So, here's a thing!

The first part of my new Sims Story*.

Inspired by Shadowrun & Cyberpunk worlds & themes etc. Basically, my Alien squad getting up to shenanigans that I have decided to mash into a story for funsies:

Newt moves in with new roommates VexX and Ambergris, all aliens living on Simterra*. Newt hopes to make a new life for himself and pursue his medical training, and maybe make some friends along the way. Little does he know that VexX and Amber are actually part of a Runner crew, taking on jobs that frequently involve the underworld and shadier elements of the city...and it often leads to trouble.

【Ｃｈａｐｔｅｒ　１：　Ｉｎｔｒｏｄｕｃｔｉｏｎｓ】

Newt: Well, here goes nothing. I got this? I got this. Okay Newt...just like we practised...Oh! Should I have brought some kind of food as a gift? Have I got time to run to the shop? I wouldn't even know where the shops are here...ugh Well, that's that then. Guess I'm doing this, gift or not...

Newt walked into the apartment, and was immediately greeted by a man in dark sunglasses with deep grey skin with red markings, and with red hair to match. Newt was an alien himself, but this man looked like no being he had ever seen before. He was so intrigued and realised that he was staring, and his carefully rehearsed introduction ended up tumbling out in a garbled mess... Newt: Oh...um...helloit'snicetomeetyou, mynameis- ???: Woah! Slow down, kid! You're Newt ain't ya? Newt: Y-yeah that's me! I live here! Well, sort of. I will live here...um...I'm moving in today!

VexX: [VexX chuckles] Heh, I knew it! Take a breath, Newt, ya found the right place. 'm VexX. Guess we're officially roomies now! Newt: G-good to meet you! [Newt automatically reaches out to shake hands, and VexX returns the gesture] VexX: Careful kid, that's my eyeball you're squeezing. One of 'em, anyway! [VexX winks]. Newt: Oh, I'm so sorry! Um... [Newt withdrew his hand, flustered, which only seemed to amuse VexX]

VexX: [VexX laughs] Relax, 'm only jokin' with ya. Seriously, don't worry about it. It ain't like ya expect eyes to be there, y'know? Even with people like us! [VexX eyed Newt's bag and suitcase] Is that all ya stuff? [Newt nods, and VexX nodded back in understsanding] 'kay then, here, let me grab that one for ya and I'll show ya t'ya room. Newt: That's okay I can manage...don't trouble yourself...um... Newt quickly realised that his protests were pointless, and he surrendered the bag to his insistent, helpful new housemate.

VexX: So I'll give ya the grand tour later but for now, my room is at the end there, you're next to me 'cause...well, Ambz will explain 'm sure...there ain't all that much to see but it's home, y'know? Newt's gaze swept over the apartment as his new roommate lead him to his new room, excited. His new home. VexX was right that there wasn't much to see - from here he could see most of the rest of the apartment. His attention snapped back to VexX. Newt: Sorry...uh, Ambz? VexX: Yeah, Ambergris, our other [VexX cleared his throat, looked over his shoulder and raised his voice as if addressing someone who wasn't present. The increased volume made Newt jump] ANTI-SOCIAL roomie - I'll drag his ass out of his room so he can say hi, don't ya worry. Newt chuckled softly - he already felt far more at ease than when he first arrived. He hadn't imagined it going this smoothly! One roommate met, one to go...

VexX: And here it is! Your own personal space. [VexX gestured around the room] It uh, might not look like much but- Newt: [In almost a whisper] It's perfect. VexX: I mean uh, I wouldn't go that far but whatever powers your uh, light-speed drive I guess. Newt nodded, taking in his new space. The furniture was sparse, a shabby bed and chest of drawers and a pokey desk. But to him, it may as well have been a luxury hotel suite. He could work with this - besides, it wasn't like he needed much space anyway. VexX: I'll leave ya too it so can settle in a bit, and I'll go drag Ambz out...we'll be in the livin' room when you're ready. Ambz might not even be awake, so take ya time. Newt: [Newt chuckled and smiled] Thanks, VexX. It's been great meeting you. VexX flashed Newt a grin, showing off rows of spiky teeth. Newt also thought he saw a hint of an otherworldly looking tongue, but it could have been his imagination. VexX: Yeah, you too - welcome to your new home, kid!

