I've been having further Discovery thoughts and you all have to see them now.
Doug Jones with his noodle man antics (as someone on this site put it) was the ideal person to play Saru. Thanks to the actor being so good at what they do, and their unusual body shape, Saru comes across as genuinely alien.
There's just one issue: when we start seeing more Kelpiens than Saru, they are played with actors who lack Jones' noodly talents and are just you regular star treak aliens: stiff people in masks. Which unfortunately breaks the illusion.
