Starfield Alternatives for PlayStation Plus Subscribers
Tumblr media
The long-awaited game, Starfield, has finally arrived for some lucky players. However, it's worth noting that this epic space adventure is exclusively available on Xbox Series X/S consoles, leaving console-only players without one of Microsoft's latest systems in search of alternatives. Fortunately, Sony's PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscription service offers some compelling gaming options.
1. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Tumblr media
For those craving a choice-driven RPG experience, revisiting Bethesda Game Studios' classic, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, is a timeless choice. With its expansive open world, numerous character classes, rich lore, and captivating stories, Skyrim has cemented its status as one of the finest fantasy RPGs. While many have likely ventured into Skyrim's landscapes already, it remains a go-to game for scratching that Western RPG itch.
2. Prey
Tumblr media
Prey, developed by Arkane Studios (also owned by ZeniMax Media, like Bethesda), offers a different yet immersive experience. As a sci-fi horror game and immersive sim, Prey combines chills with versatile gameplay mechanics. Players must navigate a space-bound horror adventure armed with various tools to overcome challenges, including a roguelike mode for added replayability. If Starfield's sandbox potential appeals to you, Prey's space horror playground might be the perfect fit.
3. Starlink: Battle for Atlas
Tumblr media
Starlink: Battle for Atlas offers an intriguing alternative for those fascinated by space exploration. This game features galaxy-exploring gameplay, allowing players to traverse space and planetary surfaces in customizable spacecraft. Originally a toys-to-life game, it's now available to PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers without the need for physical toys. If you're craving space exploration and don't mind a game primarily set in a customizable spaceship, give Starlink: Battle for Atlas a shot.
4. Star Wars: Bounty Hunter
Tumblr media
For gamers with a penchant for older titles, Star Wars: Bounty Hunter offers a space bounty hunter fantasy reminiscent of Starfield. This LucasArts game, originally released for PS2 and GameCube in 2002 (remastered for PS4 in 2016), stars Jango Fett and provides insight into the bounty hunter's activities before Attack of the Clones. While the game's camera

So after watching some video's by Captain Mack, to learn about what the hell even happens in Starfields story...I learned that the combination of this game's ending and Bethesda's laziness have created what is accidentally the most toxically nihlistic message I have ever seen in a video game.
Basically there is a point where you join a group called "Constellation" and one of four people in the group with you will die. It is chosen by some kind of "Affection" metric, basically whoever you had hung around and spoke to the most prior to the death event, would die. Then MUCH later on, you would run into a version of that same character, from another timeline, called The Emmisary. With their backstory being they finished the main storyline of their Starfield game after YOU were the one who died. The issue is, The Emmisary doesn't have any differences in behavior, equipment, or personality, depending on who died. The Emmisary is a non-fluid character. So whoever they were in "your" timeline is irrelevant.
The gimmick of the ending is you find the center of the universe, and make yourself a "Starborn", a being who is now a constant entity in every reality. Meaning that you get sent into a new game+ and can beat the game an infinite number of times....the Nihlism comes into play when you realize that your actions have almost no impact on anything ever. The games fundamental message in it's writing is that there are infinite universes with infinite possiblities, and as a result ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN! But the gameplay has 0 variation in it. Meaning that in all the infinite realms of possibility...nothing you do, nothing anyone has ever done, and possibly ever will do, will change anything.
Holy FUCK is that such a terrible case of ludonarrative dissonance.

Reviewers Requesting PS5 Code for Starfield Despite Xbox-Exclusive Status, Bethesda PR Director Reacts
Tumblr media
It's that time, fellow gamers! Bethesda's highly anticipated space RPG, Starfield, has finally graced the gaming universe. Early access began just last week for lucky individuals who nabbed the Premium or Constellation editions. But fear not, if you're eagerly awaiting your turn to explore the cosmos, the wait is almost over. Access will be open to all on Wednesday, September 6th.
As of this moment, Starfield boasts an impressive Metacritic score of 87 for Xbox and 88 for PC. In our review, we bestowed upon Starfield a perfect 10, with our words echoing, "Once in a while, a new game emerges that redefines our expectations for the gaming industry. Starfield is that game. It transcends our conventional understanding of an open-world game. Bethesda has crafted a universe that, despite its vastness, keeps players engaged with an astonishing attention to detail." With such acclaim, it's no wonder gamers around the world are itching to join in on the adventure. However, here's an amusing twist: Some reviewers have been requesting PS5 codes. Who's going to break the news to them?
According to Dexerto, Bethesda's senior director of PR, Matt Frary, took to Twitter to share this intriguing tidbit. He humorously noted, "Now that it's the weekend… shout out to the small handful of reviewers who requested a PS5 code unironically. I may not have responded, but just know … you made me laugh." He further clarified, "This isn't a console dig. It's a dig at contacts not checking their work. Angry people out there … find a way to let the anger go. It's OK." As many are aware, Starfield is an Xbox console exclusive, with PC being the only other platform where it's available. It appears that a few hopeful reviewers may have missed this vital piece of information in their rush to request review codes.
Already, Starfield is making waves on platforms like Twitch, where players are diving headfirst into this expansive release. It's safe to assume that we'll be hearing about impressive sales figures and player counts in the coming weeks as the game continues to capture the imagination of gamers worldwide.