VexX left Newt alone in his new room, clutching the handles of the small bag of belongings he had brought with him. His suitcase was still by the door, but he could grab it later. VexX seemed friendly, even if he looked intimidating. Though he wasn't entirely sure how to feel about the nickname "kid" yet. Especially when VexX didn't seem *that* much older than he was - he hoped it wouldn't stick! But, those were all things to worry about later. For now he had a space of his very own. Yeah, things were going to work out just fine.

First, you speak English better than I do and it’s the only language I speak.

Second, I agree. As the story progresses, it gets more complicated, yet not deeper on an intellectual level the way Harry Potter and Percy Jackson do. In both those series, there are heavy themes of betrayal and morally grey characters, on top of questions that really make you think, like what is the limit? Who is really, truly good and bad? Those series (especially Percy Jackson) are so captivating because of this fact, the way as the reader grows up, so does the writing.

In Keeper of the Lost Cities there are several moments that really make you feel like there isn’t plot armor but just harsh reality. When Fitz and Sophie get attacked with the Shadow-Stuff (I forgot what it was called) that was a high stakes moment. Even in the first book, one of the darkest moments in the series. And finally, in Stellarune (I think), Sophie burning the storehouse, which was weird because everyone acted like it was bad when it was morally questionable, but more of a win than a loss. Off the top of my head, those are the only three moments that there really were questions of how dark the series would go, specifically when it came to the main character.

I think, that for Keeper of the Lost Cities to be truly amazing, Shannon will have to leave behind the happiness of the series. She needs to seriously consider killing a lot of characters, and making them do things like burn a store house or leave your brother in goop to die because it’s the only thing you can do. It’s more about how she writes it, as Fitz being bad for having anger and trust issues after being betrayed and lied to his whole life, and then on top of that Alvar hated him. Like why wouldn’t he want to kill Alvar? Or Sophie burning down the storehouse because she doesn’t care if it hurts her, it hurts them more so she’ll be damned if she doesn’t do something. Like these things are super hard and interesting and need to be fleshed out better, because Shannon is really good at writing the set up for struggles (Bianna being scarred for life, Keefe’s mother betraying him, Wylie losing everything and taking it out on Sophie, Mr. Forkle manipulating everyone, etc), but the solution is almost always simple. Idk if this makes sense but here’s my two cents.

I just want kotlc to be a bit darker and less childish. All series have become more mature over time, Harry Potter Percy Jackson etc. but kotlc remains childish the series does not mature. I will be honest I would like to see some tension in the book that there is between teenagers that there is in real life and which is transcribed in the last volumes of HP or Percy Jackson. I wish there was more blood, more complicated stories. I would like the covers to become darker without having mini unicorns drawn on them. I speak English very badly and I don't know if it's understandable

A lot of people followed me for Salem and he is one of my favorites in the Main 14 so I’m gonna infodump about him a little bit.

Here’s my first real drawing of him! I came up with Salem while listening to Touch Tone Telephone, because the shit slaps and I wanted to run a Monster of the Week campaign. For the campaign I needed a character that would aid the players in solving the mysteries and bringing all their characters together. The first two characters I made for the campaign were Salem and Danial Cedarwood (who was inspired by Stan Pines and Ned Chicane) Originally, Salem was a Terran radio host and monster hunter. He was supposed to have a contract with the Greater Forest Spirit, Astacagoth (Mothman) that would lend him some of the spirit’s strength. So in the beginning he was just a regular human man who had a contract with a forest spirit. There was also another unnamed NPC who had the same setup as Salem but with Bigfoot, he was scrapped in the end but was still neat.

At the time I had just started listening to TAZ Amnesty and hadn’t met Indrid yet, when I did meet Indrid and Griffin discribed him having the iconic red tinted sunglasses I thought “hm maybe it would be more fun if Salem was literally just Mothman” It was something I had already considered but I wanted to make sure Salem wasn’t like Indrid. I turned away from Salem’s original more mysterious personality and decided to make him incredibly cocky with a very good heart. He became the guy who always put himself between his friends and danger and also was just an absolute himbo.

