WHO: Open! @srphq-starters WHERE: Danse Macabre, Outside
If there was one word to describe Ben O’Dell it was messy, and tonight was no exception. Alcohol had taken over the man’s system and he could hardly stand on two feet. He left the party without telling anyone. Hot, tired, and nauseous Ben found himself outside sitting in some grass that had already formed a layer of dew. His fingers brushed through the blades of grass leaving them wet. He was in his own little world before he heard someone approaching. “Hi.” Ben nearly yelled, he had a huge grin on his face as he waved, it was almost childlike. “Come sit with me.” He was totally unaware if the other person outside was approaching him, or something else, he didn’t really care he just wanted someone to talk to.

Welcome to the DANSE MACABRE It just might be your last...
Everyone is dressed to impressed, the booze is flowing and the dance floor hasn’t been empty all night. The early reviews of the evening are a rousing success, but only an hour passes before whispers start to rise that something is amiss....
The mansion and grounds are filled with designated ‘Scare Zones’ where one might encounter a ghoulish guest or two, but there’s one figure in particular that is sending ice down people’s spines. The Weeping Woman someone called her in passing and it didn’t take long before the name stuck. Here one minute and gone as soon as your back is turned, she seems almost like a ghost, but the sound of her cries of agony are all too real.
“A nice touch,” someone commended one of the event coordinators, only to be met with a blank stare.
“There is no Weeping Woman,” they reply, with terror in their eyes. “Whoever that is, it isn’t us...”
Is this part of the show? An awful prank? Or is something much more sinister afoot?
We’re so excited to host our our first big dash event here at Salem! There’s no need for you to drop your current threads (unless you want to!) but we hope you’ll dedicate the majority of your energy to event threads while it is still on-going.
As previously stated, the event will be starting on Oct 22, and we’ll be making an official kickoff post when it’s time to start posting!
Feel free to have your characters attend as guests, or have them work the event as servers, bartenders, scare-actors, etc. And please, please, please post all your characters costumes using the #srphqhalloween tag so we can all see!
The Weeping Woman subplot has been added for a little extra scary spice to the event! Please feel free to have your characters speculate about her identity/origin or even have sightings of the woman, but keep in mind we do have a plan for her, so please don’t solve the mystery.
We’re also hoping this event can be a way to bring together characters that wouldn’t normally interact, so if anyone would like a random pairing for the event (we hope everyone will elect to include at least one of their characters), please comment with who you would like included below.
EDIT: If you still have more questions, please see this ask.

who: everyone @srphq-starters where: the danse macabre what: fei attempts to press the restart button on her mess of a life
It had been almost two months at this point since Fei’s life had imploded. She’d been living in a sad little Airbnb since she’d been kicked out of her home, and only went to work and back, avoiding eye contact with literally everyone. But she wasn’t thinking about that, tonight. She was dressed in what was somehow the coolest and nerdiest costume she’d ever seen (a rather glitzy Golden Snitch), and she was determined to have fun, and move on, and not think about Nate, or about Lachlan, or about any of her own terrible choices.
So she left her sad little Airbnb and didn’t look back. The streetlamps reflected off of her costume and drew more attention than she’d allowed herself to attract for months. It was uncomfortable, honestly, but everything worth doing often was. When she arrived at the Danse Macabre - the name always getting the spooky orchestral music stuck in her head - she fit in rather well. Everyone looked about as wild as she did, and if anyone was looking at her now, it was because she looked great. And not because they’d heard the rumors.
Like most people, she made a beeline for the bar, and decided the best course of action for re-entering society was to do a good deed. So she told the bartender she’d pay for whatever the person next to her was ordering. Then, thinking about it, she smirked at them. “You didn’t happen to order the most expensive thing on the menu or anything, did you?”

