Prompt fic requested by @nonnienonnon00 :
4 - but early Marina Season 3 - Maya just can't stop thinking about Carina
Here it is, with a little twist because I wrote what inspired me. I hope you enjoy it!
>>>>>>>>>>
When she was thirteen years old, Carina had a crush on a boy called Nico. They would walk home after school in the same direction. He was a year older than Carina, a little scrawny but he had a kind face. She never tried to talk to him, too shy back then. Besides, he was always with a friend and she would usually have Andrew in tow, chatting away about his day.
And then, just before the summer break, Andrea was on a play date with a school friend and Carina was walking home alone for once. She stopped at the store near her house to buy a cola and, when she stepped out into the afternoon sun, Nico was waiting for her. It turned out he had noticed her too – told her he liked her brown eyes and pretty smile. He walked with her the rest of the way home, telling her about the spaniel his family had just adopted from a local rescue centre and their plans to spend the school holidays in Naples with his aunts and uncles and cousins.
He asked for her phone number and, a couple of days later, she was sat on the bottom stair in her house, the phone cradled by her ear, twirling the wire around her finger as they talked for over an hour, until Mama rushed her out the door for dinner at her grandparents.
It was a summer of phone calls, a summer spent on that bottom stair sharing stories about their vacation. A summer of goofy smiles and heart flutters every time she heard his voice.
It fizzled out pretty quickly when they started the new school year, but the memories of those phone calls, of the goofy smiles and heart flutters, stayed with Carina as she grew up. She was always searching for it, in the men she would talk to at the bar and the women she would take home to her bed. She built connections, she had relationships, but she never found what she was looking for.
Until Maya.
Carina will never know why Maya caught her eye that day in the hospital when she was delivering the patient’s nose to Doctor Helm. Was it fate? Was it the gravitational pull she feels every time she is in Maya’s presence?
All she knows is that it is ten o’clock on a Friday evening and, here she is, curled up in bed in her pyjamas instead of out at a bar, her cell phone to her ear and her hair twirled around her fingertips.
“You didn’t!”
She hears Maya hum.
“The poor woman was convinced she had a wild animal behind her walls. She looked awful, said she hadn’t slept because of the noise.”
“And it was her vibrator?”
“Yep, it was wedged between her bed and the wall. Every time she moved, it would hit the power button, so it was turning on and off again all night.”
Carina’s heart flutters when Maya laughs.
“I wish I could have taken a photo of Dean’s face when he found it.”
“Me too!” Carina says, laughing along with her and feeling the tension of the day drifting away.
“We left her with a red face, a hole in her wall and a very expensive repair job.”
“Dio mio, your day was a lot more interesting than mine,” Carina says.
“Oh yeah? Tell me about it.”
“You don’t have work to do?”
It might be late in the evening but Carina knows that Maya’s role as captain is intense, with paperwork to be done in between every call.
“Yes,” Maya says. “But I’d rather listen to you.”
Carina’s cheeks turn a little pink, and she is glad Maya can’t see her. It has only been a couple of days since their first official date and second kiss, and it is all that Carina has been able to think about. About the bright blue of Maya’s eyes and the way they crinkle when she smiles; about the way her voice lowers when she is flirting and the softness of her lips and the firmness of her hands.
“Well, I delivered four babies today,” Carina says.
“Four babies? In one day?”
Carina chuckles. “This morning, I delivered twins. That was a very happy one, my client has been through four rounds of IVF to have her babies. I had one this afternoon, the little piccolino was a few weeks early but is doing well. And about…” She checks the time on her phone. “…two hours ago, I came out of surgery after an emergency c-section.”
“You must be exhausted,” Maya says. “I can’t believe you answered the phone, talking to me must be the last thing you want to do tonight.”
“Actually, talking to you is exactly what I want to be doing right now,” Carina says sweetly. “Non riesco a smettere di pensarti.”
“Huh?”
