STEB HEADCANONS :>
Tumblr media
Uhhhm YEAH a few headcanons ive collected since act 3 came out in november 😸 enjoy Stebnation, or dont idk
This is very short and boring but its easier to write him in an actual scenario so TRUST IN ME MY UPCOMING STUFF WILL BE BETTER 😿
Content warnings: Established relationship w Reader, miiiild mention of knifeplay but its easily looked past. My opinion on his race.
NSFW marked this pink!
Tumblr media
• He cannot be any older than 30. I'd bet hes like 23-27. Idk how old u have to be to be a field medic/enforcer??
• Hes around 6'4.. Tall guy. ♥︎‿♥︎
• His frill thingies seem to lie flat to his face with "down" emotions, such as shame/guilt and sadness. But they point straight out with more intense emotions, like suspense, anger, exitement, worry. I love the way they flutter sometimes, as a subtle reaction. Like when they saw the Zaunites walking over the bridge to aid in the war, his frills were like "oh, wow.."
But also how they shot straight out with suspense when Ambessa wanted Caitlyn to b commander and everyone was banging their chests and stuff.
• I'd like to imagine his frills flutter a few times in a row when he orgasms, like the shockwaves of pleasure, but also post-orgasm. Maybe they go hand in hand with his nervous system kinda?
• His tip is the same color as his eyelids. His nails seem to be beige too.
• He CAN talk he just chooses not to if he feels he doesnt need to. Short sentences if he has to, small nods and shakes of his head, LOOKS. his face is VERY expressive, but thats more of a fact than a hc. body language is a key communication of his.
• Hes def always been the quiet type, ever since he was six he hasn't been big on speaking.
But sometimes you cheat the system.. Having your back turned to him when you ask him a question just so you can hear his voice, even just to get a little "mhm" from him <3
• On the rare occasion that he does speak his voice is kinda hoarse and gravelly from lack of use UGHHHH *squirts everywhere*
• hes a bit of a "bland" person, hes not boring.. Just a very simple man. He reads practically anything, carries your bags when you're out shopping, he literally just goes wherever you wanna go. He hangs over your shoulders when you do ur makeup, cooks breakfast most mornings, cleans when he feels its needed cuz he doesn't like messes, he'll have music on in the background tho and it's usually one of your vinyls that's playing, makes him feel closer to you <3
Simple things man. deeply emotional and caring too. Hes so kind and eager to help ugh MY SHAYLAA.
• hes a bit socially awkward, he doesnt have social anxiety, hes just kinda stiff and quiet around people.
• what the fuck does he do all day, really?
• I feel like he'd like dancing with his lover but he thinks hes bad at it so hes a bit awkward <333 put his hands around ur waist for him tho and he'd turn into even more speechless mush, everytime.
• Has a gummy smile thats really evident when he laughs so he tries not too, might let a grin slip in private tho c: and close mouthed chuckling/snickers.
• Loves being carressed, hold his face in your hands and trace his cheekbones with ur thumbs? FOLDS. Running your fingers up and down the fins at the back of his head when his face is in your neck? PUTTY.
• Speaking of fins, they continue down to to his lower back, shorter at the bottom but longest between his shoulderblades. He also has darker spots(scales?) Like the other fishfolk in Arcane on his outer arms and thighs. See this post of mine for a ref :)
• he drinks alot of water, like ALOT. his throat get dry easily cuz hes.. Yk, fish.. Atleast half-fish. He'll remind his partner to do the same, no matter your race cuz its good for u, he'll nudge u with a glass in hand and a small tug at his lips, or simply just leave it beside u as a silent reminder.
• Loves holding hands. like, he just LOVES it. He'll act nonchalant abt it but on the inside his heart is just blossoming 💗
Like imagine you're at a café or a bar or a diner WHATEVER and ur just sitting infront of him yapping abt ur day or smth ur planning while holding his hand over the table, and he'll just be buzzing with love, rubbing your soft skin with his thumb, feeling lucky his blush doesnt show (⁎˃ᴗ˂⁎)
• ABSOLUTELY ADORES kisses. He just finds them so sweet and intimate (cuz they are. But i mean like, he doesn't ever NOT think about it after kissing you, hes always locked on target y'know, he only sees you. He only feels you when kissing your lips, he'll kiss u like its the end of the world.. even if hes just getting up to go to the bathroom or something.)
• he just loves you so much, please kiss him, everywhere. Theres not a single spot of him you could kiss that wouldn't make him shiver (the good way).
• Steb is not much for hardcore kinks in bed. He doesnt "fuck", he makes love. In his eyes there truly isnt any purer form of intimacy than sharing something like that, giving away a piece of yourself to this person, your souls spiritually intertwined and yadiyadayada (it's true tho)
• He will go harder if you ask him to, hes not afraid to make you scream with pleasure. Also, bite him and hes a goner. Omg if hes like treating u so nicely in the sack you gotta bite down on something to contain yourself, pls let it be his shoulder, please leave pretty imprints of you canines all over his neck and chest. And hickeys too HNNGHH
Makes him groan so deliciously. Hips snapping into yours just a liiiittle more harshly than intended.
He'll bite you back carnally if you'll let him, Steb gets so lost in it sometimes..
• Hes open to experimentation tho, like if theres something you reallyreallyreally wanna try he'll be like 'euuughgghggggrhggh okay yk what fine', as long as he doesn't have to hurt you, not too much anyway. The idea of inflicting pain-pain on the person he loves makes him queasy.
• But if hes really fucking horny at some point, watching you take the front seat and play around w his gills, scratch at his chest, put a hand around his neck or.. Idk drag a knife gently across his skin while topping he'll literally whine, digging his dull nails into your sides, holding on for dear life.
• He loves being called petnames. Serious and silly ones. His favorites have gotta be Love, Darling, Baby and pretty boy.. All the sappy stuff. One time you called him 'Gorgeous' and his frills shot straight out for a solid three seconds.. If he already didn't speak, he'd be speechless then. CUZ HES A GORGEOUS MAN.
Or that one time you called him 'fishface' and he just slumped in defeat when he heard you giggle, knowing that one was gonna stick around.
You'll enter the kitchen where hes making something to eat and just go "Hey, Fishface! So--!" Continuing to yap and he just rolls his eyes with a lopsided, lovesick grin u cant see from behind him. From anybody else it'd piss him off, but it's you, So he lets it slide.
• he has the warmest and weirdly softest fuckin hands ever. They're never clammy or sticky, just nice and toasty, perfect.
• is the type to grab your hands in the winter and rub them if theyre cold, trying to transfer his warmth over, even if hes also freezing. breathing hotly onto them.
• speaking of winter he probably HATES IT. He gets SO cold SO easy, hes shaking in his boots fr. A frozen fishstick fr. Like jesus. But the palms of his hands stay warm for some reason..
adding to that hes def a sweater fiend.. He LOVES knitted sweaters and hoodies and TURTLENECKS. HE'D LOOK SO GOOD IN A TURTLENECK. TELL ME IM WRONG. LIKE A BIG, FAT, KNITTED ONE THAT GOES UP TO HIS JAW. Even better if you knit/crocheted them for him <33
• I headcanon that his dad is a human and his mom is a fish person cuz he has hair and rounded teeth which other fishfolk we see don't. We don't see any other fishfolk from piltover tho.. So maybe hes just slapped on a wig, peel-off eyebrows and filed his teeth down (which is INSANELY painful btw) to look "socially acceptable". I HEAVILY doubt that, when i rascism like that ever shown in Arcane, Piltover specifically? 🤔 Im not even gonna get into that whole Vastaya thing cuz i dont know enough.. I heard they can decide how many animal features they show as they please and that they're like deeply connected to magic and live really long.. But that isn't mentioned or even nodded to in Arcane so im just gonna pretend that doesnt exist lol sorry
• but ya he adopted alot of his moms fishy features but also human-ish hair and teeth from his dad.
