Smoke 'Em If You've Got 'Em (Cuz It's Going Down)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Louis Tomlinson/Harry Styles (background Liam/Zayn, Niall/Shawn, Karlie/Taylor)
WC: 43.5k
Rating: E
Summary:
Louis hates his life on Astra. There's nothing there for him, even though the planetary colony, with all its twisting metal corridors and glass domes is all he's known. There are familiar faces there, sure; Niall, the bartender at The Black Dog, and Harry, the Security guard, who always shows up at the most inopportune moments. Louis wouldn't qualify himself as a smuggler, although Taylor's gang on Starlancer (who are definitely smugglers) are the closest thing he's ever had to a rival. When tech mogul Liam Payne offers him a job he just can't turn down, he needs to put his differences with Starlancer aside to get enough credits to leave the planet and get his crew licence, leaving Astra in his dust. Of course, no plan concocted by him was going to go off without a single hitch, but he hadn't expected to fall in love with his home planet, and the people there, all over again.
My submission for @1dastroficfest for Two of Wands, Six of Cups, and (if you really squint) Eight of Swords.
Read it now on AO3

Another Artfight attack, probably my last one for the year (unless I get something done quickly today)
This has been one of the biggest pieces I have ever made, it took me anywhere between 22 and 32 hours over the course of the last two and a half weeks. There were a lot of things happening in between working on this which is why I’m not entirely sure about the time. The full timelapse video is 16 minutes long. I’m really glad I pivoted from trying to make this into a comic, I don’t know that I would’ve finished it if I had. This is one of the only pieces with full shading I did this artfight, I didn’t draw in a light source but I really tried to work off of one. Even though I had a reference photo for the sketch, a lot of these poses were new to me and some were difficult to figure out (a couple of legs are missing, and one of the mugs are weird)
Overall I wanted to draw a bunch of pirates (loosely inspired by a scene in Bloody Cape) and that’s what I did and I’m pretty pleased with how this turned out

Worldbuilding #24
Strategic bombers with the 10th Bomber Squadron based out of Holmgrad. (c1007)
The EkO B series was a high altitude swing-wing bomber designed by Baltimare Design Bureau during the late 970s. It saw widespread service as the premiere long range strike platform of the Anti-Tirek Coaltion with the aviation branch of the Mustang Security Council. Between 988 and 991, B.I and B.II bombers flew 1000 sorties a year on average and were effective in hitting concentrations of Tirek forces in most visibility conditions. It was upgraded after the war and B.III models continued life in the Mustang Air Corps. It was nicknamed “Starlance” by Mustang crews.

Sealed with a Kiss [Hawkeye x Riesz | AO3]
Today's Hawkeye x Riesz is called "Sealed with a Kiss"
Tumblr media
Summary:
But not a day goes by where I don't think of you.
He lifted his quill once more, chuckling to himself. The line was cheesy, but it was honest and true. If he could say it to her now, at this very moment, he would, in a heartbeat.
Hawkeye is on a journey around the world, searching for seedlings that would help restore Nevarl. Riesz remains in Laurent as the heir to the throne, spearheading the recovery efforts for her kingdom.
Two hearts, two lovers drawn apart by distance and fate. Brought together by paper and quill.
Sealed with a kiss.

