stats listed in check descriptions rather than actual data stats, otherwise almost every character would have single-digit attack and some would have negative defence, which only confuses me more :’D
on with the Swap MH characters’ stats, in order of when they’d appear in-”game”:
Chara - LV 1 / 20 HP / ATK 10 DEF 10
Frisk - LV 1 / 20 HP / ATK 10 DEF 10
Temmie - LV 1 / 2500 HP / ATK 7 DEF 5
Happstablook - 91 HP / ATK 12 DEF 12
Asgore - 530 HP / ATK 80 DEF 80
Papyrus - 650 HP / ATK 15 DEF 15
Sans - 10 HP / ATK 17 DEF 17
Asriel - 180 HP / ATK 16 DEF 16
Alphys - 995 HP / ATK 45 DEF 25
Undyne - 1150 HP / ATK 30 DEF 20
Undyne the Undying - 20050 HP / ATK 99 DEF 79
Napstabox - 9999 HP / ATK 25 DEF 255
Napstabot TRU - 1800 HP / ATK 45 DEF 45
Napstabot [unnamed NEO form] - 32000 HP / ATK 70 DEF 70
Toriel - LV 3 / 4000 HP / ATK 80 DEF 80
Monster Kid - 110 HP / ATK 4 DEF 4
Monster Kid [unnamed Hyperdeath form] - 9999 HP / ATK ∞ DEF ∞
some explanations for a couple of these:
Dandelion (Asgore)'s HP is higher than UT Toriel's, but drastically lower than UT Asgore's 3500. I figure UT Asgore's HP could’ve increased with LV anyway, but as an early-game boss it just wouldn't work for his HP to be absurdly high.
I was very surprised to find out regular UT Flowey has 6000 HP? which is apparently separate from Photoshop Flowey’s 9950 HP?? maybe determination and not really being a monster anymore could be responsible for that. anyway it sounded excessive for Swap MH Temmie given that the vessel is a plushie rather than a technically-already-living flower and UT Temmie’s HP is only 5, and if it turns out that info about Flowey was wrong I’m more than happy to reduce it further, tbh.
Happstablook's stats are all a little higher than UT Napstablook's because while neither are fighters, Napstablook is much less fond of conflict while Happstablook can appreciate the drama of a fight. Napstabot's stats are lower than UT Mettaton's for the same reason, though their HP is higher as Sci-Fi (Undyne) built them to be sturdy.
Noodle (Papyrus)'s stats are only a little lower than UT Papyrus' due to his lack of training, so his HP remains above average but not super wild either.
10 HP seemed right for Neptune as a middleground between formerly having UT Sans’ 1 HP and having somewhat raised his stats, but for a bit of perspective, in the original game Whimsun also has 10 HP and Vulkin has 20. so he’s still very much on the weaker side in that regard, and his low HP is the reason he can’t join the Royal Guard.
Axe (Alphys)’ HP is a total shot in the dark as UT Alphys has no given stats whatsoever, so I just figured her training as Captain of the Royal Guard made her that strong. it’s worth noting all but her defence are lower than UT Undyne’s, though.
there’s no canon info in how LV works in monsters, so Orchid (Toriel)’s LV and stat increases are just guesswork based on UT Frisk’s stat increases. I decided at LV 1, after her adoptive children’s deaths and before accidentally killing the first human, her stats had dropped to 440 HP / ATK 60 DEF 76, then at LV 2 she rose to 2220 HP / ATK 70 DEF 78. in the original game’s geno run Frisk is at LV 3 when facing Toriel, so I thought it’d be fitting to reverse that and have Orchid at the same LV as a result of being more emotionally affected by killing the 6 humans than UT Frisk was by emptying the Ruins.
this was kind of a weirdly specific thing to go into so much detail on but I’m just happy to have an answer for all this at last ᕕ(ᐛ)ᕗ
#holoskart rambles#underswap mh rambles#I could do some background characters' HP stats at some point but this post is already long enough so I'll stick with the main cast for now#anyway for those who were interested I hope the answer is satisfactory 👍#also calling napstabot's neo form unnamed is kind of a lie. I do have a name in mind I'm just not 100% on it yet bc it's a bit long oTL#still no clue what to call MK's hyperdeath form though#long post //#charity (swap mh chara)#fate (swap mh frisk)#tem-k (swap mh temmie)#glamour (swap mh mettaton)#dandelion (swap mh asgore)#noodle (swap mh papyrus)#neptune (swap mh sans)#sage (swap mh asriel)#axe (swap mh alphys)#sci-fi (swap mh undyne)#nsb (swap mh napstablook)#orchid (swap mh toriel)#wish (swap mh monster kid)
