"Ooooii~~~"
She waved her left arm into the air - trying to catch the attention of the male resting inside one of the large trees surrounding the Akademiya.
There was something a little special about the Traveler today as she was sporting a peculiar set of clothes. Additionally, she seemed to be holding a tiny basket in her right hand which was partially filled with all sorts of sweet treats already.
He cringes. What is she wearing in public?
"I'm assuming I can't say neither, can I..." He shoots her a look, brows scrunching up like her entire presence before him is an actual devil proposing an unrealistic deal. Instead, it's the total opposite — if anything, she's more like the bright sun he's trying to look away from.
"I'll bite. Neither."

[Image ID: A large horizontal drawing of three characters in a indoors scene at sunset. To the left is two men, one mongolian/chinese (Moon) and one african (Sun) in regal attire from their respective cultures. Sun is trying to peak over a patterned room divider in the middle and being told off be Moon. On the right side behind the divider is an feminine presenting nonbinary chinese/african (Star) in a regal dress, combining dressing styles and accessories from both cultures. They are playfully holding up a moon fan to block Sun's sightline.]
@ocrosemagazine
We're allowed to reveal our artwork for Rose: Stelliferous zine (Itchio link), so heres mine! These are Moon(he/him), Sun(he/him) and Star(they/them) respectively, a bit of an older story I haven't done much with yet publicly. Their kingdoms are Moon and Sun themed respectively so they were a perfect fit for the theme of the zine :)
I think I'll make a post just rambling about them some time soon, since I think it will be a looong time until I make a comic for them, and I sorta wanna ramble for once.

