I personally find the idea Love Breathing and Insect Breathing to be really cool. I have a hard time articulating my thoughts as to why, but I'll try my best.

So not only do I think it works well for Mitsuri and Shinobu's characters, but I love how personalized they are (like pretty much most of the breathing styles in the series) Shinobu created Insect Breathing to make up for her lack of physical strength. She made use of her knowledge in medicine for poisons. Mitsuri on the other hand, created Love Breathing because she couldn't master Flame Breathing (I assume it's because her constitution is too unique for it) so Love Breathing is better suited for reinforcing her strength.

Especially because the Demon Slaying corps is a field that I assume, is male dominated, I love the idea that these breathing styles serve to give more options for certain women, who have specific needs, that will highlight their specific strengths. I think that's what I love about them.

Also on surface level, they just really cool and fun??? Shinobu being weird about insects and Mitsuri being weird about cats. Imagine you're a demon getting bodied by poisonous creepy crawlies and magical kitty love glitter?? Based.

I was talking to my dad about how concerning the rising antisemitism is and told him I was recognised as visibly jewish a few times, so I asked him if he thought it was bad enough to start to get Very Worried. It's kind of wild how blatantly common it is for fantasy stories to stick so hard to pre-existing racist real world assumptions of good vs evil. Like I think in most fantasy stories the good guys are in the west/north and the bad guys are in the east/south. The most common exception being when the giant enemy is to the north and their whole aesthetic is Soviet/industrial and they're an autocracy. Like I literally don't even think it helps the story in any way to blatantly be just modeling your fantasy world evil guys that way but they do. I can't tell if it's overt or just lazy most of the time.

Also even when they aren't bad guys, the desert land or the land obviously visually inspired by a hodgepodge of east-asian design is always to the east still. Like, this is pretend, the guys in outfits that are obviously a fantasy take on kimonos don't have to be from the east, they don't have to be the ones to carry the katanas, and they don't have to act like stereotypical stoic samurai guys.

Just for context: Synagoges in Germany need police protection. So do schools with majority jewish students. My friend got beaten into a coma as a child because she has jewish ancestors and someone found out they celebrated jewish holidays. My former SiL has Romani family and was super paranoid about how people might percieve her. An aquaintance of mine is a syrian refugee and she rather sticks to other syrian mom's because when she is with me she feels intimidated by and afraid of new german people she might meet, because she got a lot of negative experience here. And the next thing: If you have an eastern european name or family, people will automatically think less of you.
