This is a low pressure exchange with low minimums for sketches or ficlets since December is always a busy month, but it is so nice to start off the new year celebrating each other's OCs 💕 The exchange happens only within the discord, but there will be an ao3 collection to post our gifts to as well as sharing and celebrating in the secret santa channel. Feel free to message me if you have questions.

Hi! I thought I would post a WIP of what I had been writing before the New Year begins. 🎉 I also started on my sequel to "Unexpected" just fyi! This fic is about Shawn distracting Bret during a match and he gets real angry over it. 🫢 This is pretty rough, but I hope you like it all the same!

The music hit and Bret began his walk towards the ring. The stadium was deafening. His opponent Steve Austin stood watching him at the turnbuckle. Everything appeared normal, same shit different night. Prior to entering, he of course gifted a kid with his signature glasses. The kid was excited, turning away almost immediately to show his family. Back to business, he climbed inside the ring and did the usual, arms outstretched and rousing the crowd. As he surveyed the masses, someone in the audience caught his eye. Someone who clearly didn’t belong. Shawn Michaels. What was he doing? This wasn’t part of the act. Was he with someone? He was very obviously dressed to impress. Shawn’s golden hair appeared freshly washed, shining and falling down around his shoulders. Diamond earrings glinting beneath the overhead lights and a thin black choker around his neck. The shirt left little to the imagination, a tight mesh black top. 

He knew he had stared too long when Shawn met his gaze, winking at Bret in reply. He had to be toying with him, why else would he be out there among the masses. They were deep into their feud and Shawn must have convinced management last minute to let him pull a distraction like this. Bret placed his hands on his hips and began to pace the ring, his eyes never leaving Shawn. The announcer and his opponent didn’t seem to notice their silent back and forth, but the bell rang and broke Bret from Shawn’s spell. He snapped back to reality and went to work on Stone Cold. They grappled for a few minutes before Bret was tossed across the mat, landing on his side against the ropes. He pulled himself up and found Shawn was watching intently, arms crossed. In true HBK fashion, Shawn blew a kiss to Bret and grinned. 

Bret righted himself and ran a hand through his hair. He was surprised Shawn hadn’t yet made his presence more known. Maybe if he flipped him the bird he would get a reaction from both the crowd and Shawn. He didn’t have much time to think before he was pummeled back into the ropes. He again looked at Shawn, who was now playing with his choker necklace. He let his index finger tug gently at the cord before gliding the finger between his pecs and down to his navel. Licking his lips as he did. “Come on Bret!” Steve yelled, violently shifting him around. He could tell Steve was picking up on his confusion. He was missing cues and fumbling holds. Jesus, he had to get it together. He was falling right into Shawn’s trap. Bret shoved Steve in frustration, “Fuck you!” he screamed back. He knocked Steve down, punching him over and over before he was forced off.

He stumbled and fell flat on his back. Steve had clambered atop the first rope, ready to strike. Bret recovered quickly, getting to his feet as Steve jumped. He snared both of Steve’s legs, preparing for a sharpshooter. At the corner of his eye he noticed movement ringside. The people were going nuts. He made the mistake of looking, he already knew why. Shawn had come down from his seat and was circling the ring. Shawn was lifting the hem of his shirt, a naked sliver of skin revealed. His damn belly button piercing nearly hypnotized him. He had made a big stink about it during promos, but secretly he felt it suited Shawn and was kind of sexy. He wasn’t sure how long he hadn’t been paying attention, but long enough for Steve to break the hold. This performance wasn’t going well and it showed. He was going to hear about it.

Steve pinned Bret and the referee counted three, the match was over. The crowd roared as Stone Cold took his win. Shawn continued to run around the ring, clapping his hands and openly praising Steve. Bret sat up and watched as the two of them paraded about until the cameras cut. Bret was beyond pissed off, Shawn’s little show was meant only for him and definitely not scripted. Shawn had poked fun at Bret peeking at his Playgirl magazine photos, knocking his sexuality. This secret peep show had to be another jab, ammunition Shawn could later use when confronted about the match. He got to his feet and quietly made his way out of the ring. The walk down the aisle seemed to last forever. The fans were screaming their displeasure and glee, while grabbing at him. He pushed past the entrance curtain and stood to the side with arms crossed, lying in wait for Shawn.

Bret was silent as he watched Steve and Shawn laughing through the entryway. They marched down the hallway making small talk before they parted into their respective dressing rooms. Bret promptly followed Shawn, bursting through the door. Shawn jumped as he turned toward Bret. “Hey what the hell?” he barked. “You wanna tell me exactly what you were doing out there!?” he yelled, backing Shawn into the wall. Shawn let a sweet smile spread across his lips, “Got your attention huh?” he asked playfully. “That’s one way of putting it, asshole. You fucked up my match!” Bret spat. Shawn gently tugged at the strap of his singlet, “Yeah, so what if I did?” he said, letting the strap snap back against his skin. 

Shawn tried to step aside, but was hindered by Bret slamming a hand to the wall and blocking his attempt. “You think you own this place don’t you? You think you got the whole company eating out of your fucking hand?” he said. Shawn met his eyes, “I got news for you Mr. Role Model, I sure as hell do and I know I own you too.” he said bringing his face closer to Bret, their noses practically touching. Bret could feel his face flush with embarrassment, he wanted to hit Shawn. Punch him square in his perfect jaw.