Stelliferous
Summary: You stargaze with Arthur. Pairing: Arthur Morgan x female!reader Word count: 1,353 Tags: fluff, shy, high honor Arthur Warnings: no warnings, enjoy the fluff.
a/n: Just a little something I thought of when I found this camp. Plus, I really wanted to draw a constellation. Fun fact, the game has accurate constellations, and Orion is one of them! I had a lot of fun reading about Orion mythology for this one. And TYSM to my tumblr bestie @littlemistey for helping me get the journal entry just right!
stelliferous: filled with stars or bearing stars, often used to describe a visibly starry night.
As everyone went about their business for the night, you headed to a deserted clearing just beyond camp and sat on the ground. You loved sitting alone, getting lost in the stars and the tales that went with them. Just as you were settling down, the snap of a twig alerted you to someone else's presence. The stars had aligned perfectly for you that night, putting you and Arthur in the same place at the same time.
You rose and looked around, spotting the cowboy leaning against a tree. If it were anybody else, you'd be annoyed, but seeing him there made your heart flutter in all the good ways. You loved looking at him just as much as you loved looking up at the stars. But the stars didn't make you weak in the knees at the sight of them or make you laugh until your stomach hurt. But just like the stars, Arthur always felt so out of reach.
"Things're really goin' downhill back there if a lady would rather sleep in the grass than in her tent," he said. His face was neutral, but you could see a playful glint in his eyes. You hugged your knees to your chest and tried to hide your shyness.
"Oh, hey Arthur, I was just––"
He held out a halting hand and tipped his head.
"I was just jokin, miss. I know what it's like to want some peace and quiet." He pushed himself off the tree and gave a two-finger wave. "Anyway, I won't disturb you."
You spoke out before he could leave. "It's no trouble, Arthur." You turned away from him and cranked your neck to the sky. "Y'ever wonder if it's just us out here?" It wasn't a question you expected him to answer. You were just thinking aloud. He didn't respond for a long moment but sauntered towards you, his boots appearing in your peripheral.
"I don't do much thinkin'."
You turned to glance at him again, shaking your head.
"Oh, hush, Arthur Morgan. We all know you do more thinkin' than any other fool around here."
You could tell he was fighting hard to keep the frown on his face from curving upward.
"That ain't saying much." He chuckled on his exhale, then, with a grunt, sat down beside you. "This whatchu' always doing out here? Just—" he gestured to the sky, "—looking up?"
"Don't knock it til you try it, Arthur." A soft smile formed on your face, and you waited expectantly. He quirked an eyebrow, then put his hands behind his head and laid back. A satisfied grin crossed your face, and you dropped down, too.
You spent the rest of the night pointing out stars and constellations to Arthur, sharing all the stories you knew about them. An hour crept by before a yawn escaped you. Arthur didn't show it, but your departure was the last thing he wanted. With one arm still behind his head and the other slung across his stomach, he kept his eyes trained on the sky above.
He was hooked—not on the stars, but on you. Then and there, he realized he could spend eternity on the ground, captivated by the rise of pitch in your voice when you got excited and how your eyes crinkled at the corners when your smile stretched from ear to ear.
From that night, Arthur used stargazing as his excuse to be near you, sometimes sitting so close to you that your shoulders rubbed when you pointed upward. Once, you turned to ask him a question and noticed him staring at you instead of the sky.
"It's impolite to stare, Mr. Morgan." His expression faltered, and he opened his mouth in a stuttering attempt to damage control.
He didn't need to be ashamed, though; you'd felt his eyes on you many times before. He admired you like you admired the stars, and knowing that sent waves of adoration through you.
Arthur caught up with you another evening just as you were finishing dinner. Golden sunlight reflected on his face as he glanced down at his feet, clutching his hat between his fingers. He reached nervously towards your hand, thought too hard, and placed it back on his hat. He started to speak, his words low and careful.
"Got somethin' to show you—somethin' I found— if you'll ride with me?"
You suppressed a building laugh, trying to save him further embarrassment. It tickled you that someone as audacious as him could be made so flustered by the likes of you. Your amusement was well hidden, and you reached for his hand, giving it a squeeze.
"It's about time you asked me on a ride, Mr. Morgan." He nodded and placed his hat back on his head, the brim shielding the building smile on his face. He walked you to his horse. He got on first and held a strong arm down to pull you up.
The two of you road down the Heartlands, across the Dakota River, and through Bard's Crossing. He slowed when you approached a hill outside Lone Mule Stead. Arthur helped you off the horse with one hand, keeping hold until you stood in front of a campsite that overlooked the Upper Montana River and beyond. The site was breathtaking; you could make out the lights of Blackwater, boats on the water, and the expansive night sky in all its glory. Just to the side of the spot stood a small brass telescope. When you finally saw it, your eyes widened, and you met Arthur's, your mouth agape.
"Found this out here the other day," he gestured towards it, beckoning you.
"Oh, Arthur," you ran your fingers across the smooth brass cylinder. You shook your head in slow incredulity. "I've never seen one in person, only seen 'em in books."
Arthur removed the cap on the end, letting it swing on its chain. He nodded toward the viewing device again, and you walked around to the lens, bending to look through it.
"I hope it's everything you read about, miss." His voice was comforting, like the soft rumble of distant thunder. Breathless, you pressed your eye to the lens, and a speckled blanket of black engulfed your vision. Truthfully, the stars were the same as always, but knowing Arthur had curated this moment, just for you, made the night sky more beautiful than ever. When you were done taking it in, you stood to see Arthur watching you from a few feet away. You approached the crate he was sitting on, your hands outstretched and reaching for his.
"Thank you, really," you said. The gunslinger stood and accepted your hands, his lips pressed together tightly as if opening his mouth would betray him. His eyes were strictly focused on your clasped hands. Surely, if his mouth would betray him, his eyes would too.
"Arthur." His name coming off your lips so endearingly could kill him. He finally looked up, his mouth falling open to speak, but you didn't give him the chance. You rose on your toes, your lips crashing against his hurriedly. When he finally realized what was happening, his shoulders fell relaxed, and he wrapped two arms around your waist, pulling you into him. Your mouths moved in sync with each other's until you pulled away for air. Heat had built up in his face, and you saved him the trouble of hiding his blush by wrapping your arms around him tight.
As breathtaking as it was, you forwent the telescope for the rest of the night, opting to wrap yourself in Arthur's arms instead. You pointed up at a line of bright stars.
"See those three? That's Orion's Belt."
"Orion?" he asked, saying the name as if it were a foreign language.
"Orion. He was a hunter—a big and strong one. They say he was a bit of a drunk brute, too. He reminds me of someone." You didn't need to peel your eyes away from the warrior in the sky to feel the warmth of the one right next to you, a knowing, gentle smile on his lips.

