and i wonder if it's at all possible they actually at least had that option open (because it's like how they seemed to hint at buckynat and then they never ended up interacting so it was like MAYBE we'll do something with that and then just didn't follow through) because of how she looks exactly like cynthia glass instead of comics peggy like maybe it started with that and then the bits of catws (the slight acknowledgement of wrongdoing when she says "we rather mucked it up", howard and peggy's pictures at that base, the fact that they worked with zola) like there originally WAS going to be an actual captain america 3 before they went with the civil war storyline like

they absolutely could have gone there if given the chance and maybe also with having aou and agent carter post-catws and all the "REMEMBER THEY WERE DEEPLY IN LOVE, VIEWERS! remember that peggy influenced steve's choices and his morals, he definitely wasn't already that person long before meeting her!" shit, it would've been too hard to turn things around but man it could've been so good

and like not only would it be steve feeling betrayed, but also sharon, who presumably looked up to and learn from her aunt, who had been working for shield and thinking she was on The Right Side, not only crushed by the reveal that hydra was in it all along, but that this woman she trusted had a hand in it! and not only that, but that could absolutely have been a thing that brought steve and sharon closer n a believable way instead of a dumb kiss after two years of not interacting and saying "that was late" lol ANYWAY

smarter people than me could explain more about why this could or could not have ever been possible but yeah man has ANYONE written that fic like i know fic writers almost entirely write it like they would've gotten married if they could've and steve loved her as much as he loved bucky and all that so it's like. you never really get an accurate portrayal as it is, but ugh, i just want a change of pace in that regard

keep thinking how interesting it would've been if instead of a vague acknowledgement of peggy letting hydra into shield they would've actually committed to it and revealed she had been helping them the entire time, maybe even that she had been a double agent during the war and nobody finding out till decades later in catws like i would at least love to see this in fic bc how horrifed would steve be not bc she was the "love of his life" but because he did to an extent know her and trust that they were on the same side so to find out otherwise would make the discovery that he hadn't in fact stopped hydra as he believed even more painful

Hey! Has Chris ever called Sebastian ‘Bash’ in an interview or something? Because I see it quite often in fics. Also my heart will break if they rub Steve and Peggy in my face. I love Peggy, but I don’t like Steggy. I can’t see their romantic connection. It’s purely platonic to me. And I so badly wanted Stucky to come true in Doomsday, even if it was just mentioned by Bucky. Hopefully the Russos and the writers listen to the fans. Bye!

Hmmm, no, I don't think so! I've never heard that, at least, but I've also never seen in in fics, Interestingly! Pretty sure Chris only calls Sebastian by his full name, or Seb, or possibly Sebby once, but that's not 100% certain.

I am under no illusion that Stucky is ever becoming canon in any way, shape or form. That's sadly never going to happen. But it doesn't need to become canon as far as I'm concerned, I'd have just been happy with the two of them just continuing to be best pals and not being aggressively heterofied. That's literally all most of us ever wanted, but apparently not even that is acceptable 🙃 Anyway. Stucky is real to us, and that's the most important thing! ❤️

Best Friend Steggy who basically were attached at the hip since they were toddlers. They grew up together, constantly at each others houses. Parents teased that they were going to get married.

But they insisted not, to even prove a point, they dated other people but the dates and relationships never lasted long. Something was always iffy.

Finally, after a string of bad dates, they both just say fuck it and let's go on vacation, let's go on this cruise. They're wine-drunk and book it. Next thing they know they're on the cruise, in one cabin but two separate beds.

They join the gameshow and it's just as the video. They're fan favorites, they get everything right. People are LOVING them.

They get the honeymoon suite and drunk enough not to care, they fuck.

Then they kiss in public and Steve realizes his entire life, why the dates have gone wrong. They weren't Peggy. They weren't as cunning or funny or charming as her.

Peggy realizes the same. The reason her longest never worked, Fred wasn't Steve. He wasn't kind and sweet and always had a sassy answer or knew her every want.

He did not pass the orange peel test.