Carina smiles to herself. “I said… I can’t stop thinking about you.”
The line goes quiet and Carina wonders if she has said too much, too soon. She bites her bottom lip nervously.
“You, uh, you’ve been on my mind too,” Maya says eventually.
A goofy grin spreads across Carina’s face. “Hmm, I definitely want to hear all about that.”
She doesn’t need to see Maya to know that she is blushing right now, the strangled sound coming from the back of her throat giving her away.
“But, as much as I’m enjoying this phone call, I would like to see you in person again. What are you doing this weekend?”
“My shift finishes tomorrow morning at eight,” Maya says, her voice light and happy. “I usually crash out for a couple of hours, and then I’m free until Monday.”
“Now you have plans,” Carina says resolutely. “How about dinner? I want to take you to my favourite restaurant in Seattle.”
“Where’s that?”
“It’ll be a surprise,” Carina says, trying to be a little mysterious. “Be ready at seven.”
“It’s a date,” Maya says.
A second date. A third kiss – and hopefully more. Carina’s heart flutters again.
“Now, bambina, tell me all about those thoughts you’ve been having about me…”

4 for Marina please and thanks!
...where it hurts.
Tumblr media
//
They didn't even argue with Peggy and Dayna's offer to keep Liam overnight. In a wordless exchange, they both knew they needed to be alone.
As they shuffle into the house, Maya tries to stifle a cough, the irritation getting harder to ignore. She knows she'll be clearing dirt and ash out of her sinuses for days after. Carina gives her a pointed look, giving Maya permission -- or, perhaps, reminding her -- that it was best to clear everything out of her lungs now.
After a few moments of full-body hacks, her breathing returns to normal.
"Shower first," Carina directs.
Robotically, Maya finds herself in the bathroom, stripping off her clothes, turning on the tap.
Evidence from the fire start to appear. Bruises on her shins and upper arms from dropping to the ground to shelter in place. Brush suits provide mobility and fire retardant, but not the padding of her regular turnouts. The dull ache thrums under her skin like another pulse.
She finishes and she wraps a towel around herself and pads into the bedroom.
She freezes as she crosses the threshold.
The image of Carina sitting up in bed, reading through one of the countless parenting books --Carina knew plenty about fertility and gestation and pregnancy and childbirth, but not much that came after -- Carina, dressed in a tank top (and whatever else was hidden under the comforter --
An image of normalcy, of calm. Of indiscrete, indicating nothing out of the ordinary...
An image she almost didn't get to see again.
It breaks her.
The sob escapes before she even has an inkling to stop it. A hand claps against her mouth, trying to stifle the incoming flood, but damming the emotion only makes her cry harder.
Her legs crumple under her. She collapses to the floor, towel still wrapped around her, damp hair falling into her face. Her chest feels like it's about to burst open and everything hurts.
In the din of the sobs that seem to wrack the whole house --it's not a relief Liam isn't home -- she hears Carina. Running to her. Calling her name.
"Maya!"
Smells Carina, who smells like fresh linens and home cooking and Liam's baby lotion, not like the brush fire that almost took them both.
No...all three of them.
She feels Carina's arms around her, not caring they're dampening , and she just cries harder. Her breathing, comes in ragged gasps that makes her light-headed and blurs her vision.
"What is it? What happened?" Maya can hear the strained edge to her voice, a calm that wants desperately to turn to panic.
"Show me where it hurts..."
Carina pulls her hands away, shaking and nearly fused to the towel. She holds Maya's face in her hands, her eyes searching, trying to latch on to Maya's, to calm her, to anchor her.
Minutes -- or hours -- pass before Maya gets a handle on her breathing. All the while, Carina stays, kneeling in front of her, holding her.
Eventually, Maya lifts a trembling arm, where a large bruise has already bloomed under her shoulder. She averts her eyes, the bruises also bringing back the old injury of shame of asking for help.
