Tuesday Again No Problem 2/13/24
My friend @girlfriendsofthegalaxy has a weekly post series summing up things she listened to/watched/made/etc that week, and I'd like to give it a try myself. I tried to do something similar with my Synthwave Sunday posts, but those ended up being unsustainable for me in the long run. I think something in the middle of the week might be a bit easier for me to maintain, but I'm not going to hold myself to a strict standard or anything.
Without further ado:
listening
Mostly the Rain World soundtrack. It’s good to put on when I’m focusing on something else.
youtube
That said, I also listened to Tangerine Dream’s album Hyperborea in its entirely the other day, and I ended up liking it quite a bit. I might have to look into more of their stuff. It’s full of good retro synths.
youtube
reading
I finally started reading Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie earlier this week, after the poor book had been sitting on my bookshelf, unread, for nearly two years. Good friends of mine have been telling me I’d enjoy it that entire time, but I just never got around to starting it until now. I’m not very far into the book, but I like what I’ve read so far.
I made a post a few days ago about why I think I have trouble reading books these days. Because of the way my brain works, I have a really hard time keeping characters from a piece of media straight in my head if it’s not a visual medium. I already know this book is going to throw a lot of characters at me, so I’ve been doing my best to write down a list of characters and their basic attributes as I read. I’m hoping it will make this book easier for me to parse, because I really do want to give it an honest shot.
I’ve been mostly reading during my downtime at work, which is few and far between these days, so I expect this book will take a long time for me to finish. Time will tell, I suppose.
watching
Fallow week. Unless Rain World memes and Canopener Bridge videos count.
youtube
youtube
playing
Still playing Rain World. I’m very close to beating Artificer’s campaign, but at this point I’m kind of just milling around getting passage tokens and finding pearls for Five Pebbles to read. I’m not going to be a completionist about it, I mostly just want to see how many pearls I can find before I start to get bored.
(I’ve brought him seven so far.)
making
I’m continuing to work on my Five Pebbles amigurumi.
I still need to finish and attach his arms, and then make his cloak. But he should be finished soon! Then I’ll start working on Looks to the Moon.
He ended up being much bigger than any amigurumi I’ve made before, but I’m fine with that. It’s an interesting challenge.
I’m also going to count my recent post about my Rain World iterator headcanons in the “making” section too, because fuck it, media analysis is a hobby too.
Rain World in particular has been a pretty good chew toy for my brain recently. The lore is kind of vague and confusing, but there’s enough there for you to begin to piece together the bigger picture. I recall reading in a devlog, “Some mysteries in Rain World aren’t meant to be solved”, but that doesn’t mean people aren’t going to try! And try I will, even if it does make me feel like that one scene from It’s Always Sunny sometimes.

My weekly roundup CW 21
I try to write down my thoughts after watching stuff to create a little weekly ranking in relation to the previous week on my, most of the times, quiet sundays (and because I love lists!). These are just my personal opinions and preferences based on the feeling I got watching the episodes.
And yes, this will contain spoilers!
But first, the perfect appearance this week:
☼ 1. The Day I Loved You (Ep 9)
I just started the series this week and I should have waited until it was completely released. Now I'm sitting here having to wait for it to continue. I am in love with the series. And episode 9 was…rough. When reality catches up with you, it usually does so with a sledgehammer. Nikko may have already accepted the idea of being in a wheelchair at some point in the past, even embraced the idea, but when reality hits you, you still feel hopeless, desperate and pissed off for a moment. I thought Justin and Eli's rapprochement was particularly well done. Justin is just a wonderful friend and knows that Eli makes Nikko happy and nothing else he wishes for his best friend. Even if it hurts to be just the best friend. I can't wait for the last episode! I guess it will leave me in more tears than this week's episode.
