Miscellaneous (non-Starbula) Post-Vol. 3 Headcanons
The Sovereign are so averse to making contact with "lesser beings" that they don't make physical greetings or signs of affection like hugs, handshakes, fist bumps, high fives, etc. Adam has been gradually learning these gestures since moving to Knowhere.
Phyla calls Nebula Mommy/Mama, Quill is Dad and Drax is Papa. All the other adults are Uncles or Aunts, except Rocket (he's Captain).
High Evolutionary considers most of Quill's playlist "not real music", so Rocket makes sure his prison cell is placed near one of the biggest speakers to annoy him whenever they play it.
Adam thinks Star-Lord is actual nobility, and he addresses Quill as Your Lordship.
Kraglin and Cosmo have built a specially made pen for Mantis' Abilisks on Knowhere, so they can stay there when/if she comes home.
Once they have all the buildings repaired (and any other new buildings/facilities they're planning to set up) Nebula wants to go looking around the other planets for more plant life to put on Knowhere so they can make it look nicer and greener. Groot will be her main consultant for picking the best ones.
When Rocket's new Guardians go on their missions, Phyla always likes to take souvenirs from the planets she goes to and bring them back to Knowhere to show Nebula. It's usually just mundane trinkets or even bits of rock or rubble, but she treats every one she collects like a beautiful treasure.
Adam, Phyla and the other rescued experiments don't know or remember when they were born and have no birth records. So they all share a "birthday" on the anniversary of the day they came to Knowhere and became part of the Guardians family.
Nebula's favourite music groups are Generation X and U2, but she hasn't told anyone this.
When Quill eventually comes back to Knowhere, he'll have caught up on all the trends, songs and pop culture changes that happened during his time in space and want to share them with everyone else. Most of them still prefer his 70's/80's stuff, though.

Ok so I’m absolutely head over heels for canon Starbula, of course. BUT. I was rewatching What If? season one’s “What If T’Challa Became a Star-Lord?” episode and got INSPIRED.
What if THIS Nebula...
...still connected (and eventually got together) with THIS Peter Quill?
Rewatching this episode, it was so fun to see what Nebula with less cybernetic replacements and trauma would be like. But until now, I’d just recalled that this episode's universe ended in a tragedy, with Ego harnessing Dairy Queen!Peter to destroy the galaxy. (I totally forgot that later in the season, we actually do see T'challa save Peter - oops 😅)
Anyway, after my recent rewatch - and before I remembered that T'challa does save the day in canon - I was like…wait a second. This is the MCU we’re talking about, and these characters have faced certain-apocalypses like this a million times before. And season 2 of What If? just showed Peter breaking free of Ego’s control as a kid, so it could definitely happen here.
So anyway, I started imagining what might happen in this universe to bring Peter and Nebula together, post-episode, and thought the ensuing headcanon was cute enough to share!
Basically, once Ego starts wreaking havoc on earth with a newly-mind-controlled Peter, our heroes Nebula, T’Challa, etc. are quickly alerted to the disaster and fly over to Missouri from Wakanda. In the ensuing fight, Nebula, T'Challa, and Co. realize that Peter is the key to Ego’s power and current destruction, so they try to get Peter away from him. At some point in the fight, Nebula and Peter are somehow separated from the rest of the Ravagers. Maybe when it’s clear they won’t be able to defeat Ego right now, everyone decides to get in their ships to escape and regroup. Peter's next to Nebula, so she grabs him and runs into her ship with him in tow. T’Challa and the others say they'll distract Ego long enough for Nebula and Peter to escape via a jump point.
This basically happens, but maybe Nebula's ship is damaged by Ego in the space fight/escape. So once Nebula and Peter have gotten safely away from Ego, she realizes she's unable to contact the rest of the Ravagers for some reason. Maybe Ego's attack broke her comm, or the ship is damaged enough that she has to crash land on a nearby planet after leaving the jump point. Basically, she and Peter are stuck together on their own for a while, unable to reconnect with the Ravagers.
Initially, Nebula is pissed at Peter for forcing her to separate from her friends and being the cause of this galaxy-level threat (even though, as she learns later, it’s not actually his fault). Poor Peter is totally overwhelmed and freaked out. He’s just had his world turned upside down, is now in space, and this (beautiful) blue alien is yelling at him about how the galaxy is in danger thanks to him.