Without hesitation, Carina's lips graze against the sensitive skin. Warmth blooms in the spot her mouth touches, making Maya shiver, though she still feels untethered.
"Where else does it hurt, my love?"
Maya shifts in Carina's arms, pulling her knee up, now brandished with several smaller blemishes.
She watches this time, the slow tenderness with which Carina touches her, as if her healing is dependent on how much love she can imbue into each moment of contact.
Maya forgets to look away when Carina lifts her head, and their eyes lock.
Eyes only on me.
"Where does it hurt, bambina?" Her voice is barely a whisper.
Slowly, like she is moving through water, eyes still locked with Carina's, Maya lays a hand on her chest. Carina's chin trembles, but she leans forward and presses her lips to Maya's sternum once...twice...then on the other side...
As Carina moves across her body, what shattered moments ago begin to thread themselves together again. The world feels less dark and chaotic.
She is home.
And she is safe.
They are all safe.
When she wasn't looking, Carina captures Maya's lips with hers. Soft, but sure.
"It doesn't hurt there..." Maya manages, her voice still thick, as she pulls away.
Chuckling at Maya's furrowed brow and confusion, Carina rubs her nose against Maya's.
"Better safe than sorry, amore mio."

prompt #32: make that scene make sense in the episode
Blindfold
“Agh,” Maya hisses, pulling away quickly with her eyes shut tight.
Three times now, Carina’s tried to lean in for an innocent kiss and three times now, there’s been a box of pastries or a Liam or a fucking breeze that’s gotten in the way.
Three fucking times since she’s gotten home.
And it really just makes Maya want to scream.
“I’m sorry, bambina,” Carina whispers, stepping away, “What can I do?”
Detach my boobs, Maya wants to say, Take all these hormones out of my body.
Rip my fucking clothes off.
She opens her eyes instead, willing herself not to cry with frustration. There’ve been enough tears for today.
Enough tears for a lifetime.
“My entire body feels like it’s on fire,” she confesses, sucking in a wavering breath.
Carina nods, understanding.
Always so understanding.
“It will be worth it tomorrow,” she promises, inching closer without touching, “And then you will start to feel better.”
“Because it’ll be your turn to feel crappy.”
Carina shrugs, unperturbed. “We’re making a baby.”
The tears start to pool in Maya’s eyes again, betraying her. “I wish this was more romantic,” she whispers, slipping her fingers between Carina’s.
“This isn’t romantic?” Carina smirks, her eyebrow quirking. “I find it very romantic that your nipples are exploding.”
Despite herself, Maya laughs. “Shut up.”
“We could make it more romantic,” Carina suggests, waving the baby monitor in her left hand like it’s a prize they’ve won: Liam sound asleep in his crib. “Hop up on the counter.”
Maya frowns, confused.
“If you are higher,” Carina explains, pushing at Maya’s hips to ease her backwards, “I can kiss you without touching your exploding nipples.”
“You’re going to make me regret using that analogy, aren’t you?” Maya mutters, hopping up onto the thin bit of counter not already dedicated to sink space or the toaster or drying dishes.
God, they really need to renovate.
She tries not to wince as her body settles again, leaning against the cabinet doors.
Carina grins, backing away with a glint in her eye. “Un secondo,” she promises, holding up a finger as she disappears into the dining room.
“I thought you were going to kiss me,” Maya calls after her, spreading her legs in a hopeful invitation.
“I am,” Carina teases as she reappears in the doorway, sliding a strip of fabric between her fingers. “Your body is on fire, no?” she asks as she saunters closer.
Maya swallows roughly, watching.
Knowing that look on her wife’s face.
Rip my fucking clothes off, her insides scream again.
Carina smirks. “Tell me our safe word,” she instructs, already in charge.
Already lighting a fire low in Maya’s belly.
Because there is love here, burning between them – love and consent and affection. Carina knows how the blindfold can heighten all the other senses. How it helps Maya to relax, to feel more present in her body.
