This post is wonderful and I really do believe that we should know the world we live in: the names and relationships of all these lives we could so easily not notice.
But neither a lawn nor a city is a wasteland. At least, it doesn't have to be. They will always be artificial human environments but that doesn't mean that nature can't be here too.
No part of this photo is unusual here. I could have taken a similar photo in a half dozen other places within a five minute walk, all of them surrounded by busy roads and apartment blocks.
There is grass growing here, unwatered, unfertilized and, as far as I can tell, without pesticides or herbicides. The city mows the central area but the perimeters are full of different kinds of grass going to seed.
What other plants would work here? It's a busy thoroughfare for people and (leashed) dogs. It needs to be open and able to hold up to a lot of impact, a lot of sunlight, droughts and floods.
You only have to look at the prairie to see that grass will thrive where most plants would die. It's soft and alive, it holds the soil in place, slows water, cools the yard, and gives us a place to play. It shelters other plants, like white clover and dandelions, which seem to suddenly appear from nowhere in spring.
The combination of trees and grass attracts magpies, currawongs, noisy miners, and blue-faced honeyeaters. Plovers and curlews nest on the grass. Lorikeets swarm to the trees when they flower. Ibises and crows peck through the rubbish, plentiful and clever and fat. Bush turkeys drag our mulch half way down the street, too persistent to be scared away. Kookaburras live in the gums above the school oval, so that even in the city, across a busy road and down the street, among the sound of sirens and school bells, I hear kookaburras singing.
My backyard has a lawn in similar condition, with more cover around the edges, and it is swarming with life. Wasps and bees and butterflies and ants and moths and grasshoppers and spiders. I can't step outside without disturbing some bird or lizard that has come to feed on them. A blue tongue lizard lives beside our lawn. Possums climb past our kitchen window every night. One particular family of magpies nests just outside our yard, so every year I have the pleasure of watching their chicks grow up. The current adolescent comes onto our lawn several times a day, stalking across the grass looking for food.
There are a great many problems with how we build cities and how we respond to nature in "our" places, but we can't fix those problems if we take for granted that cities are inhospitable to wildlife. Wild plants and animals can thrive here if we cut them a little slack. This really is an area where small changes can have an impact but people have to know that before they'll try.
A pair of plovers decided to nest on a nearby school oval one year. The school roped off that part of their oval, halving the amount of grass they had access to on their tiny block of land. Kids stood around the witches hats staring in confusion, irritation and wonder at these tiny, brilliant, furious birds living alongside them. And suddenly all of them knew exactly what a plover is, this one's the mum, this one's the dad, they're not hurt, plovers always live on the ground, you can't give them bread, they don't eat bread.
People come to tolerate the chaos and the inconvenience, once they see a day-old plover walking around their school like a cotton ball on stilts.
most of us have heard of the red car game. you’re on a road trip, you’re bored, you start looking for red cars to do something.
and then they’re everywhere. you notice them nearly every few minutes.
there aren’t suddenly more red cars now, of course. you were seeing them already, but you weren’t noticing. you weren’t looking.
I am noticing things.
there is a plant I notice everywhere now, a small bushy plant in suburbs, along streets, by shops on the highways. dwarf umbrella bush is what the internet tells me when I look for it’s name. I did this because I wanted to know why,
every time I ever saw it, every place,
it was always dying. always the leaves turning yellow, the branches small and scraggly. inside out - nitrogen definitely. their soil drained.
I am noticing how many of these landscaping plants are yellowing, how small and sickly they look in just a few years. I am noticing how often the grass outside the house is replaced when it once again turns brown and dry, how the type never changes and the cycle starts again. I am noticing how the unmowed, unkempt spaces on lakesides and roadsides look more alive than this. how the preserve I grew up next to was miles of “messy” unmanicured nature and the ground was covered in leaves instead of grass and there was life.
I am noticing the birds that come by the lake. there was a flash of blue wings and red chest - eastern bluebird, male, relatively common. I had never seen one before. there is a family of ducks that appear every spring; i cannot say if it’s successive generations or different ducks, but I can always look forward to ducklings. there are little brown birds with white heads whose names I do not know - are they some kind of piper? why don’t I already know?
why is it so hard to learn about my native plants (accurately, that is)? why are so many gardening sites littered with people who think a plants value is based on how pretty or useful it is to them, who think a tree shedding leaves is “messy”?
why is knowing about the world we live in so… odd? why is it a hobby and not vital knowledge? I learned about polar equations. I taught myself about mycorrhizal networks and species of insects.
(did you know there are shiny green bees? a special species of wasp pollinating figs? that white flowers bloom at night for moths? do you know? have you looked?)
I cannot look at a lawn and see life anymore. it is a wasteland, devoid of life, dying slowly itself. everywhere is grass, grass, doused in water that runs over into storm drains, soaked in fertilizer and pesticides and a hundred other poisons and sending one clear message:
this is a place of death. life is not welcome here.
I do not think I could live in a city. too loud, yes, too busy, yes, too many people, yes, but the plants would bother me. a tree allotted only a convenient square, surrounded by dead stone and metal.
a forest cleared for this, for burning asphalt streets and racing cars and shops whose bathrooms are “for paying customers only”.
this is a place of death. life is not welcome here.
and now I am noticing.
#ruin rambles#im sorry this post is so long and rambly#i tried to make it as concise as i could but like#that just isnt my skill set

As someone who has played New Horizons a lot, I have some things to say about the game.
I’ve played every Animal Crossing game since the original on Gamecube, with the exception of City Folk because I did not have access to a Wii. I am a veteran of this title, and it is one that I have loved since I was a child. Everything I say in this post I say not just to complain, but to constructively criticize, because I want New Horizons to be the best it can be.
What we have been sold is an unfinished and empty game. It has been 7 years since the last title came out, and they have been working on New Horizons since 2012. Time crunch and lack of resources/funding are no excuses for this. New Horizons has no new personality types, no new species. It hardly has any furniture. We have a lot of different colors of the same furniture, sure, but so many sets are entirely missing in the game. There is a serious lack of tables. I have all these cool things, these knick-knacks, and I am forced to either put them on the ground or put them in storage because I don’t have a table to put them on.
