Any dakota/starkota headcannons you wouldn’t mind sharing?
Sure! It’s been a sec I wanna get back into the uni au
Starlet vapes, dakota is very much not a smoker and just kinda vibes when she goes to the smoking area when they’re out
Speaking of going out, neither are the most sociable people but spoons with their friends is usually enough to make them down to go clubbing (usually getting roped in by sminty)
Dakota is a huge gamer, starlet is the kinda person who just drives into the wall in Mario kart. It’s cute how much she sucks tbh
They’re both somewhere on the aro spectrum and that’s why they find so much comfort in each other, that and being very similar
They’re in a weird not dating not interest other people limbo for months before anyone makes the first move
Dakota lives off of granola bars, starlet is more or a redbull girl
Dakota keeps a stock of redbull in her fridge, starlet keeps bars in her cupboard bc they’re at each other’s flats most nights of them week
Dakota hates sleeping alone that’s her excuse for why she always ends up sharing a bed with starlet
It is in fact not platonic

Loveless - (dakota/starlet)
Hi remember me saying I’d post on Christmas? I didn’t lie for once. Big Aromantic vibes in this one or I’m just projecting idk
Ao3 link
Fil coming back to the flat with a grin on his face and lipstick on their neck said all it needed to and Danny launched into an all out assault asking for the details.
Why did the topic of romance make her so uncomfortable? Why couldn’t she just be normal and feel like everyone else did. What could a partner do that a friend couldn’t? It made no sense and just reminded her of being an outsider as she always had been.
“You’re trying to live through me because you can’t get any” Fil laughed, Dakota glancing up to see Danny staring back in shock.
“Excuse you! I’m irresistible!” Danny barked back, the loud scouse accent making Dakota jump slightly.
“You sure are,” Cheddar nodded
Their relationship always confused them, they’d known each other for a long time being from two close by cities and being queer. Dakota had seen them kiss many times, sure, but figuring out what it meant was beyond her.
“You’re also cocky,”
“That is also true.”
Snickering at Cheddar's comment was a bad idea in hindsight as Danny’s eyes narrowed on Dakota, a sly smile growing on their lips as her heart leapt into her throat.
“Oh Dakota, what about you? You’re always very quiet on the topic of relationships. Are you secretly dating someone?”
The attention turning to them made the blonde want to bolt out of the room then and there but that would be too suspicious. What the hell could get them off her back but not clue them in on their inner turmoil.
“Uh, I’m just not very interested in dating. It’s too complicated. I'd rather use my energy on other things.” She put on her best uncaring act, not making Cheddar give her the look. It must have been a success even if they were fooled.
“Like rocks?”
“…Maybe.” Honestly geography was easier to understand than romance. At least there were textbooks and essays on it.
“Wait, you and Starlet aren’t dating?”
“No, why would you think that?” The geniune confusion in her voice took everyone aback, staring at her with the most how the fuck look she’d ever seen.
“What?”
“Okay one of you two tell her because I don’t think I can answer this without exploding.”
“How did you not realise you two act like a couple?”
“Oh Dakota, dear.”
Dakota could feel herself close to tears at the looks she was being given, everything was overwhelming why couldn’t they leave this topic alone.
But what was she doing wrong to give them that impression? Her and Starlet were close, sure but romance wasn’t on her mind; she was just their best friend.
“Okay, for one she always calls you darling and honey, no one else just you. The way you look at her like she’s the only person in the world, you’re always holding hands and cuddling when we have movie nights. The fact she’s here half the time sleeping in your room. It does kinda give relationship I can’t lie.” Fil spoke up, weary as Dakota stared back in wide eyed shock.
“We’re just friends, you can do all that stuff with your friends.”
“You can, sorry for assuming that.” Cheddar spoke softly, noticing the defensive tone in the blonde's voice. Dakota could feel herself about to crack, giving an unconvincing “it’s okay” before shooting up and leaving the flat with only the cardigan on her and her keys.
She needed space, focusing on keeping her breaths slow and steady as she sped down the stairs and out of the building, walking aimlessly around campus and cursing herself for not grabbing something warmer as the autumn air crept around her. At least the sunset was pretty, sight calming them enough to text Starlet and ask her to meet them on the bench that overlooked the whole of their campus.
Sitting there and people watching was one of Dakota’s favourite things. Staring as people came back from studying but feeling that same sinking feeling in her stomach as people kissed and held hands.
What was wrong with her? Why was this so foreign? Was she broken?
Starlet arrived just in time to stop her spiralling, putting a supportive hand on their shoulder and pulling Dakota into a warm embrace.
“Are you okay?”
“They asked me about romance and I panicked.”
“Oh god, I got that too.” She sat down next to Dakota, keeping their hands intertwined as she turned to face her.
“Am I broken?” Her voice cracked, the feelings she’d been holding back breaking out as tears clouded her vision.
“No, you’re just different than them. You’re not the only one. Everything you’ve said, I feel it too. Relationships are so complicated why do they have so many unwritten rules that make you a couple? Why can’t people just be friends?”
“I know right! I can get everything I’d get out of a partner from a friend.”
“You can! It’s so stupid how everyone is so focused on only one type of love.” None of if made sense to Starlet, that was one of the things her and Dakota had bonded over. Romance was so confused what was the point?
She then noticed how Dakota shivered as a strong gust of wind blew by, quickly plucking the hoodie out of her bag and passing it to the taller girl.
“I’m fine.” Her words were hollow as her body continued to tremble as the wind picked up again.
“You’re shivering, put it on.”
“But-“
“Dakota.” Starlets voice was sharp, making her shrink back and slide the hoodie on, thankful for the warmth even if it was hard to accept help sometimes.
“Hey, when it’s cold you become Dakota Shiver,” Starlet grinned, laughing as Dakota shoved her side lightly.
“You’re so stupid,” Dakota smiled at her fondly, a sight that always made Starlets smile grow wider. Her face just exuded joy sometimes and it was her favourite thing to see.
Dakota leant into her, letting Starlet wrap her arms around her torso to keep them close. She appriciated the silence, nestled up against the one person who understood her. Her mind wandered, wondering how she got so lucky to find someone on the exact same wavelength. Maybe that was what drew her in at first, a magnetic force of being kindred spirits and deep down knowing they were exceptionally compatible.
Her eyes fell on the smaller blonde, noticing the small smile on her lips as she gazed off, her thumb gently caressing the spot it rested on her thigh.
Dakota’s thoughts lingered on her earlier point, getting everything she could want from a friend, soemone who wouldn’t assume that her affection was flirting and not just a platonic display of love.
Someone like Starlet. Who got it.
Dakota kept her eyes trained on her, unconsciously smiling when her gaze flicked down to meet her stare.
Starlet raised an eyebrow, half expecting Dakota to say something though they stayed silent, contemplative or something.
She sat up, only then realising how close their faces were, Dakota’s desire for touch won out as she leant forward and planted a kiss onto Starlet’s cheek.
Starlet felt her whole body warm at the act, returning the gesture to a smiling, giggling Dakota who wrapped their arms back around and returned to the spot nestled against her chest.
“Don’t need a partner, I’ve got you.” She murmured, staring up at Starlet with a warm gaze.
“And I have you too.”