STARTER FOR: Open! @srphq-starters WHERE: Danse Macabre, outside somewhere
With a considerable amount of alcohol in his system and his mood on the up and up, Deacon almost seemed like himself again as of late–intoxicated for an occasion and having a good time rather than drinking and indulging in habits until he didn't have to msntally or emotionally face the last four years; he'd deal with it when he was ready—at least that's what he told himself. it was a change of pace that Deacon welcomed with open arms, and deep down hoped would stick around a while after the alcohol had worn off. but for now, he was going to enjoy himself and lean into whatever tradition his new home seemed so hyped about.
while he stepped outside, anyone and everyone he passed he spoke to–either just a polite 'hows it going?' as he passed or, 'got a lighter?' before he wandered around a corner and spotted a lit candle. granted, it was mounted high up on the wall, perched in a holder that looked old and fancy and went well with the decor of the event–so of course, a drunk Deacon was going to scale that wall for the flame that danced atop the candle. by the time he reached it he was standing on his tip-toes on top of some decoration, stretching as far as he could with the cigarette dangling from his mouth in an attempt to reach the light, only to catch movement from the corner of his eye. he jumped a little before he turned his head, blinking at the person looking at him like he'd just beamed down from space; still hanging from the fixture on the wall.
"jesus–I thought you were that wailing woman or whatever people keep talking about.."

queencobraeva:
Status: open
Location: house of seven gables
Being scared on Halloween was a given. But it was the last thing Eva wanted to do. Literally ever. So she kept to what she thought was a safe space while in Seven Gables. She was near the food and the dance area. No one unexpected should be sneaking up on her. Not that she could hide much her hair was pastel orange and was dressed in a yellow shirt and blue overalls.
“I don’t… I don’t… Want someone to… ju…jump out and scare me.” Eva sighed. She felt overstimulated. But under no circumstances would she look for a dark quiet room here… That was a recipe for being yeeted to another dimension. “Hide… he….here… with me?”
“Oh shit, I’m sorry if i scared you at all walking up,” Deacon spoke quickly, “definitely wasn’t my intention at all if i did-I’m just looking for a snack,” he motioned to the food, scanning the table before looking back up when she spoke again and asked him to hide there with her. he couldn’t help but smile a bit, giving her a nod as he unwrapped a candy and popped it into his mouth. “sure, i can hide here a while, i don’t have anywhere else to be right now.”

Join us for a month of wicked good fun as we celebrate the month of All Hallow’s Eve. This October, the Salem City Counsel will be hosting a Harvest Festival, with activities and spooks for the entire family! Face-painting, hayrides, pumpkin carving, costume contests, and an art festival are just a few of the attractions waiting for you at Gallows Hills. But make sure you get the young ones home by nightfall! You never know what ghosts and ghouls may be lying in wait...
And for those of you who aren’t too faint of heart, dare to spend All Hallow’s Eve at the House of the Seven Gables for a DANSE MACABRE that is sure to make your hair stand on end. All guests must be 21+ and tickets will be on sale for $40. All the proceeds go to Salem Historical Society.
As promised, we’re doing October big here in Salem with a month-long event to celebrate the spookiest time of the year! Starting October 1st, feel free to post starters and threads taking place at the harvest festival. This portion is completely optional, and you can continue regular threads as you deem fit. The list of available attraction at the festival are as follows:
Face painting
Pumpkin Carving
Children’s Costume Contest
Hayrides
A Hay Maze
Witch Trial Re-enactments
Midnight showings of Rocky Horror Picture Show every Friday
Open-Air Market with various vendors, artists, and food stands
Probably same lame local band playing Monster Mash ad nauseam...
On October 22nd, we will officially be transitioning into DANSE MACABRE, a more traditional, mandatory dash event that will last until November 1st. More details to follow, but this will be our first big event - plots and random pairings will be given out to all who wish to participate.
More details to follow, but feel free to start plotting!!
Love,
Molly & Em