The most painful moment this week:
↓ 2. Love Mate (Ep 7+8 Final)
The finale in this sweet first-I-stalk-you-then-you-love-me-series has come. It hurts to say goodbye to them, but I'm all the happier with the ending. Of course the ex played a role again. Of course grumpy-guy had to retreat into himself once more to realize that the ex is just an asshole and shouldn't rule grumpy-guy's life. And luckily sunshine-guy didn't give up, but went to grumpy-guy and showed him that he's not alone and that he won't leave his side just because things got a little difficult. And then he walks down the stairs in that suit and I'm about as ecstatic as grumpy-guy! Yeah, he definitely should have put that suit on earlier! The two are only sweet together and I have them quite firmly in my heart!
Most mesmerised boy this week:
↓ 3. La Pluie (Ep 5)
Okay, the slow burn is back, which is fine. The first meeting with the father, however, I would have imagined a little later in the story and not on the second date…Nevertheless, the episode was very entertaining! I mean, Saengtai's bitchface towards his work colleague, the fact that the jacket so absolutely did not protect from the rain or even when Patts bursts into the room while Saengtai is naked, were all very exhilarating moments that enrich the series so much. What I don't understand is the whole interaction between Saengtai and Lomfon. Well, Lomfon has a crush on Saengtai, but why does Saengtai act like he's also head over heels in love and can't get a sound out when they see each other? I'm so confused.
Best bitchface of the week:
☼ 4. Be My Favorite (Ep 1)
Most valid question this week:
That was a ride. I liked Kris' somewhat stiff manner in Sotus, but here…wow! He's a bit of a comedian. In all seriousness, I thought the first episode was promising and I think that's what surprises me the most. The pairing would probably be one of the last I'd think of when talking about chemistry, but they do their thing well. And even though I can't see them falling for each other yet, because Kawi is after all very much in love with the woman Pisaeng will later marry in the other reality, I'm still excited. And yes, I could laugh heartily several times. The two have a really good, comedic chemistry.
Dumbest hero of the week:
↑ 5. Step by Step (Ep 6)
Pat is starting to understand that he likes Jeng after all. A little bit of progress is allowed in episode 6, but the episode was also really sweet. So many opportunities to flirt and if either of them would have had more courage, there would have been moments for kisses, but I think Jeng understands that Pat is a bit insecure and just needs more time. Nevertheless, this week was again a feast for the eyes, with all the loving looks from Jeng. The good guy got it so bad! I wish Pat wouldn't give Put another chance, but considering the history of the two and the fact that Pat is a people pleaser, it makes it really easy for Put to find the right words and wrap Pat around his finger. I'm not accusing him of anything bad here, and if he really wants to change, good for him…but I'm still Team Jeng….
And the best costume choice goes to, no for real...what is that?
☼ 6. The Luminous Solution (Ep 1)
There's so much going on here. Two storylines that run side by side and they're both good. This week we first got to know everyone and their problems. We have the couple that has been together for what feels like forever and their flame is slowly dying and a little more communication could work wonders here. At the moment I have the feeling that our doctor doesn't really want to be at home, while Thana is longing for more togetherness with his partner, especially since he just lost his job and his mother needs his help. And then we get to meet Mai and Ryou, and we're already set up for Enemies to Lovers, and for Ryou's best friend to have a crush on him and cause extra tension. And then of course the cafe that can grant wishes, but at a price and the whole time I was wondering why in the hell's name, doesn't she tell him the terms beforehand? That is already so a bit unfair….
↓ 7. My Story (Ep 7)
Phew…The episode was enervating. It was clear that Zeke does not make it to the performance, even if I have not understood to this day, what exactly was the school event and why they have always mixed cocktails with only alcohol and than danced at the end…What? Fifth's confession was very sweet and should actually show Zeke how important the whole shit is to him. Trust isn't one of those things that Fifth gives away freely and shit man, you lost that trust for now. Yeah, I'm sitting here being pissed at a fictional character for hurting another fictional character. But said other fictional character has conquered my heart and must be protected at all costs! And the end of the episode never happened…The birthday party takes place and after that is the end…
↓ 8. Our Dining Table (Ep 8)
Oh the embarrassment after the first kiss, even if it was only on the cheek. I knew it, that there was no lip contact. Anyway…I feel sorry for Minoru. I felt for him throughout the episode. And at the end, the idea of going back to how it was before…Nah, not happening! Even if they really wanted to. If there are feelings involved that go beyond friendship, it's hard to go back to the point before, when it was still unspoken. And further, I'm Minoru's father's biggest fan! The guy is empathetic and loving and non-judgmental and I love him!