How fucking hot she finds it.
Maya does as she is told, whispering the word as she leans forward, allowing Carina to tie the soft fabric around her eyes. Allowing Carina to take full control.
“Stay here,” Carina commands.
Maya waits, listening intently as Carina’s feet pad across the kitchen floor. As the cardboard pastry box is opened once more.
She waits, until she feels the warmth of Carina slipping between her legs, the smell of her perfume and the faint sweetness of donuts wafting in between them.
Until Carina leans closer, her nose brushing against Maya’s own.
Maya opens her mouth, desperate for the kiss she’s been waiting hours for.
Instead, she feels Carina’s finger slip past her lips, tasting of cream filling. She opens her mouth wider, feeling Carina’s breath on her tongue.
Carina, and the taste she’s actually craving.
“Lick,” Carina orders.
Maya closes her mouth dutifully, sucking the custard from Carina’s slender finger. Her hand sneaks around Carina’s back, sliding down to find purchase on her ass.
She grins when Carina gasps at the contact, taking it as an opportunity to seek out Carina’s mouth once more. Carina’s beautiful, delicious mouth.
Maya only manages to dip her tongue behind Carina’s teeth before she’s slipping away again, giggling as she drifts to the end of Maya’s fingers.
“Where are you going now?” Maya calls after her.
“Be good,” Carina chuckles instead of answering.
The fridge opens across the room and Maya does know, then, where Carina is going. Knows exactly what path Carina intends to take them down this evening.
She pries the blindfold from her head, slipping off the counter as quickly as she can manage. Grinning, as she disobeys.
Somehow, it’s fast enough to surprise Carina before she can lean inside the fridge for the chocolate sauce or the strawberries or whatever else is on her menu.
“No more food,” Maya mutters, pushing the door closed as she eases Carina back against the sink. “I only want to taste you.”

Lucy Tara is part of the best firefighters team from Honolulu. Under the command of Captain Tennant, she faces the struggles of the island alongside the team: Jesse, Kai, Boom Boom, Bam Bam, Chase and Ernie, "who technically doesn't count" as Lucy likes to say. On her night off work, she goes to a good bar on her neighborhood and pretends for just sometime that her job isn't life threatening. All sounded fun...
....Until she meets trauma surgeon Kate Whistler.

Maya & Carina - 🏕️ 🤕🌷 please
Maya & Carina, ⛺️ 🌷 🤕
Maya is strong. Strong enough to carry someone for quite some distance. But she's also realistic. She knows that carrying Carina would slow her down, a lot, and that they'd never make it back before nightfall. They'd might get halfway, but that would be anything but an advantage.
Their last hour of daylight is way too precious.
"You can make it though," Carina suggests, while biting through the pain. She leans forward to re-adjust the improvised brace around her ankle, careful to avoid the broken bone. They lost a lot of time after her fall, needing to take care of her injury first, but Carina is convinced that Maya can still finish the last part of the trek, especially if she'd take a run for it. "You can reach the parking lot before dark and get help. Or maybe your phone picks up a signal before that?"
Maya shakes her head. "No way," she tells her, a serious and determined look on her face. "I'm not leaving you here. Never."
"But Maya—"
"Carina, no! If we split up and something happens to me as well, we don't stand a chance. Besides, we don't need that risk. We can make it through the night, and then take our time first thing in the morning." Maya takes Carina's hand in her own, giving it an encouraging squeeze. "We'll be okay. Alright?"
Carina just nods. She knows Maya feels responsible. Even guilty maybe. She took Carina out here. Persuaded her it would be a great hike, now that winter was finally over, making the Washington woods accessible again. Accessible and beautiful, with spring breaking through in every possible way.
Not wanting to waste any more time, Maya jumps up.
"We need shelter first. I'll try to build us some kind of tent," she says, already scanning her surroundings. "I can make a fire, too. I think we've got some water left, and we can do one night without food."