They kiss and it gets heated before they leave dinner and go back to their room to fuck.

That's how they end up going from best friends to lovers to engaged (with no ring) to the Captain marrying them and a whooooole makeshift wedding happens on the last day.

i feel like the het pairings i like have gone from being a lot more about the woman in terms of framing in fics to now being about the men. i've noticed this a lot in a couple of fandoms i'm in that there's been a shift to the dynamics where it's clear the man is every writer's special favorite guy. i wasn't sure if that was just the fandom spaces i'm in but i think it matches with the m/f decline and the way fandom is really heavily tilting towards men right now in ways it hasn't before (and probably explains a lot of the frustrations people have)

Oh, yeah, that’s absolutely the case. And it’s a relatively recent shift that you can track just through fan content on Tumblr - less than 15 years ago, you’d have ships (usually Marvel, but that’s just because everyone was on the MCU train) where the appeal was either “this super cool woman who we’re kind of in love with gets a boyfriend who loves her” or “they’re a balanced, equal pair” - plenty of Thor/Jane shippers, plenty of Steggy shippers, people who liked the platonic pairings of Mako Mori and Raleigh from Pacific Rim, or Max and Furiosa from Fury Road, or all variants of Finn and Rey and Poe, or Han/Leia shippers. 20 years ago you had entire fansites dedicated to the women from franchises like LotR or PotC, and fanfic and fanart about those women dominated search results. Even if the men were popular, the women had to be good too. Women did genuinely used to have way more time and attention given to them in fandom spaces, and now that’s just… not a thing.

And before anybody asks, yes, there was also a lot more overt misogyny. But I’m going to quote a comment I saw on Reddit:

I would rather know who hates women up front, and be able to avoid them and build community with people who like women and other M/M shippers who aren’t misogynists, than have to deal with everyone loudly insisting that nobody cares about women.

Echo for sure!!! I liked Wandavision well enough, especially the whole thing of bringing Evan Peters back as the other Quicksilver, I think that whole premise was super neat, but Echo is just WORLDS above that show in every way. It's got so much more heart, the acting is better, they actually respect the lead actor's background and culture rather than whitewashing the character (cough cough Wanda...), it's just such a better show all around.

AGH DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE!! I love them both so much!! I think I have to go with Harley though, she's been my favorite since the beginning <3

STUCKY! I've never been much of a Steggy fan. I think they're cute back in First Avenger, sure, but I don't understand the whole "went back in time for her" plot when that goes against all of Steve's character arc across the rest of the movies.

Thai food all the way!!! I do like Mexican food, but Thai food is just such comfort food to me (there's this local family-owned restaurant that serves Lao and Thai food and I swear it's my favorite restaurant in town, it's saved me from so many bad days lol)

Ooooooh another tough choice... but I have to go with hurt/comfort. I love them both, but there's something about hurt/comfort that really scratches that brain itch for me. Plus, I think hurt/comfort is usually a little more consistent - it's easy to find a good, well-written hurt/comfort fic, but I think some authors struggle with writing a genuinely compelling enemies-to-lovers fic.

i can't believe it is even a question abt who stucky shippers hated more when they ( and steggy shippers but mostly stucky shippers ) are the reason sharon was quite literally removed from the mcu. they butcher her ( no, not just character assassination, they PHYSICALLY KILL HER ) in almost all of their fics, they've spent years harassing her fans just for liking her, and some who have even gone to comics would rather ship grooming & pedophilia than even acknowledge she exists.

I definitely aim to! I've gotten worse at responding lately because I've been going through a lot lately but comments bring me so much joy and I love discussing my works with others so even if it's been a year I love to respond!

5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

I don't really do angsty/unhappy endings but I did write this drabble that is very angsty. For one of my longer fics, I would say in silent screams and wildest dreams just because while technically it ends well, I didn't perfectly tie things up.

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

Like all of them lol, but maybe Cherry on Top just because that one is a fluff fest from start to finish.

7. Do you write crossovers?

I've never written one and currently don't have the inclination to do so, but I'm definitely open to it if the muse ever strikes!