the notion of describing a star as "ancient" is very funny to me. like yeah statistically almost all of them are. we're not getting another stelliferous era. probably

Welcome to the World
It is Lore time. Sit down and hearken to my tale of the planet who was once a god.
This particular story is about the planet Patek, and the little creatures which live on their current body. They are the first setting of Prima Materia, a character all their own, and a good case study of the core concepts that make Prima Materia tick. Those things in the background of a setting which are generally beyond mortal ken, invoked by the GM to make low level players marvel at the far-off absurdity and high level players cow in the terror of the unimaginable in front of them.
Patek, as a discreet consciousness, has existed for a very long time. Like most gods, their story begins before the end of the stelliferous period but not so far in the mires of history as to be as old as the universe itself. There are of course other gods like Patek, though they rarely cross each other's paths. One such god, which we will get to in a later post, is Ternak.
Many planets in Prima Materia also happen to be gods. This wasn't the case before the end of the stelliferous period; gods would flit around the universe as they pleased, mucking about in the affairs of other species. They were the cause of great acts of malice and benevolence alike, sometimes depending on how they felt on a particular day. And before the gods were the gods, they were a space faring species. Before that, they evolved somewhere on a planet in the early days of the universe, but that was lost track of long ago.
Eventually, though, the dream ends. Once again, Patek and those like them were at the precipice of change, having watched the last stars in the universe begin to die. Collectively, they decided to mature, and created a last bastion against entropy in their home universe. They created new stars, and new bodies for themselves so they could always be nearby; acting as a lens to funnel Prima Materia into the stars as fuel to keep them burning. Perhaps most critically, turning themselves into planets also allowed for new life to evolve on their surfaces.
When Patek, or any god, sends Prima Materia to a star in this manner, they end up bathing the planet's surface in free-floating Prima Materia. This allows what most cultures would call magic, or Alchemy, to happen.
Many gods like to take on projects
Patek is no exception to this. They delight in the observation of new kinds of life, and have on occasion directly meddled with the genetics of some natural species on their surface just to see what would happen if, say, a large crustacean were smart enough to become sapient. Other times, they've looked into the annals of history and brought an old biological design out of retirement; such as when they decided to re-create a certain successful ape-like species that existed long ago.
Life has existed on Patek for quite some time now, facing many of the same hardships any other life would have earlier in the history of the universe. Life fills ecological niches, extinction events happen, and life re-fills those niches. With each epoch, Patek watches and tweaks things. We are all but humble stentors, and Patek is introducing carmine to our environment to measure our reaction.
Occasionally, Patek sends a piece of themself to incarnate on the surface. When this happens, the incarnation tends to have powers not seen in others, usually the ability to perform miracles or being blessed with long life. These incarnations almost always become large movers and shakers on the planet, completing conquests or becoming great philosophers as they become blessed with sacred knowledge from Patek themself. Their reason for creating incarnations of course is to gather experiences of what it's like to be born into the world, then review the memories once the incarnation dies and the bit of consciousness can be recalled. Sometimes when an incarnation needs help, Patek will send one of these bits of consciousness to talk with them, offering their experience and views on things.
Patek also creates Prophets, which are similar to incarnations in that Patek interacts with them; though they do not carry a piece of Patek within themselves. They can also perform miracles, but usually they're called on to meddle in things where Patek feels their direct influence would not help or not be nuanced enough to succeed.
Getting the lay of the land
Patek, as a planet, is a few degrees hotter than Earth is and slightly larger, with a wide range of flora and fauna across the entire surface. Some of those species of Fauna are sapient, and have their own myriad cultures, traditions, and civilizations.
All-in-all, most of Patek is fairly similar to Earth with jungles, forests, deserts, grasslands, tundras, and mountains. It's also mostly water, though storms tend to be a fair bit more powerful than on Earth thanks to the shape of continents and average temperatures.
Here is the current official map of Patek, with climates mapped out and continents named. I tried to make the continents more or less match up with what they would look like with as little distortion as possible if you were to look at the continent from orbit. Unfortunately, because it's not a Mercator projection that means it's kinda inaccurate; the most egregious example being Meridionalis actually sits over the south pole.
I so desperately want to explain everything about all the continents, what cultures are where, how species interact with each other and other things; but all in due time. They will get their own posts where I can talk about them in the detail they deserve later.
Thank you very much for reading this far. I'm working on combat mechanics at the moment, so if I get those done and tested by next week I'll write about that (unlikely, but possible). Otherwise, I'll write about some other crunch; Attributes and Skills and perhaps character creation.
Thanks to @donutboxers for the render of Patek. It is very cool and I'm using it as my computer background.

