This is totally random, but as far as the JONAS (LA) X BTR crossover (either one, really) goes...

Macy's favorite of the btr boys is carlos, because sports, and also bc he's just fun to hang out with. macy seems normal and put together at first, but she loves physical activity, as we know from s1, and carlos (platonically) matches her freak in the places nick doesn't

Stella's favorite is...and isn't james. she's basically that post that's like "you're in his dms. i'm pissing him off, i'm ruining his day" but in the most convoluted way possible, they also, platonically, match each other's freak. all in all, stella would rather spend time with the other girls, and she obviously adores joe, bc he understands her thoroughly, but james is like...the opposite. they understand each other and fucking hate it.

Katie and Frankie deserve the most insane sublot that builds up over time, until their scheme eventually collides with the main plotline and wreaks absolute havoc. they're ten years old and evil geniuses with famous brothers, you know the two of them meeting will bite everyone in the ass in the end.

I do think Nick and Logan would get along, but the thing is, logan is a science and math nerd and nick is a writing and music nerd. they're slightly different species of nerd. but I think nick would get along best with logan and kendall, bc even though they can go off the deep end sometimes, they're easier to handle than carlos and james.

I'm gonna ramble about Kevin and Lucy again bc I want to. it's so hard for me to imagine lucy with like, any other guy, just bc james is clearly gay, and the subplot with her and kendall was a total mess since he hadn't broken up with jo first... Anyway, they're both rockstars, and Kevin had a lot of character development in s2. he's kind, responsible, ambitious, and Lucy is headstrong, confident, and clever. I feel like they'd actually have a very normal relationship timeline compared to a lot of other ships/couples, simply bc by the time they're both in the narrative they're 18/19 and living on their own.

Joe...he would get along best with kendall, not just for the main character energy, but also bc I feel like they react similarly in a lot of situations, but joe is also a little more self-sufficient than kendall is, which isn't a bad thing, and is mostly due to living in la without his parents for a/multiple (depends on crossover fic) summer(s), whereas kendall's always had his mom and friends doing everything together.

Kevin's an interesting one, bc while s1 era kevin would definitely be best friends with carlos, by the time jonas la rolls around he's mellowed out. he's still a little dramatic sometimes, but post-HMA Kevin is very different bc of the responsibility for his brothers he gained over the summer. I feel like he'd sort of keep that older brother role he's grown into, so, besides his relationship with lucy, he's mostly helping clean up the trouble and not cause it. at the same time though, i think he'd get wrapped up in the katie and frankie subplot the most

Joe and Camille would also get along pretty well, mostly bc they have acting in common, with joe wanting advice from camille solely due to her years of experience. she's also easier to talk to than bigger names in the industry, so it's more of leaning on a friend instead of a mentor

Jo and Macy definitely spar every so often, mostly bc jo likes that there's another girl around that she can connect with about physical sports. it's not the same trying to spar with kendall, and now she has someone who's an even match against her.

Mona is one of the few people that aren't afraid to go toe to toe against griffin, given she doesn't work for him, and she's definitely screamed at him for Kelly's sake. gustavo is a little afraid of mona, and rightfully so. she's proud of that.

once again thinking about the JONAS/Lab Rats Swap!AU...

Adam, Bree, Chase and Marcus blow up as a band when Leo records them playing at a party. (I added Marcus in bc I could, and also bc he was part of the band in the show. Bree sings...she doesn't really play any instruments, but she has a tambourine and she sings.)

Due to some...thing that happened, Donald gained custody of his brother's kids. (maybe he was in jail? I've seen that in a non-bionic au post before and i'm tempted to use it) but Marcus had (ooh wait i think i'm cooking now) been living with Giselle (I can do what I want actually; giselle is marcus's mom in this, so for most of the plot he he has Giselle's last name, Vickers, since she wouldn't have changed her name even if she and douglas had been married, since she'd made a name for herself already, and douglas comes back into the picture later on, after the storyline starts. I'm thinking Adam, Bree, and Chase don't know Marcus is their half-brother, but neither does he until douglas comes back into the picture). And Giselle is a successful movie director with side projects in robotics, but without bionics in this au, she's not evil. A little unhinged, maybe, when it comes to her work, but not evil or trying to kill anyone. So, Marcus doesn't have as shitty of a life in this au.

Donald still marries Tasha, who already had Leo, and they become one big family. That all stays the same. However, with no bionics there's no lab, and ABC aren't a surprise. They were homeschooled until middle school. (I'd say the whole time, but a big thing in JONAS is that the people at school are used to them, so they aren't freaking out about a famous band going to their school, and I want to keep that aspect in there.) They have been learning music since they were kids, though. (I really want to call the fic "One of em's a girl!") but they haven't tried to make it big until they go viral online after forming the band with the three of them and Marcus. (they break out the concert in a can, which makes the video even more impressive).

Chase plays the guitar and bass, but since Chase picks things up quickly and Marcus plays the guitar, he plays bass most of the time. Adam is on drums, and Bree sings.

As for the supporting cast, I want to say Owen, Caitlin, Sebastian, Sabrina makes an appearance..., Logan, Taylor. Most of them have similar dynamics as in lab rats canon. There's that one episode in JONAS, that, in this AU, Troy West has the world thinking he and Bree are together until they disguise Sebastian and convince the world he's a "mystery guy" that's actually dating Bree. (they're a crush that doesn't last long. I'm thinking maybe in this au she meets skylar in LA and they get together, because there isn't much room for "childhood best friends to lovers" storylines with lab rats, but I also don't want to bring in all the mm characters initially bc that's a lot, so I'm trying to stick with lab rats here). We're not doing the Anya plot bc that was a mess, but Adam falls for Owen because he's a little eccentric. Bree doesn't accidentally convince him he needs to learn to be "normal", but she does assure him Adam likes that he's different. Chase...he and Sebastian eventually get together after a tumultuous friends-to portion of their friends-to-lovers plotline. (Like Joe and Stella, yes.)