•speaking of his parents, i do feel like Steb was raised kinda strictly? Idk i just feel like his parents would be very uptight and that stuck with him all the way into adulthood, he stands super upright and is well proper while on the job because thats just what hes been taught.
hes alot more relaxed at home tho, where he knows he doesn't have to be or look presentable for anyone, especially not you. he knows you'll love him even while standing by the fridge in pj's, with a fist full of grated cheese ready to be devoured at circa 2 AM.
• He was raised in a small village on the outskirts, right beside the ocean. Hence he still adores it and loves to go swimming with you, reminds him of his childhood yk c:
• He kinda gives only child vibes to me? Idk the thought of him with an older sibling is kinda cute tho,, i imagine they'd be like complete opposites. They hardly see eachother,, I don't feel like his family lives in Piltover. He had a "Mom, Dad.. I'm 18 now..! I'm moving to the big city. And there is nothing you can do to stop me." Moment, exept in a less verbal way maybe, moving to the city of progress and begining medical and tactical training, to help people. On both sides.
• Hes really good at origami, sometimes when hes at work and droning at his desk with nothing better to do he'll just grab a random paper and fold a little swan together. You've found multiple critters like that scattered around the house, some with faces drawn on, just two inky dots and a derpy smile like this : )
Once he made one of your favorite animal and left it on your nightstand before heading to work, you picked it up and examined it, smile growing even wider when you found the hidden lovenote that was written on it <3
It's now glued neatly into your shared scrapbook/journal along with many more, surrounded by dried flowers and red hearts <33

ERM SO- I like the thought of Steb with a "Yapper" S/O, and the idea of him shooshing them with smooches when they stay hyper and keep talking while they're supposed to be asleep makes me so giddy! So um silly short comic moment

Caitlyn's Strike Team Hiding Your Relationship at Work
Pairing: Vi, Caitlyn Kiramman, Maddie Nolen, Loris, Steb x Fem!Reader
Tags: fluff, established relationship, secret relationship, kissing, getting caught, sneaking around, marks, flirting, co-workers
Ko-Fi | Rules | Fandoms and Characters
A/N: Yes, I am including the fact that canonically two of these people (looking at you Caitlyn and Maddie) are absolutely abysmal at this.
Tumblr media
VI
Been known to be pretty sneaky when she needs to be, now if only she was better at holding back. Unfortunately, or not if you ask her, she can't help but tug you along when she's going pretty much anywhere and returning with both of you looking a little more disheveled than when you left. To say nothing of the way she proudly wears the marks and lip stick stains you leave on her neck and the collar of her shirt. She might as well shout it for everyone to hear that you're dating, that you're her woman.
CAITLYN
Good at so many things, has so many talents, but keeping your relationship a secret is not one of them. Not from the lack of trying, she tries really hard, she wants to be professional. Yet sometimes she forgets that she's not supposed to call you by that affectionate nickname or invite you into her office. She also forgot to lock her office door and you've been caught in the middle of a make out session, her legs around your hips, lipstick smudged, shirts untucked, too many times by now.
MADDIE
Keeping secrets is her job and yet she is terrible at keeping this a secret from her co-workers. Actually she blames you for this because you're too charming, too cute for her to keep her affections to herself. She can't help but smile and sigh dreamily when you invite her out for a lunch break, or when you compliment her, tell her she's doing good and tap her cheek affectionately. Indeed it's all your fault that she admits she loves you in front of everyone. Not that it was some big secret, everyone knew, she was like a lovesick puppy around you.
LORIS
Would have been great at it if he wasn't completely awestruck by you and wanted nothing more than to shower you with affection. Since he'd been there a long time romance wasn't exactly on the list of his priorities so when it happened the feelings hit him hard all at once. And he wasn't afraid to start showing it more and more the longer you dated. It started subtly enough, buying you lunch, advice from someone more experianced, flowers at your desk, protectiveness, then came the reveal, the handholding and the kisses.
STEB
Actually not that bad at keeping things on the downlow for quite some time. He is the mysterious, silent type anyways, everyone knew he had his secrets, you were just another one of them and one that he cherished the most. Very subtly he would nod his head towards the door when he wanted to leave or pass you notes, letters telling you that he wants to go home early and he would love it if you accompanied him. The only reason you were caught is because you fell asleep while holding hands on a night patrol.

feuilles d'automne
Steb x fem!Reader (Enforcer)
Summary: Amid your assignment to guard a fancy old folks' home in Piltover, you find yourself speechless when you stumble upon a pair of ocean eyes.
Word count: 3.9k
Tags/warnings: Mature and SFW, flirting, kissing, mild suggestivenes if you squint. Enforcer!Reader. Fluff in general, pre-relationship, first meetings, awkward situations, and I accidently created a side original character who I adore. Enjoy!
Sequel: après la bataille | My Masterlist | Read on Ao3
Thank you to everyone who's read, reblogged, and commented on après la bataille. I did not expect it to be met with so much love and support. Our precious fishman husband would be happy to know such a lovely bunch of people are his fans. You have all made writing these stories all the more fun and enjoyable 💙
Tumblr media
The scene before you looked like it could have been taken from an Ionian painting. Rays of golden sunlight peered through the spaces between orange, red, and yellow leaves of many trees around the courtyard of the Verona old folks’ home, a peaceful place that lay in the northern outskirts of Piltover, far away from Zaun and the heart of the city where the shops and the smog could cloud the horizon.
Your assignment was simple: make sure the elderly folks who lived their days out in that home didn’t get into trouble. You couldn’t think of anything less challenging to an enforcer hungry to serve, not that you’d complain. It was work, and it was quite the lovely setting. Standing on the porch of the main building, a large mansion built in white stone with a dark blue stone tile roof, its architectural style being some fusion of classic Piltovan and mild Ionian influences in the details and finishings, you breathed in the clean, fresh air. Your eyes would continue to scan the celestial beams of light bleeding through the trees and eventually finding rest either in the grass, cobblestone paths, or even the small glistening pond at the very center of the courtyard.
On the bridge that went over the pond was an old couple who, according to what you’d heard so far, had known each other since they were children—how beautiful to spend a lifetime next to someone, and to face one’s own twilight in a place as peaceful and beautiful as that, holding the hand of the person who’d been through it all with you. It was a bittersweet thought, but such a place evoked those emotions in you, and suddenly, you felt lonely, longing and yearning for a companion. Regardless, you remained the only enforcer manning your post, forcing yourself to tear your attention away from romanticizing the peace of the scenery you beheld to keep watch of the elderly in your charge, only to be met by—surprise—no signs of trouble.
And then you heard the whistle. You weren’t particularly fond of the high-pitched sound of your own whistle, a part of your gear as an enforcer to use as a first means to dissipate any trouble you encountered, or simply to call attention to anything of note. You weren’t exactly happy by the fact that the whistle you heard at that peaceful moment, now broken, hadn’t been your own. Your knowledge up until that moment had been that you were the only enforcer on duty at the courtyard, and you sooner would have contemplated the possibility of one particularly mischievous elderly woman sneaking it away from you and blowing it to cause her equivalent of a riot in an old folks’ home, than to face the possibility of a counterpart entering the scene to aid in your assignment. When the whistle faded from your ears, you looked over your shoulder.
Only half looking forward to the encounter and with little hopes of it being transcendent, when your eyes caught even a glimpse of the whistle’s perpetrator, you lost the ability to move. Any notion of how to blink or breathe seemed to leave you, and if you were turning your neck to allow your gaze to follow his figure, you were sure it was his doing, drawing your eyes to him like a magnet, rather than your own will. You had just started to feel the air and the sunlight sting at your unblinking eyes, and then you saw that his own were now looking at you. The golden leaves and grass of autumn faded for a moment into an endless oceanic hue that could make you feel immersed in the deepest seas far off the other side of Runeterra. And for the amount of detail you picked up on during that single glance, you could have sworn you’d been staring for ages already—the way his blue-green skin contrasted with the rich blue of his uniform and even more so with the golden landscape, the way his resting face appeared so unamused that it made you fear yourself unworthy of speaking to him, the subtle lines near his jawline that you found out to be gills, and possibly the most stunning of all, the delicate frills crowning his eyes that could nearly be mistaken for the rest of the markings decorating his skin.
