☆ A Break On A Farm — Stanarrator x Male Reader HCs ☆

ᯓᡣ𐭩 Narrator aimed to find something to keep you and Stanley entertained, and a simple farming simulator seemed to be the best way to do that. Sure it was pixle-y and obviously not his Parable, but it could do

ᯓᡣ𐭩 Stanley surprisingly got the hang of farming pretty quickly. Well, at least the basics. Just some watering and then harvesting them for money seemed easy enough. You had to teach him some methods here and there to improve productivity

ᯓᡣ𐭩 You were content helping to clean up the farm, especially with the work that felt a little domestic like taking care of the pet NPC you owned together or styling up your home. It was nice to have a space you both could control for once

ᯓᡣ𐭩 Narrator was the one who kept insisting on bigger and better, giving you and Stanley iridium-level materials and tons of fertilizer. He wanted to see everything flourish, and wasn't keen on waiting for too long, profit was the name of the game, right?

ᯓᡣ𐭩 There weren't any townspeople NPCs, but Narrator talked enough for about five people, so it didn't come across as much of a problem. Besides, it was nice to hear the soft music in the air as you worked on your humble home

ᯓᡣ𐭩 Narrator kept getting rather bored while you and Stanley tried to work, but you two convinced him to stick around long enough to really enjoy it. It was calming here, and a nice break from the mundanity you were used to

ᯓᡣ𐭩 Farm animals were some of the best parts, especially since chickens seemed to gravitate to Stanley. Everywhere he walked, they followed, and you were able to collect eggs from them pretty easily due to it. Meanwhile the pet you both decided on adored you to bits and always came to you rather than Stanley

ᯓᡣ𐭩 Narrator kept complaining about the amount of time you were spending there, until you and Stanley began gathering gifts for him from the game. Suddenly he was pretty fond of the farm, and let you stay for however long you wanted

(ramble bc ive got some thoughts n words on the meanings behind these four images under the cut, and if u have no idea what la vie en jaune is and want some background then read this first!)

OK SO BIG MOTIF IS YELLOW (which, ofc, considering the au is la vie en jaune) BUT I WANNA NOTE HOW YELLOW MAINLY SYMBOLIZES THE GLASSES AND THE PARABLE.

In the before images, yellow is super scarce.

virgil/narry has yellow in his eyes, which symbolize how the glasses and the pARable is already affecting his mind. the little tech lines on his neck say the same, indicating that he cant stop using them, the glasses gaining more control as it saps his life away from him (as seen by his hair slowly starting to grey)

meanwhile, stanley barely has any, save for a yellow flower in his breast pocket. this originally was supposed to be a yellow zinnia, a flower that i heard represented forgetfullness (which is indicative of virgil slowly losing himself with the glasses) but i just started uni and my bus ride to campus is an hr so i couldnt look up any refferences. he does have a yellow tear in his eye that was meant to show his worry over virgil and how he starts to progressively look more and more drained as he uses the glasses.

THEN WE GET TO THE AFTER AND OHOHOH I LOVE THESE SM

Narry has a bit more yellow, though its controlled now. he has the glasses for one, but his tie is now yellow as well! which was to show how the glasses not only control him, but give him power. narry starts to control the pARable. (ill get to the scribbles in a bit)

Stanley, however, is encased in yellow. drowning in it. lost in it. the yellow tear in his eye now running down his face. though the yellow flower remaining in his pocket, perhaps indicating how despite becoming lost in the pARable, he still cares for virgil/narry.

then we get to the scribbles. they are meant to show how the pARable affects them both.

for narry, it is yellow and behind his head, showing how the pARables influence is clouding his judgement and perception.

for stanley, it is black and is hiding his eyes. which could both be interpreted as his mind not being affected by the pARable, as compared to narry, whos glasses encompass his eyes with more yellow. or as narry being unable to fully control stanley, just trapping him but never affecting his judgement. (and in my seperate post with just stanley, i put "stranger, thats all i see." from the song soulmate who wasnt meant to be. and it was because since stanley's character in the pARable's map is just a model for the player to inhabit, narry cant really see into his eyes (which are also "the windows to the soul") so in a sense, the stanley narry interacts with isnt the stanley virgil fell in love with.)

