i am one of ford's biggest defenders but some of y'all are really out here arguing that he has never struggled with pride or hubris. im sorry but those flaws are a prominent aspect of his arc and central to his canon characterization. i think you might just not like ford actually

Okay okay okay- I've got an AU rattling around in my brain that is somewhat like a body swap au, but instead of being stuck in each other's bodies, it's a semi-possession situation where Stan is stuck in Ford's head, or vice versa, Ford is stuck in Stan's. Can hear what they hear, see what they see, feel what they feel, and talk to them and no one else. (On that note if anyone knows any good body swap fics of the Stan twins I'd love to read that-)

Either one of them died, or its some Gravity Falls ~weirdness~ that has them trading out in each other's brains.

Love the idea of Ford accidentally killing Stan with the crossbow, and in his grief and panic makes a less than negotiated deal that has Stan's consciousness/soul alive in his brain. Stan stuck in there, feeling the exhaustion and the pain and scolding Ford into taking care of himself. He can't read all of Ford's brain or anything, but he can read Ford's thoughts as he thinks them.

Or, on the flip side, Ford is killed by Bill or something, and Stanford "icarus didn't flap hard enough" Pines had a fail safe just in case. That goes wrong, and instead of this fail safe putting his soul in a clone body or something, it transfers him into his currently homeless, grifter brother's head.

Ford, disoriented as he comes to consciousness in a brain that isn't his own, just feels exhausted, hungover, in pain, hungry- he quickly figures out what happened, but thankfully Stan hadn't realized what happened yet. So long as Ford keeps his thoughts to himself, then Stan won't realize he has an unwanted passen- and what the fuck, Stanley is doing what?! Of course he's immediately scolding his idiot brother, and things spiral from there.