"Look at you," Carina grins through gritted teeth, as another wave of pain hits her, "Watching that Bull guy all the time finally pays off."
Not understanding, Maya furrows her brow, but then a sudden snort escapes her - despite their unfortunate situation.
"You mean Bear," she chuckles, remembering the moment when Carina finally agreed to watch the show with her, only to take off in disgust within a few minutes, when Bear Grylls was about to drink his own pee. "And like him or not, but he does know survival. I'm sure you'll send him a thank you note as soon as we're out of here!"
By now, Maya has wandered off a little, still searching around for anything useful. Spring might indeed come with some lovely flowers, but it also means a surplus of buds and fresh, young and most of all tiny leaves. Now why couldn't they have been stranded on some tropical beach, surrounded by giant palm trees?
"This isn't gonna work, is it?" Carina asks, her already existing worry fueled by the now thoughtful expression on Maya's face. Maya turns back to her, alarmed by the tone in Carina's voice.
"Of course it is!" She isn't sure who she's trying to reassure the most, but she has to believe that things will work out. That she can do this. "I- I'm not completely sure how yet. But I'll figure it out. I promise," she goes on, quickly speeding back to her wife. "Hey, look at me. I promise, okay? I know I've been… absent. But I'm here now. And I'm getting us through this. I'll get you through this night."
When she takes Carina in her arms, cautious so she doesn't hurt her even more, Carina looks up at her.
"By building us a roof out of daisies?"
"If I have to," Maya quietly nods, before pressing a kiss to her temple. "I mean, how many would it really take? A thousand? Two maybe?!"
Carina narrows her eyes. "And if that doesn't work?"
"Then I'll cover you," Maya shrugs. "I know it's not much, compared to a roof of daisies, or a bed of roses, or a freaking sheet of tulips, but if it's enough for you—"
"It is," Carina cuts her off. "See, this Bear of yours might be the expert here, and he might very well be right about needing shelter first. But he doesn't have what I have."
Now Maya is the one to frown. "Which is?"
"You, silly!" Carina laughs. "I've got you. And you, my love, are - and will always be - more than enough."

Marina Prompts-
1. Carina has enough from dating and applies to be part of a TV show, where they find your ‘perfect’ match based on science and the participants see their match the first time in front of the altar. Carina meets Maya on their wedding day and both go through with the ceremony, but now without cameras there, they have to find out if this was the perfect match or should they get a divorce
2. Being a single parent and not getting out of the house enough is not easy, but maya loves their kid and if they have to put their dating life on hold, so be it. But when Carina moves into the apartment next door, it’s the kids that see an opportunity to make their parents happy
3.Carina moves into a new apartment and wants to check out the closest dog park. Their dog (Jeff) loves it there, especially that one dog (ford) that seems to be there almost every time they go. With their dogs being madly in love with each other, Maya and Carina are forced to spend more time together as well
4.Carina getting hella jealous when she sees Maya out and about with their (not) date and end up following them around. Maya catches them and is like, “Why are you following me?” And Carina’s like, “To tell your date how much of a dick you are so they can avoid dating someone like you.” (or, alternatively: Maya cornering Carina about it, and Maya being like, “But why do you care?” and Carina saying, “I don’t.” And then they somehow end up fucking them in a random alleyway or at a back of a bar or something. You can fill in the details on how they get to that point.)
One shots-
5. Maya starts her period on shift, has to message/call Carina in a panic hoping they don’t get called out. Doesn’t wanna ask Beckett to leave.
6. Maya spilling coffee/soup all over themselves by accident and starts panicking, so (insert character) helps them take off/clean their clothes right when Carina walks in
7. “C’mere… Want snuggles.” (Featuring grabby hands!!!)
8. Maya bleeds through while asleep, wakes up embarrassed (or Carina wakes her up)
9. “Stop sticking your feet down my pants!” “It’s not my fault your asscheeks are hella warm.”