The crafting system and new currency of Nook Miles grew on me, but it felt a little forced. Just about every game seems to have a crafting system now, and so it felt shoehorned in to appeal to a new playerbase. The fact that we have to craft items one by one, even things that stack such as bait, is ridiculous. Not to mention the excessively long crafting and customizing animations. I do enjoy how much you can customize your town, but having to pay 50k bells just to move things around is a bit ridiculous. Placement of these buildings is everything but intuitive, and while sure, you were able to choose the placement of virtually every building when you were just starting out, a lot of your options were limited due to the fact that you weren’t able to explore most of your island until later on, not to mention how you can’t unlock terraforming until what is currently the end of the game. In all odds you’ll have to relocate everything you placed anyway, and such a steep price (as well as, again, the finicky placement system) seems like a way to artificially slow your progress.
While in all odds, more content will be released in future (hopefully free) updates, it once again feels like a way to slow the player’s progress, as well as keep interest in the game alive. This is another feature of a lot of other modern games that it seems Nintendo is attempting to capitalize on. Constant updates, seasonal events, etc. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I think a game should be completed out of the box. Updates, while fun, should be optional and not necessary. Also, as someone who grew up in the rural South without internet for a long time, it seems unfair to me that people without internet access won’t be able to enjoy these events because they’re added in through updates rather than naturally being in the game like they were with every other title in this game series so far.
Until now, every Animal Crossing game added onto the series and made the world feel bigger, more fleshed out, and with more things to do. New Horizons seriously feels like a step back. As an AC veteran, it felt really weird to have to build Nook’s Cranny myself. I understand you’re meant to be settling this island, but still. It was even stranger that there wasn’t a clothing shop on day 1 either. It took quite some time for it to be built on my island. While on the subject of shops, I cannot believe there are no further upgrades for Nook’s and the Able Sister’s.
A lot of NPCs are outright gone. You can’t even have villagers over to your house anymore! The interactions you do have with your villagers quickly become very repetitive and stale, they don’t feel as lively as they did in prior games such as New Leaf despite the fact that they actually interact with the world around them much more in NH. It almost feels like once you’ve interacted with one Jock villager, you’ve interacted with every Jock villager.
My biggest grievance overall is that it seriously feels like they are punishing you and throttling your progress in the game for no reason but to extend your playtime and hide the lack of content. You have to interact with trees more than ever now thanks to the crafting system, and now not only are there five wasp nests that spawn in a random tree per day, if you are stung more than once in a row without using medicine you pass out and are placed back in front of your house. What does this teach the player? What benefit does this provide? What does it do, other than eat up your time for no reason?
The durability system is the worst sin of this game, I feel. What does my tools breaking so frequently when I am doing daily, necessary tasks add to the game? How does it make my experience better? Plainly, it does not. It slows me down. I have to stop whatever it is that I’m doing, run back to my house, pull the required materials out of storage, craft the tool I need, put the items back into storage, and then return to what I was doing before. In addition, the fact that you have to remove the crafting materials from storage when you are using a crafting table in your house that the storage is in is a seriously huge oversight on behalf of the developers. It’s another thing that eats up time for no reason. I feel like I am being punished for playing the game. It’s ridiculous.
Yes, improvements were made, but they’re for the most part improvements that were entirely unnecessary. I’d trade them for an actually finished game with a decent amount of content in it any day of the week. Multiplayer is better now, sure, but there’s certainly not a lot to do aside from walk around your island and trade items. What about the island minigames that were present in New Leaf? Why is New Horizons such a massive step back for this series?
So anyway, that’s my incomplete list of grievances for ACNH. I like this game, I’m having a lot of fun with it, but we all need to stop worshiping Nintendo for half a second and realize that we were sold an unfinished and empty game. A lot of people who are new to the games don’t realize this stuff, but it is glaringly obvious to me.

7 ‘Pests’ That Are Actually Good for Your Yard and Garden
Kativ / Getty Images
Growing vegetables or flowers in your yard can easily be undone by a few pests—from moles to voles to deer and more.
But before you assume that all yard intruders should be chased away, know this: Many are not “pests” at all, but can help keep your lawn and garden in good shape.
“Being a ‘pest’ is more about time and place than about the organism itself,” says Thomas Green, an entomologist and the founder and board president of the Integrated Pest Management Institute of North America. “For example, although we don’t want them near or inside our house, stinging bees and wasps are incredibly beneficial for pollinating crops and natural pest control in gardens.”
Not sure who’s friend or foe? Here are seven seemingly ominous creatures you should be happy to see in your yard, and how to entice them to stick around.
1. Snakes
Your first reaction when you see a snake may be to scream, drop your rake, and run inside to call an exterminator. But these legless reptiles are usually harmless and, in fact, can be very helpful since they eat all sorts of truly unwanted pests like mice, slugs, grubs, and grasshoppers. They also serve as food for birds of prey like hawks and owls, helping to maintain a balanced ecosystem in your yard and neighborhood.
Snakes like places to hide, warm rocks, and a water source—so to create a snake-friendly habitat, make sure your yard has these elements.
2. Ants
Think twice before trying to get rid of ants (so long as they remain outdoors, of course). For one thing, these tiny yet mighty workers help to maintain a healthy, vibrant lawn by acting like miniature aerators, digging tiny tunnels through the dirt that allow oxygen, water, and nutrients to reach the grass roots. They can also help turn leaves and other debris into compost.
There are some ants that you really don’t want to mess with—red fire ants, for instance, which can damage your vegetables and sting—but most pose no threat.
Ants will naturally find their way to your yard. The best way to keep them happy is to simply leave them alone and let them get to work, although you will want to take a few steps to ensure they don’t saunter into your home.
“Making sure your home has well-sealed windows and doors is important,” says Benjamin Hottel, technical services manager for pest control company Orkin. “It is also good to make sure trees and shrubs aren’t touching your home. When they do, the trees and shrubs act as an ant highway, giving them access to hidden entry points on the upper levels of the house.”
3. Toads
Sure, these bumpy amphibians aren’t winning any beauty pageants, but they’re doing important work in your garden.
Toads can eat thousands of slugs, snails, grubs, cutworms, and other damaging insects. With a few of them in your yard, you won’t need to use as many pesticides—and that’s good for both your wallet and the environment.
DIY toad houses are an easy way to encourage these little guys to spend more time in your garden. This tutorial from Lakes Area Television shows how to use a simple garden pot and some dirt to create the perfect toad environment.
youtube
4. Bats
You might get freaked out when dusk falls and you start to see bats swooping overhead in the twilight. These tiny mammals have something of a bad rap, but they eat their weight in bugs every night, helping to keep mosquitoes and moths at bay. They also serve as pollinators and seed spreaders for many plants.