→ 9. Naked Dining (Ep 7)
Okay, another week for Futa to slowly realize that he likes Mahiro. And also slowly admits it to himself. The story of the hot-pot master was a nice addition to the show. And honestly, the last scene of Futa lying in bed with the hot-pot master's words ringing in his ears and turning to Mahiro to just really look at him was very sweet. Not so cute was the preview…Honestly, what the fuck? I know there are five more episodes to come, but nope! I do not want!
↓ 10. The Promise (Ep 10 Final)
The Final. I think after the first 4 to 5 episodes I would have given the series 10/10 stars. Even after episode 7 it would have still been in a very good range. But then came episodes 9 and 10 and too much squeezed in drama at the end. It just made the series seem unrealistic, too contrived. It just killed the feeling that I had at the beginning. I can understand Phu though, because I am one of those people who always tries to please others and always says she is ok and everything is fine. And maybe that's also the reason why he annoyed me so much in the end. Because this quality in myself is so annoying. But instead of the two of them talking to each other, because Nan and his fears of loss, which is also way too real for me, Phu shuts his feelings away first and Nan jumps to conclusions in a huff. And that frustrates me. In the end it went well, but still it made for unnecessary drama that I didn't need. And what was that crap plane crash about? I thought for a moment that Nan would come in and yell "surprise", fortunately not. Yes, I was disappointed with the second half. Why did I continue watching? Because it was too good to drop.
↓ 11. Our Skyy 2
Puh…Nope…So the first episode was still totally ok. I also think that Cher's apartment is much more comfortable than Gun's apartment. Good decision to move there, who needs space when you have love. But seriously. Why not look for a new apartment together that you can make cozy together and where the gamer friend isn't squatting right next to the bed at the PC while the CEO partner is trying to sleep. Yes, the two are cute together, but phew…I didn't get the complete point of the second episode. So in general I did, but Cher as a boss didn't work at all. Even Gun was never like that as a boss…Well, I feared it last week and was confirmed. Certainly not the strongest episodes.
Honorable Mention
Sparks Camp Well, the show doesn't make the cut, but it gets an honorable mention. I mean, 10 queer guys trying to find their Spark here. Of course I'm going to watch it! And it's got everything, the nerdy, the athletic, the influencer, the introvert and the extrovert. The comments from the contestants are the best! It remains to be seen which contestants will spark and if drama will arise. Initial bonds have already been forged in a game that included oiling up.
Until then, see you next week!

Elon Musk's Dogecoin and Bitcoin Tweets: A Crypto Twitter Timeline
Have you ever had a partner who was no good for you? Your parents, your friends, even the voice in your head told you to split up, but before you knew it, you were married with three kids.
For Tesla CEO Elon Musk, that partner is Twitter. The SEC warns him off of tweeting things that can move the market, and what does he do? He goes and buys a 9% stake in the company—and joins the board to boot.
The latest concern is that Musk’s appointment could revitalize scrutiny of the automobile kingpin from the Securities and Exchange Commission, which is tasked with protecting consumers from things like market manipulation. While the agency has fined Musk for tweets it regards as ill-timed and/or misleading related to Tesla, the South African has also been known to inflate crypto market prices in under 140 characters.
Musk first started tweeting about cryptocurrency in January 2018 with Musk-founded The Boring Company’s release of flamethrowers (not a typo):
But wait, there’s more: the flamethrower is sentient, its safe word is “cryptocurrency” and it comes with a free blockchain
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) January 29, 2018
From February 2018 through at least February 2019, Musk publicly maintained via Twitter that he owned no cryptocurrency aside from 0.25 BTC that a friend had sent to him.
