I found the best Christian

I'm here to settle the debate on who is the best Christian in Moulin Rouge, you're welcome.

so I've definitely been here for a while, the movie has been my favourite for almost a decade now at this point and I lost my shit when I found out about the musical, naturally I'm an expert and completely correct (there is a tldr)

my favourite Christian for a long time was Ewan McGregor when it comes to the overall picture, which is pretty basic ngl, but he just had the right amount of stupid retriever boy and good voice. however the original obviously has issues with racism/orientalism etc. when it comes to vocal performance Aaron Tveit takes the cake, but he's way too old/mature for my personal likings. all the other ones I've seen were great too (looking at you Muscato stannies), sure but none of them did it like it was supposed to be done.

BUT NOW, yesterday I went to the show in Cologne (with my princess @uncooldotcom ) which was truly spectacular, I've been looking forward to it for months. Still I was a little disappointed because the main Christian is Riccardo Greco and idk he's giving everything but Christian I'm sorry. Well we didn't see Greco though, because his understudy Markus Fetter went on and let me tell you he's the one.

From the moment he went on he was smilling from one ear to another, eyes glistening, truly no thought behind these eyes golden retriever vibe. He had all of Ewan's childishness/excitement. Young, a bit hunky, but a short king, clumsy and all, not a single care in the world. Even when he was not the centre of the scene he never snapped out of that role. When the betrayal hit he still stayed in character, boyish and still not quite understanding of what's happening before his eyes. The rage and the anger seemed so genuine and not malicious like I've seen so many times in the musical adaptation. He didn't seem old and bitter when his heart got broken, he honestly just seemed like a confused kid AND THAT'S HOW IT HAS TO BE.

(Satine was also amazing really, played by Shanna Slaap (also an understudy), it gave raw and seasoned queen, conceal don't feel etc. I will worship her until the end. She was the perfect grumpy black cat match to the bubbly retriever boy)

And don't get me started on the voice, the range! at first it was all clear and angelic like his whole look and then as the tragedy went on it grew more raspy. Satine and him harmonized perfectly, not overpowering one another and they both filled the theatre easily. Since the whole thing was in german too I thought it would be challenging because of the lyrics, but my man really made all the songs his own, no cringy dub, I know it's hard to believe. needless to say the crescendos in "el tango del Roxanne" were the best I've ever heard, it had low notes, high notes, crisp sounds and raspy sounds, perfect enunciation despite the volume or the choreography. I'd be happy listening to that and nothing else until I die. everything was so sincere so unknowing, so aaaaaaaa (I will not stop talking about it for months) (also I don't think he could be more different irl... bbgirl definitely)

tldr: Christians understudy in Cologne was the perfect characterization and vocalisation of Christian (stupid, happy, boyish, honestly angelic, golden retriever) and I have literally one person in the entire world to talk about it, no cast recording, no way to see it again so I'm writing essays on tumblr to cope with the frustration :)

Robb: idk he’s real cute and honorable and i wanna pinch his cheeks. love his bond w Jon and ofc w Grey Wind is awesome.

Jon: sorry Kit is too baby-faced for me but i really love Jon’s chapters, he’s such a broody considerate sad lil butt, & loyal to his friends!! love his partnership w ghost, the goodest boi

Benjen: THAT VOICE AND FACE AND SMIRK I JUST 1500% 👌👌👌 AND THAT HAIR! damn Starks and their perfect-ass hair. damn his smile and cute nose.

Theon: ill be real hes kind of a giant fuckboy and i love Alfie but I dont think he fits Theon well BUT fuckin fantastic character arc 10/10

Missandei: gorgeous queen who knows all the languages and is hella wise I love her pretty outfits too

Grey Worm: big ole sweetheart who will also throttle a man and rip out his heart for u. a smile i must protect.