Fresh out of a story run, you and Stanley had decided to head to the employee break room. You definitely both needed it, in the last run of the story the Narrator had been particularly uncooperative. So, in a fit of indignation, he was leaving you two be for the moment. Which only created one problem— without a story to follow, there wasn't much to do. Narrator only gave you two extra items to play around with on a good day, now it was just the two of you and the vending machine that didn't work.

You huffed a deep sigh, leaning against the table. You could always trash stuff or something like that, but it didn't really strike your interest today. You glanced to the blue couch on the other side of the room, then to where Stanley was doodling on a napkin with a spare pen he found. You slid over, trying to peer over his shoulder. He turned a little to hide the image from you, and you chuckled "Sorry, sorry". He huffed a little, using his hands as a guard to keep up the work. You draped yourself over his back, head leaning against his "Got anything you wanna do besides this mysterious art?"

Stanley shook his head. You sighed, keeping an arm around him "Still tired?". He nodded. "Yeah, I get that" you replied, drumming your fingers against his back while you thought. After some minutes, he leaned back, stuffing the napkin in his pocket. You leaned off of him, and he began using his hands to sign to you. Narrator had implemented captions to translate what was being said so you could understand better. ['You think he's gonna come back soon?'] He asked you. You gave a shrug "Who knows, this is like the third time he's left in a row"

['Right. But now we're just sitting here'] Stanley replied. "Aw, come on, there's gotta be something" you said, looking around. Your eyes landed on the blue couch again. You glanced back to Stanley, before gently taking hold of his sleeve, tugging him in that direction. Though visibly bewildered, he followed suit, keeping step with you. You let him go once in front of the furniture, sitting down with a heave flop. You scooted to the far end, kicking your feet up to lounge back. "Might as well make use of what we have. Take a seat" you said. ['You're taking up the whole couch'] Stanley signed, his expression showing his mild frustration. Without waiting for an answer, he gently pushed your legs off his spot, sitting beside you.

You chuckled as you scooted up a bit to make some room, before seeing the fatigue that clung to the primary protagonist. It was in the way his shoulders slumped and his back leaned into the cushions. His expression was also mildly troubled, brow furrowed and a small frown present. Your grin faltered, concern on your face. "Hey, you feeling okay?" You asked. Stanley just nodded. You gave a small hum of worry, unconvinced. You inched closer to his side, wrapping an arm around his shoulders "Come on, lay down, take a break" you gently insisted. ['But there isn't enough room-'] Stanley signed in reply. "Stan, you can lean on me. It's okay" you responded. Stanley hesitated.

['Are you sure?'] Stanley asked. "Hey, how many times have I fallen asleep on you?" you asked back, not waiting for an answer before continuing, "I don't mind, I promise. You need it anyways". Stanley thought it over, before scooting in. He waited for you to lay back before resting atop your chest, arms slowly snaking around your waist to press you close to him. He closed his eyes, letting out a soft grunt as he hid his face in the crook of your shoulder.

You pat his back, rubbing up the length of it before sliding back down. You added your nails in eventually, very lightly grazing his back with them. He went limp in your hold, muscles relaxing and frame easing. He nuzzled you just a bit, using you as a grounding touch while his mind slips away from him. The last you hear is a big, heavy sigh before he finally lets himself fall into a light but blissful sleep. Your hand stills, patting his upper back as the office worker shifted a bit to subconsciously get more comfortable.

You're content to just watch over him for a few minutes, cheek pressed to his head and arms a supporting hold to keep Stanley in that peaceful rest he's finally getting. You glanced down, noticing something in your peripheral vision. A small, dark beige little crumpled paper. With great caution, you slowly leaned over and picked it up. Unfolding it, you could see that it was the drawing Stanley had been working on moments prior, which must have fallen out. Your first instinct was to put it back down. He made it pretty obvious he didn't want you to see it, and you didn't want to pry. But to even see what it was, you had accidentally uncovered the image within. It was a little doodle of the both of you, simplified figures standing next to each other. It was you both sharing an umbrella in some scribbled on rain, closely tucked together, his arm around your waist.

You couldn't help but smile seeing the image. It was a cute picture of you both, and knowing that this is what Stanley wanted to keep from you so bad was a little amusing. But regardless, you folded it back up and tucked the napkin back into his pocket. It was a cute surprise, but you knew he'd be embarrassed and upset if he knew you unintentionally saw it. With that settled, you shifted to get more comfortable, closing your eyes to prepare for a nap of your own. You nuzzled the top of Stanley's head a bit before sinking into sleep with him.