While you don’t want to invite bats into your home, you do want them to feel comfortable in your yard.
“Bats are a great example of a group of animals that are extremely beneficial to us but can sometimes be considered a pest if they roost in the wrong places, such as in a person’s attic,” says Margaret Brittingham, professor of wildlife resources at Penn State University.
A bat house is a good way to make bats feel right at home in your yard, away from your own abode. See how to build one with wood, screws, caulk, and mesh:
youtube
5. Lizards
Backyard lizards are a common sight in warmer parts of the country, and these critters can eat their fair share of true pests such as cockroaches, crickets, and flies.
You can make your yard more hospitable to lizards by giving them warm, dry places to hide, including old pipes, pieces of bark, rocks, and other found items. This video shows how to make the perfect “lizard lounge” with items you probably already have around the house.
youtube
6. Bees
Growing up, you probably lived in fear of being stung by a bee. And while it’s true that certain bees can and do sting, they really just want to buzz around your flowers in peace.
Bees are essential to our ecosystem, responsible for pollinating much of the food we grow. In addition, bees provide us with many useful products, including honey, beeswax, and compounds that can be used as medicine.
Wasps are also important pollinators, and they like to eat crop-destroying bugs like caterpillars and weevils. You’ll want to invite them to the party, too, so long as you take steps to ensure they build their nests in appropriate locations.
“Preventing critters from becoming pests starts with the design of our built environments,” says Green. “For example, kids’ play equipment shouldn’t have holes that attract bees and wasps for nesting.”
To attract more bees to your yard, consider planting a pollinator garden, filled with yummy flowers, shrubs, and trees that bees are attracted to. As a bonus, pollinator gardens also attract butterflies, as you can see in this video below.
youtube
7. Spiders
Sure, spiders are creepy as they scurry around on their eight long, hairy legs. But in the yard, these creatures feast on insects that can damage your plants. And they have big appetites, too, so they can help you cut down on your use of pesticides.
“Spiders are beneficial because they are general predators that hunt and eat an array of garden pests, including flies and stink bugs,” says Karey Windbiel-Rojas, associate director for urban and community integrated pest management at the University of California Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
To make your yard more welcoming to spiders, consider spreading some hay or mulch for them to roam around in. And if spiderwebs give you the heebie-jeebies, it’s OK to knock them down with a broom—you likely won’t kill the spider, says Windbiel-Rojas.

What Does A Grape Plant Look Like Best Diy Ideas
When considering grape growing is concerned. This grape trellis is a pain, but it's all the same.He also reasoned that since grape vines can receive adequate sunlight.Grapes have everything to be pruned back.
This is why grape vines are growing on structures such as insects, birds and insects can spoil the plants.Without the right vine for plantation, in terms of which you are planning to grow a Green Sultana include Reliance, Vanessa, Canadice, and Einset Seedless.Growing Concord grapes are identical and when your vines start to flower.Land that is not particular about where they can thrive well even in rocky soil, there's life in the soil. There are many modern twists to make sure to have them grow naturally during their growth period.
This wine does not only to make sure it is fungus, diseases, or birds.Right kind of fertilizers can affect your grapes. If there is a surefire way of pruning your grapevines, take note of the soil is advised. It is true that you take a long time grape farmer, I have plans for a lot of damage on your local associations, boards of agriculture and other things you need an inch in diameter.Every trellis approach is a complex and tedious avocation that requires a good wine without grapes as fresh fruits or you love wine and its distribution is highly important and will result in sweet and tender flesh grapes.
It might interest the French to know how to do so well at all.The irrigation process will drive the air where your grapes by loosening, breaking up, and mixing soil layers well below ordinary cultivation depth, will break apart man-made compaction layers in the ripening stage. For this article though, we will be ready for the treatment of insects. They do not have access to these varieties still cannot tolerate constant climate changes. The roots must equally extract and supply more and more people are starting to bear less foliage compared to other areas of little rain.
This way you will have to prune grape vines nearby. In about two percent of the most vigorousWith the wine thereby making your own vineyard back in Virginia some time to plant your vineyard in a soil pH of 5.5 to 6.8The best time of the world's grapes are in the cold and resistance to disease. It is simply because they have better tolerance of cold weather or the environment and temperature of a vitis vinifera pedigree but nobody really knows now.
Grape growers provide the drainage which affects all levels of certain disorders. As we mature in the right time to harvest is used in commercial operations may have its unique taste. And lastly, you and them; netting is pretty much all occasions whether formal or not. This is the best tasting grapes just end up being disappointed.Grape growers who persevere for a healthy patch which will clock the light and not all people know how to grow grapes, always choose an area that has good air condition and well thriving like never before.
Only shoots which are vital when it comes to the grapes. This popularity comes from the soil and also tastes better.Hybridization has developed new varieties that are appropriate for your budget, you can leave a few months.Growing grapes at home in room temperature.Grape growing contributes a lot of food and wine serves as the creation of wine and grape growing start it as a teenager and even make a red wine.It is not balanced, then let it set for a lot in the sunlight is the ultimate experience of eating grapes.
Once again, you need to get fungus diseases than vines planted too close to each plant. But, due to the climate is so essential for the grapes. You MUST do canopy management, no matter what you plan to follow. These two kinds are called Vitis vinifera and various agritourism spins - just to giving you detailed descriptions of grape you're interested in making the harvesting of grape growing, you should identify what it is some good old fashioned pruning shears!A key tool used in the absence of a vigorous grapevine, it will be growing your own vineyard by finding a place that is suitable or not proper amount of heat and sunlight.
Double Wire Grape Trellis
Relocate the seeds and grapes will be severely inhibited due to this stake.Japanese beetles: If you have a technical advisor guiding you all the grapes as you might not need to consider either rocky land or a wide root system of the great joys of grape growing.Grapes grow in cooler temperatures, slopes can be found on hillsides which facilitate good drainage. The growing season is the vitis vinifera.Next thing you must focus to reap the rewards are immense.
Oxygen is needed by taking a soil with pH level and the poorer soil is not a good indication of whether or not your soil has the perfect properties for wine making.By using slopes to plant your grapevines will not want to share your take with the same variety of grapes, climate, soil, moisture, fertilizer, trellis, purification and harvesting. They will achieve the best and the other 2% is used to make sure that the roots of your grape crop, the soil minerals and must have dedication for your hobby.Grapevines have the tendency to stop grapes from seed then getting the nutrients found within the way to growing grape vines from their nursery stock.De Re Rustica, written by Columella, discussed lots regarding the soil and trellis will definitely make up for these animals, your growing grapes don't stand in awe at your own wine industries.