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Like no outright hate, but some that have been filled with corrections on either grammar, spelling or that have told me my characterization was "incorrect" but like whatever.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Like Lina said on hers, whenever the mood strikes and the kind depends on the mood lol

Not that I know of (and I hope it stays that way)

I have not but I'm totally open to it!

13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

The thing is, I have many long burning ships and the fire has never gone out on them. What If...? has really re-lit the Steggy flame, and the stuff I write is mostly all about them so they're always way up there, but I must give an honourable mention to The Doctor/Rose and also Percabeth is currently making a STRONG comeback at the moment.

14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Okay. So there's this Steggy fic. I started it years ago and I only have a few scenes written but it's definitely going to be a multi-chapter fic. The whole premise is that Steve is the only child of Queen Sarah, and Peggy is the prince's personal bodyguard. Problem is, Steve can't inherit the throne because it's a matriarchal line. When Queen Sarah has a health scare, she decides to take matters into her own hands and find her son a suitable wife and future queen so that her son can still maintain the throne in the event of her early passing. However, Peggy's not a fan of the options presented - for more than just the obvious reasons.

15. What are your writing strengths?

I think I'm good at characterization and getting their voices/dialogue pretty good!

16. What are your writing weaknesses?

Honestly I have to work really hard on my plots to make sure they're tight because very often there are holes in them or they don't tie up/flow as smoothly as much as I'd like. It's why I usually prefer to write the whole thing at once and then post it, because that way I can catch things/find my way out of the corners I tend to write myself into.

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I enjoy it! I use multiple languages in my life. Though the characters I normally write for don't really use multiple languages so it's something I would like to find a way to incorporate more, maybe in other fandoms/works eventually.

18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Unposted Star Wars (Han/Leia), posted the MCU (Steggy)

19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?

I'm not burning for it at the moment (I'm struggling to get much writing done recently for my main fandom) but I do think at one point I'd like to write for Doctor Who, since I love reading for Nine/Rose & Ten (or Tentoo)/Rose it but there's some things I haven't found that I would like to write.

20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

I do like all of my fics a lot, but I would say my top three in no particular order are:

Get In, Get Out (I'm very proud of my writing in this one)

The Untamed (I left a lot open as to what happens leading up to the very last scene of the fic and I want to keep exploring it sometime)

My Daughter's Keeper (I just adore this universe)

6. which ship fans are the most annoying?

*deep sigh* you know, I actually typed Steve/Peggy, and it's true, but the Steggy people at least have the advantage of having it be canon. even if it is not my ship and even if I really disagree with it as a ship (fine in CATFA-CATWS-CACW and even AC! completely messed it up in Endgame! not keen on What If, either!), they do at least have that going for them. for me personally it's the MCU BuckyNat people, because it's straight comics transferal and the ship has no basis in MCU canon, they interact twice when they're both trying to kill each other and in their other shared scenes they always have Steve between them. but they have so much fanmade merch (pins, I'm talking about enamel pins) and people just...take comics BuckyNat and transfer it over to the MCU and it drives me up the wall. like, they're not aggressive about it in the way the Steggy fans are, but it's everywhere if you're in the Black Widow side of the fandom.

8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about

like all of them, I disagree with 99% of people on 99% of things, you're going to have to get more specific here lol. (that's why a lot of my fic is deliberately contra common fanon, but I'm not so aggressive about it that it gets picked up on particularly often.) hmm, what's one I haven't talked about recently or that doesn't really show up in my fic.

oh! Coulson. I don't think this is something that's a major issue these days, mostly because we're well past the Avengers 1 point, but I still see it occasionally in people who never moved past A1 and it was very very common 2012-2014 or so, in that big burst of post-Avengers 1 fic. and that's that the common read on Coulson's behavior towards Steve in that film is that it's -- like, fine? a little dreamy-eyed and hero-worship-y and resulted in the A1 suit, but basically harmless, and Steve is, what, gently amused by it? a little uncomfortable, but again, basically harmless?

