percy being so genuinely terrified of his power and annabeth's reaction to him when it happened, loving annabeth so much but also being so scared of hurting her and ending up becoming like luke, just consumed by his power and the possibilities of what he is able to do.

but then you have annabeth who, while recognizing the changes in percy and what he's been through, knows in her soul that he's still the twelve year old boy she fell in love with, completely and utterly head over heels for him. she knows that they both have changed, but they both will always be exactly what the other knows and needs.

this line and the way penelope sings it specifically just makes me immediately think of the Judo Flip, annabeth being so utterly furious for the briefest of moments before fading to utter joy and relief, because despite the difference in each other, she sees that same silly smile on percy's face, their kiss still feels the same, everything feels exactly how it did eight months before.

but also just the song in general within the context of the heroes of olympus timeline, with percy and annabeth having only been really dating + aware of each other's feelings for roughly four months or so before percy's taken away, so eight months later, the two of them rediscovering their feelings for each other and learning about each other in new ways, with annabeth having received the mark of athena and percy being thrown into a new world all alone
