Talestober 2023 Day 16: Reunited

"Eizen..?" I say his name experimentally, like an answer to a question I wasn't ready for. Seeing his real face, shed of its scales and cruelty, feels like a dream when all I've known recently are nightmares. In my dreams I had words for him, admonishing, teasing, in control, but the only thing I can muster forth now are big, fat, ugly tears.

They're enough for him. He pulls me into a hug.