Over time, however, as Nebula realizes the only way to stop Ego is to help Peter hone his newly-awakened abilities, she starts to warm up to this strange Terran. Peter is his usual charming, funny, and clever self, so as he learns from Nebula about how to survive and fight in space, tries to help her fix the ship, and practices using his powers, he slowly begins to win her over. Lots of cute bonding ensues, and the two eventually become something like the strong and trusting partnership we see in GOTG3.
At some point, Ego finally finds and captures T’Challa and uses him to lure Nebula and Peter back, so he can re-kidnap Peter. (Maybe Nebula finally fixes her comm, and when she does, she learns that T’Challa has been captured by Ego.) Of course, Ego ends up getting defeated by our dynamic duo, totally caught off guard by how powerful Peter has become with his powers. Hooray the galaxy is saved lol
Once they rescue T’Challa from Ego's captivity, Peter watches Nebula run into his arms, the two of them tightly embracing each other in relief. Peter gets self-conscious, realizing that he doesn’t actually belong here in space with them. He belongs back in Missouri, back at the stupid Dairy Queen, not here. There’s no way that Nebula, who he’d been slowly developing feelings for, would ever want to be with him over perfect actual-prince and Star-Lord, T'Challa.
But surprise! Even though Nebula definitely had *~vibes~* in that What If? episode with T’Challa (side note: I think it’s funny that no matter the universe, Nebula is always deeply connected with that universe’s Star-Lord!), during her solo adventures with Peter, she’s realized that she’s actually falling for this goofy Terran.
So Nebula basically tells Peter that his true home is in space (with her 🥲), and invites him to joins the Ravagers. Maybe they confess their feelings at this point, or maybe the slow burn continues slow-burning longer. Probably the latter lol. But either way, this universe’s Nebula and Peter continue to be badasses across the galaxy together, just in a different way from the MCU canon!
I just think the idea of this version of Peter, who’s never been to space and generally has no idea what’s going on, still managing to charm this version of Nebula…is the absolute cutest. And the fact that no matter the universe, these two will somehow always find each other 🥹
PS As I said before, I totally forgot that later in What If? season one (episode 9), it actually shows T'Challa saving Peter from Ego lol. But after rewatching that episode too, I was happy to see all of those scenes still fit here, so my headcanon is technically still canon-compliant 😆

Starbula Week, Day 4: Oblivious / Realization
Since I still haven't visualized the exact scenario when Nebula has her "oh" moment of realizing her feelings for Peter (I just have a vague idea of it being after nearly a year of developing their unexpectedly close friendship and becoming team co-leads, post-Endgame; there are too many amazing scenarios to pin down one just yet), I thought I'd share my headcanon of how *Peter* realized his feelings for Nebula...
…by sharing the fantastic fic that explores this, Accidentally in Love. So today is just a recommendation to read that fic if you haven’t yet -- it's one of my favorite Starbula fics! 😆
Basically post-GOTG Vol 3, Nebula goes to earth to visit the Starks and Peter tags along, and while observing this side of Nebula he'd never known before, he finds himself realizing his true feelings for her... 🥲 SO GOOD!
The only change I make in my own headcanon version of this scenario is that Nebula actually comes to earth for Morgan's birthday party, and Peter somehow tags along to the party. Here are a few more (fun, in my biased opinion) details that go along with that scenario!
Maybe Nebula lets Peter know she'll be coming to earth and asks if he'd like to get lunch before the party, since she'll be in the neighborhood (so to speak). And once Peter learns she's coming for a birthday party, he weasels his way into coming too...even though he's never actually met Pepper and Morgan before. Pepper, of course, is aware of Nebula's feelings for Peter and is secretly elated about the extra guest, so she says of course he can join.
So it's at Morgan's birthday party (which is basically an all-ages party at the Stark's house, with friends like Rhodey in attendance) that Peter gets to see this new side of Nebula. The side that held Morgan when she was an infant, and played dress up with her during her infrequent visits to earth (Peter would definitely get a kick out of watching videos from the five years post-Snap provided by FRIDAY), and was a treasured part of this family. Peter would get to put some of the final pieces together of understanding the unique, complicated, and truly special person Nebula is, and at some point during the party, he'd finally have his "oh" moment.