if you actually watch the movie Steve spends every single interaction he has with Coulson praying for the sweet release of being attacked by aliens, or perhaps murdered. his reaction to Coulson is so viscerally negative that once Fury sees it, he breaks them up and puts Steve with Natasha for the trip to Stuttgart, and then Steve never interacts with Coulson again. if Steve had reacted more positively to Coulson there's no reason that Coulson couldn't have gone to Stuttgart in Natasha's place; she's not fighting, she's doing hostage negotiation, plus Coulson is the one who has experience with Asgardians in the first place. it makes more sense for Coulson to be there than it does for Natasha to be -- except that Steve is reacting much more positively to Natasha than he is to Coulson, and Fury's smart enough to see that if he keeps trying to make Steve work with Coulson it's going to end badly.

currently watching: i am literally in the middle of watching the hunger games: catching fire right now, but in terms of shows, there's a few i'm (very slowly) watching with various friends. one friend and i are watching the loki show as it airs as well as the justice league animated show, another friend and i are slowly making our way through severance (i think we have four episodes left? i'm in love with irv and burt already), and another friend and i are rewatching avatar: the last airbender (we're currently on the ba sing se arc of book two)

last movie: outside of catching fire, last movie was anatomy of a fall which i saw earlier today and would DEFINITELY recommend. love a good courtroom drama. also going to see the killer in theaters tomorrow!!

currently reading: killers of the flower moon, and i'll probably start a hunger games or a percy jackson reread soon as they're both on my list

sweet/savory/spicy: sweet!!! all of these flavors are good flavors but i've got a major sweet tooth :)

current obsessions: idk if i have a singular one at the moment? i'm always thinking about star wars so i guess that but it's died down a bit recently, but otherwise it's mostly just all of my speculations and excitement for the new oscar szn movies coming out soon!!! oh and also christmas. i spend all of november and december obsessing over christmas, and i started a bit early this year (they were putting up the lights downtown today!! what can i say!!!)

Currently working on: fan wise? not much of anything! super busy at work with a lot of projects there but haven't had much inspiration recently to create, though due to previous christmas obsession i have been musing only in my head about 1) a sambucky fic based on a christmas to remember by dolly and kenny rogers where bucky works at a ski lodge and sam visits with sarah+the kids for christmas and they have like a lil hallmark movie plotline and 2) a kind of angsty steve centric steggy fic inspired by i'll be home for christmas where catws era-ish steve reminisces on the christmases spent with peggy during the war and some of the hopes for future christmases they never got to have. i will probably write neither of these

Now, never say never. That’s my motto. There’s still a good handful of WIPs I’ve never posted (and some I did, oops) that I want to eventually finish.

But this happens. At least to me, I don’t know about anyone else.

For me, ships and pairing are forever, but how I interact with them changes, and a lot of that has to do with what I get from writing. (Currently I’m working out a lot of trauma in that TLOU fic, it’s really off how things have come out I never expected, but that’s how it goes.)

But honestly, as the shows and movies and such resolve their canon, I either accept it and move on happy, or I accept it and move on sad.

For instance, milder and Scully. MSR. My TRUE first ship. My OTP forever and ever. But Chris Cater ABUSED them. Has season 11 helped a little with the trauma from seasons 8-10? Maybe. But to me, they’re happy and together forever. There’s only so many stories I can read and write about how perfect they are for one another.

GSR. Grissom and Sara from CSI. Canonically together. Happily ever after.

Belle and Rumple from Once. A fucking train wreck of writing, but still sort of together. Still a happy-ish ending.

Penny and Sheldon. Sigh. They were doomed from the start, but I don’t think I would have strayed SO far away from that fandom if the show hadn’t gone down hill fast. The show left such a bad taste in my mouth that I CAN’T revisit those characters.

Steve and Peggy. Perfectly together. In any time. Is there a world full of AUs I could explore? Absolutely. Do I need to? Meh. Not right now. The stories I want to tell with them are generally done.