And for all the distance in this Vastayan enforcer, his eyes seemed to become more round as he too looked at you, with his gaze visibly softening for a moment while the frills around his eyes moved in a delicate wave before coming to a halt. Your mind replayed that scene for you countless times, and for the way you felt your chest swelling, you figured it was a miracle you weren’t yet flat on the ground.
“Hark,” you squawked, failing miserably in your first attempt to greet him.
He raised a brow and didn’t do much more for gestures, making you wish you could blend into the nearest tree trunk and stay there.
“It is time for them to return inside, is it not?” He finally spoke in a thick, elegant accent, and the rich sound of his voice dissipated your embarrassment. His voice was baritone, deep and far smoother than you could have expected—for a moment you couldn’t believe it could really be coming from him. His striking physique alone was already too much to contend with.
“Y-Yeah,” you brought yourself back to stability, fidgeting among the pouches of your belt to pull out your pocket watch and glanced at the time. 4:01 exactly—yes, it was time for them to go inside, and the telltale hand of the pocket watch tilted slightly off the 12 mark let you know you had been in awe of this man for a solid minute, and you were already done for. The pocket watch may as well have been laughing at you. But you closed it up and put it back into your pouch, exhaling with as much confidence as you could muster. “Yes, 4:00 is the cutoff, and they’re expected to be coming back in to prepare for dinner.”
“Then why aren’t they coming?” He asked, glancing out at the old folks who continued to enjoy their time in the chilly fresh air and sunlight.
“Oh, I usually opt for a different signal,” you answered, taking a step forward and inhaled all the way to your belly. “TIME’S UP, COME IN FOR DINNER!”
Your six words caught the attention of all the elderly scattered in the courtyard and, slowly but surely, they all began making their way towards the porch where you stood, chatting pleasantly amongst themselves and their aides. It was hard for you not to giggle when you looked over at your new acquaintance and saw his round eyes gazing at you, his frills standing upright at the shock of such a loud voice emerging from you.
“I’ve been doing this for a week,” you flaunted.
“I can…” he trailed off for a moment as he flinched his gaze over to the courtyard again. “Tell… though even with your lungs, you missed one.”
You looked in the direction he was gazing, and you weren’t surprised when you saw the youngest soul in the entire old folks’ home getting ready to rebel against your command. The dowager Mrs. Evelyn McCawley, or Granny Evelyn as you’d come to call her, was a short little old woman who made one think of hugs and freshly baked cookies. That day, she was wearing a bright red sweater and her hair was packed into a neat low bun, and she was looking over at you and your new companion from the other side of the pond as though wanting to get your attention. You knew her well already, but you once again wanted to giggle at how your new partner must have been puzzled by her, unaware of the sheer amount of stunts you’d already witnessed from that woman.
“You won’t take me!” Granny Evelyn shouted and turned her back on you, charging as fast as she could (and that wasn’t very a fast walk, mind you) for a tree nearby.
“Is she well?” He asked you.
You chuckled. “Yeah, she does this. The high point of Granny Evelyn’s day is the courtyard, and that’s saying something, as you can probably tell from her charming demeanor. You’ll never meet anyone who has more fun with life than her.”
There was no need to watch over the rest of the elderly walking onto the porch, as any of them who needed help were already being guided by their nurses. You and your companion kept your gaze fixed on a whooping and giggling Granny Evelyn as she took quick, small little steps toward the tree until reaching the trunk, clutching her hands onto it, and lowering herself to the ground where she lay face down on the grass, her little frame illuminated by the rays of sun that escaped through the leaves.
“Can she get up from there on her own?” Your new companion asked, his eyes widening in concern.
“Nope,” you chuckled, unbothered. “Someone better check on her.”
“I’ve got this,” he said, starting his way in Granny Evelyn’s direction.
“Oh, she’ll be fine,” you replied as you picked up on the concern in his deep, luscious voice. “She just needs help getting off the ground.”
You walked after him through the dreamy courtyard and crossed the bridge over the pond—in other circumstances, your curiosity would get the better of you, and you’d make more of a play to spend some time with him in that romantic bridge, maybe finally ask him what his name was, but flirting while Granny Evelyn lay on the grass would raise more than a few red lights in upper command. Eventually, you both reached Granny Evelyn, splattered face down on the grass in a star-like position, and her back suddenly fluttered with a giggle.
“You’ve done this four times this week,” you said to her.
“And every time, I succeed in staying out here longer!” Granny Evelyn teased, her voice muffled in the grass.
“Well, unlucky for you, now I have help,” you tilted your head, and your companion took your words as his cue to get down on his knees to aid Granny Evelyn.
“Ma’am, I’m going to help you up now, if that’s alright,” he said politely, and authority swam in his voice. Granny Evelyn picked up on the unique timbre and rich qualities that floated to her ears, and yours as well, and she jerked her head to the side in his direction to get a glimpse of him.
“Oh?” Granny Evelyn giggled. “Oh, my! Yes, of course you can help me, mister… could you be so kind as to let an old lady know your name?”
He directed a smile at Granny Evelyn, one so discreet and smooth you had to tighten your whole body to keep from sighing dreamily at the sight, or whimpering at how ridiculously gorgeous he was. It was then that you were also able to notice his ears tilted slowly downward, though this was mostly concealed by his uniform hat, and when he gave a slow blink, you picked up on the third eyelid subtly appearing in the movement.
“You may call me Steb,” he said.
“Oh, please help me up, Mr. Steb,” Granny Evelyn’s eyes sparkled at him, and as Steb helped her back up to standing, her gaze shifted between you and him. “Look at you both, so young and bright and loyal to your city.” As she continued glancing at you both, you were able to look away from Steb for long enough to notice the childlike mischief that flashed through her eyes before she fixed her gaze on him again.
“Oh, you are indeed a looker, stunning in your own right!” Granny Evelyn then called you by your name. “Isn’t Steb handsome, dearie?”
You pulled to a halt, and your wide eyes inevitably drifted over to Steb, feeling heat rushing to your cheeks with no signs of stopping or hope of discretion. His ocean blue eyes met yours, and he was also visibly caught off guard by the question, and just as Steb was opening his mouth to speak, possibly to have swiftly dismissed the whole matter and returned things to normal, you just had to open yours.
“Yeah,” the syllable left you quickly, nearly in a whimper, and immediately you felt incapable of meeting his gaze, wishing a chasm would suddenly open in the ground beneath you so that you could use it to be transported far away from there.
“I think so too!” Granny Evelyn’s chirpy cheer diffused some of the tension, and she then turned to Steb. “She’s quite lovely too, is she not?”
Though you were trying not to look at him, you noticed Steb’s calm exterior faltered for a fraction of a second before regaining his composure, and his beautiful eyes were no longer on you.
“I guess,” he answered.
Instantly, you turned your head back in his direction, and against your will, your gaze narrowed at his claim.
“You guess?” Heat rushed to your cheeks again while your brows knit together.
“Woops!” Granny Evelyn said. “Dinner time, folks! I need to be inside!”
With a sigh, you forced your frustrations away and linked your arm in Granny Evelyn’s, leading her across the courtyard and back to the porch while Steb lingered behind the two of you, carefully following your pace in silence. At the top of the porch’s stairs, a nurse waited for Evelyn, and you handed her off with a polite smile, watching as the cheeky granny disappeared into the building. In a desperate attempt to distract yourself from the embarrassment, knowing Steb was still nearby, you pondered on how much of a menace Granny Evelyn must have been as a kid if her old age kept up that amount of spunk.