Six sentance Sunday but I’m posting on mobile so no title (also it’s 3:43am so it’s kinda Monday rn) uk4 time :))
“So where’s your other flatmate?” Dakota glanced around the room, enjoying the quiet before the hectic sounds of getting ready for a night out started and everyone started coming back from their classes.
“Honestly I haven't seen much of her, she’s not really the social type I think. She spends most of her time in her room though once we did have a long conversation about local bus routes.” Sminty shrugged, still wondering how someone could have possibly memorised the entire local areas bus maps after only having lived there a week.
“She sounds interesting.”
“If you’re interested in busses, then sure.” Dakota caught onto the dull tone in her friend’s voice, wondering if her flatmate really was as dull as she seemed to think. They had all just moved away from their families, surely it would take time to settle in and come out of their shells.
Perhaps that was her fascination, and not the fact she’d seen the blonde in passing and couldn’t take her eyes off of her. Or how much effort it took to not gawk when Sminty showed a picture of all of them the first night they moved in and got to know each other.
“Maybe I want to know about buses, it sounds helpful.”
“You’re just a useless lesbian.”
“Hey! I’m bisexual.”
“Same difference, god damn when are Baby and Peppa getting back.”
“And I’m the hopeless lesbian? You’re the one who has a crush on two of your flatmates.”