Salem’s backstory was about Astacagoth, a tired spirit who couldn’t be killed, being hunted by monster hunters who saw him as a threat. After being slain many times, he desired to move on instead of being resurrected over and over again. Helaphiel was an angel and a friend of Astacagoth’s, he asked her to help him move on. Since spirits exist as something between the realm of the living and the dead, they can’t really die. So to allow him to die, the energy in his soul, his essence basically, needed to be repurposed. One night, 13 year old Salem Graves was exploring the woods during one of Astacagoth and Helaphiel’s meetings. Helaphiel agreed to take a portion of Astacagoth’s soul and give it to Salem. So Astacagoth became a mortal soul and moved on while Salem was basically upgraded from mortal to Greater Forest Spirit. Becoming Mothman.

When I started to flesh out his backstory I remembered one of my abandoned characters, Rian. Rian has been at least 3 different characters. Her name, appearance, and personality stay the same every time, but her story changes. I decided to finalize her as Salem’s younger sister. With this new family dynamic I created the two’s backstory. The two were orphaned when Salem was 10 and Rian was only 3. Rian and Salem were half siblings, sharing the same father, they were both raised by Salem’s mother and their father, Rian never knowing her biological mother. Originally, the two shared a mother because Rian’s father was Satan. However I thought it might be fun to put a twist on antichrist by making her the opposite of Christ. You have the Son of God, God being the Father, and the Daughter of Satan, Satan being the Mother.

With Rian as the antichrist I was able to more properly tie in Helaphiel to the story. Rian is one of many antichrists, one of Helaphiel’s sacred duties was to keep an eye on these children and keep them isolated from the devil, postponing the apocalypse. Angels and Forest Spirits tend to get along, so originally the only reason Helaphiel had anything to do with the Graves Siblings was that they happened to live in Astacagoth’s territory, but with Rian in the mix it became a bit flipped. Helaphiel was there for Rian and she would happen to run into Astacagoth from time to time. After Salem became the new Mothman, Helaphiel decided to adopt them because she felt guilty for what she did to Salem. Her original thought was that by making Salem a powerful spirit, he could protect his sister from the demons that would inevitably come to influence her, totally did not consider that she would be turning a 13 yo child into a big scary monster.

Helaphiel is also a member of the High Magic Council of Genesis, at this point in the timeline, Agael Stellarune is the Emissary of the Goddesses of Magic and head of the Council. My girl Lumaria has not been born yet. Salem has no connection to the Council yet.

Fast forward 5 years after Salem’s incident, Salem is 18, Rian is 11. At this point Salem has just graduated High School and Helaphiel leaves Salem alone to take care of Rian so she can return to her job at the Council full time. Salem starts working for the local paper after his online blog starts to grow in popularity. He basically writes stories about the strange happenings in his hometown, of which there are many. He uses this as a way to get information from people so he can better do his job as a Forest Spirit. (Which is to protect his territory and everyone who lives on it)

At this point the war with the Izebellian Empire has begun, Izebel herself is only 8, but by the time she was 5 she was a worthy vessel of Circe’s curse. Ageal forms the New Genesis Alliance as a response.

Three years later, Ageal is murdered by the knight September. Despite the Council assuring her that she doesn’t need to take the position because she’s literally only 10, Lumaria Stellarune takes her mother’s place as Emissary due to her already strong connection to Ashtia and Arcadia.

Under Lumaria’s lead (with Helaphiel, Xoul, and Madam Veronica acting as her closest advisors) Salem begins working closely with the Council as a Terran operative. In this same time, the Vandals move to West Virginia to help with the increase of spiritual activity near Point Pleasant. One night, Qwynn and Anastasiya Vandal encounter Salem and lesser forest spirit, Vistrag, while Salem is in his true form. Qwynn, eager to prove herself as an amateur monster hunter to her parents, makes a familiar contract with Vistrag.