Now that the elderly were inside preparing for the rest of their evening, you were off duty. You ran out of thoughts and excuses to keep your back turned on him, and as if to emphasize that, you soon heard Steb pacing up the stairs, stopping just a couple of steps below you. You turned around and looked at him, no longer enraged like before, but with your guard up and nowhere near the same amount of dewey-eyed desire you had when you first lay your gaze on him. Steb’s eyes held concern in them, and you knew he was aware of how he made you feel. He then removed his hat, and much to your dismay, he was far more attractive without it.
“I’m sorry about that,” he said. “Would you forgive me?”
You crossed your arms and frowned, angling your body away from him. “I guess,” you spat, quoting him.
A sigh left him, though his lips seemed to curve in the hint of a smile. “I really am sorry. I know you’d rather have heard another response, and… I would rather have said something else.”
Some part of you wanted to admit you’d hoped he’d also, in some way, audibly confirmed he found you attractive. Mundane as it seemed, you felt something like that could make your day. You angled yourself toward him again, your gaze softening as you looked at him—confound how beautiful he looked even when he apologized. Holding his hat at his side, Steb’s gaze softened too, and his round eyes held a tender gleam that somehow made him seem like he was pouting. You thought of how different this look on his face was from the one with which he first walked on the porch, blowing the whistle. At the same time, you noticed his ears slowly tilting up, expecting your answer. But an instinct within you overruled whatever it was you wanted to confess to him, and intrusive thoughts of how everything could become complicated and how embarrassed you felt came pouring in, and you quickly turned around.
“My shift is over,” was the last thing you said, and you ran away from the porch.
You didn’t even want to think of the disappointment Steb felt watching you run away, and you wouldn’t let yourself ponder on how you’d blown it with him in a second. The week that followed that incident wasn’t any easier for you. Steb made attempts to talk to you and make things right, but you wouldn’t budge, and you kept your distance. Naturally quiet as he was, it seemed he wasn’t making much of your situation anymore, and nearly one week after the unfortunate event, you were convinced nothing more of note would happen in regard to the two of you.
One day, you found yourself carrying out your courtyard duty standing alone on the bridge over the pond. Things were as lovely and peaceful in the courtyard as they always were, and you were finally able to focus on the chilly autumn air that you loved so much, as opposed to recent events. Your shift was almost over, and you were looking forward to it being calm and uneventful, but when you heard steps coming onto the bridge—steps that were far too quick and well-placed to belong to an elder—you began to suspect something else was in store.
“Will you really not talk to me again?”
When Steb’s deep, smooth voice filled your senses, you could no longer deny how much you missed him. You turned around and faced him as he cautiously walked up to you at the top of the bridge, stopping a couple paces away from you.
“It’s not like you need much talking anyway,” you replied. “I’ve seen how quiet you are. Besides, you have your whistle.”
He gave a shy chuckle, and you noticed him exhale some tension away.
“It’s a start,” he said, mostly to himself. When you didn’t utter a response, he inched closer to you and tilted his head down slightly to one side, his bright eyes catching yours. “Hey…”
The softness of his voice paired with the beauty of his eyes were a lot for you to handle, and suddenly you didn’t trust yourself to resist him anymore. Your gaze softened at him, looking up at him with a tender gleam of hope not unlike what you felt when you first met him.
“Can I start over?” Steb asked you.
The chilly air began to blow stronger, ruffling the trees around the courtyard. You replied in a soft chuckle and playfully rolled your eyes, gazing out at the courtyard filled with elderly folks enjoying the day.
“We’re supposed to be on duty,” you said.
“Yes, but I’ve seen enough of this place to know the only person we should worry about getting in trouble is sitting up on the porch having a cup of tea,” he said as his eyes looked over at Granny Evelyn, who sat on a rocking chair smiling far away from you both. “I think it’ll be fine.”
With a soft laugh, you tore your gaze from the courtyard and looked at Steb, raised a brow at him, and shook your head smiling.
“I can’t believe you,” your eyes sparkled at him. “Fine, you may start over.”
Steb smiled at you, looking more handsome than you ever thought possible, and slowly he moved closer to you, meeting your gaze with flirtatious eyes.
“Hi,” was all he needed to say for you to know you were done for.
You laughed, bewildered at the power this Vastaya held over you, and at the fact that you had tried to push him away when it was clear that what was happening at that moment was all you’d wanted.
“Hi,” you giggled in return, feeling your cheeks getting hot.
A strong gust of wind powered through your silhouettes, blowing your uniform hat right off your head for it to land on the wooden floor of the bridge. You and Steb both let out small exclamations of surprise, and he bent over to grab your hat for you. When he stood up straight and held it out for you to take, you noticed that the gust of wind had blown a single, dry, golden leaf onto Steb’s shoulder. You looked up at him, loving how he still stood out incredibly in that autumn landscape, and you both smiled softly at each other. Before you took your hat, you reached your hand up to Steb’s shoulder and you gently took the leaf that had landed on him, casting it aside as delicately as it had fallen. But after the leaf was gone, your hand lingered on his shoulder, and tension built between you as you both remained there. Your smile had faded into the nerves that came with being so close to him in such a lovely setting, but it returned to your lips when Steb smiled back at you and his gaze softened in adoration.
You stopped thinking and let your hands guide you through the moment. You pressed your palm onto his shoulder and let it travel to the crook of his neck, and you pulled Steb down closer to you, perking on your toes, and you shyly kissed his lips. You basked in how smooth his skin was under your fingertips and how warm he was, and before you exploded into nerves, you heard your hat dropping onto the bridge floor, feeling both of Steb’s hands cupping your face, gently yet firmly, as he kissed you back. The shyness fled from you, and you kissed Steb more securely when you felt him reciprocate, sliding your arms around his shoulders and pressing your body to him—you didn’t give a Yordle’s mitten if anyone was watching or muttering about you, or if you were on duty. All that mattered was that, as you kissed him, you felt Steb smiling into your lips and his hands traveling down around your waist.
Your mind exploded in fireworks the longer you two kissed, and your thoughts jumped from possibility to possibility; all the firsts you could have with him, all the places you could hold his hand and all the ways you could explore his body and all the markings on his skin, but you knew that would come later, and at the moment you could delight fully in the feeling of him kissing you. Yes, you were absolutely smitten, and you were looking forward to much, much more of that.
From the porch, you and Steb were being watched with a warm smile. Evelyn McCawley had seen a lot in her lifetime, and each experience had taught her to view life with the wonder a child would have. Her eyes could no longer spot a butterfly from afar, but she could see you and Steb finally getting along all too well, and a smile lit her features in hope and subtle heartbreak. Seeing the two of you in uniform sharing a loving moment reminded her of when she was a young nurse charmed by a handsome soldier—she saw her and her beloved in the two of you. And with that same smile, Granny Evelyn pulled a wrinkled picture from the pocket of her purple knit sweater, gazing at the eyes that looked upon her from beyond.
“Young love, eh, Rafe?” She chuckled. “I hope those two have what you and I had, and I sure hope they have the chance to see each other through to the end. I do miss you, dearie.”
Granny Evelyn then put the picture back in the pocket over her heart, and she stood up from her chair, setting her tea on the little table beside it, pondering on what mischief she could possibly do now to bring you and Steb ever closer.

“please don’t,” you whisper, squeezing tighter as he begins to untether his hand from yours, “just… stay.”
in all his life, not even the portion with you in it, he’d never heard someone beg like that. a broken whisper, so quiet he barely heard it, yet threatening to bring his entire being to avalanche and shatter him completely. he tries to look at you but only makes it to your quivering lips and chin where tears drip down and land mercilessly at his feet. no weapon could hold a candle to them.