comfort - dakota/starlet
Finally got round to writing a uk4 fic, I needed to write dakota I love her so much and I wanted to project the horrors of uni
Also ortegas uk2 uni au is a big influence on me
ao3 link
Dakota didn’t need to say much, gesturing to her laptop with a half-written essay and limply gesturing to herself.
“You’re stressed and feel self-critical?” Starlet tried to pry some understanding out of a silent Dakota, watching as they sat down on the bed and immediately pulled their legs in to hide their face. She nodded, flopping onto her side as Starlet came to sit down next to her. The hand that was supportively placed on her back was enough to break the dam. Tears started pouring out faster than her brain could process, broken sobs working their way out of her shaking body, rattling with the intensity of letting it all out. “Darling, come here,” Starlet spoke up again, pulling Dakota into her arms and letting them release all the pent-up emotions.
Dakota couldn’t hold back the flood of emotion that overcame her despite her attempts. Every cry came with a shuddering breath that made her shake evermore. Everything around her was starting to fade as the anxiety began to bubble up, the only feelings she was aware of being the sickness pooling in her stomach and the muffled sound of Starlet’s attempts to comfort her.
“It’s okay, I’m here. You’re okay.” Her words were like a dull blade, barely cutting through the layers of panic, though Dakota appreciated the attempt. Perhaps she would laugh at the fact she could barely hear her at another time. Being soft-spoken was a death sentence against someone whose thoughts raced louder than any words could.
Starlet refocused her efforts, realising the blonde couldn’t hear her. Her hands did the talking, one running through their golden locks as the other wrapped supportively around their waist.
It seemed to be working, as Dakota’s shuddering breaths started to even out, slowly but surely beginning to come down from her panic. She focused as much as she could on the feeling of Starlet stroking her hair, leaning her head into her hand as the tightness in her chest began to relax, the sadness dissipating into a wave of calmness that washed over her.
Her relaxation was short-lived though, as she moved to look at Starlet the floodgates opened again, unable to stop herself from crying. Something about the concern on her face just broke the last line of defense Dakota had managed to build up.
“One of those days?” She asked, Dakota only nodding in response, unable to trust her mouth being able to form noises that weren’t just sobs.
Her tears kept coming, though she had enough control now to curl up against Starlet, letting the smaller girl wrap her arms around her and burying herself in her arms.
Dakota knew better than to try and explain everything, whenever the words tried to come out all that would happen would be more tears and any attempts at words fell to unintelligible noises.
How was she supposed to explain it all? Dysphoria was a strange beast, rearing its head at the most inopportune times and leaving her unable to function any time she could see her own reflection at its worst.
The stress of deadlines wasn’t helping, pouring hours over research about topics any sane person would find boring began to warp her mind. Dakota couldn’t help but wonder who would ever like someone like them, someone so broken and unable to see anything good in themself. Let alone someone whose only real skill seemed to be facts about rock formations.
The geography degree wasn’t doing her any favours.
Suddenly an idea struck Starlet, moving one of her arms from around Dakota to get something up on her phone. They whined at the lack of contact, burrowing deeper against her. The sound of a familiar song made Dakota pause, erupting in muffled laughter when she realised what it was.
“Your response to me having a breakdown was to play animal crossing music?” Whether it was laughter or sobs was unknown to Starlet but to hear Dakota at the very least able to speak was enough for her.
“It worked didn’t it?” Her voice cut through Dakota’s chaotic brain to deliver some sense of calm. It wasn’t an instant cure but she was helping.
“I guess so.” They let out another soft laugh, smiling hopefully at Starlet as if she was the only person who’d ever mattered to her.
That look was the one that always melted her, the big warm blue eyes that crinkled slightly when Dakota geniunely smiled, the wide grin she always did and the way her head tilted back slightly despite the fact she was taller. It was impossible to look at that face and not be immediately enamoured.
“You really are beautiful, you know that?” Starlet spoke almost in a whisper, as if voicing her thoughts any louder would send this gentle atmosphere crashing down.
Dakota’s face flushed, she could feel her cheeks heating up at the way the comment came out of nowhere but she’d be lying if she said it didn’t make her feel better.
In response Starlet just shot her an amused look, waiting for the comfortable silence to wane before her face shifted, a sly grin on her lips.
Dakota didn't take notice until she felt a sudden poke in her side, letting out a high pitched squeal in reaction and staring wide eyed at the blonde who couldn’t hold back her laughter .
“Starlet!”
“Dakota.” At the smug tone of voice, Dakota retaliated, throwing herself at the smaller girl and tickling her sides. Starlet squirmed, erupting into giggles that just made Dakota laugh even more.
She moved one hand to grasp Starlet's wrists as she prepared to strike back, moving her focus to her stomach as starlet hunched over with a cacophony of laughter that made Dakota smile ever harder.
Alas, Starlet pretty easily managed to wriggle her way out of the taller girl’s grasp as she let up, wasting no time in bolting upright and tackling Dakota down onto the bed, holding her down with one hand as the other continued to go for her side.
The high pitched giggles turned into screeching laughter from Dakota, knowing well that her flatmates could certainly hear and would grill her for it later. Though her mind couldn’t focus on that too heavily as Starlet continued her assault.
What felt like hours, though was more likely minutes, Starlet stayed atop her and tickling her sides as Dakota flailed but never got close to throwing her off.
Eventually she subsided, huffing as she flopped down beside Dakota.
“Thank you,” Dakota turned to face Starlet, both of their faces red from the laughter. That was the only reason, totally not the close proximity they were at. Had nothing to do with it.
“No worries, I couldn’t have you being sad now could I?”
“You’re so stupid.” The warmth in her tone contradicted her words as Dakota pulled Starlet into her arms, leaning her head atop of hers and letting out a content hum.
“Mmmm, can’t wait to hear what Danny has to say about how loudly you were giggling.”
“Oh god, I’m not going to live this down for a while.” Dakota shuddered as she realised her most boisterous flatmate was definitely home right now and had absolutely heard everything.
“And I’m going to love watching them grill you for hours on end.” Starlet smirked, snickering as Dakota lightly swatted at her.
“You’re so mean!”
“No you’re just too nice”
“Am not!” The sheer childishness in Dakota’s tone made Starlet laugh once again, shaking her head to attempt to form a response.
“You cried when you thought you stepped on a snail,”
“I didn’t want to hurt him!” Dakota cringed at the memory. It was dark, how was she supposed to know? It was wet and she heard a crunch. It made logical sense that it could be a poor defneseless snail that she killed.
“It was a leaf.” Starlet stated simply, curling further into the blonde’s side.
“Oh my god shut up!” Dakota couldn’t help but laugh more, at least she had one person who could cheer her up on her darkest days.