Looking into our crystal ball, here’s what we see happening for our Random Pairings during this event:
These pairings were picked randomly, but were inspired by characters we haven’t seen interacting on the dash yet. Please message each other to plot out as much as you need to before starting, and get creative with it! The scenarios are meant to be fun jumping off points; they’re fairly open-ended, so feel free to make your own spin on them - or come up with something different if you’d rather. Just let us know so we can offer the plot up to someone else if it’s needed.
Deacon Carlisle and Paige King
Maybe it's curiosity or maybe you’re going out deliberately looking for trouble, but either way, you find it when the two of you end up locked in a storage closet or basement somewhere. Reception has always been spotty here - are you getting a signal?
Kaya Masondo and Alexandra Wilson
You’re at the bar when the bartender gets an urgent call. There’s no one else around, so he asks if you can cover for him real quick. Only, it’s been half an hour, and there’s still no sign of him. That’s what you get when you hire amateurs and don’t pay them...
Jamie Kingsley and Frannie Corwin
A drunken stranger has fallen into your laps (maybe literally!). Neither of you are sure you’ve ever met this person in your life, but they’re like a child the universe has tasked you with taking care of. At least you’ve got a co-parent! It’s up to the two of you to make sure this inebriated fellow gets home safe and sound.
Georgie Wallace and Riley Montoya
You’re pretty sure this is the door to the bathroom... You can hear someone puttering inside and every time you knock, they say they’ll be right out. The two of you might be waiting an awful long time - Have you heard of a man called Godot?
Kacie Kingsley and Ale Rossi
(injury tw) Who knew that spooky, dark lighting was also dangerous? It’s just a scratch, or a twisted ankle, but one of you didn’t come out of the scare-zone unscathed. Who knows first aid?
Sunil Kumar and Myra Malik
Most of the items up for silent auction are lame, but there’s one prize you are determined to take home with you. Only problem is, someone else feels the exact same way. It’s time for all-out silent war!
Lennon Hollingsworth and Jude Wilson
They said ‘scary,’ but you didn’t think it would be quite this scary... One of the decorations plays right into one of your greatest fears. Good thing there’s someone there to help you out.
Sophie Thompson and Eva Giatti
Yes, the music is loud and it’s crowded in here, but that doesn’t mean people can’t see or hear you. Someone didn’t get the memo, and now the two of you are privy to a stranger’s juicy secret (could be criminal activity, cheating, etc.).
Taylor Evans and Breanne Samaya
You don’t have a target on your back, but you wouldn’t know it from the way one of the scare-actors has singled the two of you out. There’s a fine line between being committed and going overboard...
Isla Baker and Park Hyunmin
Sorry, I thought you were someone else... Your friend was supposed to dress up in the exact same costume, so as soon as you see it, you strike up a conversation like it’s old times. Only, oops! Turns out the costume is more common than you thought. Why didn’t you stop me sooner?
Lachlan Peters and Verona Warren
Some people take their costumes waaay too seriously... There’s someone dressed up as cupid who is going around pretending to play matchmaker. It’s funny enough to watch other people stumble through awkward, forced meet-cutes, but then his arrow lands on you. Valentine’s not until February, you asshole...
Vanessa Rodrigues and Fei Davenport
It was not on the schedule, but the DJ’s decided it’s time for impromptu karaoke. Maybe you feel sorry for the guy (he’s trying) or maybe you’re dared to do it, but singing in public is always easier with a partner, right?

Attention, Salem residents: the Danse Macabre has now begun!
Welcome to our first official dash event! As a reminder, you may continue old threads if you wish, and your characters are not required to attend/work the event... but where’s the fun in that?
Open starters can be posted anytime now, and we will be doing the draw for the random pairs shortly, so add your characters’ names to the event post replies if you want them included in that.
This event is meant for FUN, so dress your characters in costume, meet new friends, and party on. And don’t let the sightings of a spooky weeping woman ruin their night (or do - whatever tells the best story).
Don’t forget to post your characters’ costumes with the tag #srphqhalloween