10. “I wanna be big spoon this time.” “But you’re tiny.”
Sentence smut starters prompts-
11. Maya/Carina strap au “all i can think of is sitting on top of your hard cock

21. “What the fuck?  Do that again.  I liked it.”
22. “How are you so oblivious?  I’m trying to tell you I’m fucking horny!”
23. “You know it’s fine if you’re a little rough with me, right?” “But I don’t want to hurt you…” “It’s fine, I can take it. I want it rough. Please?”

I go on a work trip for a few days and you just forget who you belong to? Don’t worry sweetheart, I’ll remind you.”
27. “Kiss me, please.” / “Is that all you want baby, is for me to kiss you?” / “N-no, I also want you to fuck me senseless, but a kiss sounded far more romantic.”
28. “Fuck, you’re doing so great for me, sweetheart,” Carina praises, hands gripping onto the sides of Maya’s hips as she rub herself against her wife’s thigh in a quickening pace; smiling a little when Maya whimpers at the praise.

Marina prompt:
Carina hears someone (firefighters/nurses) making fun of Maya over her spiral (demotion, 5150, wife leaving...).
Thank you for the prompt!
If anyone has any other Marina prompts, I would love them! This is the only one I've had so far

Ooh. I really like prompts 9, 11, 12, 29, & 51, so whichever most inspires you of those for Marina would be nice to read!
Thank you for the prompts! I took three of these (9, 12 and 29) and combined them into one ficlet. I hope you like it, I'm a little rusty! 😊
>>>>>>>>>>
Carina pauses just inside the door of Joe’s bar, her eyes sweeping the room as she looks for her wife. She is momentarily distracted when she spots Jack and Travis on the far side, arguing over a microphone as they fight to be heard on the karaoke machine. Vic is nearby, her face scrunched up and her hands covering her ears, while Cutler, Larsson and Kline cheer them on.
Carina bites back a laugh as she resumes her search. She finds Maya at the bar, perched on a stool – her usual spot, the same seat she occupied all those years ago when they first met; the same seat she always gravitates back to subconsciously. Andy sits beside her as they knock back a shot of something Carina knows they will regret in the morning. She resists the pull to go straight to them, holding back as she takes in Maya’s outfit. She is wearing a pair of dark jeans and a simple tee, the already short sleeves slightly rolled to show off the muscles in her arms.
Carina feels a familiar stirring inside of her as her stomach flips – no, not flips. It somersaults, the kind that would win a gold medal at the Olympics.
“DeLuca!”
She turns towards the call of her name to see Ben waving a bottle of wine at her, offering her a glass. She shakes her head at him, her hand instinctively running over her stomach. They haven’t told anyone about the embryo transfer, deciding to keep this one to themselves for now.
When she looks back towards the bar, Maya is grinning at her, calling her closer. Carina moves through the crowds and greets her wife with a kiss. Her lips taste of salty fries and tequila as Carina sweeps her tongue over them.
“What took you so long? I missed you!” Maya says when their lips part, her words a little slurred.
“You’re drunk!”
“And that’s my queue to leave,” Andy says teasingly.
As she stands up, she reaches out and squeezes Carina’s arm gently, her eyes bright and sparkling. It is easy for Carina to guess what they have been talking about.
“You told her,” Carina says as she slips onto the stool that Maya has pulled closer for her.
“It’s Andy,” Maya says with a shrug, “she doesn’t count. And…” She holds up a finger and points it in the direction of her wife. “I am not drunk.”
Carina chuckles, a small shake of her head as she calls the barman over and orders a sparkling water.
“How was work?” Maya asks.
“Busy,” Carina laments. “Two mamas – twin sisters – who wanted to give birth to their babies at the same time. Except one was crowning while the other was only six centimetres dilated.” She sips her drink. “When I give birth...”