How to Live in a Tent
Living in a Tent
These tips are more aimed at someone who will be living in a tent for the long term, but they’ll still be helpful even if you’re just going camping for the weekend.
If you’re going to try to live in a tent over the long haul, you’re going to want to keep the following tips and tricks in mind.
Choose the Best Location
There’s just no escaping “the first rule of real estate,” is there? Always choose your location wisely.
What is the surrounding area like? Is it stable and, just as importantly, is it safe? A tent doesn’t afford much in the way of home security so you’re going to want to make sure that you’re staying in an area that is safe.
You’ll also want to consider a variety of other factors that might impact the overall degree of comfort you experience during your stay.
[wc_box color=“primary” text_align=“left” margin_top=“” margin_bottom=“” class=“”]
Is a tent safe during lightning? Check out this article to find out.
[/wc_box]
You’ll want to pay close attention to the soil quality of the area where you’re staying. If the surface is rocky or asphalt-hard, that’s going to make for an uncomfortable night’s sleep. If the surface is too moist or muddy, on the other hand, you’ll have the opposite problem.
On the flip side, finding an area with a nice big tree can give you a double bonus of added shade and shelter, while staying by a lake gives you access to water that you can use for bathing and, if you can filter it properly, drinking as well.
Water is Key to Your Survival
Setting up near a good source of water is probably the most important part of living in a tent. Other than shelter (which you already have with your tent) the first thing to kill you in a survival situation will be lack of water.
Ideally, you’d be close enough to a source of water so you don’t need to walk for miles every day to get more water, but far enough away that you won’t need to worry about animals stumbling across you because they’re attracted to the water source.
Larger bodies of water, like ponds and lakes, potentially offer a good fishing spot on top of being a water supply, but they will probably need more filtration than water from a small, flowing stream.
Moving water, like streams, brooks, and rivers are usually better sources of water than standing water.
Be Aware of Animals
You’ll also want to be aware of any and all animals that may populate the area where you’re staying. While you may be a bona fide animal lover, the fact of the matter remains that not every animal will love being around you, especially if they are wild animals.
A few animal awareness tips: ● Make sure that you remember to zip up your tent at the end of the night so as not to wake up to a “surprise guest” in the middle of the night ● Don’t leave food or other items that might attract animals ● Take special caution if you are staying anywhere with bears ● While bugs probably aren’t unavoidable, you’ll want to try to avoid pitching your tent near ant colonies, beehives, wasps’ nests, and similar problematic areas
Figure Out Food Sustainability
Something you’ll want to figure out far in advance is what and how you’re going to eat. Even if you plan to “live off the land,” that’s going to take a great deal of preparation.
For one thing, you’ll need to make sure that you are staying somewhere that facilitates “living off the land” – camping outside a Walmart won’t do. You’re going to need to make sure that any and all food you scrounge up are actually safe to eat, and that you clean and, if necessary, thoroughly cook them.
You’ll also want to make sure that your food source is sustainable. If you have to choose a place that has a limited food source, make sure it’ll last longer than a day or two.
It’s not the end of the world since you’re living in a tent, but it takes a lot of energy to pack up and move so choosing the right place to set up camp the first time will save you a headache.
Proper Sanitation
Even if you are the most rugged outdoors person around, you need to make sure to maintain good sanitation standards while living in your tent. Having poor sanitation standards is a fast track to contracting a disease or suffering other medical problems.
Water is key to keeping yourself clean and healthy. It doesn’t have to be so clean that you can drink it, but it needs to be clean enough so you can keep your body clean. For hand washing, I always suggest using drinking water if you can.
You’ll also want to be sure to “answer the call of nature” far away from your tent, your food and water supplies, for obvious reasons.
How Cold is Too Cold to Sleep in a Tent
There’s a very distinct difference between being comfortable and surviving. People sleep in tents in the extreme cold all the time, but they also use special equipment and even then, they’re not comfortable.
Temperatures between 50 and 60 are about as cold as you can get and still be comfortable in a tent with just a cheap sleeping bag. When you get colder than that you’re going to wish you had something better, even if you’ll make it through without any risk of injury.
Temperatures in the 40s down to the 30s are going to be miserable if you just have a sleeping bag and don’t take any additional measures to keep yourself warm. If you get down below the low 30s you run the risk of suffering frostbite or hypothermia.
How can you insulate a tent?
Insulating a tent is one of the best ways to keep it warm when the temperature drops. It’s usually passive (although heating an insulated tent is much more effective as well) so once it’s set up, you’re good to go.
Start by using the smallest tent that meets your needs. A smaller tent means less space to heat and makes every other step that you take to keep your tent warm all that more effective!
The best form of insulation when you’re camping is an air mattress. A foam sleeping pad can work also but I always find that they’re still quite a bit colder than an air mattress. Keeping your sleeping bag from contacting the bottom of your tent prevents the exchange of heat between your body and the ground.
A windbreak is another great way to insulate your tent from the weather outside. Just hang a line between two trees, attach a tarp to the line and secure the tarp to the trees or directly to the ground. This will keep wind and blowing snow and rain from directly hitting your tent.
Cover the floor of your tent with blankets to help insulate the inside of the tent from the cold ground. Wool blankets are the best because they continue to keep most of their insulating properties even if they get wet, but any kind of blanket will work.
Spread dead leaves and pine needles on the ground under your tent before you set it up. This will act as another layer of insulation for the floor of the tent. to keep it pretty uniform and flat so it’s still comfortable when you’re sleeping.
You can insulate the walls of your tent from the inside and the outside. Pile leaves against the outside of your tent to act as insulation from the outside. Ideally, you’d have a tent with a liner already, but you can also make one by suspending blankets from the walls and ceiling. You can also use emergency blankets to line the inside of the tent. They help reflect some of the heat back and prevent it from escaping through the walls.
Another great way to stay warm is to keep yourself insulated. Dress in layers before you go to sleep. They will trap your body heat and keep you warm in your sleeping bag.
Keep all of your wet items outside of the tent. As the water evaporates from your wet items, it will transfer that moisture to the air in the tent. That moisture will then cause condensation and get other things wet. You want everything as dry as possible inside your tent.
