March 18, 2024 - Striated Yuhina (Staphida castaniceps) Found in parts of the Himalayas and northern Southeast Asia, these yuhinas live in lowland and mountain forests. They eat mostly insects, along with seeds and nectar, foraging in bushes and trees in flocks averaging between 8 and 20 birds depending on the time of year. They build compact cup-shaped nests from moss, dry leaves, leaf skeletons, grass stems, roots, fibers, hair, and other materials in cavities in banks or rocks. Females lay clutches of two to four eggs which both parents incubate.
