if you've ever had it, how do you deal with having the urge/wish to write, but having exactly zero ideas of what to write *about*?

the short answer is: not always as effectively as I’d like! :P Sometimes I write because I have an idea that’s taking up space in my brain, and it won’t go away until I get it out! Slightly longer answer: When I’m already within a piece, i.e. I know the premise, I don’t always know where I’m going with it, and in these instances, I’ll sorta just write whatever pops into my head, even if it’s not super coherent, and then edit it a ton later! Some of the fics I’m most proud of--including one of my most recent pieces, Essences, (which I wrote for @pearldefiance as a part of the @fandomtrumpshate charity auction) started out this way!  I had a very rough premise, obviously, that came from @pearldefiance. And in my head, I even had a few lines of dialogue beyond that that I knew I wanted to write, but other than that: nadda. I sorta just kept playing around with what would naturally follow that dialogue, and what it would require to get both Yellow Pearl and our Pearl to a point to be able to have that conversation. And as I was writing, I would get other ideas too, other directions the story could go. Eventually all those pieces came together to create something fleshed out.  And then, with a decent amount of editing to make it all gel, it was pretty coherent! (The original dialogue that I’d written made its way into the fic too, smack in the middle, but it wasn’t the climax or anything! Though I’d argue that it did lead to what turned out to be the climax!)

When I have an urge to write and no idea what to write about at all, this is when I turn to prompts. I know it sounds sorta like high school English class advice, but in my experience, the best way to get yourself to write is just to write. There’s not really a trick around it. So if I don’t have any inspired ideas, I turn to others. Sometimes I just go looking for prompts. Other times I ask for prompts. This was partially why I did the Double Drabble Prompt Fest, in celebration of 200 works on ao3! (I know I still owe two people some ficlets for that! I’m working on ‘em! I haven’t forgotten! And I do have some openings as well, in case anyone else is interested! I just can’t promise response time! :P )

how substantial would the references have to be to commission art of an OC because I do certainly want art of some of mine but the most I have for references are text descriptions and how I picture them in my mind

Hmmm I’d could could do maybe a dress up game version of how you imagine them plus any details that’d help! My friend makes sims of the ocs she commissions me to draw, you don’t have to though!

if lego brought bionicle back would you want it to be a continuation from 2010 or a hard reboot

oh that's a tough one

if I had to pick out of the two I'd want an almost-complete reboot that would incorporate some the original plan for the followup to the Mask Of Light book/movie plot, where instead of being a prequel it would cover the actual trek back to Metru Nui/whatever the original location was supposed to be

The concept art floating around for the original Metru Nui(?) looked Sick and I'm bummed we missed out on it

I honestly wouldn't want a continuation from where they left the OG line but that's just bc the Spherus Magna/Agori/etc plotlines didn't personally appeal to me all that much, and it seemed like they were running into the issue the Star Wars EU had where there were a hundred side plots and 400 writers

Oh Goodness!!! 1. i’m kind! i always try to be nice to people and be patient with them

2. my art skills! yeah i’m always insecure about it and feeling like everyone else is better than me but if i take a step back and look at it i can make some pretty cool stuff with just an empty canvas and a brush

3. my ability to learn new things! if i’m genuinely interested in the subject and doing it out of my own volition i can generally learn new things very easily (unfortunately this only works when those conditions apply so if i had to take, say, a business class even though i don’t care about that in the slightest, that would not go very well *coughs*)

4. kinda related to the last one: i have knowledge about a lot of different things! like a “jack of all trades, master of none” thing which has its downsides but also its upsides! am reminded of this whenever i think about making a game and realize i already have experience with all parts of that (design, music, coding, writing if there’s a story)

5. bit of a weird one since i’m kinda running out of things here but... my improvement? as in i’ve been improving a lot in many aspects over the past few years, like talking to people, dealing with anxiety, my art... i still have a long way to go with all of that but i’m proud of the improvement