AN EXPLORATION OF SCALE
P1: The planet Yiphra and its moons. This is at a scale measurable in thousands of kilometers, commonly the "planetary scale".
P2: The Hevvro System, including the central sun and its four major planets. This scale is measurable in millions of kilometers, commonly the "solar scale".
P3: The "local clump" of stars, including Hevvro itself. This scale is measurable in light years, commonly the "interstellar scale". Distances and measurements do not change on a timescale that matters, but the added third dimension (compared to an ecliptic of a solar system) makes mapping somewhat more interesting.
P4: The local galactic arm, the Khapatt Arm. This scale is measurable in hundreds to thousands of light years, commonly the "lesser galactic scale". Individual bodies are hard to discern on such a scale, and galactic physics may be unpredictable due to unforeseen events.
P5: The Miirtetz Galaxy, including its innermost satellite, Nuunt. Measurable on the scale of tens to hundreds of thousands of light years, or the "galactic scale", it is nigh-impossible to chart a galaxy accurately.
P6: The Maathurtas Cluster, including Miirtetz and Salvared, plus multiple other small galaxies. Measurable in millions of light years (the "intergalactic scale"), positions are easier to chart between galaxies than within them.
P7: The local universe, including the Ashabas Convergence and its tendrils. Measured in billions of light years (the "supergalactic scale"), and impossible to predict.
P8: The "greater" local universe, measured in trillions of light years (the "universal scale"). Stelliferous superregions indicate "young"/"refreshed" areas, while "degenerate" areas are ridden with iron stars and black dwarves, awaiting a rebirth. Early stelliferous superregions have very recently (on a cosmic scale) been "born" or refreshed with matter.

my horrible sentiment over “The Nightingale and the Rose” by Oscar Wilde took root around 2010 but dear fuck the way it flares up every time I think of the “no nightingales” ending of Good Omens season two
Good Omens especially built it up so much more intricately as at the end of season one I was so convinced that Aziraphale loves Crowley and in season two the pining between them shows it all
however,
one more season of this show isn't going to be enough to even begin to patch up what he did
I get that Aziraphale doesn't want to just run away like Crowley always does,
but if Aziraphale has seen Michael in Hell and told Crowley about it on the park bench then what the heck stopped the angel from thinking the inverse can occur i.e. demons can access Heaven without the need to disguise as angels?
why keep prodding Crowley about his fallen status instead of maybe letting him make peace? it's like you want to keep a wound open long enough to fester just because you don't like seeing it heal without your intervention
like after all these millennia of being a nuisance to humans just so Hell doesn't kill him, Crowley is finally free to be passionate and kind, and it's not enough for Aziraphale who seems to be enamored with the stelliferous redhead whose spirit he devastated, on their very first meeting, upon revealing that all of creation would be shut down before they even get a chance to enjoy it?
like that nightingale who impaled itself on a thorn just to produce a red rose only to be rejected in favor of jewelry just because the one who wanted to offer the girl that red rose she asked for wasn't rich?
no fucking nightingales indeed

Also you know how the Carboniferous period was called that because there was an abundance of carbon?
The current era of the universe is called the Stelliferous. Because we have an abundance of stars.
Sometimes a poem is just a single word.
