Because think about it, squidward would be the responsible one, making sure his boyfriends don't get into trouble, spongebob is the happy lovey dovey one who cheers his boyfriends up and patrick is also lovey dovey but more laidback and carefree, he's basically the middleground for his boyfriends!

I was thinking about this actually! Sponge has two hands. One for pat and one for squid 👀 (and if he needed more, he can just pop out some extra hands)
Hands down the elite ship. Has the best of both worlds.
There's also the episode Pat hearts Squid. Which that alone can suggest there can be chemistry between them too.
It's so cute how Squidward would be the responsible one and I can see Patrick being the one leading them into wacky scenarios and stuff. Spongebob is the middle ground and lovey dovey.
Who would have thought the sea sponge would be so popular?