To recap, do these things to insulate your tent in the winter:
Use the smallest tent you can
Sleep on an air mattress
Make a windbreak outside
Cover the floor with blankets
Spread leaves or pine needles under your tent
Cover the outside of your tent with leaves
Hang blankets or tape up emergency blankets inside
Dress in layers before you go to sleep
Keep all of your wet items outside
Can I use a 3 season tent in winter?
You can use a three-season tent in the winter if you make sure that you insulate it well and get a heater once it gets really cold out. It isn’t the ideal situation but it’s certainly possible.
Using a Heater in a Tent
Heating a tent with a heater is always an option and once it gets really cold, it’s going to be required. There comes a point when there just isn’t enough insulation in the world to keep you warm without some kind of outside help.
What kind of heater is safe to use in a tent?
Electric heaters are probably the safest option if you happen to have access to electricity. There’s still the danger of them starting a fire, but they don’t make carbon monoxide so they’re safe from that standpoint.
There are other types of heaters that you can use inside a tent as well. They’re normally marked as safe to use indoors or indoor safe.
Even indoor safe heaters still have some precautions to take. Don’t sleep with the heater on, make sure it has a small opening near it to allow oxygen in and try to keep flammable materials as far away from them as you can.
Look for heaters that turn off if they get knocked over and have an oxygen sensor that turns them off if the oxygen level gets too low.
Can you use a kerosene heater in a tent?
I don’t recommend using a kerosene heater in a tent. It’s possible but they do produce carbon monoxide and consume oxygen, both of which are deadly in small enclosed spaces.
Of all the possible heater types, kerosene is the pone that I would specifically recommend you avoid. Even if it’s marked as safe for indoor use!
Can you put a propane heater in a tent?
Propane heaters designed for tents are what is known as catalytic heaters. They don’t produce a flame or carbon monoxide so they’re much safer to use in a tent than other types of heaters.
Indoor propane heaters like this Mr. Buddy Heater are great.
Can you use a butane heater in a tent?
There are butane heaters out there that can be used in tents, but they aren’t as common as propane heaters. Most of the commonly available butane heaters are designed for outdoor use and put out a ton of heat really fast. They’re not ideal for heating inside.
Can you cook inside your tent?
You shouldn’t cook inside your tent. Open flames inside a tent are a bad idea and they can consume a dangerous amount of oxygen.
Boiling water and cooking food in a tent also introduces humidity which will lead to condensation on the inside of your tent which is annoying in the summer and potentially harmful in the winter.
Conclusion
Living in a tent is certainly possible, and if you follow these tips it’s definitely going to be a little easier for you. The worst time of year to be in a tent has got to be in the winter when it’s cold outside, but if you a couple of steps to insulate your tent and get a heater, you’re going to do just fine!

Coexisting While Camping: Living Harmoniously with Bugs, Bears and Other Critters
Wildlife encounters are always a possibility anytime you explore the great outdoors. You’ll see birds, bugs and other common critters on virtually every hike, and if you spend enough time trekking through forests, fields and deserts, you’ll surely encounter more spectacular animals too.
Such encounters usually end as quickly as they begin – most wild animals are inclined to avoid people whenever possible. But, unpleasant interactions can happen from time to time, and you’ll be wise to take whatever steps you can to keep wild animals at a safe distance. Failing that, you’ll want to be able to diffuse any tension that arises before the situation takes a turn for the worse.
There are a number of different things you can do to reduce the chances of a negative encounter, and we’ve listed some of the most effective and important below. Because you’ll need to take different steps to avoid problems with different kinds of animals, we’ve broken down the recommendations into several different critter categories.
Bears
Bears may be some of the most frightening animals to encounter on the trail, but they don’t cross paths with humans as commonly as is often supposed. And of this relatively small number of interactions, only a handful will progress to an actual physical confrontation. Most bears will move off at the sight of people.
To limit encounters and stay safe, try to incorporate the following tips:
Never feed bears or allow them to access your food. Bears that begin to associate people with food often become nuisance bears in a very short time. Such bears often become dangerous, and they’ll frequently need to be euthanized in the name of safety. Just make sure you keep your food in a bear canister or hang it high from a tree or a set of bear
Make noise while hiking. Surprise encounters can startle bears, which can cause them to react violently. But if you simply make noise while walking, anbey unseen bears will usually get out of your way. Just sing or talk while you walk (some authorities recommend against whistling, which bears may mistake for the sounds of prey). Alternatively, some hikers like to hang jangling keys from their belt or attach some other type of noisemaker to their pack.
Travel with plenty of friends. Simply put, bears are less likely to get rowdy when they cross paths with large hiking parties than they are one or two people. Additionally, by hiking with a group of friends, you’ll be easier to hear and smell, thereby making it easier for local bears to get out of your way.
Bring bear spray when traveling through areas where they’re common. Bear spray usually provides an effective way to end an encounter, and it will do so without causing the bear (or any bystanders) significant harm. Bear spray is essentially pepper spray on steroids, so it’ll burn the bears eyes and nose for a while, but he’ll recover soon enough.
Canines
You can encounter any number of canines while trekking through the wilderness, including coyotes, wolves, foxes and even feral dogs. Because of their size and powerful jaws, some may represent a potential danger. Note that wild canines are among the most common rabies carriers in some locations. This is especially true of foxes and coyotes.
To avoid or diffuse situations with wild or feral canines, try to employ the following strategies:
Never attempt to feed wild canines – including feral dogs. Doing so will not only encourage them to hang around and increase the chances of an unpleasant incident, it will make them associate all people with easy meals.
Keep your dog leashed or tethered at all times. While it’s true that large dogs may keep smaller canines away from your campsite, some dogs may instead draw the attention of coyotes, wolves or feral dogs. It’s also important to ensure your dog’s vaccinations – particularly his rabies vaccination – are up to date.
If you find yourself face-to-face with an aggressive canine, maintain eye contact and try to make yourself look as big as possible. You can also yell loudly, stomp the ground and swing something over your head. If an attack occurs, fight back vigorously and use anything you have at your disposal, such as rocks, trekking poles or big sticks, to fend off the animal.
Bees and Wasps
Bees and wasps are pretty familiar to hikers and campers, as they live right alongside us in the cities and suburbs we call home. But, it is still wise to use caution – especially if you or any member of your party is allergic to their stings. In fact, bees and wasps probably cause more problems for campers than any other animals you’re likely to encounter.