Which is super helpful to Salem when the Vandals move to Valewood, Colorado. /s

After having to move out of his designated territory (something a greater forest spirit hasn’t ever really done before) along with 50+ lesser forest spirits just so one (1) idiot teenager can keep her familiar, Salem moves into the adjacent town, Aderdeen, and starts working at the radio station. There he continues his same gig that he had as a journalist except now he’s a radio show host. Him and a group of college students (of which includes local cryptid enthusiast, Susan Monroe) create a show called The Valewood Night Watch. The actual Valewood Nightwatch consists of Salem, Rian, and local (normal) hunter and bastard Danial Cedarwood who finds out Salem’s secret while hunting one night and decides to help protect his town.

Then my MotW campaign starts. The campaign kicks off with the death of Jack Harper, who was out hiking at night with his best friend Jessica North. The next day Jessica calls the Valewood Night Watch and reports that the thing that killed her friend was some kind of large creature with black leathery wings and tall deer antlers. This will be the hook that will bring together a group of unlikely heroes that will eventually start a forest fire, fail to save the local weatherman from Zombie Jack Harper, get a local sheriff abducted by the Men in Black, and other dumb shit that I love them for.

I don’t know how the campaign will end, but nothing will happen that will drastically change the canon timeline. Everything else is spoilers for the start of Unorthodox ;)

Stellarun 4 - Old Wounds

Sometime later...

Newt: Hey Amber, just checking in on you. You okay? Ambergris: I'm...fine Newt: You don't sound sure...you're not still feeling queasy are you? Ambergris: ...no Newt: I've had enough protests from VexX today, don't you start! Ambergris: Fine, come in.

Ambergris: Siiiiiiiigh. See, I'm fine. Newt: I'm here if you want to talk. Or I can just keep you company, whatever you need. Also did you just...say "sigh"?

Ambergris: I don't want to...it's stupid... Newt: Doesn't sound stupid if it's upsetting you. Ambergris: Ugh, I hate when you say smart things. Newt: If you're worried about VexX, he's fine. Ambergris: I always worry about VexX...he's an idiot.

Ambergris sighed heavily and then shuffled to sit up as Newt waited patiently. Ambergris: Fine. You may as well know - it was going to come up sooner or later. Before you moved in...we had another Roommate. Tangea. He is...was my boyfriend. And a medic, like you. Newt: Oh...right...I think VexX might have mentioned at some point...

Ambergris: Yeah...the way you came in and started telling VexX off...reminded me of him. Gee would do that too, all the time. Newt: I mean, it's VexX. He always needs telling off. Ambergris: You're not wrong. Newt: What was Tangea like? Ambergris: Brilliant. Obnoxious. Beautiful...

Newt: I think I get the picture...so what happened? Is he...um...?Ambergris: Dead? No. That would be easier, in some ways. We fought over a decision I made, and he left without saying goodbye...but I knew why. I...I'll admit I've text him a few times but he's never replied. Please don't tell VexX.

Newt: Wow. I had no idea, Amber, I'm sorry. You must really miss him... Ambergris: More than you could ever imagine.

Ambergris started to sob, and Newt felt himself starting to cry too. Damn pheromones! He pulled Ambergris into a hug. Newt: Amber...come here. I know it hurts, and I wish I could make it better. But you've got me now, and VexX. When he's not being a moron...

Ambergris: Heh...yeah. We're quite the messy trio, aren't we?

The following night, VexX returned to the apartment after completing the job. As it turned out, it was a basic milk run job, but he hadn't come out of it entirely unscathed...

VexX: Fuck...that stings like a bitch. Now just gotta hope that no one heard me... Newt: VexX? VexX: ...shit

Newt: We were just...oh my stars, what happened to you?! Ambergris: Aiiieee! VexX! You could have warned meee! VexX: I'm sorry Ambz...I, uh...got in a fight. Newt: A fight? Like a bar fight or something?

Ambergris: Oh...that's quite a bit of blood... VexX: The other guys look way worse. Of course. Heh. Newt: Jeez VexX...let me check you over! VexX: Kid, you're cute, but I'm fine. It's just a scratch. 'sides, it should heal fast - accelerated healin', remember?