“i have to.”
he thought unburdening himself of you would be different but, instead, the moment he lets go he can feel it. the tiniest sliver of agony stings as it stretches and rips him wide open with fury.
regret.

Steb relationship headcanons!
A/N-I can’t be the only one who’s favorite character is a random fish with only one speaking line 🧍🏽‍♀️+ sfw as always + gn reader
Tumblr media
Despite being a man of few words, once you get to know him, he’s quite expressive
His gills twitch when he’s annoyed, ears perk when interested, and face turns little red whenever you’re around(the other enforcers never let him live it down)
He’s super attentive and has a knack for detail, you’ll casually be mentioning you wanted to try some pastry from a new cafe in passing and oddly enough your next date is there?
While not talkative he’s certainly never absent, especially physically
He’ll tuck your hair back, have his hand on the small of your back, is quick to offer you food if he’s eating, will gently move you around so he’s closer to the road part of the sidewalk, and always stands a little closer to you even on duty as an enforcer
He’s a stickler for plans and anniversaries, he never misses a date and makes sure to make time for you
As the war begins to dawn I can definitely see his collected demeanor begin to fade, and he’ll probably ask you evacuate in hopes that you’ll be safer
If you chose to stay with him he won’t stop you, but he’s not very happy about it
When it’s all over he’s just glad you’re both safe <3

Hello ♥️ I hope I am not bothering you but can I Please please have a imagine for steb from arcane like a steb was completely caught off gaurd by the reader who is from the undercity and a tall intimidating individual. Reader who just walk up to him while steb was undercover in a bar and reader bluntly flirted at him and ended up dating him in only 5 weeks. I don't know I just found it a little bit funny.... This fish guy had me on a freaking choke hold!!!! Aaaaaaaaaa!!!!! His only their for a few minutes on screen and I am in love with him!
P. S not my first language and I hope it isn't too confusing.
Thank you! And have a wonderful day! ✨
Coming right up!
Steb x Zaunite! Reader
Characters: Steb, Maddie Nolen and Violet "Vi"
Warning: One cuss word, but outside of that SFW.
A/N: I'm surprised by how many people really love Steb! I was not expecting that, but I'm loving every second of it!
Tumblr media
When Steb was sent on a mission to the undercity undercover to bring down an illegal business, he expected to get his job done.
And he did! But he didn’t expect to get a lover in the midst of it all.
When you first met him, outside of catching your gaze on a handsome fishman, you quickly realized he was a man of little words.
But what he lacked in dialogue he made up for in body language.
Especially when he blushed at your advances.
He could try his damnest to play coy with you, but there was no point.
The more you pointed out how beautiful his scales were and how his eyes held the ocean within them, the more he fell for you.
The attraction at first was mainly fueled out a lust, your time together only being colored by rendezvouses and sneaky links.
But before you both knew it,  lust turned into a genuine bond.
And the genuine bond turned into love.
In the beginning of your relationship, Steb tried to keep you at arms length from his duties in Piltover.
It wasn’t that he was ashamed of you- Not by a long shot!
He was just scared that if his friends and close acquaintances in the enforcer unit found out you were a Zaunite they could hurt you.
So the both of you kept your love under wraps, embarking on dates in secret.
It was fine at first, but after a while, Steb could tell it was killing you to watch other couples show their lovers off with pride while he had to walk on eggshells.
Luckily a pep talk from Maddie and the other enforcers in addition to yourself gave him the courage to declare without fear that you were his beloved.
Hell, even Vi is a huge fan of you two! She never would've pegged Steb to be with a Zaunite, but she loves the sight regardless!
Now the both of you hang around Zaun and Piltover, hand in hand, being the cutest couple in the twin cities.
Also the sexiest, but that’s a story for another time.
If you got any requests for Arcane, send them my way!
Likes and retweets are always appreciated! I love you all, stay hydrated and have a good day! <3

Protective Steb headcanon
Oh, our boy is so protective. Most of the time subtly, but other times…he makes sure people know their boundaries
Whenever you’re together in public, he always has an arm around your waist, on the small of your back, is holding your hand, has his arm looped with yours, etc. He is always in contact with part of you while you’re out and about together
If you go sit at a bar, he keeps a hand on your thigh, around your waist, around your shoulders, or on top of your hand at all times
If you visit him while he’s on duty, he can’t be seen touching you, and it hurts him. Physically. His heart aches to just wrap his pinky around yours, just the littlest of contact would soothe him. You tease him though, and make sure no one is looking before giving him a quick peck on the cheek before giggling and walking away, leaving him a flustered mess
At night, he always wants to hold you. He also always sleeps on the side where the door is closest to. If someone breaks in, they’ll have to get through him to get to you
If someone hurts you? He deals with them. He’s not a violent man, and he doesn’t speak much unless absolutely necessary (or if he’s alone with you), but he will yell and threaten them for you. If they had actually attacked you? Well, he’s not going to be the one leaving with bruises, he’ll be giving them out
Of course, he has special privileges to get away with that, being an enforcer and all (fuck the policeliterally in this case)
If you’re at a bar and need to go to the bathroom and it’s just the two of you and no friends? He grabs your drink and covers the top while escorting you to the bathroom. And he doesn’t move until you come out, and he walks you back to your spot
If you’re from the undercity and one of his coworkers makes a snide joke about you, he’s quick to shut it down and have them moved to a different company/group/location
He might be a medic and can treat your wounds, but he’s always insisting you wear as much protection as possible when you do recreational activities, such as riding on a hoverboard or jumping/climbing around buildings
If you’re walking together and he sees a drunken group, or a creepy looking person, or just someone/people that look like they might try something bad, he moves you to the opposite side and keeps an arm around you, and once you’re past, he has you walk in front in case they try to come up behind you
He’s very paranoid over your safety and does anything and everything he can to ensure you’re safe

☆ Steb Relationship Headcanons — Steb x GN Reader ☆
Genre: Fluff || they/them pronouns for reader || No warnings needed
Tumblr media
──────.𖥔 ݁ ˖˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗.𖥔 ݁ ˖ ──────
ᯓᡣ𐭩 He's pretty protective of you considering all he sees in his day to day job, so he always wants to be by you in some way. If you work together, he's very protective and makes sure no other Enforcers mess with you. If you work somewhere else, he visits frequently
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Doesn't speak; he uses sign language to communicate with you instead. Might've caused a little confusion if you didn't know any prior to meeting him, but he tries to teach you small gestures so you can at least know what he's saying
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Takes a side hobby in painting. He gives you a little unimpressed look when you jokingly suggest he start using watercolors
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Not the biggest fan of PDA. He loves to hold your hand, though. Linking pinkies, fully holding hands, an arm wrapped around yours, anything like that. Maybe occasionally a little peck here and there too
ᯓᡣ𐭩 When alone, it's a bit of a different story. He's not really the most affectionate, but he's much more open with you when it's just the two of you. His favorite thing to do is wrap his arms around you from behind
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Prone to smittently watching you do mundane things around the home. He loves seeing you in a comfortable environment, especially one that you share together. If you meet eyes with him doing so, he gets flustered
ᯓᡣ𐭩 He offers to tech you marksmanship, partially as a means to reassure him that you'll be able to defend yourself incase anything happens to either of you. He also just likes the quality time with you
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Has a habit of chewing when he's stressed that you've worked with him to manage. Instead of absentmindedly wearing down his gloves, pen, or really anything in his hands with gnawing, you help to calm him instead
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Absolute favorite sleeping position is his head on your chest. He loves hearing your heartbeat and feeling your arms around him, it makes him feel safe and comforts any worries
ᯓᡣ𐭩 One time he was trying to get your attention and when you turned you were nearly nose to nose with him. He jumped back and got so embarrassed he kept avoiding your gaze. He cringes over it now, convinced he embarrassed himself
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Generally gets less awkward as you spend more time together. He just wasn't expecting you to take an interest in him, seeing as he more often than not goes unnoticed by his fellow Enforcers

All good things start with coffee
Chapter 1 of Le Coeur
Series Masterlist | Read on AO3 | Next chapter
Chapter summary: On an otherwise typical day, the owners of the Coffeewick can't help but notice an enforcer standing guard outside their coffee shop.
