As Mingyu entered the house, his eyes naturally scanned the room for you. He knew you were here somewhere, and he was excited to see what you had decided to wear. Knowing you had been agonizing over the decision for over a week.
He peered around the house, eyes drifting from costume to costume as he began to fear he may not be able to recognize you. His heart suddenly jolted when he spotted your familiar smile and he grinned at the sight of you as his heart started to hammer in his chest.
When he saw your eyes land on someone approaching you, as a smile crossed your face, he felt his chest clench as jealousy coursed through him.
He had almost forgotten him. The guy you had gone on a date with a few days ago, who apparently you liked enough to come to the party with.
His fists clenched at his side as he watched you for another moment.
He had no one to blame but himself. He was too afraid to confess his feelings, so he was alright with just being around you, just being your friend. He failed to think of the possibility of you meeting someone.
Thinking back on the times he almost confessed or flirted, only for you to play it off a as joke made his chest tighten. Why hadn't he been more forward?
Mingyu felt himself faltering as he turned to walk towards the others, but paused at Jeonghan's stare. He motioned his head towards you in encouragement and Mingyu looked back over at you, letting out a soft sigh.
He wasn't sure if he would be able to hide his feelings if the guy you were with was around, so he waited, watching you almost constantly. Waiting until you were alone again, Mingyu took the chance to approach you. When you spotted him, you grinned and waved happily, making his chest grow warm as he grinned at you.
"Hey, I was wondering where you were!" You greeted.
He chuckled softly, "Yeah sorry, I didn't realize there would be this many peope here."
You nodded in agreement as Mingyu's eyes raked over you. You had gone for some form of monster with horns and sharp teeth. Your wardrobe mostly consisted of torn clothes, and you were covered in fake blood.
He grinned as he caught your eye, missing the almost bashful look you held as he studied you.
"You look good!"
You grinned down at your costume, "Gross right?!" You asked cheerfully and he shook his head.
"No, I meant, like, you look good."
As you seemed to register his compliment, you looked down at yourself again and Mingyu almost cringed at himself.
You looked back to him and chuckled in amusement, hoping your sudden nervousness at his compliment was not obvious.
"I'm covered in fake blood...?"
"Yeah, and?"
He was almost startled at out easy it was the say these things with a little alcohol in his system. He wasn't drunk, but it was just enough to get rid of the anxiety he had been feeling earlier.
You giggled again and Mingyu noticed how bashful you seemed this time. He felt his heart flutter, wondering if you were finally realizing what his actions meant.
You wanted to believe he was flirting, that he was hitting on you. It was something you had wanted for ages. To finally know for sure if he liked you. But you knew he had at least one drink, and you were afraid maybe his thoughts were too foggy for him to be fully honest.
You saw Mingyu's face drop a bit and you turned to see your date approaching. You felt your heart drop a little, as you weren't sure how Mingyu would react. Though, part of you wanted him to be jealous. To give you a reason to really believe him.
You smiled at your date as he appeared beside you and Mingyu felt his chest tighten again. If he had been completely sober, he would have been able to tell your smile wasn't genuine, but to him at this moment, it hurt him to see.
As your date and Mingyu awkwardly introduced themselves to each other, you felt your heart drop as Mingyu excused himself and left. You watched him go with a tight chest before you turned your attention to your date again, wondering if there really was no meaning behind his previous words. Maybe he was just being classic friendly Mingyu.
Much to Mingyus merit, he had no more drinks during the party, and sobered up fairly quickly. He tried to enjoy the party, and occasionally got distracted by the group and had fun. But when he would spot you every once and a while his heart would immedietely sink. Your date never seemed to leave your side.
A few times he thought you seemed uncomfortable, or even irritated, but then the next thing he knew you were smiling or laughing.
When he saw you head out onto the patio by yourself a while later, he took the moment to go see you.
When the door slid open he saw your head spin towards him, your face quickly turning to one of relief as you sighed.
"Oh Mingyu, it's you."
He chuckle softly, "Who were you expecting?"
You sighed a bit, "My date."
Mingyu sat own beside you, watching as you rifled through your bag.
"You don't want to see him?" He asked softly, secretly hopeful.