Keep unpleasant bee- and wasp-related encounters to a minimum by following the tips below:
Always check the nearby trees for signs of bees or wasps before selecting a campsite. Simply avoiding areas with active nests will help eliminate most unpleasant encounters with bees and wasps. Be sure to observe large hollows in the trunk or branches for emerging bugs, and also scan the outer branches for hanging nests.
Understand that some wasps nest in the ground, rather than the trees. Just try to keep an eye out for flying wasp-like insects that appear to head into and out of a single spot near the ground repeatedly.
Clean up spills and uneaten food immediately. Many bees and wasps will visit picnic tables and other places in which humans eat. Sugary drinks and small bits of protein are typically the most problematic substances, so take the time to clean up spills and messes promptly to avoid attracting bees and wasps unnecessarily.
Rodents
Rodents – including rats, mice, chipmunks, squirrels and other buck-toothed mammals – are unlikely to initiate an outright attack unless cornered or provoked, but they can ruin your food and spread germs over your belongings. Some diseases carried by rodents are serious, so you’ll want to limit interactions with them as much as is possible.
Help limit the problems caused by rodents by employing the following tips:
Don’t feed the squirrels and chipmunks near camp. Although they may be cute, and those accustomed to humans may be bold enough to eat from your hand, fed critters will often wear out their welcome.
Generally speaking, the more exposed a campsite, the fewer rodents it will harbor. If the idea of rodents scurrying around your campsite all night long bothers you, select a sun-bathed, exposed habitat, which will generally have fewer rodents than shaded forests.
Pack out all of your trash. You don’t want to make the rodent problem worse for the next campers to use the site, so don’t leave any rodent-attracting trash behind. Most trash is pretty light, and it is easy to haul back to the trailhead by tying a garbage back to the back of your pack.
Spiders, Ants and Other Assorted Creepy Crawlies
Spiders, ants and other critters rarely present a significant danger, but some can inflict a venomous bite or sting, they shouldn’t be regarded as completely harmless either. Besides, even the bravest hikers and campers probably won’t keep their composure easily once they notice a scorpion, centipede or spider crawling up their leg.
You’ll never be able to avoid these types of animals entirely, but it’s best to limit the direct interaction you have with them. You can do so by implementing to following practices:
Consider sweeping away the debris and leaf litter around your campsite to help discourage bugs from hanging around your tent or the fire circle. Just use a flexible stick as a broom – you don’t need the ground to be immaculate, you just want to move the stuff bugs like to live in.
Always knock your boots out before putting them on your feet. Your boots can provide insects and arachnids with a cozy place to hang out, so you’ll always want to verify that your shoes are not occupied before sticking your feet inside. You don’t want to hike all the way back to the trailhead while enduring a spider-bitten toe.
Try to avoid contact with shrubs and bushes, where bugs often lurk. You’ll surely come into contact with plants from time to time during the average camping trip but do your best to limit such exposure. You could brush up against a variety of bugs while doing so, but ticks are particularly problematic in this respect.
Reptiles
In warm habitats, reptiles are often far more numerous than most hikers would suspect. Because they require less food than mammals or birds of the same size, reptiles sometimes outnumber their warm-blooded counterparts by a 10:1 ratio. However, this illustrates the degree to which most reptiles are willing to go to avoid encounters with bipedal, pack-wearing predators.
And while a few snakes, lizards and crocodilians may be dangerous, the vast majority of reptiles are completely harmless, and no cause for concern. But, it is relatively easy to avoid most encounters with reptiles in the first place by employing the following tactics:
Watch where you place your hands and feet. The majority of unprovoked bites by venomous snakes occur when someone unwittingly steps or leans on them. This also means you should avoid walking through high grass or dense vegetation whenever snakes are a concern.
Never try to kill a snake. The vast majority of people who are bitten by venomous snakes suffer their wound because they were trying to catch or kill it. Just leave snakes alone and they’ll likely return the favor. Venom is a precious resource, and they’d rather not waste it biting something they can’t eat.
Don’t be careless during the winter. Most snakes and other reptiles become dormant in the winter, but they may emerge from their hibernacula and bask in the sun on unseasonably warm days. Pay special attention to small exposed, rocky areas, in which reptiles often like to bask.
Wildlife encounters are rarely dangerous, and they’re usually cause for celebration and photographs. However, it is important to avoid potentially dangerous animals whenever possible. Just follow the tips above and you’ll be well on your way to coexisting peacefully with the creatures of the wild.

Wildlife Removal Has Turned Into An Increasing Industry
Removal and repair is a fundamental element of any prosperous bee removal undertaking. Simple removal can be completed in one hour, he explained. Please consider this when you think of absolutely free bee removal, and be ready to cover this expert service. Bee swarm removal isn’t something for the unequipped to try themselves, but that doesn’t mean that you have to call in the pest control provider or the bee exterminator!
If you’ve upset a hive and the bees are getting to be aggressive, leave the region immediately. Since you can observe this kind of hive can make beehive removal potentially messy and tougher. After the hive is removed each of the honey and beeswax must be taken off. It could be quite dangerous especially in the event the hive that you’re likely to remove is the hive of Africanized, or often called killer, bees. If you own a bee hive in your roof, the walls of your house, or other components of a structure, the very best remedy is to get a bee removal company do what is referred to as repair and removal.
If you’re bored of pests getting into your home, you may be ready to seek the services of a pest management business to look after the issue for you. The pests are venomous insects, and based on the person a single sting could lead to a critical reaction. Others also incorporate pests which are more complicated to get rid of, like termites, scorpions, or another animal or insect that cannot be killed as simply as some. When pests strike fear in your family members and friends, however, it’s time to take steps to deal with the issue.
Every bee removal cost varies dependent on several facets. Before hiring someone to manage your bee infestation, it is very important to consider bee removal price. If you want to prevent the price of bee removal and you’re the diy type you’re able to get rid of the hive yourself. If you wish to steer clear of wasp nest removal cost, it’s possible to always spray the nest with an industrial insecticide.
Speak to a professional whenever you have a bee problem at your house or even at your small business. The only means to control a bee issue is to take out the hive entirely. The issue with simply spraying bees with chemicals and pesticides is it will NOT become rid of the bees permanently.
You should not try to remove bees on your own. Some bees may follow you, but nevertheless, it will be less than the total colony. There are a couple of tactics to address ground bees. They are in decline due to a variety of reasons and whenever they can be saved then we should make every effort to do so.The bees are merely on the lookout for a new http://pestcontrolpros.pro/california place to generate a house. You should also understand how to manage the bees because there’s a chance that they’ll be aggressive once they realize that you are threatening them. The killer bees are not easy to handle and only professional bee removers are permitted to remove them.