Extra long six sentance Sunday/Monday bc j forgot to post my wip wed too, some uni au I still haven’t fully sorted into chapters yet but there’s content coming soon I promise;

Idk why but I feel like when starkota start dating when don’t really tell anyone cause people already assume they are dating. So I’m imagining one random night they are just hanging out with dakota roommates and starlet has to go so they kiss and everyone just stares at them in shock
Yeah, part of it is a comfort thing, Dakota is still coming to terms with her identity and starlet doesn’t wanna be super open right away, but they kinda forget and get used to kissing especially on the lips and eveyrone is shook when they first see it happen
Cheek kisses aren’t odd bc they do it all the time pre dating but the long lasting lip kisses? Yeah those raise an eyebrow

Omg the little stolen kisses between Dakota and starlet before they are out to their roommates
Very much looking around seeing no one will see and making the most of those short moments, the second they get into one of their rooms it’s all kisses and sweet talk. Dakota has a hard time keeping her hands to herself when they’re with their housemates, the second she gets starlet alone she can’t stop kissing her for hours. If she had her way they’d stay there for the whole day, just the two of them being as close as they want and no eyes on them

I can actually see Dakotas classmates thinking Starlet is her girlfriend because of how much messages those two exchange in like an afternoon
Honestly, starlet replies to no one as much as she does dakota, it’s every few minutes her phone buzzes with a few messages, sometimes rapidly. A running joke is dakota always having a text from starlet to answer and honestly it’s true. If they’re not togehter they’re texting

Their roommates making snarky comments (specially Danny let’s be real) about how close they are and they just blush or panic internally (uni au)
Danny fr!!!! Poor dakota deals with their shit every day, Sminty is similar too tbh but a lil more forgiving
Also they’re always together so any time dakota is alone for a long perionof time danny is like oh where’s starlet I thought she lived here

Oh I’m living for the soft touches and the caught glanced across the room in the starkota uni
They’re all soft touches, caught glances that make them both smile and blush and near constantly holding hands or right next to each other
One thing is when they finally do date it’s like nothings changed bc they’ve been attached at the hip since freshers and spend many nights at the others flat, sharing a bed in a totally platonic way
Completely platonic cuddling, totally.

Thinking about uni au in which they are on a coffee shop and some old lady just talks about how cute of a couple they and they just get all awkward about it
Yesyesyes canon def happens
Dakota is like oh uh- we’re not- but the lady doesn’t buy it and insists it’s okay for two girls to date and they’re adorable together
Starlet doesn’t really know how to react, but eventually she kinda just shrugs and thanks the woman to get it other with thought after they both can’t stop blushing and mumbling