Tywin: first of all charles dance is 💕💕 bc THOSE EYES AND THAT NOSE aND THAT VOICE and i just love dominating assholes who only have a soft spot for a love interest like hes an awful person but we dont judge on this blog ok. also love me some sneaky intrigue characters

Tyrion: just as much sneaky intrigue as Tywin except he actually has a moral compass, also a heart lmao. 10/10 would marry 

Jaime: problematic fave bc Nikolaj is a dreamboat. also his devotion to those he loves is really frickin sweet even if its misguided as hell lol. ultimate tsundere, prove me wrong

Sandor: GRUMPY! 👏 BUTTHEAD! 👏 WITH A BIG SOFT SPOT HE DENIES!! 👏👏 also like jorah he has that “lady and knight” trope that im a HUGE sucker for. fuckin handsome-ass giant cant decide if i wanna cuddle or get railed by him 

Bronn: he has pretty eyes and i like his voice but that’s moreso the actor lol. Im not super into him but i really like his interactions w Tyrion and his personality

Petyr: not super into him but i really love his manipulative nature and his actor is fuckin A++. say what you want about him but he PLAYS THE LOOOONG GAME you know he’s faithful AF. probs the only legit yandere in GoT lets be real

Stannis: MY ONE TRUE KING AND HUSBAND 😭😭💕💕 I love him soooo much, the show ruined it but his character arc in the books is just SKFKSFK AGH i really love justice-oriented, unyielding & stubborn characters and he has such a big soft spot for Davos and Shireen and he’s such a frickin butthead but also just wants love and has all these insecurities bc of his brothers. I love him. Absolute fav. I really like his actor too, his voice is 💕

Davos: I LOOOOVE LIAM CUNNINGHAM his sweet eyes and voice just fit Davos so well and that beard!! 💖 also great devoted husband and wonderful dad i jsut sfkdkfsl i also want to settle down on a seaside home and have several kiddos or just like 5 dogs with this man. love his relationship w stannis, most iconic duo

Margaery: marg in the books is kinda meehh for me so i really love natalie’s take on her, i love how gorgeous and sassy she is!!! if we dated we’d have unstoppable double femme energy

And Nanu !• Why I like them: His overall demeanor, his apparent laziness with his flip-flops, his tendancies to nap to avoid his duties, his unwillingness to become an E4 member and offering the spot to his niece. The fact that he’s lazy, and seems also quite depressed and reluctant to battling clashes so much with other characters before him and I find it quite funny. But when he fights, he is a combat pragmatist, who won’t hesitate to land low-blows to win. Also he is a grumpy old man who lives alone with his 13 cats and receive calls of a mafia boss and casually hangs up.• Favorite episode/scene : in SM game, when you go to Po town.