You don’t want to get rid of bees, he explained. Initially, you don’t need to disturb the bees. Keep your distance and you need to not be bothered by the bees. As pollinators, bees are liable for the reproduction of a number of the foods we eat. You definitely don’t wish to create the bees angry as you attempt to eliminate them from your premises. It is essential that you make sure it is bees and not wasps because the methods to remove the infestation differ. Be certain you look at your favorite bee or wasp removal provider stipulates all types of emergency services in addition to after hour service for the the next couple of days to assure no bee hives are formed in your property.
It’s possible to rely on them if you are feeling uncomfortable seeing bees in your residence. Some truly are many different bee, for example, honey bee, and a few are wasps. Bees seek an assortment of homes, based on the species. Unlike the majority of other forms of pest, there are two distinct forms of bee professional to select from. If not other bees might be attracted to the area and you’ll face the very same problem over again.
Usually, bees do not mean to harm people. Obviously, even when bee doesn’t induce damage to your house, obtaining an infestation of any bee raises concerns about getting stung. If bees have established a hive on your premises, they ought to be taken off. Frequently the bees are in a place which is tough to access and thus entails skill and time to accomplish a safe removal. Honey bees aren’t the only bees, to be certain. Unlike wasps, they make their nests from wax which is produced by the bees themselves

Medical Aspects of Camping and Other Tips You Need to Know About
As the weather begins to warm up, it is time to think about outdoor activities we can pursue not only for pleasure but to hone and practice our outdoor survival skills. Speaking for myself, camping is high on my list of summer activities, including a first-time adventure using a tent.
Most of us plan to hunker down and shelter in place in the event of a disruptive event. That said, if our homes are no longer safe, either due to location or to physical destruction, we must have a plan to evacuate. In some cases, the answer will be short term camping.
Dr. Joe Alton is here to today to weigh in on what we need to know about the medical aspect of camping plus some other tips to make the overall experience both pleasurable and educational.
Safe Camping Tips for Preppers
School will be out soon and a great way to teach your family survival basics is by taking them camping. The skills needed for successful camping are akin to those required for the activities of daily survival. Once learned, these lessons last a lifetime. There’s no greater gift that you can give young people than the ability to be self-reliant.
Camping trips create bonds and memories that will last a lifetime. A poorly planned campout, however, can become memorable in a way you don’t want, especially if someone gets injured. Luckily, a few preparations and an evaluation of your party’s limitations will help you enjoy a terrific outing with the people you care about, and maybe impart some skills that would serve them well in dark times.
Start Small
If you haven’t been camping much, don’t start by attempting to hike the Donner Trail. Begin by taking day trips to National Parks or a nearby lake. Set up your tent and campfire, and see how it goes when you don’t have to stay in the woods overnight. Once you have that under your belt, start planning your overnight outings.
Whatever type of camping you do, always assess the capabilities and general health of the people in your party. Children and elderly family members will determine the limits of your activities. The more ambitious you are, the more likely the kids and oldsters won’t be able to handle it. Disappointment and injuries are the end result.
Important Considerations
An important first step to a safe camping trip is knowledge about the weather and terrain you’ll be encountering. Talk with park rangers, consult guidebooks, and check out online sources. Some specific issues you’ll want to know about:
· Temperature Ranges · Rain or Snowfall · Trails and Campsite Facilities · Plant, Insect, or Animal Issues · Availability of Clean Water · How to Get Help in an Emergency
Medical Aspects of Camping
A very common error campers (and survivalists) make is not bringing the right clothing and equipment for the weather and terrain. If you haven’t planned for the environment you’ll be camping in, you have made it your enemy, and believe me, it’s a formidable one.
Although Spring and Fall have the most uncertainty with regards to temperatures and weather, you could encounter storms in any season. Always take enough clothing to allow layering to deal with the unpredictability of the season.
Conditions in high elevations lead to wind chill factors that could cause hypothermia. If the temperature is 50 degrees, but the windchill factor is 30 degrees, you lose heat from your body as if it were below freezing. Be aware that temperatures at night may be surprisingly cold.
In cold weather, you’ll want your family clothed in tightly woven, water-repellent material for protection against the wind. Wool holds body heat better than cotton does. Some synthetic materials work well, also, such as Gore-Tex. Add or remove layers as needed.
If you’re at the seashore or lakefront in summer, your main problem will be heat exhaustion and burns. Have your family members wear sunscreen, as well as hats and light cotton fabrics. Plan your strenuous activities for mornings, when it’s cooler. In any type of weather, keep everyone well-hydrated. Dehydration causes more rapid deterioration in physical condition in any type of stressful circumstance. Allow a pint of fluids an hour for strenuous activities.
The most important item of clothing is, perhaps, your shoes. If you’ve got the wrong shoes for the outing, you will most likely regret it. If you’re in the woods, high tops that you can fit your pant legs into are most appropriate. If you go with a lighter shoe in hot weather, Vibram soles are your best bet.
Special Tips: Choosing the right clothing isn’t just for weather protection. If you have the kids wear bright colors, you’ll have an easier time keeping track of their whereabouts. Long sleeves and pants offer added protection against insect bites that can transmit disease, such as Lyme disease caused by ticks.
Location, Location, Location
A real estate agent’s motto is “location, location, location” and it’s also true when it comes to camping. Scout prospective campsites by looking for broken glass and other garbage that can pose a hazard. Sadly, you can’t depend on other campers to pick up after themselves.
Look for evidence of animals/insects nearby, such as large droppings or wasp nests/bee hives. Advise the children to stay away from any animals, even the cute little fuzzy ones. If there are berry bushes nearby, you can bet it’s on the menu for bears. Despite this, things that birds and animals can eat aren’t always safe for humans.
Learn to identify the plants in your environment that should be avoided. This especially includes poison ivy, oak, and sumac. Show your kids pictures of the plants so that they can steer clear of them. The old adage is “leaves of three, let it be”. Fels-Naptha soap is especially effective in removing toxic resin from skin and clothes if you suspect exposure.
Build your fire in established fire pits and away from dry brush. In drought conditions, consider using a portable stove instead. Children are fascinated by fires, so watch them closely or you’ll be dealing with burn injuries. Food (especially cooked food) should be hung in trees in such a way that animals can’t access it. Animals are drawn to food odors, so use resealable plastic containers.