But in April of that year, something shifted as Musk declared (jokingly or not), “Dogecoin might be my fav cryptocurrency. It’s pretty cool.” What followed was a years-long love affair with the joke coin, based on a meme involving a Shiba Inu dog. Decrypt has previously reported that Dogecoin searches spiked from 2019 through 2020 around the times Musk tweeted about the coin.
There’s also general agreement that Musk’s tweets—including “Dogecoin is the people’s crypto” and a photoshopped allusion to “The Lion King” in which he anoints DOGE—helped push Dogecoin’s price upward from under a penny in January 2021 to an all-time high of $0.73 on the day of his May 2021 “Saturday Night Live” appearance.
Musk’s DOGE involvement goes beyond shitposting. He’s actually been working with part-time Dogecoin developers to improve the blockchain since 2019. In May 2021, he tweeted that the immediate goal was to “improve system transaction efficiency,” adding that the work was “potentially promising.”
While Bitcoin was frequently the butt of Musk’s jokes (he called it “almost as BS as fiat money” in December 2020) he made something of an about face in February 2021, when Tesla announced it had $1.5 billion in BTC in its treasury. At the time, several lawyers told Decrypt that Musk’s Twitter habit likely didn’t cross a legal line, at least with regards to cryptocurrency.
Nonetheless, said Anderson Kill partner Preston Byrne, “CEOs of companies with substantial Bitcoin holdings will need to be very careful before talking their Bitcoin books in a fashion that might move the markets to ensure their statements are not part of anything which might be viewed as a manipulative or deceptive device or contrivance in the context of either the commodity or securities domains.”
Musk has rarely been categorized as “careful,” however. In 2018, the agency argued that a series of tweets about taking Tesla private constituted securities fraud and mandated he step down as Tesla chairman; less than a week later, he called it the Shortseller Enrichment Commission on Twitter. In July 2020, he tweeted, in an ostensible reference to his genitalia that SEC stood for something else: “SEC, three letter acronym, middle word is Elon’s.”
Enjoy the honeymoon.

By sleeping on your back with your neck supported correctly you can help offset the damaging effects of texting. prolonged computer work and our forward head posture lifestyles.

The fill is 20% down and 80% duck feathers and the thing feels like a giant soft hug for your neck. It is designed to be used multiple ways to suit your sleeping needs. – How I Read Books F-A-S-T
Optimize Holiday Sale: A top resource I recommend for reading the world’s best books f-a-s-t is the fantastic app/website called “Optimize.” What is Optimize? It’s simple, really. The good folks at Optimize read every one of the best books (primarily focusing on health, wealth, self-improvement, neuroscience, fitness, business, nutrition, lifestyle and philosophy) and then summarize these books in easy-to-digest, 20 minute audio MP3s or very short 5-6 page PDFs with the biggest ideas, summaries and most important takeaways. In less than 6 months, I easily made it through 400+ books on their site, often while I was hoisting dumbbells, walking in the sunshine, or driving in my car. So you get more wisdom in less time (here's a recent overview of the 28 best books I consumed this year). Optimize is only about 10 bucks a month, but the folks at Optimize are now knocking 25% off between now and New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2018, on their monthly, annual or lifetime membership if you click here and use code: BEN25. Travefy Makes Its First Acquisition: Travel Startup Funding This Week
Award-winning, Nebraska-based Travefy powers more than 1,000 paid travel businesses across the U.S. Travefy
Skift Take: Travefy solidifies its business with travel management companies, TravelCar brings its car rental solution to U.S. airports, NIDA Rooms expands its branded budget hotel room model in Southeast Asia, and more news in our weekly roundup.
— Sean O'Neill
Let’s start with some of the happenings on the travel tech startup scene. Travefy, an itinerary management and client communication platform, said this week that it has acquired for an undisclosed sum Los Angeles-based travel agent itinerary platform TripScope, which has been renamed and absorbed.