Best musical moment: robb being named king at the end of season 1. Moment that made you fangirl/boy the hardest: actually that’s also probably the moment robb was named king in 1x10. it’s just such a powerful, strong moment with a character I truly love getting the appreciation he definitely deserves. but at the same time there’s the obvious sense of dread, so I think the scene is done incredibly well.When it really disappointed you: well, ahem. obviously 3x09. it will always disappoint me. I get why it happened but it just sucks and hurts so badly. but other than for heartbreaking reasons, sadly a lot of season 7 disappointed me. I guess to name a single moment, the sex scene between jon and daenerys.Saddest moment: robb’s… departure… in 3x09. always.Most well done character death: *sigh* well, actually, probably ned’s. it’s really heartbreaking, but it had been built up to for multiple episodes, and it was done with a lot of feel and heartbreak. Favourite guest star: I’m not entirely sure who qualifies as a guest star, like how long they can be on the show to still be a guest, but I’m gonna say clive russell as brynden tully. he’s not supposed to just be a guest, but that’s what he turned out to be. still an amazing character.Favourite cast member: richard madden, always. my man. Character you wish was still alive: oh dear. robb stark, all the way, always. he’s still alive in my heart, though.One thing you hope really happens: robb comes back to life, takes back winterfell, saves the world from the white walkers and lives happily ever after. Best animal/creature: grey wind, always!Favourite location: winterfell!Trope you wish they would stop using: jon being an epic hero who gets one chance after another, forever. not exactly a trope, but I’m sure there’s a trope in there somewhere.One thing this show/book/film does better than others: creates complex, interesting characters with a lot of layer and depth, and shows that even villains can have a very humane side. and besides this, creating a world which is both fantasy, and yet still so very realistic almost to the point you could picture it being real history (which it obviously is not). Funniest moments: I will always a sucker for the moment in 1x01 when arya throws food at sansa and then cat commands robb to take her to bed. idk why, but I love it. as well as that, a lot of tyrion’s puns. and that moment at the end of 3x05 where tyrion and cersei are both acting like grumpy children as tywin commands them both to marry. idk why, but that cracks me up.Couple you would like to see: arya/gendry. I used to have more ships I liked on the show, but at this point that is the only one left I’d like to see.Actor/Actress you want to join the cast: well, a lot of my faves are already on the show, but I think rebecca ferguson would be amazing, or alicia vikander. and obviously my girl lily james.Favourite outfit: robb’s outfit in 3x09. despite everything, it’s a freaking gorgeous outfit that makes him look even more perfect than usual.Favourite item: any accessory the starks wear that has a direwolf on it. also many of sansa’s and margaery’s necklaces.Do you own anything related to this show/book/film?: oh yes, absolutely. so, so many things. obviously the dvd’s and all that, and the books, but also most of the funko pop dolls, a robb  action figure which is actually mighty accurate, and things like calendars, notebooks and so forth. lots of stuff.What house/team/group/friendship group/family/race etc would you be in?: well, I would love to be a stark but I would not want to be related to robb. so, wishful thinking, stark through marriage? but if that doesn’t count, I guess I would be a lannister, if not for anything else, then for my apperance. there’s not a lot of blonde families in westeros. Most boring plotline: sorry, but jon and daenerys.Most laughably bad moment: *sigh* sadly, a lot of the dorne scenes, which sucks, because they were supposed to be awesome.Best flashback/flashfoward if any: the moment in season 6 when bran goes to the past and sees young ned going to the tower to rescue lyanna. the moment when bran calls for ned, and he turns around, is pretty heartbreaking.Most layered character: I want to say robb, but I know that from an unbiased pov, that ain’t so. I suppose I would say jaime, then. he is very well developed, and turned from a clear villain to an anti-hero, and to basically a hero at the point where the show is now.Most one dimensional character: I guess show!ellaria sand. I don’t even know what she’s doing.Scariest moment: like scary scary? hmm… I don’t know, maybe that moment at the end of season 2 where sam is hiding from the army of white walkers?Grossest moment: the oberyn vs mountain fight in season 4. I still can’t watch that properly.Best looking male: robb. richard. robb. richard. this man. perfection!! Best looking female: alexandra dowling, who plays roslin. she’s so pretty. Who you’re crushing on (if any): in case it wasn’t obvious by now, robb stark.Favourite cast moment: I feel like any moment at the 2013 comic con fits. I love how close they all seem, and I love seeing richard hanging with kit, alfie, michelle, rose etc.Favourite transportation: in got this is a little hard to answer, but I do love horses, so.. the horses?Most beautiful scene (scenery/shot wise): anything related to winterfell and the north. I also love the shots from iceland with beyond the wall scenery. I love snow and mountains.Unanswered question/continuity issue/plot error that bugs you: there’s actually so many theories around that sometimes I forget what hasn’t been actually addressed, but… hmm… I guess I would have liked to know more about what ned was actually up to during the war when robb was born (like I get that he went to grab jon, but there’s always been speculation about whether he actually cheated and what he was doing etc etc), and maybe honestly a lot of stuff related to that time period. except rhaegar and lyanna. I do not care what they did and why. but I can’t think of any actual plot errors right now.Best promo: the season 3 promo shoots were mighty good, I loved them. also season 6 just for the sake of them bringing robb back and me dying from excitement, even if it was just one promo picture.At what point did you fall in love with this show/book: I fell in love with the show quite quickly in season 1, and in the books it’s pretty much the same. maybe around halfway the first book I realized how complex and awesome it actually is.