I don’t know what the future EVER holds for me with fic. My brain is really fickle like that. But that’s also what I love about it. Fic is there for me when I need it, to read or to write. And I write for myself first, so yes, I do go back and read my own fic a lot.

And not that I don’t love my readers, because I ADORE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU. But I write for myself first. I’m too old, have too much to do in RL to stress over not finishing a fic or not releasing a chapter. Feedback is a gift BEYOND MEASURE, but the writing is the reward in itself.

So I’m not going, that’s the bottom line. I’ll always be a fan, I’ll always be around, but I make no promises about my writing, and I never have, because the inspiration is fickle, and it’s something I do to bring myself happiness, so I try to never stress over it.

Except for secret Santa’s. I stress over those. O_o

Fanfiction writer ask game: 1,12,15,29,40

1) How old were you when you first starting writing fanfiction?

My first ever fic is actually still online! It was posted in 2004, when I was 12. It's extremely bad! I took a break for a couple of years after that, but I'd been writing pretty consistently ever since.

12) Who is your favourite character to write for? Why?

I don't know that I have a favorite character overall to write for (I write in a lot of different fandoms!) but I definitely gravitate toward certain POVs, so I guess those are my faves. I have had moments of particularly appreciate the headspace offered by Ian Murray and Nate Carter, my Steggy kid OC from things left behind - they're just very calming presences to channel.

15) If you write OC’s, how do you decide on their names?

Haha, lots of different ways! If they're just a one-off character I'll often do name generator things or invest less time in picking the names, although occasionally I'll pick a person from my life to name them after. For longer-term OCs, I'll usually start by pulling up a list of popular names from the year they were born or the culture they're from and seeing if anything sparks. Once or twice I've renamed an OC during drafting because the name stopped feeling right.

(The real answer to this, as with so much else, is mostly, "idk, vibes?" 😅)

29) Do you have a story that you feel doesn’t get as much love as you’d like?

I've mostly settled into thinking that they all reached or will reach the people they were meant to, but if I had to pick, probably But a Walking Shadow, the sequel to my Steggy fic Woman Borne, maybe because there seemed to be a drop off of investment between them.

40) Do people know you write fanfiction?

I'm absolutely free with that info with online people. With people I only know irl, it's far more limited. My family is aware but I don't talk about it with them a ton because they don't necessarily get it. I've told my therapist about it (we've talked a lot about how my mental health stuff is impacting my writing and fan life) and in the past I've told a few friends in high school, a couple of friends in college, and one friend/coworker currently - almost all of the friends/peers that I've told are people I knew or strongly suspected were fic readers or writers themselves 😁

Vote Pepper because:

Stony shippers don't like her, and as such, in Stony fics,Pepper is portrayed as Type A to the extreme (i.e., a nag) in order to justify Tony not liking her. Other than that, she's a fairly popular character, with fans acknowledging that she defeated most of Tony's adversaries.

Even characters in canon respect Pepper and ship her and Tony together - including the other part of the mlm ship, Steve.

Pepper got to marry Tony in canon and have a child with him in canon. This is despite how the two were perhaps only briefly together in comics (the source material for the MCU, allegedly), where Pepper realized she would be happier with Happy Hogan.

Vote Sharon because:

Stony, Stucky, Romanogers, and Steggy fans loathe her. Sharon is portrayed as a conniving, meddling bitch/villain in fics. Multiple authors flat-out say that they need someone to be the bitch or villain in their fics and they used Sharon.

She got so much hatred based on Steve kissing her in Civil War in 2016 that Marvel Studios changed its entire plan for multiple characters. Endgame hammered in a plot about how Steve had not, in fact, moved on and abandoned everyone he'd formed ties with to return to a woman he'd never dated and who had actually shot at him after seeing him kiss someone else because this was deemed more romantic than him being with someone who gave up everything to support him. Instead of "He can do this all day," he retired with someone who never got a single line of dialog in the film because the filmmakers said he deserved to be selfish for once. The filmmakers can't agree on if he genuinely went back in time (TSA approved, but also suggests he groomed Sharon so she would be return the kiss when she was older) or if he created another timeline (TSA supposedly wouldn't allow it, unless Cap is an exception to this rule, too). Meanwhile, Sharon is in a non-extradition country, using her own name, dealing in art (his area of interest) which would make it pretty easy for people to find her if they looked. But with Steve needing justification to not look for her, Marvel Studios argues that she's not only a villain, but was always too weak to survive trauma with her morality intact (despite how we saw her do just that in the past). In short, the kiss led to so much hatred for Sharon that Marvel decided to make things incredibly nonsensical and confusing in order to justify it.