And as for why it's a Swap!AU...

Frankie Lucas accidentally finds the basement lab of the firehouse when he's...let's say he's 13. (if he's ten he can't take them to school with him and have it make sense, so I aged him up a bit.) Sandy also didn't know about her husband's experiments...wait. or Sandy and Frankie come into the picture later... Frankie is still 13 though, so he's at least closer to the boys in age.

Tom had given Kevin superstrength, Joe superspeed, and Nick super intelligence (though Joe is not a girl, he has the same genetic modifications Bree has so that his body can handle his bionics). (this part of the swap!au is more difficult to come up with). I don't know what do with Stella and Macy here. They could be anything, honestly.

Crystal and Niko remind me a little of Stella and Macy, but like, put into a different genre. okay, hear me out. Niko's strength lies in her kindness and, sometimes, her cleverness. She's quiet, and sometimes it seems like she's just happy to be there. It reminds me of season 2 Macy, just a little, though Niko is a lot less prone to freaking out, like Macy did on the boat.

and then, Crystal is the Stella to Niko's Macy. Stella is sweet a lot of the time, but she has an edge to her that comes out when she's frustrated with the boys.

and...idk, it's mostly vibes bc I heard Niko talking and the way she speaks reminded me of someone before I realized it was Macy

I know that Jonas s1 is episodic and I was assuming that is why Joe liked Angelina in s1 ep 8 ‘that ding you do’ even though he and Stella like each other. But then I realised that it makes a lot of sense given that in the episode before hand ‘fashion victim’ Joe and Stella both agreed to stay out of each other’s personal lives (even though we know this immediately backfires because they still very much like each other) so ‘that ding you do’ being aired after fashion victim makes sense since this means at this point in canon they’re trying to avoid the idea of liking each other before it gets brought back into question in ‘love sick’.

I feel like I rewatch a lot of season 1 Jonas episodes (despite liking season 2 a lot) because of how cute Joella is in s1.

Like in Pizza Girl, you can see Joe rolling his eyes when Stella is ogling the juice king delivery boy in the end credits scene.

I like how they have a lot of little moments like this even when the episode isn’t dedicated to them.

that one scene in Double Date where Stella is (understandably) pissed at Joe and then theres:

Stella: I would like to go home now, Van Dyke.

VD: Of course, Stella. I'll call my mom.

his delivery in that scene kills me. and there's a blooper where Joe and Stella knock something on the table over when they put the swords down, so the actor for Van Dyke still says his line, and puts his phone to his ear, but then he pretends to be electrocuted by it, and Joe and Chelsea just lose their shit

When is Stella's birthday?

In the episode Forgetting Stella's Birthday, after they inevitably forget Stella's birthday and Macy confronts Kevin about it, who says it's "after Joe's and before [his]", and then he says it's the 7th. Later that same day, when they're going between the interview and Stella, Kevin borrows Nick's pajama shirt, and when Stella points it out, Kevin says "not on Fridays", and, given Stella doesn't correct him on the day of the week, that implies that day (the 8th) was a Friday. So, I went back to 2009 on my calendar, and the only time the 8th falls on a Friday that year is May

HOWEVER, the girls are wearing relatively heavy jackets when they enter the firehouse, and Joe references a word from his "word of the day calender" and says it was from May 23rd, which is well beyond the 7th. I looked at 2010 as well, which adds January and October to the possibilities. I'm not sure why they never show seasons passing, even though new jersey gets all the seasons, but whatever

I'm thinking Stella's birthday is either January 7th or October 7th

my mom had to point this out to me on my rewatch, but the reason Stella's hair was curly in the airport scene is bc she let it air dry after she washed it. she had curly hair in the first season, but in season 2 she straightened it, which also goes along with Joe saying she "was in the pool all summer and managed to never get her hair wet", which is partially bc if she got it wet it would ruin her efforts to straighten it. idk how I didn't realize that before 🤦‍♀️

but also, if I had a nickel for every time there was an airport scene bc a character named jo(e) was going to film a movie in New Zealand, and then a guy ran to stop his gf at the airport, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but its weird that it happened twice

JONAS/Jonas LA headcanons

I feel like this show had a lot of potential for a fandom but there's barely anything these days. also, I'm watching it again, so here

Kevin is straight, but he's definitely kissed a man "just to make sure"

their dad puts a pride flag up one June because Kevin joined the cheer squad and he doesn't know the difference. none of them correct him

if anyone asks Nick who his favorite sibling is, he says Stella just to piss off his brothers

(actually, though, he and Stella have a very sweet relationship. that's not even a hc, it's pretty much just canon)

Joe was one of those kids that was forced into soccer when he was younger, but he got bored with it

Their parents tried the same with Nick, but, at about four years old, he hated it with such a passion that they took him out of it

Kevin, however, was never forced into sports, rather he wanted to try everything. it didn't always go well, but he tried

Joe didn't even have contacts in the firehouse, he just couldn't see for shit

Nick keeps a diary/journal. none of his brothers know about it, because if they did, they'd inevitably read it

Stella resists fads as much as possible, instead relying on her own personal sense of style. that's part of what makes her such a good stylist

JONAS and Big Time Rush were put on different networks because the inevitable crossover would have been too much. Macy would have singlehandedly beat all four members of BTR at hockey. Stella and James would constantly be screaming at each other over... everything (despite agreeing on bandanas). I just...I mean, Nick and Logan would be the only pair having a fucking civil conversation.