Tags/warnings: Steb x Original Female Character, other OCs are in the fic as well. Canon divergence, flirting, pining, crushes, teasing. Just a cute intro chapter.
Word count: 4.4k
Tumblr media
On the corner of Alpine Road and Reverie Lane, on the northwestern quadrant of the intersection, there was a lovely building called The Coffeewick. It had been named by its owner long before she had even laid eyes on it, long before she—and her trusted business partner—turned it into the staple it became. Before them, the building that would go on to become the Coffeewick was already a catch. With its front facing south, it overlooked Bonan Plaza, one of Piltover city’s most renowned parks filled with trees bursting with life, benches to sit and enjoy life, fountains, even monuments to some of the City of Progress’ brightest minds. Shops, boutiques, even some apartment complexes were in the area, and before it became filled with life, the Coffeewick didn’t really fit into any of these categories. It was a little building that stood there, right on the corner, that could amount to anything.
When looking at the Coffeewick between its neighboring buildings, it certainly looked small. It had merely two stories—two apartments in the top story, each with one bedroom, a small kitchen and restroom and just enough room to make it the coziest home one could conceive. The roof of the Coffeewick wasn’t regularly used for anything other than the greenhouse, a valuable asset to those who lived in the little building, and in the remaining space of the rooftop where chairs and a table, and a series of warm fairy lights above the makeshift outdoor living room for the nights in which the Coffeewick’s two residents would decide to spend some time up there. The rooftop rarely saw the presence of outsiders.
But the ground level of the Coffeewick was the crown jewel, the dream that had been given hours of work and planning and love until it became a reality. It was a cute little coffee shop run by a human woman and a Yordle, both avidly passionate about their place in the world. The walls were a light cream color, creating a fitting canvas for the decor placed around it, mainly revolving around delicate green foliage and the same warm fairy lights wherever they could be placed, from the dark oak furniture to the edges where the walls met the ceiling, even flower pots dangling from the roof. Shelves were placed along the back wall where both owners kept a collection of their favorite cups, and at times, they added seasonal plants and decorations there as well.
These shelves, of course, ended where the counter began, the same place that originated the magic—and science—of the brewery. The counter was of the same dark oak as the shelves, tables, and chairs, contrasting with the floor that was a wood of a slightly lighter tone, balancing out the roof and delightfully bringing out the green plants and the lights, as though to emphasize the life that the Coffeewick had, that was breathed into it. The outer face of the counter was simple, with an intuitive sequence where a visitor would arrive, order, pay, and receive their heart’s desire.
But at the back, the main attraction was the coffee machine, designed and perfected by the owner herself throughout years of study, capable of brewing coffee in different volumes, temperatures, and consistencies, roasting and grinding beans, and it also contained an attaché for frothing milk. The machine itself took up almost half of the space along the back wall of the counter, after which there was an assortment of utensils, a small oven, a rack of syrups, sugars, and spices, followed by pastry racks, and finally a refrigerator. The logo of the Coffeewick was painted on the empty wall space above all the equipment, and above it was a hand-written menu on a chalkboard containing all the different beverages that were available for purchase as well as any pastries that would be available for the day. The menu had doodles of flowers and stars in any empty spaces, just for the sake of a little more magic.
The owner and head barista of the Coffeewick smiled gently as she poured steamed milk into a mug to create a piece of art with the drink she’d just brewed. A graduate of the prestigious Piltover Academy, Nea had dedicated years of study into the arts and sciences of coffee. What had started as a simple beverage to cope with long periods of school work evolved into the little thing that made life most enjoyable, and Nea harnessed her knowledge and dedication into designs, money saved, even the construction of the coffee maker that made all the beverages in the Coffeewick. While it was her dream and her vision, Nea hadn’t solidified the Coffeewick entirely on her own.
Nea’s partner, Blu, was a Yordle shorter than most and with the feisty spirit that was signature for her species. The little Yordle was well over a hundred years old, and she had seen many things in her time in the Yordle homeland known as Bandle City, from magical dreamscapes to portal catastrophes. A century of being a knitter and a tidal wave of adventures that followed made Blu long for seeing more around Runeterra, and when she parted for Piltover, she had nearly nothing to her name, and no hopes of amounting to anything in the near future. That had changed when she met Nea.
On that fairly typical day, while Nea focused on brewing the drinks that the customers were ordering, Blu exited the back room of the Coffeewick holding a tray of fresh pastries. She placed it on the pastry rack at the back of the counter and glanced over at Nea on the other side.
“This batch of Poro Cookies is the last one of the day,” Blu called.
With her concentration unbroken, Nea nodded in understanding at Blu’s statement. Making the appropriate twisting motions with her wrist as she poured the milk, Nea finished the foamy drawing of a swan on the surface of the drink she’d created—a traditional flat white made with a slightly darker roast than usual, one of her favorites. She called the customer’s name and set it on the round wooden surface at the edge of the counter where customers picked up their orders. Letting out a little exhale of satisfaction, she tucked a strand of her short black wavy hair behind her ear and moved onto the next order.
On her side of the counter, Blu tapped the knee of the young man who was working the cash register. Like all the additional employees of the Coffeewick, he was a student at the Academy in his last semester who worked there to earn some money and experience pre-graduation, a need for many like him whom the Coffeewick also wanted to help. Once he graduated and got a better job, he’d move on and let another student take his place, and so on. He, like the other part-timers, enjoyed working at the Coffeewick—it wasn’t just the peaceful ambience and delightful smell of coffee that made it shine, but the feeling of having a safety net that it emulated in him and his fellow Academy students was rivaled by only a few other initiatives in Piltover.
“You’re free to go,” Blu told him. “I’ll take over until Lily shows up.”
He looked down at Blu and smiled as he bent over and pulled a stool for her to climb on. “Thanks, I just need to talk to Nea and then I’m off.”
“Yup, take care,” Blu said as she got on top of the stool and was finally able to reach the cash register to keep the line going. “May I take your order?”
The next person in line was a lady who looked like she was in her sixties. She was well-dressed in black and white clothes that looked expensive, and she crowned her head with a black hat that had a large, poofy burgundy feather adorning it. The lady was expecting a human to take her order—you know, the same one she’d just seen behind the cash register—but instead, she was met with a little Yordle. Yordles weren’t all that common in Piltover, even if recent years had brought more of them to the city, so it was still a surprise for a Piltovan citizen to come across one. And this one in particular, with her blue fur and round brown eyes, her short brown hair in a bob cut, her round ears that poked from beneath the hair and her round little snout, knitted beige sweater and brown knit cowl, this little Yordle was just so round and fuzzy that it looked like a child’s teddy!
“Yes, I’ll have a… uh…” The lady trailed off, her eyes sparkling as her demure smile expanded into a grin from ear to ear. “I’m sorry, you’re just so cute!”
“Ma’am, this is a coffee shop,” Blu replied in a kindness-infused deadpan, as though her words were previously rehearsed. “If you wish to express appreciation for the staff’s cuteness, I suggest doing it in the form of a generous tip.” Blu gestured at the little jar next to the cash register machine and directed a bright smile at the lady.
“Of course, of course,” the lady said, pressing a hand to her cheek as the other one looked through her purse and pulled out a hefty coin, proceeding to add it to the jar. “Here you go, dear. Now, could I please have the toffee caramel cappuccino to go?”
“Yes, ma’am, and thank you for the tip,” Blu smiled and proceeded to charge the lady for her beverage. “Toffee caramel cappuccino to go!”
