Don’t Rush the Main Quest in Starfield
Absolutely stop telling people to rush the main quest - I understand it gets clicks - if you’re searching for the guidance on quest order because you want better quest quality - When Sarah Morgan walks you to get into from the space marines and they hint you to join them - do it (or if you passed it, go back to New Atlantis and Join at the front counter of MAST). They send you to a museum shouting Lore for People in a Hurry and then after the first quest the UC sends you on you will meet a character that has a much more interesting quest-line than anything I’ve found so far.
Your personal context with American history and geography is what makes Fallout interesting
The museum gives you context for planets you visit in the main quest. Without it, the only interesting place you’ll have heard of before visiting is Mars. It is so important that it blows my mind that it’s not required or just outside the Lodge. There should be a big flashing arrow. Imagine playing fallout and you didn’t know anything about nukes or even countries. The game loves to put you in bio labs and mech garages and it is only outside the main quest that those spaces have any context to them. That bio labs and mech garages are where the escalation of the war happened. It feels like generic space set dressing without it. Starfield successfully gets across the long term effect of war post-hostilities, but if you rush the main missions you’re gonna have miss it.

One of the most tragic things about the story lore of Starfield is the loss of Earth and everything on it. People in game talk about the billions of human lives lost who never managed to escape the planet before it lost it's atmosphere and yes that is utterly tragic and a whole 'nother ball to untangle . ( why couldnt they get everyone off the planet in 50 years? ) The thing though that makes my heart hurt is knowing humanity and some plants we took with us survived, but nothing else did. (Though there is evidence cats survived thanks to a film poster with a girl holding a cat, but they are not in game...yet). So other than that possibility, every single species of fauna is gone. No more tigers, no more labrador dogs, no more elephants, no more raccoons or butterflies. No one thought to create an ark, an actual working one using dna sequencing and stem cell collection? We know cloning tech exists in game. Crucible and Hadrian Sanon confirm this as does cloning the Aceles. So having an arc bank of species could be possible. Terraforming isnt possible due to the ridiculous cost ( spoken about in game) so a new Earth could never be created, but I'm surprised a billionaire never collated their own menagerie when fleeing Earth. Maybe we'll be surprised in a dlc....

Dodge McCoy, a bounty-tarnished Freestar Ranger, didn’t have much of a choice when it came to being manipulated by the bloody hands of the Crimson Fleet. Because, if he was to resist their demands, he’d be tortured—or worst, flayed by his commander and capturer, Ikande of the UC Navy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
With time, with each visceral mission, from Mathias to Estelle, it became easier to ignore Ikande’s scalding debriefs, to accept the harsh and praising words of his Boss, Delgado. It was only a matter of time before Kryx’s Legacy and the Fleet’s cruelty buried Dodge’s morality in turn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the dawn of the grand battle between two worlds, Dodge was the first to shoot, interrupting Ikande’s command of his imprisonment with a ringing bullet. Although, grav-jumping from the Defense squadron was nothing compared to fleeing the toxic fumes of the Legacy’s collapse. Induced with amps and aurora alike, the subsequent death of the UC Defense all become a murderous rhythm to the swashbuckling Rook.

The REAL Identity of the Pilgrim and Why It DOESN'T Matter! - Starfield Lore by NefasQS | Tbh this video changed my view on the entire main quest line. Turns out it makes perfect sense, I just wasn't paying attention. And it's actually pretty sad, and poetic.

Starfield : Shattered Space DLC
Bethesda Game Studios has long been a cornerstone of the role-playing game industry, crafting worlds that are both expansive and deeply immersive. With titles like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, Bethesda has cultivated a loyal following over decades. However, in 2023, they ventured into uncharted territory with Starfield, their first original universe in over twenty-five years. A space-faring RPG…

we do know Barrett's first name! spoilers below for those who haven't gotten one of his quests:
it's Amundsen, and one of the alternate Barretts goes by it!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Little things I learned about the members of Constellation:
- Andreja feels like an outcast to the rest of the group and doesn’t feel like she’s included in their group activities.
- On the flip side, Barrett will try to invite Andreja to join him and the others in said activities and she always declines (this includes things like movie night, dancing, cooking, listening to music, board games and having drinks together)
- The members all get together to have movie night and take turns picking out the movies
- Andreja tries so hard to make jokes with Barrett but he always knows what she’s gonna say. She gets discouraged but keeps trying
- Barrett and Vlad once spent 5k of Constellation’s credits to throw a party on The Eye
- Sarah is completely against Sam bringing Cora along with him. She suggests leaving Cora with Matteo to ensure her safety. Sam becomes irritated and defensive and says Cora goes with him.
- Sam and Barrett are sports bros and love watching games together. If one of them isn’t around to watch the game, the other will record it so they can watch it together later
- Sam has terrible spelling
- Barrett is actually his last name. His first name starts with A but (as far as I know) we don’t know what the A stands for
- Sarah seems to fill a kind of motherly role of the group, checking in with Barrett after being held hostage by pirates, keeping Sam on track, watching out for Cora, reassuring Andreja, etc
- Sam and Barrett seem to cause the most trouble or make the most mistakes in the group. Barrett will try to joke and laugh it off until Sarah threatens punishment. Sam however can get grumpy and irritated when “Sarah Perfect Morgan” calls him out on it.
- Andreja has some knowledge in cooking
- Barrett does as well and will cook large meals for the group
- Cora will occasionally take some of Barrett’s stuff, usually books, without asking leading to Barrett going to Sam to get them back
- Sam seems to get easily distracted while on missions. “Sam, did you check out that thing I asked you to?” “Well I was going to but then I got caught in a goose chase-” “So did you or not?” “I was going to but then there was this thing-” “Should I just assign someone else?” “Uh that would probably be best”
- Andreja really wants to teach Cora self defense and how to fight and use a weapon. Sam is uncomfortable with it and tries to brush Andreja off. She doesn’t get the hint though
- Sam keeps an open tab at the bookstore in Akila City for Cora. She's supposed to be cut off at 100 credits but tends to overspend
- The stress Sarah is under must be obvious to the other members as multiple members of Constellation will ask if she is doing ok
- Barrett tries to get Noel to join them in space but she declines and reveals how much she is overworking herself. She then admits that she had nothing but her smarts to get her ahead in life
- Sarah is Cora’s favorite member of Constellation. Sam is her second favorite
- Not knowing where Andreja is from and her backstory drives Matteo crazy. He will vent to Sam about it who tells him to let it go and everyone is allowed their secrets
- Aja recruited Barrett into Constellation
- Sarah and Vlad recruited Andreja into Constellation
- At one point in his life, some people called Sam “Sammy”, he now detests the name and “goes by just Sam now”
- While Barrett was grieving, Aja sat with him in his room. He doesn't remember what she said but her presence was comforting and that’s what he remembers most
- Despite not having many credits himself, Sam is willing to help out those in need whether it's loaning credits to Barrett, keeping an open book tab for Cora or donating to those in need.
- Sarah is not afraid to ask Walter for money. They have some banter back and forth but Walter always signs the check
- Nadia at SSNN tries to get Sam to dig up dirt on Jacob. Despite the estranged relationship with his dad, Sam refuses
- Barrett and Sam have both been to jail at least once
- Sam and Sarah have an ongoing debate over which is the superior beer. Sarah suggests they go bar hopping one day to test their theory.

