Like sure he’s a criminal but this time purely chaotic evil alignment, and instead of merely pursuing the thrill of the heist (and riches that come along with that), he’s after the power he could obtain. By winning over powerful allies and thieving important documents and more, he could become a lynchpin of the underground criminal world, where things simply don’t happen without his knowledge – and in some cases, without his sign off.

Lots more bloodshed and outright merciless killing, etc. in this AU.