“Coming up,” Nea called from the other side of the counter as she was finishing up the next milk drink in the queue.
One more coffee was done and delivered, and it was time to go for the next. This next drink was a large dark brewed in the Moka method—that one always took longer to brew, so Nea set up the Moka to brew with the cup underneath it while working on the next one in parallel, a simple, straightforward latte. And as Nea divided her focus between the two drinks, she was able to see from the corner of her eyes that her cashier was approaching her timidly.
“Um… Miss Nea?” He said.
“What can I do for you, Donnie?” Nea responded, glancing over at him through her glasses before focusing on steaming milk again. “Your shift’s over, right?”
“Yes,” Donnie replied, feeling a tad less tense. “Listen, um… I was wondering, and I’m sorry for not asking sooner, but… finals are coming up, and I’ll need to buy a whole bunch of supplies for my projects. I need my paycheck early, maybe not even the whole check, just whatever’s appropriate for the days since my last one… could you maybe…?”
Keeping the cup of milk at a steady angle for it to continue steaming, Nea looked at Donnie again, her big brown eyes soft on him. “Oh, I remember finals seasons. The sooner you can get your supplies, the better. Stores run out quickly.”
“Yes, that’s what I fear,” Donnie sighed. “And now that I pay for all my food and I got the bright idea of adopting a dog—”
Nea let out a smooth, delicate laugh, stopping Donnie’s nervous rambling in its tracks.
“It’s okay,” she said. “You don’t need to be afraid to ask me for things you need. The paychecks are in the backroom, just let me finish steaming this milk and I’ll go get it.”
Donnie directed a bright smile at Nea. “Thanks so much. You’re saving my life right now.”
“Not a problem,” Nea said, putting down the milk and quickly cleaning the steamer with a damp cloth and a second of blowing pure steam onto an empty cup. “Be right back.”
Having mastered the art of wandering around her coffee shop, Nea went to the back room for the paycheck and returned to see Donnie finishing up and delivering the drinks she left paused. She smiled at the sight—acts of kindness like that one would always live in her memory. She then walked up behind Donnie and handed him the envelope with his check, and the curve on her lips widened slightly.
“Thanks for covering those drinks,” Nea acknowledged. “Here’s your check, and if you need a raise, just let me know.”
“Thanks so much, Nea,” Donnie unconsciously gave a slight bow in her direction. “I don’t need the raise, I just really needed this to get all the stuff I need.”
“Alright, well, good luck with all your finals,” Nea smiled at him.
“Thanks!” Donnie cheerfully expressed his gratitude again, and he pranced his way out of the Coffeewick to leave Nea to continue her work.
Nea’s eyes lingered on Donnie as he made his way out, her mind temporarily wandering on a number of different things ranging from her own memories as an Academy student short on cash and the writing of a mental note to motivate Donnie—and the rest of the intern staff—more over the next few weeks. But just as Donnie’s figure was disappearing into the crowd of people outside, her gaze got caught in a blue uniform that shielded teal skin. It was a male enforcer whose profile faced Nea, and his posture was strictly straight, almost regal, with his fingers interlaced behind his back. The sight was fairly standard except for the obvious fact that this enforcer was a Vastaya, and the sound of Donnie walking out of the Coffeewick as well as his figure walking past the enforcer caused him to angle his body enough for him to fully face the Coffeewick’s entrance.
When he did, the enforcer's gaze traveled through the entrance of the Coffeewick and landed on Nea only for her to notice it was the most beautiful shade of aquamarine. With wide, brown eyes unable to hide their appeal at the most intricate details they were able to pick up on even in that second-long glance, from the gills above his jawline to the delicate fins that framed his eyes, and the way his angular features looked so incredibly soft, Nea stared back at him and felt her surroundings fade to white noise. Though as the door of the Coffeewick closed itself and cast a sheet of wood and glass between her and the enforcer, Nea noticed him turning around and regaining his post standing watch outside.
Even after Nea was no longer able to see that striking ocean gaze, she remained motionless as she replayed the image of it in her mind. Seconds passed her in her daze, forgetting the queue of orders and the smell of coffee that would, on any other day, be the thing to entrance her senses. Her stare stood focused on the blue uniform as if she could telepathically beckon him to turn around again, maybe inspire him to come inside and order a cup or two, but no such thing happened.
"Hey, head barista," Blu called from the cash register. "Get brewing!"
"Sorry!" Nea gave a hop, startled out of her daze, and she got back to brewing and filling orders as if nothing had distracted her in the first place.
Blu was just about to get off her stool with which she covered the cash register since Lily, another Coffeewick worker, had just arrived. As Blu was moving her stool over to the side, her gaze wandered over to Nea with an eyebrow raised, puzzled by her partner's sudden—and uncommon—lapsus.
"What was that about?" Blu asked Nea.
"Oh, nothing," Nea replied as she added whipped cream to the toffee caramel cappuccino she was finishing.
"Your cheeks are burning red," Blu deadpanned.
"Don't you have a tray of cookies to take out of the oven?" Nea glanced over at Blu.
"And now you're getting defensive, which means not even you understand whatever's got you in a pickle," Blu climbed onto a chair behind the counter. "You were looking outside, what happened?"
"Nothing," Nea said.
"A ghost from your past?" Blu teased. "An ex lover you left in the dead of the night?"
"No, and I've never done that," Nea answered as she delivered the beverage and headed toward the coffee machine to brew the next. In that time, Blu looked through the glass doors and windows over to the outside, and her Yordle eyes were able to catch irregular sights far quicker than others.
"Enforcers? Out here?" Blu wondered.
"Yeah," said Nea.
"Why?"
"I think I read in a newspaper somewhere that it's just a council initiative," Nea replied almost cautiously. "Just to keep people and businesses safe, etc, etc."
"So... if you're not a fugitive but you're nervous about an enforcer at our door-" Blu stopped herself and giggled. "Ooooh, I see. "
"No, you don't," Nea tried to dismiss.
"Poppycock," Blu laughed and stood on her paw toes, trying to get a look at the enforcer. "Woah, he's green!"
"Blu!" Nea scolded.
"Hey, come on, you just shouted the color of my fur," the Yordle teased and looked at the enforcer again with more attention. "What do you know? A Vastaya. Didn't know you were into that."
"Cut it out," Nea couldn't help but laugh, albeit nervously.
"Aww, you have a little crush," Blu smirked.
"Hey, I know that look in your eyes," Nea answered. "You may as well have little flames in them."
"Do you want me to go out there and tell him you like him?" Blu said with that same look of mischief in her teddy-like face.
"What I want is for you to get off my case," Nea frowned.
"No you don't, you love me," Blu crossed her arms and frowned back.
"Right now, I could think of a few other emotions I feel towards you," Nea smirked.
"You'd be lost without me," Blu challenged.
In response, Nea proceeded to do the mature, grown-up thing and stuck her tongue out at Blu. The Yordle instantly stuck her tongue out too in response and, after the two shared a laugh, Nea paused the drink she was brewing to help Blu off the chair.
"Fine, I'll go somewhere else and leave you to pine for your hot Vastaya enforcer man on your own," Blu laughed, looking back up at Nea over her shoulder. "Hey, here's an idea. You should totally make him a cup of coffee and take it to him, and be all girly and googly and all like 'thank you for your service' or something like that."
Nea straightened up, pausing in her tracks. "That's not a bad idea."
"What?" Blu's teasing became concern as she turned around and faced Nea fully. "Hey, I was kidding."
"No, you're right, that would be perfect!" Nea's face lit up with a smile. "Let me finish up these next couple of orders. Do you mind taking over the queue while I head out there?"
"You're serious," Blu stared blankly. "You're actually gonna do it."
"After these, it's just two lattes, one for here and one to go," Nea instructed. "It shouldn't take me any longer than that. What should I take him? Latte? Cappuccino? Flat white? Black coffee? Creamer on the side? Sugar?"