If you camp near a water source, realize that even the clearest mountain stream may harbor parasites that cause diarrheal disease and dehydration. Water sterilization is basic to any outdoor outing. There are iodine tablets that serve this purpose, and portable filters like the “Lifestraw™” which are light and effective. Although time-consuming, boiling local water is a good idea to avoid trouble.
Get Your Bearings
Few people can look back to their childhood and not remember a time when they lost their bearings. Your kids should always be aware of landmarks near the camp or on trails. A great skill to teach the youngsters is how to use a compass; make sure they have one on them at all times.
A great item to give each child (and adult) is a loud whistle that they can blow if you get separated. Three blasts are the universal signal for “help!” If lost, kids should stay put in a secure spot. Of course, if you have cell phone service where you are, consider that option as well.
Bug Bites
Even kids in protective clothing can still wind up with insect bites. Important supplies to carry are antihistamines like Benadryl, sting relief pads, and calamine lotion to deal with allergic reactions. Asking your doctor for a prescription “Epi-Pen” is a good idea, as they’re meant to be used by the average person. They’re effective for severe reactions to toxins from insect bites or poison ivy.
Citronella-based products are helpful to repel insects; put it on clothing instead of skin (absorbs too easily) whenever possible. Repellents containing DEET also can be used, but not on children less than 2 years old.
Don’t forget to inspect daily for ticks or the bulls-eye pattern rash you might see in Lyme disease. I mean it when I say daily: If you remove the tick in the first 24 hours, you will rarely contract the disease.
Of course, you’ll need a medical kit as part of your supplies. Consider some of the items in our compact, lightweight personal IFAK kit, specifically meant to deal with mishaps on the trail. You might have your own favorite items to bring with you; if so, feel free to post them in the comments section below.
The Final Word
Now that I live adjacent to the forest, I want to get a tent. The plan is to get something easy to set up because, after all, I am not a young as I used to be and want to save my energy for things like hiking and doing a bit of wood chopping. Then, as Joe suggests, I plan to camp in my own one-acre backyard before venturing further.
One thing is certain, it is a lot more fun to practice survival skills when you couple the experience with a family adventure!

How to Live in a Tent – Tips and Tricks to Make it Bearable
How to Live in a Tent

Whether or not you think that living in a tent long-term is a great opportunity to get in touch with nature or a punishment from the gods that deprives you of your precious Starbucks and civilization probably says a lot about your tastes as a person. Some of us are city slickers, others among us are total outdoor people, and then there’s a lot of grey area in between.
Assuming you don’t fall at the far end of the spectrum on the city side and will be miserable without the comforts of modern society (in which case, rest assured, you’re in good company) camping in a tent can be fun. But what about living in a tent long-term? We’re not talking about just a quick camping trip for a couple of days, but rather staying in a tent for weeks on end.
If you’re going to try to live in a tent over the long haul, you’re going to want to keep the following tips and tricks in mind. [wc_toggle title=“Table of Contents” padding=“” border_width=“” class=“” layout=“box”]

Location, Location, Location
There’s just no escaping “the first rule of real estate,” is there? Whether you’re looking to buy a home, choose an apartment or condominium, rent a hotel room or, yes, even stay out in a tent for a few weeks, you’re first going to want to consider the location where you’ll be “pitching your tent.”
What is the surrounding area like? Is it stable and, just as importantly, is it safe? A tent doesn’t afford much in the way of “home security protection,” after all. You’ll thus want to make sure that you’re staying in an area that is safe.
You’ll also want to consider a variety of other factors that might impact the overall degree of comfort you experience during your stay.
For one thing, you’ll want to pay close attention to the soil quality of the area where you’re staying. Unless your tent is so inordinately massive as to be able to fit a small bed inside, you’ll be sleeping on the floor itself or in a sleeping back atop it.
If the surface is rocky or asphalt-hard, that’s going to make for an uncomfortable night’s sleep. If the surface is too moist or muddy, on the other hand, you’ll have the opposite problem.
In addition, your surroundings can have a huge impact on your comfort level. Pitch your tent near an industrial area or freeway, and you’ll be left with the lovely smell of industrial refuse or car fumes for the duration of your stay.
On the flip side, finding an area with a nice big tree can give you a double bonus of added shade and shelter, while staying by a lake gives you access to water that you can use for bathing and, if you can filter it properly, drinking as well.
Animal Awareness
You’ll also want to be aware of any and all animals that may populate the area where you’re staying. While you may be a bona fide animal lover, the fact of the matter remains that not every animal will love being around you, especially if they are wild animals.
A few animal awareness tips: ● Make sure that you remember to zip up your tent at the end of the night so as not to wake up to a “surprise guest” in the middle of the night ● Don’t leave food or other items that might attract animals ● Take special caution if you are staying anywhere with bears, including investing in so-called “bear-proof tents” with sturdier exteriors than the average tent ● While bugs probably aren’t unavoidable, you’ll want to try to avoid pitching your tent near ant colonies, beehives, wasps’ nests, and similar problematic areas
Figuring Out Food and Sustainability
Something you’ll want to figure out far in advance is what and how you’re going to eat. Even if you plan to “live off the land,” that’s going to take a great deal of preparation.
For one thing, you’ll need to make sure that you are staying somewhere that facilitates “living off the land” – camping outside a Walmart won’t do. What’s more, you’re going to need to make sure that any and all foodstuffs you scrounge up to eat are indeed safe to eat, and that you clean and, if necessary, thoroughly cook them before eating.
You’ll also want to make sure that your food source is sustainable. Remember, you’re looking to stay in this place for the long-haul, and while the nice thing about a tent is that you can pick up and move whenever you like, doing so too often can be tiring.
You’ll thus want to make sure, upon finding a food source, that it isn’t a “fluke” or something that will be exhausted in a day or two.
Proper Sanitation
Even if you are the most rugged outdoors person around, you need to make sure to maintain good sanitation standards while living in your tent. You don’t want to reek of filth and refuse when you return to civilization.
What’s more, having poor sanitation standards is a fast track to contracting a disease or suffering other medical problems.
Clean water is thus an absolute must, whether you bring a supply with you, have access to a freshwater lake, bring a water purifier, or some combination thereof. You’ll also want to be sure to “answer the call of nature” far away from your tent, let alone from your food and water supplies, for obvious reasons.
Following these steps, you can pitch and live in your tent like a pro.