"Coffee with two creams, please, easy on the sugar?" I froze upon hearing that voice, though my civvies (rumpled hoodie, jeans, scuffed boots) and my posture (hunched, about as ragged as my hoodie) hid it. I think. I hope.
Hope that was answered when I sensed no change in attitude from the voice's owner.
Hope that was then put back on the chopping block when the voice's owner slumped into the stool next to me.
I risked a glance. Yep. Starlance. Wouldn't have guessed it from her civvies (greatcoat, sneakers, and that's all I could see), but you get to know a face when you see it in grappling range all the time. Lucky me, she wasn't looking my way. Guess she was about as worn out as I was; not surprising, considering the fight we'd had an...hour?...ago.
So now, there's the question asked. What do I do about this?
Get up and do a restroom escape? I wouldn't trust myself to make it look good right now. Hunch up more? That'd just draw attention. Try a sneak attack? Fucking stupid; don't shit where you eat. Could just keep my head down.
My mouth wouldn't let me.
"Hey, mind if I get a refill?" I say, jiggling my empty coffee cup.
There was a bit of satisfaction when I saw Starlance jolt a bit, her eyes finally flicking over to me. There were a few tense seconds during which we furtively checked each other in between aiming our eyes back down, then she broke the silence.
"Good fight last time."
I reflexively nursed my jaw, fighting not to smirk when I saw her shift her hand to rub at her side. "...Thanks...? You too. I guess."
She sighed, suddenly concerned with getting a crick out of her neck. "Sorry, yeah, I know, that's weird."
"Don't worry about it. Let's just keep it quiet, get our midnight munch, and get home safe. Fair deal?"
"Yeah..."
She tried to settle down, flipping through the menu. The waitress came back with our drinks, and I found myself a little surprised when Starlance suddenly looked up, all smiles.
"Hey, thanks so much."
Huh. That wasn't her press voice. God, I could feel the Good Customer vibes radiating.
The waitress took it in stride. "Not a problem, hon. Need a minute to decide?"
"Yeah, sorry."
"Don't worry about it! Just lemme know."
With that, she walked away to keep an eye on the kids playing some card game in a booth.
Before Starlance could get back to the menu, I found myself piping up again. "Chicken tenders."
"Huh?" she blinked, looking over.
I pointed at my currently-half-finished plate. "Personal recommendation. Chicken tenders, potato omelette on the side. Ask for the Jersey sauce, extra. Best fucking thing I've ever had."
She scanned the menu, made that Not Bad expression, and nodded.
"...Sure, fuck it," she said, flagging down the waitress and making her order. A few more extremely awkward minutes passed with her looking like she had something to say, but she kept quiet. Finally, I couldn't take it.
"Well? This is our bonding moment, right? What's goin' on?"
She took a moment to get it sorted, took a sip of the coffee (not a fan, but she hid it well), and then said, "...My team's getting...funded."
"That...sounds way better to me than it clearly sounds to you."
It was no secret that Starlance's team was basically a potluck. Handmade outfits, gadgets. Hell, if any of us cared, we'd probably be able to trace each other just by checking what went missing at the local convenience stores, or whoever spent ten hours on the library's 3D printer that week. You'd think that they'd leap at the chance for actual money.
"No, I mean...it's getting funded. Like. Officially."
That caught my attention. "You mean the cops."
Still had no idea why she was worried, but I was too, now. That probably meant serious hardware. APC, martial arts training, whatever else on top of what they already had. Starlance herself could have used armor last time, and she knew it.
"Look," she began, "there was something you told me last year, and it's kind of stuck with me."
"Mm?"
"Yeah, about how we were all just gangs, fighting for turf."
I remembered that. I was hurting from something The Wilder was saying during the fight, something like how they were better than us, so I just yelled back without thinking about it.
Seeing me nod, she kept on. "Look, I don't think it's like...100% true, but I get what you meant. We're all just trying to make it, y'know? Whatever works. No judgments right now, honest. I just mean..."
Another sip of coffee. "...I mean we decided on stuff. You remember that time you got away with lifting Lucky Verdano's gemstone collection?"
I did. Not only did it keep the fridge full for months, seeing him ghostwrite every op-ed on every news site he owned (every both of them) bitching about safety that week was the funniest thing I'd ever seen.
"We had you dead to rights. Screentime was set to cut you off, but he made it look like you gave us the slip."
"Oh, c'mon, that's sour grapes."
"Okay, a bit of both. He didn't have to try that hard. Still, we could've kept the chase up, but we didn't want to. Lucky deserved worse than he got. The point I'm trying to make is now, now that we're 'official', we won't get to make those calls any more. We're just lackeys for the biggest gang in town."
I was about to interject, but then realized something.
"You never left us for the cops. Ever."
"Like I said, a bit of both. You guys are good at getaways. But we won't get that now. We'll have to chase you. Prison...look, I've got my reasons; I don't want anyone in there."
Conveniently for her, her order arrived just then, and two bites in she had decided I was right about the food.
I gave her a bit to finish chewing. "Who decided on 'getting funded', then?"
"Majority decision. Screentime, Blackmold, and I got outvoted. People just didn't want to have to struggle any more, and some of them...well, they think it means we're getting validated."
"Shit."
"Yeah, shit. That's why I'm leaving."
I took a moment to swallow. "You realize that opens you up to the same shit we get, right? Doesn't matter how clean your noses are, you're gonna get pushed to play ball."
"I know, but we'll figure something out. I mean, Screentime has an OnlyFans-"
Once more, my mouth moved on its own. "Look, there's a reason everyone goes easy on Screentime."
"I'm guessing the fridge wasn't the only thing your heist went into," she grinned, which I found myself liking. She never had one that shit-eating in the field. Looked nice on her.
"Okay, you look at Screentime, wearing his spandex with the cutouts, you start asking questions about yourself! That's all I'm saying."
I played it up, a little. It felt...right. It was our big bonding moment, after all.
She seemed to agree, fanning herself dramatically when she wasn't shoveling potato, egg, and sauce into her mouth. "Oh, trust me, I know. The funny thing is, that makes my next question even better."
"Hm?"
"You wanna join up with us?"
I coughed as some of the lukewarm coffee went down the wrong pipe. "You shoot that question at everyone who put you in the hospital last year?"
"Sorry, I wasn't gonna, I just thought...this moment we're having."
"I don't even know what that means. What, I just stop doing heists, start 'crime-busting', switch all my social media, that type of thing?"
"Let's call it aiming at riper targets. We can start by emptying The Wilder's slush fund. Blackmold's got some ideas going forward too."
Made sense. It was funny, too. I didn't mind it, but none of it answered what I eventually asked, after maybe fifteen minutes finishing my plate.
"...Why me?"
She took the same time on hers, which I couldn't fault. This night really needed it, even before all the drama bombs.
Finally, she quit pushing the last bits around on her plate. "...We're all gangs fighting for turf. Fighting to make our lives better. I've known you for how long's it been, ten years now? We've been in the mud. I know how your knee bends better than your doctor does. Right now, I trust you more than a lot of people I know."
The last bit landed pretty hard, considering...recently-shared news. How do I even respond to that?
"You could be making a mistake. How do you know Jaw's not in the parking lot waiting to jump you?"
She dug in her coat pocket for her phone, then showed me the screen.
"Because I saw her and half your crew at the orientation this afternoon."
....oh.
She continued, "Part of the city's 'Reclaiming Our Streets' program. They're gonna call a meeting and set up one more job, and then you'll get circled. A big victory for law and justice. Then you'll be given an ultimatum. Either join up with them, or you disappear."
"...and why wouldn't I take that job?"
"I'm not gonna answer that for you. I wanted you to have a chance to decide."
I looked down at the menu for a while, pretending to think about dessert.
"...Show me your phone again. I need to know who I shouldn't call."
"Does that mean what I think it means?"
"No promises. Nothing else, we get a chance to scatter."
"Good point. I'll try to keep in touch."
Paying the bill went fast, and we both stopped at the entrance, deciding to leave a few minutes between us. As I slunk off, I kept an eye out as I reached for my phone.
It was time for me to make a choice.
A villain nurses their loss in a quiet diner when an equally tired person enters, and orders a coffee in a very familiar voice.