"Whatever Nea, just pick," Blu grunted as she pushed the chair over to the coffee machine, figuring she was gonna need the boost if she was to take over for Nea. Nea walked over to help with the chair and put Blu up on it again, earning her a frown from the Yordle. "I'd go with a Red Eye, maybe you'll scare him off for good."
"Oh, come on, don't be like that," Nea grinned. "It was your idea."
"If this is your way of teaching me to shut up next time, it's working," Blu deadpanned.
"You don't mean that," Nea smirked. "You love me."
"And now I'm eating my words from earlier," Blu said. "Yippee."
Despite Blu's protests, she obliged and brewed the next couple of drinks in the queue while Nea finished up her current orders. As for what beverage she would deliver to the enforcer, she leaned back on her experience and went for the most balanced recipe for a latte she knew, one with good coffee flavor and creamy milk that added just the right amount of sweetness—perfect for nearly anyone who favored either the sweet or the bitter side of the craft. Nea was careful in her movements, deliberate in each part of the process from the milk steaming to the pouring of the espresso, and even if she was placing it in a disposable cup with a lid, she still made a delicate flower latte art with the foam on top—a heart probably would have been too obvious, but no small part of Nea wanted to make it that way. The flower seemed like a good option for now.
With the beverage done, she reached for a packet of sugar, a wooden mixer, and a couple napkins, Nea walked out from behind the counter and made her way across the Coffeewick, heading for the door. She stepped outside, relished in the chilly fresh air, and walked forward with her gaze set on the enforcer.
She stopped. It only dawned on her then that she didn't know what she was going to say, but on top of that, she was about to make a total fool of herself for all she knew. She'd had so much fun brewing the coffee and thinking about the perfect outcome that now that she was out there, part of her wanted to run and hide. He hadn't turned around yet—if she was quick, she could abort the plan and get away with it, have that latte herself. It was sure to be a good cup of coffee, she'd made it, after all. Nea became lost in her thoughts of how she could use a good latte right about now to regain a grip on reality, and at that moment, the enforcer felt her presence behind him and calmly turned around.
His aquamarine gaze nearly ended Nea. Up close, she was able to see much more of the detail in his physique. The fins that framed his eyes were paired with markings of a slightly lighter shade of green, and the inner corners of his eyelids as well as the sides of the bridge of his nose adopted a shade that more closely resembled human flesh. The helmet that he wore concealed his eyebrows and any other details above, but even under it, Nea could observe the shape of his ears pointing upward. In the sunlight, the golden details of his enforcer uniform appeared to be glowing in contrast with the rich blue color of the fabric, and aside from being motionless, Nea was now also rendered speechless in the presence of such beauty. Even if she wanted to appear cool and collected, she knew right then that she would miserably fail at any attempts to do so.
As he looked at her, his gaze appeared to soften, and the detail that dealt the final blow for Nea and made her weak in the knees was the way the fins around his eyes flickered, like a wave from inside to out, as his eyes widened slightly in attention. When he blinked, Nea noticed he had a second eyelid acting as a membrane that closed on a horizontal plane underneath his main eyelids—ust another thing that added to Nea's inability to speak—and he remained quiet, expectant of whatever she was about to do, until his gaze finally traveled over to the cup of coffee she was holding.
He met her gaze again. "Can I help you, miss?"
God, Nea thought to herself. Even his voice was irresistible, it was almost unfair. It was deep and rich, and when he spoke, he had a thick, elegant accent that made her yearn to hear him endlessly. Thoughts and insecurities rushed through her mind, things like how could someone that gorgeous still be single, or how could someone as beautiful as him pay attention to her, but she was surprised at herself for being able to put those intrusive thoughts aside and instead lifted the cup of coffee, showing it to him. As for what she would say—and she had reached a point where she really should say something—Nea opted to use the very words Blu had suggested in her earlier mischief.
"Thank you for your service," Nea said softly and offered the coffee to him.
His gaze softened even more, and slowly, he reached for the cup, almost hesitating to take it from her. He met her eyes again, and the hint of a smile curved her lips.
"It's not necessary," he uttered, his voice much softer than it had been before.
"Oh, I know, I just..." Nea trailed off, unable to stop smiling at him. "I wanted to."
Finally, he gave her a fuller smile. "Thank you."
Nea's smile grew as well to the point where she nearly giggled. When he took the coffee, Nea used her free hand to tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear, averting her gaze from him before meeting his eyes again. Lost for words again, Nea gave a little nod and turned around, walking back towards the Coffeewick until she eventually disappeared into it.
Inside, Nea remained for a second at the doorstep smiling at herself, and then she went back behind the counter where she was needed. There, Blu was just finishing up a couple of orders, and as soon as she laid eyes on Nea, the spunky grin returned.
"Well?" Blu said. "Did you crash and burn and stumble with your words?"
"No, I..." Nea smiled. "I actually think that went really well."
"What's his name?" Blu asked.
"Not a clue," Nea replied, her smile still firm in place.
Blu, in turn, facepalmed. "You're hopeless. Alright, I'm done here. Take over your coffee bar."
"He is so pretty," Nea pouted with a hand over her chest. "He is seriously so pretty I kind of want to cry."
"And yet you don't know his name," Blu mentioned.
"Yeah..." Nea's smile faded a bit. "I messed that up."
"I'll let it slide," Blu smirked. "People make dumb mistakes when they're in loooove."
"Oh, be quiet, you," Nea chuckled.
Blu walked off in the direction making indiscreet kissing noises the whole way until she disappeared into the kitchen. In the meantime, Nea got back to work and noticed the way her hands were trembling, but she figured she would still be able to make coffee even with a shaky hand and rosy cheeks.

“Were you followed?”
He shakes his head.
“Are you sure?” You asked with narrowed eyes, wagging a finger at his chest, “Like 100% positive?”
Steb sighs. Humoring you, his scales flare as he turns around with the roll of his eyes. Turning back, he shrugs his arm out as if it was proof enough. The pointed, sardonic look he shot you made you cross your arms.
“I don’t appreciate your tone, mister.”
A mixed noise leaves his lips as they tilt up into a genuine smile.
“And now you’re laughing at me!”
This time when he shakes his head, his eyes sparkle with adoration and mirth. It warms your heart to know exactly what he’s thinking now. You’re crazy, he wants to say. Embracing your debatable madness, Steb holds his arms out and you’re crashing into him instantly, hugging back tightly.
You sigh into his chest, content, “I missed you too.”

Steb x Enforcer! reader hcs
A/N- the other four Steb fans are gonna love this + gn reader + sfw as always!
Tumblr media
I feel like with him it’s definitely a friends/co-workers to lovers relationship
At first, because you’re an enforcer and part of his team, he makes sure to get to know you-while quiet he still wants to maintain good relations with the people he’s constantly working with
Although as time passes he finds he’s a little more interested in you than he previously believed
Of course, not ready to accept his feelings he chalks it up to just wanting to get to know a coworker better
However Maddie and Loris notice how he doesn’t deny going out for drinks after work whenever you’re around, how most team shifts he assigns are with you, and how his green pallor seems to redden a bit when you train together
He gets used to seeing you, training with you, enjoying your company
He finds himself increasingly worried when you go missions without him, his mind constantly wandering back to you and your safety, his stoic demeanor diminishing
With his no-nonsense attitude, once he realizes his feelings he immediately tells you
While a man of few words, people can tell you’re together in that he’s very intentional with gestures and affection
He’ll have his hand on the top of the chair your in often peeking over your shoulder to see what you’re doing, he’ll pull you close in busy crowds so you don’t get separated, and a hint of pride enters his neutral tone whenever someone asks about you
Sometimes he’ll even bemusedly poke you with his baton and everyone else is just shocked because of you how serious he normally is
You make him feel lighter and more carefree <3
