Open Badge: SSSC 23 Things Digital – Thing 6: Digital Security: What did I learn? Passwords, I downloaded How secure is my password to my IPAD, something which I did not know was possible, and it gave me an idea of how long it would take to crack my password online. The result showed 2000 years. I tested the app by inputting weak passwords to view the results. I was so impressed with this app, so immediately shared it with my family and colleagues in work, to support their online safety. I was also curious to go into my settings and check for updates and permission status. I was satisfied that I was secure in regards to permissions, however found out that I had some updates pending and carried these out. With regards to social media and online games I have always avoided these as I have felt my online safety may be compromised, due to the amount of ads, and links and often due to the questions asked about myself personally I feel it is an invasion of privacy and could potentially lead to identity theft. I think everyone needs to make themselves aware of Imposter accounts, one which look like they’re genuine, but under closer inspection, turn out to be fake accounts, as this could lead to you getting hacked and possibly sharing your financial information with a fake supplier. With exiting and new information I gained today, it is my plan to share this knowledge with my colleagues, and families that I work with, to help them to become digitally secure, and aware of the threats online and how to combat them. Learned so much doing this badge in such aa short space of time. Delighted!

Introduction
Hello all
My name is Fraser, I have recently graduated from the University of Stirling with a 2:1 BA Honours in Politics. Since then, I have been blessed to land a graduate job as a research intern with the Scottish Social Services Council for the next year.
I am also a huge tennis fan and a film fanatic so may use this blog to share my thoughts and experiences on the latest tennis news as well as newest and most classic movies.
As part of my research intern I have been asked to complete the 23 things digital open badge by the SSSC. This is a great open badge to complete as its purpose is to inform how an individual can use the internet and the digital world to improve their professional development and assist your learning.
This has already encouraged to set up a blog to record my experiences and engage with an online community I would not have otherwise done.
This promises to be an extremely exciting year ahead and as such I thought it may be a good idea to make a blog recording my experiences as a researcher.

My first blog and introduction!
My name is Chloe and I am completing the SSSC 23 things badges as part of my Modern Apprenticeship. I have recently started a new job and I am completing these as part of it. I am new to blogging so I am looking forward to pushing myself out my comfort zone. My new job is a clinical support worker with the NHS and I am ecstatic to be working for such an amazing organisation. My dream is to become a nurse and I feel so lucky to be taking my first step towards this. I have already learnt loads of new skills and I can’t wait to learn more. All the topics on the SSSC 23 things is extremely important. Even though I may feel I know about social media, there is so much more to learn. I am looking forward to learning about digital footprint and social media in depth and widen my knowledge. I will be writing blogs to achieve the SSSC badges and I hope you enjoy them.

First Blog
Hi everyone,
My name is Fiona, I am 24, and I am starting this new blog as part of my new job. I have started a Modern Apprenticeship and we are currently trying to complete some badges to have on our digital profile.
In deciding to do this particular badge of starting a blog, I realised how much I don’t actually like to talk about myself online, but hey ho here we go...
I am super excited and nervous about my new job. It is all a completely new experience for me as I have been in my previous job for nearly 10 years. Also it is completely different from anything I have done before. My anxiety is starting to take over as I go in for my first official shift next Wednesday (rather than the online stuff we’ve been doing), but I am trying to power through and push myself to be the best I can be.
WISH ME LUCK.
Fiona (or Fi) x

Hello
Hi my name is Nicola and I’m here to try and learn a bit more about technology and social media platforms. I am new to blogging and currently trying to figure out how to work Tumblr, so you will all have to bear with me! My plan is to use this blog to document my digital learning from the 23 things digital through the SSSC open badges and possibly try out the different functions i.e., video or photos of my learning along the way.
I am feeling rather nervous about beginning this journey but hope that I will feel more comfortable as time goes on and my confidence on using digital technology improves.
So far I have learned how to find and follow other bloggers that I am interested in. I’ve also learned how to tag people in my own blog and how to share my blog with other people.