Maybe it's while watching Nebula dancing goofily with Morgan. Maybe it's when he sees Nebula talking with Rhodey and getting irrationally jealous of her friendship with him. Maybe it's hearing stories about Nebula's growth and journey over the five years that he'd missed from Pepper. IDK, there are so many options in this scenario and I love them all lmao. Definitely partial to the Peter-being-jealous one, though. Maybe that's what tips him off to something being different near the start of the party, and things go on from there.
I also definitely headcanon that once the party is winding down that evening, Pepper insists that Peter and Nebula stay over at their home for the night. Since Pepper and Morgan get to see Nebula so infrequently, I bet she could be easily convinced to just stay over and leave after breakfast the next day, getting a little more time with them. And Peter absolutely doesn't want to leave Nebula's side, not that day's realization, so he's grateful for a little extra time.
That unlocks even more amazing Starbula moments at the Stark cabin...
For example, the two of them sitting alone at the Stark's fire pit, roasting marshmallows and waiting for Pepper to put Morgan to bed. Peter would be uncharacteristically quiet because he's still reeling from the realization that he has romantic feelings for one of his best friends, and maybe has been for a while. Nebula would be oblivious to this, of course, but would be able to clock that Peter's being kind of weird. But it's like a cute weird for them, idk how to explain 🥺
And then maybe once Pepper eventually goes to bed herself, the two then somehow end up stargazing while laying on the dock of the Stark's pond. They point out stars that Nebula can see from Knowhere and recount stories of their adventures across these stars. While Nebula is simply content to be with the man she loves, Peter is trying hard to hide the fact that he's having a mini-mental breakdown lolol.
Then as they're leaving the next morning, Pepper says something to Peter that lets him know that she knows. And that she is happy for him, and for Nebula. Of course, once again, Nebula is totally oblivious. (I'm SUCH a sucker for the idea that over the next several months (maybe a year?), Peter's pining for Nebula continues to grow comically large, while she remains completely unaware -- never even considering the fact that the man she loves could ever feel the same. It's SO GOOD ARGHGHH.)
And finally, when Nebula drops Peter back off in Missouri before returning to space, Peter watches her go and feels his heart drop to his feet.
...Shit.
-------
Anyway, this is officially your PSA to read Accidentally in Love, along with the additional headcanon twist I’ve added to it! 😆 Happy Starbula Week day 4! 🎉

Starbula Week, Day 5: Alternate Universe and Day 6: Family / Holiday
This weekend has been crazy busy, so I guess I’m just combining the two most recent Starbula Week days for the price of one 😅
Basically, this is just a continuation of my post last year that explored the future daughter (Meredith Quill) that I imagine Peter and Nebula having. I won’t rehash it all here, but basically I picture her looking like Millie Bobby Brown, just blue (like…tell me there isn’t *some* resemblance here)
At the time, I didn’t realize that Millie was actually going to be starring in a movie with Chris Pratt (made by the Russo brothers, no less), called The Electric State, which will be releasing in 2025. And now that promo is starting up for it, my Starbula brain is quite delighted 🤭
So in today’s combo Starbula Week post, I’ll both share my headcanon about how an AU Meredith and Peter could fit into the visuals and plot of The Electric State…and, first, some recent press tour photos that look like Peter hanging out with his young adult daughter and make my heart happy 🥲💗
I’m sorry, this is STUPIDLY CUTE. I’ll also just assume that Peter recently lost a bet and had to shave his beard, since otherwise I can't think of why he'd be without his lovely facial hair from Vol 3
Ok, so now for the Starbula/The Electric State AU!
I will admit, basically the only Starbula element here is the fact that she and Peter are married with an adorable daughter who is now in college on earth 😅
Also, I know nothing about this movie aside from what I've seen in the trailer! Everything here is 100% vibes lmao
So in this AU, somehow Peter and Meredith get stranded in a robot apocalypse and have to work together to save the world/escape/rescue Nebula/etc. I actually think it’s a cute concept in general, because how many father-daughter buddy-adventure films are there?
Ok, here we go...