She stops herself, silently berating herself for getting her hopes up too high. After all, the IUIs didn’t take, she isn’t getting any younger and the knowledge that time is running out for them weighs heavily on her.
“I mean, if…”
“When,” Maya says. She reaches out and takes Carina’s hand, waiting for Carina to look at her. “Hey, it’s okay to be optimistic.”
Carina opens her mouth to object, but Maya interrupts her again.
“When.”
A small smile passes Carina’s lips and she nods, but doesn’t say the word out loud again, doesn’t want to jinx them. Instead, she leans in and kisses Maya, lingering a little longer this time as she feels the day’s tension leave her body.
“How’s the party?”
She looks over her shoulder to where Sullivan and Ross dance, ignorant of the celebrations going on around them, their eyes only on each other. They had kept their engagement secret for several months, fearful of the reaction they might receive, not only from 19 but from the powers that be within Seattle FD. They need not have been worried about their family at 19, though, as the team had rallied around them and insisted that they celebrate at Joe’s after work.
As the happy couple move around the dancefloor lost in their own little world, Carina smiles to herself, knowing that feeling very well as she is transported back to her own wedding day when she couldn’t keep her eyes off Maya. Especially in that dress.
“Better now that you’re here,” Maya says.
Carina can’t help but roll her eyes at the corny line, but she melts at the endearment anyway.
“Do you ever think about doing it again?”
Carina looks at her, lost. “Think about what?”
“Getting married again,” Maya says.
Carina laughs. “You’re more than enough wife for me, Maya,” she says.
“No,” Maya says, “I mean… do you ever think about marrying me again?”
“I think you’ve had too much tequila.”
“No!” Maya says. “I mean, maybe…”
Carina quirks an eyebrow, watching as Maya shifts in her seat, turning her body to face her.
“I’ve been thinking,” Maya says. “We rebuilt our foundations. We had a second first date…”
“Twice,” Carina reminds her.
“… we started over and I… I fell in love with you all over again. Every day, every time I look at you, I think I fall a little more in love.” The corners of Maya’s eyes crinkle as they shine at her, so full of love that Carina’s heart swells. “I promised myself that we’d take it slow, that we’d take our time making sure that our foundations are really strong this time.”
“They are, my love.”
“I know,” Maya says. “But all of a sudden there’s Liam…”
Her smile widens at the mention of their son.
“…and a house, and IVF, and I never got to ask you to marry me again. Because I never asked you the first time, not properly, not the way you deserve; and I wanted us to have a second chance at that, too.”
“Maya,” Carina says, taking Maya’s hands in her own, “I asked you, remember? I got out of that taxi and I asked you to marry me. And yes, it was messy, but I love that it’s part of our story.”
“So do I,” Maya says. “And I’m not trying to rewrite our history. But I never thought I’d be so lucky, especially not in this lifetime, and I want to celebrate that. Me and you and Liam and…” Her eyes drop to Carina’s belly. “…whoever else might come along.”
Carina’s eyes widen as Maya slides off her stool, her face determined. Definitely too much tequila.
“What are you doing?”
“What if I asked you right now? What if I got down on one knee, right here in this bar, and asked you to marry me?”
“I’d think you were crazy!” Carina laughs.
A few curious glances are thrown their way and Carina grabs Maya’s hand, tugging her closer before they draw too much of a crowd.
Maya looks at her stubbornly. “Would you say yes?”
There is a nervous lilt in her voice that doesn’t go unnoticed and Carina softens. The answer is an easy one.
“Bambina, I would say yes every time.”
She smiles as she pulls Maya even closer, their lips crashing together, not caring that they have an audience. She thinks she hears a wolf whistle from across the bar and doesn’t know if it is meant for them, but Carina ignores it anyway, too wrapped up in her wife’s embrace to think about anyone else. They are breathless when they finally break apart, but Carina keeps Maya in her arms, burying her face into her neck and inhaling the lingering scent of her perfume. She wonders how Maya will propose, and whether it will be a big spectacle or somewhere quiet; if she will be surprised when it happens or if she will see it coming. Her heart flutters with excitement and she tells herself to be patient.