SSSC open badges! The Digital Learner at 40....
This post is to support the Digital learner badge. The Blogger....
COVID-19 has turned my working week inside out and upside down. Now, in between being a home primary teacher, secondary school teacher, teaching assistant, lunch time assistant, referee, Nurture teacher and a mum,  I spend almost all my week working digitally. As part of my remote learning, I decided to use my time to explore what the SSSC badges had for me. I had heard about them, and danced through the pages with nothing to show from it. Well. What can I say. Why haven't I looked at these before? There is a plethora of subjects all relevant to my role in Early Years and all badge activities are applied and reflective so it’s not just learning for learning sake. I feel that after lockdown, the badges will become increasingly recognised and will recommend others to explore them, I know, that once “normality” has been restored, I am determined to continue on this journey. My only bit of advice to anyone new to these would be to complete the essential badges - especially “how to write evidence”. I didn't follow my own advice and this was my mistake. I thought I knew what was expected of me... I was wrong. You really need to take your time and read all the guidance.

Introduction
Hi, my name is Lauren Reilly and I am currently doing a modern apprenticeship as a Clinical Support Worker in Learning Disability Services within the NHS. I am 19 years old and an aspiring midwife. As part of my modern apprenticeship, I am required to create a blog account and make some posts to earn badges, so that’s solely what this account is for. I am from the Scottish Borders however I am now living up in Edinburgh to pursue my career in healthcare. In my spare time I like to spend time with friends and family, I also like going out to restaurants for dinner. From experiencing this thing I have learned that making a blog account and writing posts it’s not something I would do with my own free time.

My thoughts regarding Open Badges
After reading About Open Badges and viewing Open Badges from the SSSC video (twice) I remain optimistic that the Open Badges model represents a positive and imaginative way forward. As an emergent technology and community I feel for me in particular it could be part of the key in my journey of Lifelong Learning. As a mature practitioner, technology and its ever advancing march forwards presents quite a challenge for me. One from which, if I’m honest, I’ve avoided or left to others. Already Open Badges have challenged me to develop my skills, set-up a blog, register an account, create a new post and reinforced the importance of reflection in both my roles as a practitioner and learner. One which I will take forward into my everyday practice and hopefully I will continue to grow in confidence alongside gaining skills as I progress through SSSC 23 Things.

SSSC23ThingsDigital
Weblog is an on-line platform where bloggers can communicate with other people instantaneously. It is a valuable tool for sharing ideas, up-to-date research and good practice.
I work for a third sector organisation who help people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
I enjoy my job, but I am not confident in using IT; especially social media platforms, however learning this skill will enable me to assist those clients who are not confident in their ability to learn new things and will allow me to experience what it feels like to take on new challenges and take risks.
My organisation is promoting a ‘Get Digital’ programme for our clients as most activities in life require IT skills. The competent use of a computer is especially important for clients who may be seeking employment, as many application forms are to be completed on-line.
One thing that I have learned from completing the blog is that I now know how to set up a blog and how straightforward it is to post a message to others. I will also encourage my colleagues to use blog more.

SSSC23Things
Feeling excited as I begin learning with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and get rewarded with a SSSC digital badge. I’am particularly looking forward to social media, Twitter and open educational resources as I’am an early years manager in a large setting and one of my job remits requires me to communicate effectively with parents, carers, staff and children using a range of media platforms that suit my audience. I believe this 8 week programme will build my confidence and enable me to be more skilled and knowledgeable in this area. Another benefit for me is when I can transfer these new skills and knowledge in my home, as I support my 2 school aged children as we live in a digital world. Happy to be part of this and I have just learned how to create a blog, first time ever.

Thing One
My name is David Hamilton and I am a graduate intern working with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council in the Workforce Development Team. The purpose if this blog is to help me work through the Scottish Social Care Council's 23 Things Digital Badges. The reason for this is that we are planning to promote the use of Open Badges in social care organisations across Northern Ireland. As this is my first time ever setting up a blog I have learned the process to set up a blog for free and how to make blog posts. Working through 23 Things Digital is also helping me to get a better understanding of how Open Badges work and how they can be structured, which will help with promoting Open Badges now and issuing them in the future.