Ambergris: Ugh, I think I'm gonna vom... Newt: Amber, you okay? Ambergris: I get...squeamish...ugh it's so stupid... VexX: Ambz, ain't nothin' stupid about being squeamish. But you don't need to stay - 'ppreciate the concern though. Newt: VexX, please let me help. You're hurt. As a Doctor- VexX: Doctor in training. Newt: Right, but I still have a duty of care, and you're my friend! Ambergris: Blurgh...

Newt: VexX Go wait in the kitchen, I'll go and get my kit. And you had better be there when I come back! Amber, go and lie down. VexX: Damn kid, you ain't messing around. Ambergris: Yeah...I'll...be in my room...trying not to pass out...

Newt: I'm home! The not-so-muffled sound of arguing can be heard coming from VexX's room. VexX: ...had no right to go behind my back- Ambergris: This, here? How you're overreacting? Is exactly why I did it!

Newt: Oh no...I'd better see what's up...maybe I ought to listen at the door

VexX: You knew I didn't want the kid mixed up in our work because it's dangerous! He doesn't need to see the dark side of Simterra... Ambergris: Right, but Newt isn't a kid, and he's already mixed up in our work thanks to your stunt coming home from a job bleeding all over the place!

VexX: Yeah I fucked up, Ambz, but that doesn't give you the right to drag him into this! Ambergris: Have you even asked Newt what he wants? Did that even occur to you? He might say no! I just wanted to give him the option to join us. Properly.

VexX: I just thought...after everything with Phase*... Ambergris: Don't. Mention. Him. It's not the same, and this has NOTHING to do with him, you're just justifying your overprotective assholery- *Tangea

VexX: Fuck Ambz...that was...real shitty of me, I'm so sorry... Ambergris: I know. But...

Ambergris: ...Have you considered that maybe this is a "you" issue? I can look after myself, y'know. And so can Newt. You don't have to protect us all the time... VexX: I...

Newt: H-hey...you two...

Newt: Do you think maybe we could all talk about this?

VexX: Oi, watch the face, kid! Are you this rough with all your patients?! Newt: Just the ones that lie to me. VexX: Kid-

Newt: Don't "kid" me! A bar fight, really? You expect me to believe that? I'm not stupid. Naive, maybe, but not stupid! VexX: Uhh... Newt: I've been here long enough to know something is up. You and Amber whispering, you sneaking in and out of the apartment at all hours...this isn't the first time you've come home injured, either. VexX: It's nothin' for you to be concerned about, kid. Trust me.

Newt: It's just I...I thought we were friends. VexX: We are, kid. It's...not you, it's me and Ambz we...we have a job to do...an' it's complicated.

Newt: Complicated. Right. I get that I'm the new kid...but I care about you and Amber. So, fast healing or not, I want to know how often you plan on bleeding over the floor. VexX: Wasn't gonna make a habit of it, no...

Newt: This will probably sting...I'm just going to clean you up a bit, check there's nothing out of the ordinary. So, are you like, secret agents or something? VexX: Don't make me laugh, it hurts! Newt: Good! Maybe that'll teach you to be more careful! VexX: Jeez kid, remind me not to get on your bad side... Newt: I do know where you sleep. VexX: Yeah...thanks kid.

VexX stayed silent as he let Newt busy himself with tending to him. He'd never seen Newt angry before though it was difficult to tell what he was thinking currently. Newt: Well, you seem fine, that's the main thing. VexX: I told ya not to worry didn't I? But uh, look, kid... Newt: It's okay. I was - AM - angry, but it's not really my business if you have secrets. Just...try not to get hurt. But I'll be here if you do. VexX: Yeah...we don't deserve you kid. I won't forget this.

Ramble about my Sims Stuff

I was overly ambitious with Stellarun as a first Sims story lol.

I have no real experience editing or doing storytelling so I can't really do it justice abd it just makes me feel meh about it.

I do plan on getting back to them at some point as I love them dearly. I will post them still (which will include stuff that hasn't happened yet like relationships etc). The story can come later.

But I think I need to try something simpler to get a feel for storytelling. My new story is set in the same world and they will crossover I'm sure at some point.

Fuck it, the story is now called Stellarun cause it's like Shadowrun but aliens so stars cause SPACE.