You shook your head, "I realized tonight, once he had a few drinks in him, he was pretending to be someone else when we first met. I'm not really surprised, or disappointed really, just annoyed."
Mingyu nodded in understanding, trying to repress the grin that threatened to appear. "So you're not gonna see him again?"
You shook your head, "Definitely not."
"Good."
Your eyes shot over to Mingyu as he froze in realization. Catching your eyes he let out a soft laugh, "I mean, he seemed off to me so, I'm glad you figured it out too."
You watched him for another moment before you pulled makeup wipes from your bag, resisting the urge to smile at his reaction.
Mingyu watched as you began to wipe at the horns on your head.
Catching his eye you smiled, "They're starting to hurt."
"Here, let me help."
You turned towards Mingyu as he gently started to wipe at the adhesive on the horns before gently prying them from your head. You winced a bit as small hairs were pulled, and he apologized softly.
His eyes flicked down to yours and his heart skipped when he met your eyes. You smiled at him and he grinned, trying not to show just how nervous you made him.
"Thank you." You spoke softly as he handed you the horns. You began to wipe at your face as you sighed, "This much blood was a mistake, this is gonna take forever to get off" Mingyu chuckled and you peered over at him, "But at least I looked good right?"
His eyes widened a bit as he caught the teasing glint in your eye. He let out a chuckle as he scratched the back of his head.
He nodded "Yeah, at least you looked good."
You giggled and his heart fluttered. Looking up at the sky you stretched a bit.
"Honestly I should have known." Mingyu gave you a curious look and you continued. "What kind of guy insists on taking someone to a fancy restaurant, and then orders for you without asking your preferences."
Mingyu winced a bit at this and shook his head making you chuckle. "What did he order for you?"
"The salmon dish."
"You hate salmon!"
You nodded and laughed, "It was so bad."
"You ate it anyways didn't you?"
"Of course I did! I didn't want to be rude"
He chuckled and shook his head, "If he had asked you beforehand he would have known you'd prefer a fun first date rather than a fancy dinner anyways."
You looked over at him as your heart fluttered. "Oh is that what I would like?" You asked with a playfully challenging tone.
He grinned at you and nodded, his eyes almost shined. "You told me once. You like doing something fun to break the tension instead of something silent that forces conversation."
You smiled at him as a comfortable silence hung between you. "What would you have suggested then? As a first date?"
Mingyu repressed a grin as the answer came to mind immediately. It had been something he planned in his head a thousand times.
"First, we would go bowling, and then to karaoke. After that we would get some of the best-worst food we can find."
You giggled as he spoke, your heart hammering as he recited all of the things you would loved to have done.
"Then we would go to an arcade where I would win you a bunch of prizes."
As his face became more serene and his voice softer you wondered if he had thought about this before.
"Then we would end the evening with a walk in the park, where I would hold your hand. I would walk you to your door, and ask you on another date before saying goodnight."
It took you a moment to realize he had finished as you stared at him in awe.
You smiled as you felt warmth fluttering through your body. "That sounds perfect."
"I knew it would."
You looked down at your feet as you spoke, "It almost sounded like you had thought about it before..." There was a shyness to your tone that made Mingyu's chest clench.
He wanted to reach over and take your hand but he resisted.
"That's beause I have."
You looked up at this, meeting his eyes, as pleasant surprise flooded your features.
"A lot, actually. Like an embarrassing amount." He admitted with a shy chuckle and you grinned at him.
You played with your hands nervously. "Is there a reason you never asked?"
He shrugged softly. "I was afraid you'd say no."
You frowned a bit, before you shook your head. "I'm sorry you thought that. But, I would have said yes."
He stared at you for a moment as elation rocked through him. "You would?"
You nodded with a smile. "Definitely."
He grinned as he leaned closer to you his eyes piercing into yours, making you hold your breath. "Then, would you go on a date with me? Please?"
You giggled and nodded your head, "Yes I'd love to go on a date with you."
Giving in, he reached over and took your hand into his. He met your eyes again as he chuckled, "I did mean it by the way."
"Mean what?"
"You look good. Even covered in fake blood. You always look good."
You giggled as you pressed your forehead to his shoulder out of shyness, making him chuckle. He set his head on top of yours as you both basked in the feverish joy that radiated between the two of you.