Open Badges
The open badges website is a good website as it is easy access and everything is labelled so it's easy to read and go onto your own badges and profile.
I also learned new things while trying to earn my badges, such as, Open badges has over 3,000 companies worldwide, 'Reflective Accounts' are taken to Open Badges so they can give feedback of what badges you have been rewarded and that your badges get looked over to see if your answers to each question are worth a badge.
It also goes more into detail about the SSSC and what it does, what it means and useful resources on SSSC as well.

An Introduction to Creative Chris (Thing 1)
Welcome aboard! ⚓
I’m Christopher and I am currently working as a support worker in an after school club. I also just finished my first semester at university. I have wanted to be a primary teacher for quite a while now and hopefully in 4 years I can achieve this. I created this blog to begin my journey on the SSSC 23 Things campaign. Starting a blog is quite daunting for me, in all honesty, because I am still relatively new to working with children. I have volunteered as a student teacher and early years practitioner before this but this marks the first year I began to work with children as my actual job. I am still learning a lot about all the considerations I should be making when working with young people.
Starting a blog is not something I had considered before discovering the 23 Things campaign but I think this is likely to be a nice way to record and reflect on my progress. I don’t want to simply post 23 posts to accommodate the 23 things campaign, I really want to make this blog my own by going the extra mile. Who knows we may very well see activity ideas, games, strategies and any other quirky ideas I may want to share!
I’m really excited about this new digital chapter and I am looking forward to looking back on this blog to see how far I have come since the beginning.
- Christopher 😃

23 Things Digital - Thing 5 - Social Media
This workshop asked me to review the social media codes of practice, watch a short video, read articles and reflect on my own use of social media.
I believe that your social media presence is an extension of yourself and your personality. Therefore things that you say online have just as much importance as they would in real life.
I may show a different side to my personality than I do in a professional setting, the language and tone used may be more casual however once I press ‘post/send’ I have committed to showing this to the world and despite the option to delete being available, as soon as it is out there it cannot be fully taken back. It is important to think before I post as I would think before I speak in real life.
Social media is a now fundamental part of human culture and life in most places and can be a great thing when used correctly. It has made it significantly easier to create and maintain connections and relationships and obtain information instantly. This also comes with negative issues such as the spread of misinformation and online disagreements which can become toxic.
I do not post on social media frequently however when I do, I am happy that the things I share reflect the type of person I am and that I adhere to the social media policy of the SSSC.
The SSSC social media guidance for staff highlights how social media is a great tool for engagement and advises that staff should display behaviours which are in line with the same laws and expectations of real life. This is important as it can be easy to mistake the online world as a separate place where there is more leniency.
I aim to be more active on social media in my new position and currently share these blogs to twitter, I am looking forward to the connections I can make and information I can obtain through this increased presence whilst keeping in line with the SSSC social media guidance for staff.

Thing 19: Apps #2
Thing 19 focuses on the benefits app can bring to an individuals learning. For example there is particular focus given to note taking apps such as onenote and word as well as mind map apps such as coggle.
While I only first heard of coggle through this workshops its benefit for learning is plain to see. Coggle is effectively a mind map that is stored online allowing the user to access the mind map from any device and share the mind map or collaborate the mind map with anyone of their pleasing. This makes coggle for great for individual and group learning.
Apps such as onenote and word I was already extremely familiar with, these apps have immeasurable value to learning as these they allow individuals the ability to make notes, write up documents from any location and collaborate with anyone. This provides all the benefits of note taking by hand and all the benefits of the digital world most important instant sharing, collaboration and ensuring all documents are legible.
Apps can have an immeasurable impact on learning and I would encourage everyone to make use of apps in any capacity to assist with learning.