Meredith's first semester of college has just ended, and Peter comes to earth to bring her back home to Knowhere for winter break. Nebula can’t make it because an important work trip came up that she couldn’t reschedule, which is why she’s not on this adventure lol 🙃
On the way to Knowhere, the two get intercepted and basically kidnapped/trapped on this planet where robots have taken over. (And this is the only universe where this happens, hence it being an AU.) Maybe Meredith and Peter's ship get captured and brought to the planet via tractor beam, maybe it gets boarded and they're forced on to the robots' ship, idk. But clearly these robots had been looking for them…😱 *cue suspense*
Once Meredith and Peter are on the planet, they realize that they can’t escape or call for help, since this advanced robot tech is jamming all of their own technology. They somehow manage to escape their captors, and are now on the run in this strange planet, without a way to call Nebula or the Guardians to rescue them. They end up here for several weeks (months?), hence Peter’s hair getting shaggy and Meredith having a super 90’s hairstyle. (In reality, I think the movie is just set in an alternate 1990’s lol)
In the meantime, they learn how to work together as a father/daughter duo. Peter reluctantly teaches Meredith how to use a gun and fight, and, after feeling sheltered and coddled by her parents her whole life, Meredith finally feels like she’s being respected and treated like an equal by her dad.
(Of course, who can blame Peter and Nebula for coddling their daughter and wanting her to have a safe, sheltered life, after the childhoods they had both had?)
Also, since there seem to be some nice robots that they team up with in this movie, I guess during their adventures, they end up gathering a little team of friendly robots who want to overthrow the evil robots who are in charge of the planet.
Eventually, Peter and Meredith learn the backstory of these robots, and why the two of them have been brought here. The robots were originally made on earth, or some earth-like planet, that had decided to scrap the idea of sentient robots entirely and sent them all into space, where they crash-landed on this random planet and eventually took it over.
(Maybe the evil leader robots want to take over the universe – typical 🙃 – in retribution for being cast out by their creators, and the nice robots just want to live in this planet in peace, but are being forced to cooperate with the evil, in-charge robots or be taken apart...)
Meredith and Peter also learn that they’ve been kidnapped and brought here as bait for Nebula, who the robot leaders have been enthralled with ever since they’d learned about her – a being who is both mostly robot and is alive. They'd decided that by holding her family ransom, she’d be forced to give herself up in exchange for their safety. What these robot leaders actually wanted with Nebula, Peter and Meredith still aren't sure.
But once Peter and Meredith are eventually kidnapped, Nebula (who has, along with the rest of Knowhere, been distraught for weeks at the disappearance of her family) is sent a message: Unless she comes to their planet, alone, within 24 hours, her daughter and husband will be killed.
Nebula's arrival on the planet basically starts the climax of the "movie," where she learns that the robot leaders’ goal is to finish her “upgrades,” making her 100% robotic like them. That way, she can be a sort of god for them as they fulfill their "destiny" of wiping out the universe of non-robotic creatures. (The more I thought about this scenario, the more this actually seemed like an MCU-esque mission/galaxy threat, lol.)
Meredith, who is restrained next to her dad, tries to convince her mom not to go along with the exchange and to escape while she still can. However, when a guard begins torturing Meredith in front of her, Nebula distraught, agrees to all of their terms. Of course she’d do anything to protect her daughter.
And then, of course, they all somehow get out of it 🤪 Maybe Meredith and Peter's new robot friends, who had always been undervalued by the more advanced robots that took charge of the planet, are able to sneak Meredith a gun and she is able to kill the robots holding her captive and free herself, Peter, and Nebula. Then, once they’re all free, the trio – plus their robot friends – are able to destroy the robot leaders for good and free the rest of the planet from their control. Yayyyy
And in the process, the Meredith and Peter (and Nebula!) of this AU have gotten to grow closer, having survived a robot apocalypse and even saved the galaxy together.
So there you go! My extremely random Starbula AU...with visuals to go with it! 😉
I really do love that no matter how the movie turns out (even though it sounds like the relationship between Millie and Chris’ characters is central to the plot, which is amazing), it will definitely have some fun visuals and vibes to fuel this AU that I've come up with. Can't wait for March 2025! 🥳