“So,” Maya says with a conspiratorial tone, “since you’re feeling so agreeable tonight, do you wanna sing karaoke with me?”
Carina tips her head back and laughs loudly.
“Absolutely not!”
She ignores the playful pout on Maya’s face, slipping off her stool and grabbing Maya’s hand.
“But I will dance with you.”
As she walks towards the dancefloor and listens to her wife’s laughter behind her, Carina’s hand rests on her stomach one more time. Maybe, just maybe, all of her dreams are coming true.

Still taking prompts? Carina feeling emotional over Maya learning/knowing Italian.
You got it, dude. Canon-compliant for your reading pleasure.

Ding!
Carina smiles as she steps through the front door, the smell of dinner on the stove wafting down the hallway to greet her.
They’ve been in their new home all of three weeks and already they’ve fallen into a symbiotic routine – one she finds herself endlessly enamoured by. A warm meal waiting for whoever’s last to arrive home, a load of laundry in the dryer before bed each night, swapping shifts to rise when Liam cries out at 2am to be fed.
There’s balance forming, now that they’re here. Balance and love and support that seemed so far away, so farfetched, just a year ago.
“I’m back!” she calls out as she wanders into the kitchen, heavy grocery bags dangling from her hands. She can’t wait until they renovate this space; can’t wait until there’s more room on the counters and in the pantry for all the things she has to keep slipping out to buy.
Mela, a slightly robotic voice says.
Carina frowns, turning towards the sound, groceries piled half on the counter and half in the sink. She lets them tumble from her grasp, traipsing down the hallway after yet another Ding! echoes from the nursery.
Arancia, the robotic voice says.
“Arancia,” Maya repeats, her voice so whisper soft Carina barely hears it. “That’s an orange.”
Ding!
She’s leaned back in the plush rocking chair they’d settled on for the nursery, Liam curled in her lap with his eyelids fluttering as he tries desperately to pay attention to the phone she holds in front of them.
Elefante, the robotic voice inside the screen says next.
“Elefante,” Maya replicates, lips pressed to the side of Liam’s cap-covered head. “You know elephant.”
Ding! the phone chirps.
“Oh, you know this one, too,” Maya whispers, smiling softly. “Mamma says buona notte every night before we go to sleep.”
“Sì,” Carina murmurs, stumbling into the gravity that’s dragging her across the room towards them. “Buona notte means good night.”
Maya nods, turning just enough for Liam and his heavy eyelids to catch a glimpse of Carina as she leans over the arm of the chair to kiss his cheeks. “And ciao is hello.”
His little face splits into a grin, reaching for his mamma even as he fights a losing battle with sleep. “Ah,” he chirps.
“I got a few lessons ahead of him,” Maya explains, setting her phone aside on the dresser. She tips Liam backwards in her arms, laying his head in the crook of her elbow with a practiced ease. He gazes up at her with a toothless smile, nearly giving in to the weight of his eyelids. “So, we had to go back and review what he missed.”
“Ah,” Liam repeats.
“Sì,” Maya nods, looking down at their baby boy with a ferocity of love that causes a clench of something deep and primal and unquantifiable in Carina’s chest. “Apple is mela. That’s your favourite, I know.”
One of those tiny, perfect fists finds its way into Liam’s mouth and then, finally, he loses the fight. Finally, his eyes close and he tumbles into sleep.
And that feeling in Carina’s chest seems to explode.
She leans forward, reaching for Maya with a desperation she can’t quite explain. Tugging, needy, until their lips connect. Until she can try to convey with her body what she doesn’t have English words for.
Ti amo. Ho bisogno di te. Sono così perdutamente innamorato di te.
Maya won’t understand them all – not yet.
But she will. One day, she will.