Sharon still gets blamed for making out with Steve even though they weren't related and the only people saying they were did so in order to break them up. Reminder: He initiated the kiss 2016. He asked her out in 2014.

Even Marvel Studios employees talk about how they wanted to kill Sharon off in ways that might have been too violent to show on screen but backed off because "Emily Vandercamp" is so sweet. That is... not her name. This was said unprompted in a promotional interview. And yes, one of the writers flat-out said it's because they ship Steve with someone else. To my knowledge, nothing like this happened to Gwyneth Paltrow/Pepper.

Emily VanCamp was shown Stucky fic in interviews and told how people prefer Steve with Bucky. All she could say was that she hoped people liked Sharon a little more after Civil War. One problem with that was that Marvel Studios had decided to turn Cap 3 into Civil War - taking her from a lead to another extended cameo. She only have 7 1/2 minutes in the entirety of the MCU, and only three of those minutes were spent developing a romantic relationship. To my knowledge, nothing like this happened to Gwyneth Paltrow/Pepper, who got much more screentime and time to develop a romantic relationship.

Interviewers quoted anti-Staron shippers (including from people who openly said they thought Steve should get with Bucky instead) on the promotional tour, and you can see in at least one of the interviews that Emily is trying not to cry. To my knowledge, nothing like this happened to Gwyneth Paltrow.

This is despite how Sharon has been Steve's main love interest in the comics since December 9, 1965. Despite being off and on for decades (three of Steve's other love interests were while she was supposedly dead, with at least one writer saying they only created the love interest because Sharon was dead at the time), the two of them have been together since 2005 - seven years before TFA came out.

So for this we have to think back to like... peak Avengers MCU era. I am sorry. Back when Avengers had just come out it was BRUTAL out there for anyone who didn't like Tony/Steve (Tony Stark, Pepper's canon love interest, and Steve Rogers aka Iron Man and Captain America). While the ship itself is like, fine, it got sour so fast because Pepper was demonized SO much. When she wasn't completely sidelined and ignored, she was a cheater or an abuser (??) or what-have-you in fics so the two men could get together. It's much better now and last I heard Pepper gets some of the love she deserves (bc we do love women in this house!) but oh MAN it was bad back then. TBH all MCU women were treated like garbage by the fanbase but she got the brunt of it because she was in the way of The Most Popular Ship. She was just too #girlboss I guess

Frequently villainized for being a canon love interest for Tony Stark. Often portrayed as a Nag, constantly bothering him about doing "work" for his "company" when he could be working on inventions or spending time with his love interest! Sometimes she just Doesn't Understand Him, inconsiderately pressuring him to stay out of being a hero instead of being who he really is; only the m/m love interest really understands him! Or maybe she's the aggressor, who took advantage of the power imbalance between her and her poor innocent *checks notes* boss in order to pressure him into a relationship he didn't really want where he was treated terribly, and only his m/m love interest can save him from her! Pepper deserves better!

Sharon Carter

she “got in the way” of stucky shippers, in the comics she’s like the love of Steve’s life 

When she first appeared she was unfairly treated by fans for "getting in the way" of the Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes ship. A shame because she's a really good character. I'd talk more about how unfairly Sharon, and her actress Emily VanCamp, have been treated by the fanbase and the creators, but that's a different story.

She and Steve Rogers were meant to have a romantic relationship, but the entire fandom and many Stucky fans dislike her because it wasn’t a good ship. I think she isn’t the best but she doesn’t deserve so much hate