Starfield is just another sandbox to carry out killing fantasies of hundreds of desperate people forced to a life of crime b3cause of the failure of the society at large to provide for them. It gives you an acceptable badguy to murder by the scores while going back to your little space nato base and getting you're daily credits. You're the big space hero, there is no alternative, there just has to be a population of people who are acceptable to kill at all times to prop up this order. I guess that's why I shoot down every colony ship I find. No more colonies. No more video game. No more fallout 76 logic that tells you to your face that prewar America was good and needs to be rebuilt.
Fallout new vegas gave you something to hope for at least. I don't think a game like that can ever be made again.

There are two mutually exclusive ways Piper in Fallout 4 could be changed that would make me like her more.
1 - Actually make her a charismatic smooth talker with street smarts for days. As-is, she pretty much just yells at and insults people, and I really don't believe she could talk herself out of a paper bag.
If she's really supposed to be charismatic, make her presence unlock dialogue options she can handle for you in certain situations (something Starfield did with its companions as appropriate).
Make us think "oh dang, good thing I had Piper here for THAT one. The alternative was a hard speech check, and I don't feel like quicksaving."
2 - Lean in to her ineptitude and big heart. Make how bad she is at smooth talking an acknowledged part of her character.
Her feeble attempt to lie to get into Diamond City? It fails. Make the player have to sort it out, either talking their way in, or earning their way in (possibly having the option to partner with Piper to do a side quest).
On top of that, lean in to her conclusion jumping. Her suspecting synths in Diamond City is not, in and of itself, clever. If Piper isn't going to smooth talk or reach clever conclusions, give me a Piper who excitedly connects all the wrong dots during your quests.

u-/ur-, ‘less’ (prefix)
Okay, this theory is imperfect, but here goes anyway.
You know how Mando’a has several prefixes that have different forms depending on what follows (e.g. ge-/get-, r-/ru-, etc). This is a clear and consistent pattern.
And there are a few words that seem to have a prefix u-/ur- and my best guess is it stands for ures, ‘without, lacking.’ Kind of like English -less, but a prefix instead of a suffix.
Canon words
ures, ‘without, lacking’ — interestingly, ures has what seems to be a nominal suffix, making it literally “without-thing.” Maybe it was originally a noun meaning “lack,” and first lost a preposition and then became reanalysed as an adverb? Or made a zero-transformation from noun to adverb (there seem to be other adjectives that have done this as well), and the noun is also used, e.g. ures be verde, “lack of soldiers.”
umaan, ‘difficult’ < u- + maan, ‘origin,’ lit. “without origin.” The origin here can be a home, but it can also be a spiritual home—maan shares root with manda (at least according to my theory).
urakto, ‘hard, difficult’ < ur- + *ak-, ‘mission’ + to, ‘join, connection,’ i.e. “without a common (joined, connected) mission.”
And I think there’s something beautiful in that the two words for “difficult” are “without a home” and “without a common cause or goal.” Ultimate forms of hardship, indeed!
urmankalar, ‘to believe’ < ur- + maan, ‘true’ + kal, ‘blade’ + verbal suffix, lit. “without true blade,” i.e. without evidence. I’ve already gone over urmankalar before here.
*utra, ‘emptiness, void’ < u- + tra, ‘starfield,’ i.e. the emptiness of space without stars. This is fanon, but I think this form is a bit more recognisable than canon ut’reeyah, ‘empty,’ utreyar, ‘to clear,’ and utrel’a, ‘clear,’ which could be derivations.
tldr
Just to be clear, all of these words were some of the last ones I had any ideas about. I’m not 100% sure of these etymologies, but this is the best (and pretty much only) theory I’ve come up with. But I think it does work, can explain the existing canon words, or at least doesn’t overtly contradict canon if used further.
As always, counter arguments and alternative theories welcome!
P.s. uur, ‘silence’ could be related or just an accidental homophone.
