Hiding away at the arcade was Chenle’s definition of a day well spent. He could play games in the comfort of his home, but there was something far more appealing about sneaking outside. As a teen rebel, he had to act his part.

His mother had insisted he stay within the confines of their estate, however not even the guards assigned to watch over him could stop him from chasing his wild youth.

There was a killer on the prowl, they warned him. Mysterious deaths, with no rhythm or rhyme.

Chenle had heard of the serial killer. In fact he had a rather morbid fascination with the works of the killer, though he knew it wasn’t the sort of thing he should admire.

When his car flipped over for what may have been the thousandth time on screen, Chenle decided it was time to head back home. He may have a streak of rebellion, but he wasn’t eager to stay out in the shadows where it was easier to be snatched.

As he pushed back his chair, the power went out, plunging the room into darkness.

Then the machines sputtered back on, all of them showing the same screen:

GAME OVER.

That’s when Chenle noticed that he was the only one in the arcade. Not even the staff he’d greeted when he’d walked in this morning were around.

Chenle swore when he heard the footsteps behind him.

“Am I out of lives?” he dared to ask, though he already suspected the answer.