I love space SO much. And it absolutely terrifies me too. If I wasn't terrified of space, and I was good at math, I'd be working at NASA. But even then I won't ever get to explore the galaxy in my lifetime, because we are nowhere near travel that equals the speed of light, and even then, lightspeed is still painfully slow on the cosmic scale.
Did you know that, no matter where we are in humanity, our sun will begin to die billions of years from now? We may all be dead and gone, or we may have evolved into something unrecognizable, or we may still be around. But one day, the Earth will be engulfed by the sun. Or it'll be thrown out of orbit. It'll be the end for Earth. We may have figured out how to go beyond the speed of light by then. We could have discovered that the Einstein-Rosen Bridge theory - wormholes - is real, and we could have used that to bend spacetime to our will and find somewhere new to call home, potentially even new universes.
But we don't know. Earth will likely become uninhabitable before the natural lifespan of our sun can engulf it, as a result of our very human mistakes and actions and impacts.
And... this is just a longwinded way of me saying, that's what Starfield is about.
It's about being human in the face of the divine, in the face of being so so so small in the universe. It's about conflict, the tragedy of it, how it can so easily destroy our humanity before time itself has the chance to. It's about looking at the petty wars between the UC and the Collective and going, "what are they doing? There is plenty of space for us all. This is only our galaxy, what about beyond?" It's about humanity pushing forward for answers about the universe and how they will always resort to the same petty violence over those answers. It's about how you can decide what you do with those answers. It's about looking in the eye of sure destruction that will certainly come one day, and say, "I will live and love in spite of it."
You can certainly become like the Hunter. You can continuously perpetuate the cycle of very human violence because that is all that is left to you, because you have embraced the uselessness of it all. Or you can become like the Pilgrim. You can settle down and bring love and kindness to others, and bring them knowledge, despite the fact that everything is pointless.
We are just starstuff. We come from the stars, and back to the stars we will eventually go, one way or another. And it's up to you to decide if you will embrace that as the only meaning in the universe, or if you will reject the simplicity of that, and embrace humanity, embrace love, embrace compassion, embrace meaning in spite of it all.
That is what Starfield is about. That's what it is about to me. And I love it.

starfield is very fun, but it continues the modern Bethesda tradition of mixing some truly wild game design choices with some basic ass writing

I have so many lists of ideas and WIPs and concepts that one day will turn into more works. (just in the notes of my phone, don't get me started on my journal)
But until then I will stare at them fondly.
Anyway
Here's a picture of Hasan from today

1-OF-A-KIND SALVAGE // Planet Niira
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Few settled worlds were left untouched by the Colony War, but nowhere could the viciousness of modern warfare be seen more clearly than on the Freestar planet of Niira. Initially occupied by invading United Colonies Forces as a forward operating position, repeated attempts to take and retake the planet by Collective forces led only to devastation. Swathes of the world were transformed into scorched husks, a nightmarish testament to the depths of human ingenuity and human cruelty. Today Niira remains a continuing reminder to the horrors of unfettered war."
The UC's History of the Settled Systems 1st Floor M.A.S.T. Building in New Atlantis, Jemison

Regardless of your opinion on Starfield I need everyone to stop comparing it to Star Wars they have very little in common aside from space travel and having "star" in the name

2330 A.D. - STARFIELD BEGINS
We’re getting close now.
Bethesda Game Studios has published “The Story So Far” on the Starfield website chronicling the events that lead us to the start of the game.
In the universe of Starfield, humanity arrives on Mars in 2050 and begin living in space by 2100. Another 56 years go by before humans get to Alpha Centauri and that’s when this story really opens up.
There are a lot of entries about Constellation, the group you will be working with in the game to understand what’s out there in the vastness of the starfield. All of it makes me more excited than I already was to get into this game.
You can scroll through the story on the official Starfield page (scroll down a bit to find it.)