Lincoln, Nebraska-based Travefy says that it has signed up more than 1,000 travel businesses, from individual advisors to large organizations like Travel and Transport, a part investor and also the fifth-largest U.S. travel management company. Travefy has raised $1.67 million since its founding in 2012.
In other news, Stayzilla, India’s biggest homestay startup, is shutting down to “reboot” and “change business models.” Stayzilla had raised about $34 million across four rounds of funding, including a round in May. The company will focus now on building tools for the supply side of homestays. (See our story.)
In other grim news, the Wall Street Journal reports that Swedish investment group Kinnevik is halving its holding in Rocket Internet, an investment vehicle that has funded many startups that have turned out to be unprofitable. Some Rocket Internet businesses that are travel-specific (and say they’re doing well) are TravelBird, Tripda, Traveloka, Jovago, and Clickbus. It will take time for the impact of that Kinnevik’s move to ripple through the startup ecosystem.
Each week we create a roundup of travel startups that have received or announced funding that week. The total amount raised this week was more than $64.8 million.
>>AirMap, which provides airspace services for drones, is not strictly a travel startup. But airports are its top customers for its tools that let consumer drone operators know where it’s safe to fly and that professional drone operators, such as the authorized ones used to service aircraft or patrol security perimeters, know where they can fly in restricted areas.
Microsoft Ventures, Airbus Ventures, Qualcomm Ventures, Rakuten, Sony, and Yuneec joined existing investors General Catalyst and Lux Capital in the $26 million Series B round, which brings total investment in AirMap to more than $43 million.
>>TravelCar, a company that offers peer-to-peer car sharing at airports, has raised 15 million euros ($15.8 million), with the PSA group and MAIF participating. That brings the Paris-based startup, formerly known as TravelerCar, to a total of $22.2 million raised.
In April, it will debut its services at airports in Los Angeles and San Francisco, bringing the European operation Stateside. It enters a space formerly popularized in the U.S. by FlightCar, which last summer shut down its service at 12 U.S. airports after being bought by Mercedes-Benz. TravelCar has more than 200 offices in 10 countries in Europe. CEO Ahmed Mhiri says the company has more than 300,000 users. Other competitors with overlapping services include Drivy, Turo, OuiCar, and Tripndrive.
>>Haoqiao, a business-to-business hotel booking platform founded in 2013, has received 120 million renminbi ($17 million) in a just-closed Series B round. The Beijing-based company, previously backed by IDG Capital, provides traditional and online travel agencies with structured information on international hotels through its booking portal and API service. The company’s tools make price comparison, booking and service easier for agents.
>>NIDA Rooms, which describes itself as Asia’s largest budget hotel virtual operator, has received a $5.6 million investment. Participants in the Series A round include Shanda Group. The company, founded in September 2015, has raised $11 million, to date.
Based in Jakarta, Indonesia, NIDA Rooms follows the “branded budget” hotel model that OYO Rooms and others are proving successful in India and elsewhere. It affiliates hotels under a standardized experience (working wifi, cleanliness) and markets them through a standard website. It has signed up hotels in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines.
>>UTrip, a travel-planning platform, has closed a $4 million Series A investment round. Backers include Plug and Play, Tiempo Capital, Acorn Ventures, SWAN Venture Fund and W&W Capital. The company says the investment “will further enhance mobile applications for end users, enrich the company’s machine learning capabilities, and achieve automation of white-label infrastructure.”
Founded in Seattle in 2012, Utrip’s applies predictive technology to a database of recommendations collected from destination experts and creates relevant itineraries for travelers. The company claims a 100 percent customer retention over the last three years among its 50 partners, such as Starwood Hotels and Holland America Line.
>>Paracompare aims to be a one-stop-shop for booking all forms of transport, such as taxi, buses, and parking — with an emphasis on busy destinations around European cities, such as airports, cruise terminals, and event spaces.