Favourite quotes: “kindness is free. love is free.” - ella // “just because it’s what’s done doesn’t mean it’s what should be done.” - ella // “we must simply have courage and be kind, mustn’t we?” - ella // “we need not look outside of our borders for strength or guidance. what we need is right before us.” - kit Best musical moment: probably the dancing scene, everything about it is perfect. as well as the scene after ella’s dress has been ruined and she runs to the garden. it’s such a powerful moment. I also like ella’s singing at the end of the movie.Moment that made you fangirl/boy the hardest: oh, again the moment where kit takes off his cloak and reveals his identity. I love that so much. but also the moment kit first appears, that just got me so good.When it really disappointed you: I don’t think anything about this perfect movie has ever disappointed me.Saddest moment: when ella finds out her father is dead, and when kit’s father dies. lots of death.Most well done character death: I think it’s gotta be ella’s mother. the build it up nicely and it’s very heartbreaking.Favourite guest star: I guess this means minor character. I think hayley atwell is quite good in her role. also derek jacobi, if he counts as a guest.Favourite cast member: richard madden, always! Character you wish was still alive: well, I think all the deaths actually worked very well into the story, but I’m gonna say the king, since he doesn’t die in the original.One thing you hope really happens: I want a sequel/prequel about kit when he’s at war and how he becomes the person he is in the movie. this is based on the rumor of a prince charming movie happening. if they don’t do it about kit, don’t do it at all.Most shocking twist: I love this movie to bits, but it’s not very shocking. I guess, again, when kit reveals his identity? I keep talking about this scene.When did you start watching/reading?: I got into it the moment it was first announced, and I watched it in the theatres the day it came out march 2015. the apprentice: westeros edition - what would it look like? who will win? who will lie on their cv?

Oh my word. 

I don’t watch The Apprentice, because I know I’m likely to throw things at the TV. Alan Sugar makes me very very grumpy, and that isn’t a reaction I find irrational. Smug git that he is.

For the main three I see Littlefinger, Olenna Tyrell, and...hmm. Varys, possibly. Varys and Olenna gang up on Littlefinger, who keeps attractive redheaded women in for far too long because of his Cat Stark issues. Olenna has the best putdowns in TV, and has a loyal fanbase of young men who want her to stomp on them in high heels. Varys does Mr Burns hands, arches eyebrows, and sasses the hell out of all. Sometimes he guest stars on the Westeros version of Ru-Paul’s Drag Race as a judge.

I’d probably try and set it up as the Great Families plus random others. So we’d have Robb Stark being all honourable and noble and failing horribly. Littlefinger hates him, and gets him kicked first. Tywin, who is an ex-judge (Varys replaced him) tries to make Jaime take part, but Tyrion ends up there instead, much to his Dad’s consternation. He’s really really good. Dany, obviously, but she’d Luna Lovegood around and talk about her bearded dragon breeding empire too much. She and Tyrion buddy up and take most people by surprise. 

Loras would try and charm everyone, quite successfully, but gets into a scandal by shagging Stannis’ attractive little brother behind the scenes, which pisses Stannis off to the point where he leaves the show on principle - he didn’t want to be on it anyway, but felt he had to. Joffrey gets accidentally killed in an amusing manner. Hurrah! Arianne Martell would dazzle all, including the gay contestants, with her magnificent breasts and would probably win the entire thing because She Gets Shit Done. 

Everyone thinks Euron is a weird ‘80s metal throwback until he almost takes over everything through a series of very clever deals. He fails. Horribly. The Blackfish tells everyone that it’s a load of shit, and gets drunk with Sandor. This is an exceptionally good tactic. Lisa Arryn spends all her time trying to shag Littlefinger and coming up with the weirdest and strangest ideas that anyone’s ever heard. Brienne almost goes the way of Robb as she’s so honourable, but no one wants to piss her off as she could break them with her magnificent thighs.

Bronn wins, because he’s a cunning bastard and is like a ninja - the personalities of the others are so big that no one sees him coming, and he takes it out from under them.

He uses his prize fund to buy a castle. Preferably Highgarden, but he’s not picky.

1. Made the first move: Melisandre said the Lord of Light needed them to bang, so they did.2. The big spoon: Stannis is half Koala, half cat. It’s only natural.3. The little spoon: Relcutantly, Melisandre accepted this role after seeing it in the flames one afternoon.

4. The cuddler: Melisandre likes to cuddle after rough sex. Stannis likes to cuddle after a day of being forced to act nice.5. Cries during movies: Melisandre cries during movies when the flames are extinguished. Stannis has only cried while cutting onions. He curses himself every time it happens.6.
